This place is MASSIVE, and clearly flying under the radar. We were looking for a place to watch the game last night, and we walked by and ducked in on a whim. It's hard to tell what's happening here because at street level, it's just an unmanned door with a small welcome area. Once you take an elevator down underground, that's where you'll find the massive underground sports cavern. It's a PERFECT spot to catch a game, especially with a big group. They have food, they have booze, they have beer. There is tons of seating, areas to chill by the bar, at tables, and over by the golf simulators. It's clean, and new, and bright, and beautiful. There's a giant shuffleboard table. There are so, so many TVs everywhere, and since NFL games are like 85% commercials, you can play golf while you watch. We weren't even there for golf, but it's a pretty impressive setup. They have state of the art simulators where you hit off of tees, or various types of ground that simulate the bunkers or the rough. They've got both lefty and righty clubs for you, people who can come troubleshoot any simulator issues (we had a few). There's servers rolling around and offering you any sort of beverage you might be into (alcoholic or not), as well as food. We didn't eat anything, but what we saw looked pretty good. While I'm sure it's a great place to come in solo or with a friend to practice, it seems like the whole place is set up for big groups. Everything you order can be scaled up for friends. You can get buckets of beer cans (growlers if you're going for the very decent tap selection), or a Big Ole Mule if you're drinking liquor. There are giant meat and cheese boards, flatbreads, big orders of wings to share...a great sports bar option. As I see it, there are only a couple of drawbacks: 1. They can't seem to change the fact that I suck at golf (after one visit; I suppose I could keep coming and get better). 2. It's pretty pricey. $89/hour on the simulator. Drinks and food are not exactly cheap either (this is still Brooklyn), but they have a decent happy hour from 3-7 pm M-Th.

Clean, modern & chic right in the Downtown Brooklyn area. Took my niece & nephews here as a belated birthday outing and it was perfect! Book in advance because I thought we could just walk in but they let us know that they're usually booked on Thursdays because of the leagues. we decided to wait and eat (even though you can eat while you golf). A lot of finger food options but we ultimately ended up with a cheeseburger flatbread, boneless flat wings, bone-in mango habanero wings, and a shrimp poboy. Food was meh as it was very saucy and a little too salty. I'd say the guacamole was ok (mild), but I'd just order the bone-in wings next time. The waiter was really nice, made the kids feel welcomed and seemed happy to be there. The virtual game was fun too as they had an easy mode with a ramp that helped me as a beginner and the kids. Generally, calm and quiet with background music that you can talk over but the kids didn't feel out of place.

We always tend to gravitate toward Irish bars when we visit the city and it rains. Comfort food is always a must on a rainy day in the city. We split a chicken Cesar spinach wrap and the famous Irish nachos. Both were phenomenal, the nachos had a bit of a kick to them. Not much but enough to make you sweat. Very close to the Barclays center, walking distance. Highly recommend stopping in before an event or for their upstairs beer garden.

I realize that's very specific, but that's what happened, and maybe you are also into the things this bar has even if that wasn't you: 1. A great bartender. A truly great backyard with plenty of seats and tables for when we drunkenly order pizza after saying we didn't need anything to eat hours before. 4. Darts. Who doesn't love throwing sharp objects around after they've been drinking? 5. Amazing signage. I like the one calling me a motherfucker if I climb around outside. 9.5/10 for the vibe, ambiance, and service -- and a full 10/10 for the food…read more I'm not a picky eater, but I've had some really disappointing oxtail lately, so I was hoping for the best here. I'm Dominican so I know oxtail pretty well and have made it myself. Thankfully, this place absolutely delivered. The oxtail was perfectly slow-braised, tender, and falling right off the bone -- exactly how it should be. Absolutely amazing. Of course I had the rice and peas, plus some veggies. A few of the veggies were slightly overcooked, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The drinks looked incredible, but I went with the rum punch and loved it. It was a little sweet, but super flavorful, strong, and definitely worth ordering again. For dessert, I had the Hennessy cheesecake, which was rich, decadent, and unbelievably delicious. There were three of us dining, and we all left completely satisfied -- with take-home containers because the portions are VERY generous. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that our server seemed to focus most of her attention on my friend. She is Jamaican, and because I look like a white American woman, I felt a little overlooked at times, even when I had several requests myself. We also had to look for her a couple of times while she was sitting with a group nearby. That said, everyone overall was very nice and welcoming. The bussers especially stood out -- they checked on us often, kept everything clean, and even greeted me in Spanish, which I appreciated. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back with more people next time.

For my hubby, Brooklyn is home - and we always love exploring the new places the city has to offer when we visit. We had reservations, and were seated within 10 minutes, which was reasonable. The place was packed - everyone was in high spirits, and I was ready to taste some of the best Caribbean cuisine in the region. My hubby's best friend - a Brooklyn resident, joined us. He had been to the restaurant a few times - and had good things to say. We were not disappointed. I had the Brown Stew Red Snapper - *chef's kiss*. Hubby had the iconic Jerk Oxtail over Macaroni & Cheese Pie! The English language cannot convey the beauty of that combination! Tender, tender oxtail, falling off the bone with the creamy, cheesy mac & cheese! He wanted to savor that dish another day, so he got a to-go bag and took it back to the hotel! (I couldn't help but clean my plate - I was obsessed with the fish!) Our friend enjoyed the Hennessy Fried Shrimp (not pictured) - one of his favorite dishes at the restaurant. It looked delicious as well. For drinks, I had the Bob Marley cocktail. A colorful drink - flavorful - and effective! There were people celebrating their birthdays throughout the night - and the wait staff goes IN! I was enjoying watching at least 10 people receive the Stevie Wonder "Happy Birthday" song while we were there. Imagine my surprise when it was my turn! My birthday was the day before, and we had already celebrated in Manhattan. Having two special recognition events made the evening that much more special! Shout out to the Simpson crew who came with the song, the rhythm, the sparkling cake, and the good vibes! My 70th birthday was exceptional - without a doubt. The Simpson added the touch I needed. We'll definitely go back next time we're in Brooklyn!

As someone who has come to this bar regularly to watch Knicks playoff games, I can confidently say…read moreI will never return after what happened during the NBA Finals last night. What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Let's Go Knicks

Located on Atlantic Avenue, the space itself is deceptively large. Upon entry, you are greeted by an L shaped bar, with high tops on the left, a booth in the front, and then several booths and tables in the back. There is a TV, but rather than sports like you'd see at most dive bars, there is usually a movie on. There is also a backyard to the bar, which is lovely in the summertime. As you'd expect, you order everything at the bar, food included, and there is no waiter service aside from the staff running your food to your table. There is a reasonable collection of draft beers, focusing on somewhat higher end beers rather the standard collection of macro brews. Additionally there are a handful of cocktails, and a few drink specials (I often take advantage of the shot and beer combo). The drink selection is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. There's also a food menu, including burgers, a hot dog, chicken wings and other bar staples. Overall the food is surprisingly good. I'm quite fond of the spicy smash burger, and the wings are pretty good as well. So far I don't think I've had anything that is poorly made, and they seem to put a bit more effort in to the food than other bars. What really sets the Hollow Nickel apart to me is the service. The bartenders are friendly, and help foster a community feeling in the bar. If you find yourself a regular, a nod and a smile will have your usual drink prepared quickly. The other patrons are usually pretty friendly, and it's not uncommon for me to find myself chatting with other people at the bar when I come for a drink on my own. I'm not quite sure what they've done, but the Hollow Nickel is just a nice place to be filled with generally nice people. If you want a drink and maybe some food, the Hollow Nickel won't do you wrong. It's exactly the type of bar you like to know is an option.
