    Master bath: BEFORE
    Marisa D.

As we started demo & reno on our master bath we realized we were a little in over our head & decided to call in some help. I found Gomez construction through Yelp and after getting different estimates from different companies chose them for their price and start time. The turnaround from beginning to end took longer than anticipated due to COVID and everyone doing home projects at the same time. But the crew was great and so respectful of our space! They did the entirety of our tile shower, re-worked plumbing, put up new drywall & textured on our walls and ceiling, and laid our floor for us. Definitely give them a call if you've got a home project!

Gomez Construction remodeled two bathrooms and a kitchen for us in May and June of 2021. Jose Gomez, the owner, came recommended to us by a friend. His price was fair and his estimates detailed each job nicely. His normal jobs were coastal and traveling inland to Ramona became a burden which was made apparent to us several times. He did the job for us as a favor to the friend which was an unfortunate penalty to both sides. Daily work cleanup was fair. The plumbers he hired laid down plastic on the floor along their work paths and were very clean. His daily workers did prep work, mixed materials like mud and stucco outside in an un-landscaped section of our yard (dirt). They tracked dirt and dust without laying down floor coverings. There was some scuffing on the wood finish. I asked him about this and he says he forgot to bring the drop cloths. Cleanup was fair at end of the day. They partitioned the house from dust when cutting the outside wall and stucco. Final house cleanup was good. They left puddles of stucco and drywall mud in the dirt area. The patio pavers were stained with a white dust which they tried to hose off but could not. Nor could I. When his sub-contractor tiled the master shower, he tiled too far to re-install the bathroom window correctly. Jose claimed it could not be re-installed without a leak and he would not do the work. He was going to leave the job with a hole from the outside of my house into the bathroom and the window outside loose on the ground. He claimed it was my responsibility to supervise the contractor because I was home and he wasn't at the job site. We have no construction experience. After a heated discussion, he agreed to re-install the window. We installed new quartz countertops in the kitchen. Jose asked me to pay that contractor up front for the materials. After the countertops and backsplash were installed, we noticed that there were two overcut saw marks in a corner. They were hastily filled with a non-matching white putty (see photos). Jose told me this was my problem to work with the countertop contractor because we paid him directly. He claimed that my first check to the counter installer made him a direct contractor to me and Jose would have nothing else to do with it. The counter installer came out several times but was unable to repair the defect. The counter guy did agree to re-install a brand new countertop because they could not fix it. They were not able to come before our painters and tearing the backsplash off the wall would require extensive wall work. We were in a difficult position because we were listing the house for sale in a week. I bargained with the counter guy to pay me $300 and we'd call it even. Then I could sell the house and he wouldn't have to re-purchase quartz material which would have cost him much more. Seemed like a fair deal for both. He never paid and Jose refused to honor that agreement. Lesson learned. When the first tub came out, the plumber pointed out that it had a defect so we returned it for another. Since the plumber drove out (an hour drive for him), Jose charged me for his time. We ordered the tile ourselves at his recommendation and Jose picked up the material from the store. The tile store had an hour delay one morning so Jose charged me $300 for his time. He complained to me that the store delayed him. There were some days with minimal work. We were not his first job priority. The guest shower turned out great (old tub to new tiled shower). The guest shower floor tile (after some corrections to tilted tiles) looked great. The master shower looked great (old tub to new standup shower). The new shower pan did not reach the edge of my existing floor tile exactly so there was a gap between them with the concrete slab exposed. I claimed he mis-measured. He claimed the shower pan was in and job complete. Lesson learned. The sliding window looked great though the stucco job on the outside of it did not match like he promised. The new window in the dining room looked great. Overall my experience with Gomez Construction was not a good one. I liked the work but not the communication or attitude. I will never work with him again and likely he would say the same of me. Now I would still recommend him as long as you get every detail nailed down in the contract. The work was good if you don't mind hiring in contractors to finish the job (which we did). Define what a complete job means, don't leave it up to him to decide. Don't let him charge you for his inconveniences.

He's also willing to share his opinions, but in the end, he made sure they executed what I wanted versus what they'd normally do. The team was very skilled, polite and considerate. The only downside was that his online billing system was a bit weird, but it can be over-ridden to pay the correct progress payments. I'm the type of person who is very specific about what I want and I did my homework. I got four different bids for this project, and C2C was the clear winner. Their quote was completely itemized--which I appreciated--and ended up being well under every other retail bid I received. Two people really made the difference: Mary and Bolo. Mary is a literal pro when it comes to the insurance side of things. She worked tirelessly on the supplements to ensure we maximized our RCV payout from our insurance. She caught things the adjuster missed and helped us get the settlement we actually needed to do the job right. Bolo, the project manager, was extremely responsive and reasonable throughout the entire build. Whenever a technical issue came up--even complex stuff like electrical circuit stability or specific plumbing heights--he was there to talk it through and get it handled. One thing I will say for people considering them: you need to be the kind of homeowner who has the capacity to stay on top of the work. If you know exactly what you want and you're willing to stay involved in the day-to-day details, C2C is an incredible solution. It's a partnership, and because I stayed engaged, we were able to hit a level of quality that usually costs twice as much. The house looks amazing (see the photos of the Blue Thunder Quartzite and the Jade tile!). They were fair, they were fast, and most importantly, they were responsive. Highly recommend if you want high-end results without the "luxury markup" of other firms.

This is the second water leak mitigation & restoration we've done with C2C and while the PM on the…read morerestoration portion was outstanding this time, overall, there were more issues with the mitigation than last. Specifically, they subbed out the demo portion to another company which incurred more costs and thus lead to rejection of payment by insurance company. Or rather, it was ruled as costs extending beyond ordinary expenses. Had it been included with the mitigation equipment, the insurance would've likely accepted it, as it did last time. The actual work performed by everyone was great in the end, just as it had been last time. Everything was remediated properly and more importantly, timely. Brandon the PM on mitigation along with David the PM on the restoration side were great, with David being the most responsive and communicative PM I've ever worked with. Meaning, updates everyday, as promised. That was the best part of the whole project for me as an anxious homeowner. I will say that my own insurance agent didn't help matters either in this case. He was super hard to work with and eventually C2C had trouble reaching him. This also soured the whole experience as everyone worked to track him down by phone and to prove that all expenses were legitimate. I'm on the fence as to whether to use C2C again for mitigation. Would not hesitate to use them for restoration though.
