Zero stars. These people are the worst, horrible service and very rude. I was paying month to month, I'd pay at the desk but then they closed due to pandemic, that's fine, but continue to charge me after automatically pulling money out of my account with no communication to me about it. After i catch this and call, Tony, apparently he's the manager in salinas, Tony laughed at me, asked if 45 dollars is going to ruin me and called me stupid for saying I didn't want them to be able to charge me without my consent each time. 4 months later the gym opens back up and they start the charges again, I got them refunded but got the same attitude from Tony, horrible people that i regret ever doing business with. I just can't believe that they allow a female to clean the men's locker room, showers and bathrooms with a locker room full of men. I guess it is policy that they don't close them off. I really like to stick to going to my own gym. However, I was in the area one day & hadn't worked out in a few days. Plus, I've been curious of all the Gold's gyms opening up. I was impressed by their machines, the cleanliness, and the locker room! I went on a Saturday afternoon (1pm) and there was hardly anyone there. I hate working out when there is a lot of people, I mean who doesn't. So it was nice being able to check out this gym for the first time and not have to deal with a lot of people. The young man who greeted me was very nice and helpful too. But they did have some other people around hanging by the front desk observing the patrons which felt a little uncomfortable. Other than that, it was great. I'm curious how the Monterey location is now. read more

Unfortunately, the many comments about poor customer service here are correct. I was thinking of switching to this gym because it's closer to my house than my current gym, but they don't allow you to work out for a day to try out their equipment unless you pay $20. That is the first I've ever heard of something like this and I'll be sure not to join this gym now. The management here should recognize that all other gyms allow you to try out the gym before you commit to a membership without charging you. read more

They did a beautiful job building this gym from the ground up! It's very clean and all new equipment. Everything you need for a good workout. Free weights, weight machines, cardio equipment, locker rooms, fitness class room, cycle class, daycare and a cooler in the front in case you forgot your sports drink. It has plenty of parking and right next to the perfectly pressed juice shop. You can see the whole gym from the front desk, it's one big open space. The same owners as the golds gym in Monterey and some of the same friendly faces you see in monterey. If you have a membership in Monterey you can workout in Salinas just the same without using your out of town passes. This gym is close to my work so it works for me. Come check out this new gym, you will no be disappointed. It just opened up on 1/5/2018. New year new you! read more

This really makes me sad. I was a full time member here 2 years ago. The gym was clean the locker rooms were spotless. Now the the gym is dirty the cleaning area has so much build up on the paper towel racks you would think the manager would do something about that. The locker rooms are far from clean. Was a member at a SoCal gym for years, it was awesome. This franchise however, continued to charge fees AFTER I informed them in writing, to their cancellation e-mail, that I was moving out of the area. At that time, at their request, I e-mailed a copy of my Gold's ID and again informed them I was moving. Months later they are STILL charging my account -- was told today that I must provide "proof" of my new address, which I did. They informed me that not only are they NOT going to credit my account for charges after written notice of my move, they are also going to tack on a $100 cancellation fee (which the overcharged amounts to my credit card should negate). Got a month to month plan. They will do anything to get you to sign up but once you do, the fees get you. I did month to month. There was fees for signing up, using a credit card, cancelling, and the staff has no Idea what is going on with billing. It took almost 2 weeks to after my credit card was overdrafted to find out that after we cancelled, they charged us for 2 months and an "annual fee". That was $200 after cancelling. The manager did the very least possible to help. Inshape, or 24hour fitness are both better companies to go with and more affordable. EDIT: Just got a call from collections saying I still owe $40, 6 months later. When we called the manager Tony, he complained about our YELP review and is taking his time to check why we were sent to collections 6 months later. Crazy rude. Bad communications between managers too. One manager told us we didn't owe anything and now Tony is claiming to have an audio/video recording of what we discussed 6 months ago. That is either a lie or just creepy. Not worth the stress. Wish they had never opened. read more

If you're looking for a good gym go somewhere else. Fans never work, sauna never works, the new lights can cause a seizure when benching, platforms on the squat racks are horrible. Always super hot in there, plumbing issues are horrible, fighting in the parking-lot, and your annual free doesn't go towards maintenance. I switched from InShape to Golds on Alisal when it opened. It was ok, not amazing. Classes were definitely not as good and equipment was pretty bare bones... like... no mats for classes. Not great. I filled out a cancellation request to take effect as soon as my contract was up. Months after it should have taken effect I'm being taken to collections and they conveniently have no record of my cancellation. This was after being given inaccurate account freezing/transferring instructions/options 3 times before ultimately deciding to cancel. This felt intentional, and after asking around, sounds like Golds will scam members every chance they get. The drama isn't worth it with multiple InShape locations in town. read more

I have trying to resolve an issue with Tony, Erica and Brooke for the last eight months, their lack of communication, professionalism and work ethic is ridiculous and rudimentary. When speaking with Tony, his ego is obscene which would never be accepted outside where he currently works. I was told by Brooke, after calling for months, when she did finally accept my call, that "she didn't want to get involved because she didn't want to de with it." As for Erica, she is lackadaisical, underwhelming and a perfunctory individual that will not return calls, is the epitome of avoidance and irresponsible to her commitment to work. We should all band together to send our complaints to the BBB, which I have done already. If I could give a negative rating I would do so with joy and pleasure. On a scale of ratings I would definitely give Golds Gym, Erica, Tony and Brooke a -100. If you are searching a fitness location go to any other place than Gold's Gym, better yet buy your own equipment, you'd save A LOT OF MONEY AND WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH ADDITIONAL STRESS. read more

Man I've been missing out my whole life lol . Coming back to the gym BUT a new one was a big move for me and I don't think I'll be going anywhere else . Super clean environment. Super friendly people . Everyone's doing their own thing . Didn't feel uncomfortable. Everyone's clean and puts their weights back like asked. The bathrooms are awesome . Face mask protocol temp protocol . My only complain is not enough lockers available with COVID . And soap dispensers didn't have soap . But other than that I'm definitely sticking with them !!! What a beautiful gym. They have almost anything you could want in terms of equipment (4 squat racks with platforms, range of cardio machines, free weights, turf, TRX bands, etc etc). I went at 5pm on a Monday and the crowd was completely tolerable, maybe because the gym is still new. It's so clean, so organized. Also got a free one week pass without all the questions and pressure to join (you need a local address). Gyms like this make my soul happy. read more

This gym is ruined with terrible, rude condescending, and unprofessional staff. The overweight guy who I assume is the manager in particular. He likes to shut off the fans very ahead of time and stare at members in a creepy way 15 minutes early to see if we get the hint that he wants to go home. Most members including myself just mind our own business and continue with our workout. He will then proceed to shut off all the lights 5 minutes early and continue to stare. This makes everyone confused being that we pay our membership for access until the actual closing time. Most members ignore it and continue to work out in the dark (which is a safety hazard) until it is actually closing time, then pack up and leave. One night immediately after shutting off the lights he came up to me and told me that they are closed, and I have to leave. I explained to him that it wasn't closing time yet, but he insisted it was. I showed him the time on my cell phone, and he told me I was wrong and have to leave. I proceed to grab my belongings and head to the exit. He then stops me at the door and scolds me for not removing the weights from the machine, and tells me I have to go back and remove them. At this point I'm very disappointed and I'm not about to get disrespected from this guy after he kicked me out before closing time. I told him its his job to tidy up not mine, and walked out. He became hysterical and yelled at his staff to immediately cancel my membership. I hope he did, saves me the trouble. He attempted to ask me questions but I ignored him and left. Guys and gals this is not a way to run your business or to treat your members. From the other reviews it seems like this guy is a repeat offender. I dont know how someone like that could be hired as an employee, much less a manager. What a shame. I hope they find a new manager soon otherwise this place will go down the tubes. read more

The woman's sauna has been broken for over a year, while the mens sauna works fine but we all pay the same price. No communication about the status of work order, we just expected to keep on paying for the things we don't use and obviously not using the money they take from us to make and effort to fix the sauna. I'm sure a man owns this place, if the mens sauna broke it would have been fixed overnight. This place is becoming very disappointing. I really like this Gym .Clean, weights are reracked, good staff, etc.... BUT , the only complaint I have is the Dummies who drop the weights when doing their " Dead Lift. " As everyone knows, when competing in Powerlifting Competitions , the Bar must be placed on the floor, not dropped on order for the lift to count ... Been coming here for about four months now and three out of the four months the sauna has not worked. I understand that people keep pouring water on it and breaking it. I went to Heather because I was on a 30 day mission at 3 sessions per week to get in shape! That was my initial goal! I am now into my 3rd and final month with Heather. I have come to realize this is a lifestyle change that I've adapted to and really enjoy it! I have tried all sorts of exercise classes, boot camps, fad diets, and never stuck with it. I can truly say it is all Heather's doing! She inspires me! I am blown away by her wide-range of knowledge! While on the floor it's about training properly, muscle activation, muscle engaging, focus, mindset, posture and so much more ...and oh! BTW ...my posture has never been better and my body is really taking shape! Heather also helps me with my macronutrients, calorific intake or any specific foods/meals she feels I should be having, increasing or decreasing. She keeps me in check! Heather has really invested the time to build a strong rapport with me. If I have questions she encourages me to ask. She actually thrives on it! Our sessions are always fresh, so it never gets boring and the educational component makes for an enhanced learning experience. I have been training with Heather for about 2 weeks. She is amazing. Personal training is hella expensive , no doubt, but as I told my husband the other day; it's the best money I've ever spent. Great gym! Really wish the workers would keep walking around helping put weights and stuff back tho, they always at the desk in groups chillin and kickin back. Be role models! (Customer service is welcoming tho! Thats really important!) It's Monday evening and there's this short Asian dude in sky blue shirt (works there) is walking around in his small shirt with his chest puffing out thinking he's mr big shot swinging doors open by hitting them with his shoulders, great job on enforcing the towel rules bro, maybe help keep the gym looking all organized instead of walking around intimidating no one. They're slowly letting the gym look like the n Davis in-shape I like this gym cuz it's new! Only packed the first weekdays in the evenings, towards the end of the week it's less people. If you're looking for a place to put some work in, this is the gym for you. Its clean, open, and has everything you need to make that change. The staff not only welcome you but take the time to get to know you. Trainers are always around and are open to give you some pointers. This is the first time I got me a trainer and it is well worth it. I'm 3 months in and already down a few sizes and have increased my drive to do more. My trainer Uver set up my plan and has followed through since day one. It's not easy so be ready for it. You'll be glad you did though. read more

Had a great experience until my two year contract was up. Then all of a sudden they AUTOMATICALLY subscribed me to a month to month membership without my knowledge. Then repeatedly charged me for the gym when I do not live in that city any longer and haven't been since December. So I got charged 6 months without knowing for a gym I no longer attend. I wanted to cancel my membership. They said i needed a drs note or live 25 miles away from the gym. I got the drs note to cancel my membership. They never called me back, notice they still pulled money from my account. I called and they said I needed to get disability, WTF would I go to disability if I a capable to work just not work out. So they refused to cancel my membership. I'm really upset because they don't tell you these things when you sign up. Just an fyi. I would never be one to write a review, but in this case I believe it's necessary because of the absolutely incompetent staff and customer service. For months I wanted to switch my month to month to the year plan. However, not one single person could figure out how to do that for me. I was told to email... No response. I emailed again... No response. I talked to the staff in-person again. Staff said they would call... No call. I got so fed up with their staff that I entirely quit the gym and was told my last day I could use the facility. Yesterday I not only found out that I have to pay another month, but also that they told me the wrong end date so I've missed out on 10 whole days of the gym that I've been paying for. I've discouraged all of my friends who I wanted to join the gym with me to go to Gold's and could not empathize more to not join this gym. It can get packed at times but it's not a big issue because this gym has a big open space to grab some weights and workout. Also, this gym has very friendly staff. This gym is a franchise that makes outrageous claims to their policies and will find loop holes to charge you for fees like "equipment fees" even during covid when the facilities are not even open but they still charge you. It's incredibly deceitful. They charged my parents for a monthly membership when they said they don't want to work out outside in the parking lot. So they froze the account but failed to inform them that it was only good for 3 months with no written statement on documentation. So again after 3 months, they were charged yet again for a facility that they will not be using outside. They obviously refuted the charges because there was complete lack of communication about the time frame. And now Golds Gym is refusing to freeze or cancel their membership until they pay for those months. This is their way of continuing to steal money from people that are not even using the facility during this pandemic to make their money. It's ridiculous and such a scam. Con artist if you will. Don't become a member unless you feel the need to just end up donating your money to these owners. I'm incredibly disappointed by their business model. And I'm sure after all the complaints they will be shut down. read more

Gym etiquette is my only complaint about this gym. The staff is great--they are friendly, they great their members by their first time, they keep the facility clean and broken equipment is always fixed promptly. Unfortunately some of the members are real jackasses! Tonight I went to use the plate loaded lat pulldown which was NOT occupied and as soon as I set my bag down, the guy using the bicep curl next to it stopped his set and told me to move because he was "doing like 4 sets right here". WTF? He then proceeded to claim the nearest cable lat down pull as well and do a circuit between all 3 machines while not allowing other members to use them. That is just not ok. One member has absolutely no right to claim 3 pieces of equipment and tell other members they can't use them. Other major problem is cell phone usage. There are too many members who can't put their phones down and end up taking 20+ minutes to do one set because they spend more time looking at their phone then they do lifting weights. I've been a member here since they opened and really the only bad thing is some of the rude members. read more

I attempted to cancel my and my husband's account which didn't take the first time, I needed up getting charged for additional months and the yearly fee. After 200 bucks was taken from my bank account overdrafting my card I went to them to see why I was charged 2 weeks later I'm still unsure of what the hell is going on and have been told essentially it's my fault and that signs were posted in the gym stating yearly fee was here...
