I can't say enough good things about this gym and if I could give them 6 stars I would. I was really, really out of shape when I started here. It had been about a decade since I worked out daily. Many years ago, I was a devoted Pilates Coach/Ball Fitness Studios fan when I lived in Reno. And since then, I've never found a place I really loved or remained committed to. 2SA welcomed me and challenged me in ways I've never been challenged. I tried boxing and Piyo for the first time, loved both. Amanda's classes were great and she even ran over and held my hand doing lunges so I could get into the correct position. With pretty large class sizes, that really says a lot about the instructor. Most of her students had been with her for years, no other place in Monterey Bay has that kind of cult following this gym and its instructors have. Most people want to work out in a place where everyone looks like their ideal physique, and the people who attend this gym are definitely athletes. If you can get over your own insecurities and put in the work, you will love it here. Lastly, customer service is how it should be. Cancelling is easy. Signing up is easy. The monthly payment is low. There are no gimmicks or upselling or hassles. Just show up when you want to try a class and if you like it, join! Unfortunately with COVID I've been home doing Beachbody. This is a GREAT place to workout. The atmosphere is exciting, staff and members are friendly and very helpful, the workouts are challenging for any athlete or any fitness level. I started with 2 Steps Ahead at the end of 2012 in an effort to get into better shape and pursue a healthier lifestyle. Prior to that, I hadn't been much more than a couch potato and was a little embarrassed of how 'out of shape' I really was. I had checked out gyms before and never was very comfortable in them. Furthermore, I really needed structure and organization to help me stay on track. To my surprise, I felt very welcomed by the 2SA trainers and members, and very comfortable with the class. They were encouraging, supportive and very well educated in proper form and technique. The trainers were often checking on me to make sure I wasn't doing anything that would cause injury. They would also provide alternate ways of doing the exercises, so that I was able to complete them in my 'out-of-shapeness'. The classes are fun and energetic and they change everyday, so you walk in having no idea what is in store for you. Each class gets you a full body workout and hits muscles you didn't even know you had. I cannot give enough praise to the trainers and members of this gym. Were it not for the positive and energetic environment they provided, I'm not sure where I would be at this point. Joining this gym was by far one of the best choices I've made. After a being with the group for just a few months, I felt confident enough to sign up for the 2013 Ranch Romp 5k Mud Run. I actually finished it without too much trouble, to my surprise. I continued with the group regularly for the next year, and decided to run the 2014 Spartan Beast in Monterey. While that run kicked my butt, I felt stronger than ever and went on to complete a trifecta for that year. I was planning on a double trifecta in 2015, thanks to the achievements that I've gained from going to 2SA. Regrettably, just prior to the 2015 Monterey Super, I was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment was a fairly invasive surgical procedure that doesn't always have a good outcome. The physicians involved in my care made several references to my physical fitness and how that would certainly help with the recovery. As a result of the surgery, I had to take quite a bit of time off from the gym, but I'm back now, and am looking forward to gaining back what I lost during the downtime, and even more. I think it's safe to assume that were it not for 2SA, I may have had a different outcome. I'm grateful that they have such an awesome team, and program, that inspired me to get into better shape and keep pushing myself to achieve more. Bar none the best place to workout in Salinas or Monterey, I've been to most places in these cities and nothing compares. So this place specializes in athlete performane...speed, agility, and flexibilty and if you're the type that gets bored with old school regular workouts then you have to give this place a shot. Most of the workouts are done in a class type setting with the exercises pre-written by the two owners who also run the classes. But you can also go in and workout on your own if you want. Although the classes are the best thing going, and most people just do that. The workouts themselves are extremely challenging, using equipment like medicine balls, kettlebells, swiss and bosu balls, title bags and balls, elastic bands, bulgarian bags, gymnastic rings, and tons of other stuff. But there's also a ton of challenging body weight work. There's also a good amount of running and footwork...all about speed. And most classes have some martial art-esque punching and kicking element too. There's so much good and cool stuff about this gym that its hard to think of it all, and all I have to say is you have check it out and you'll become addicted...great atmosphere and extremely positive and friendly people. I love 2 steps ahead! I have been active my entire life. Playing sports while growing up and through high school kept me fit, but now I am working and the organize sport isn't so much of an option. I have been going to this gym consistently 2-3 times per week for 8 months and I feel like I am in the best shape since high school... 16 yrs ago. I got into running and mountain biking a few years ago and the 2 Steps workouts have only complimented these other sports. I feel stronger, more balanced, more coordination. For example, I haven't touched a jump rope in 20 years. How simple is jumping rope..right? Well try it...it's NOT like riding a bike. :) I have relearned simple skills like that too. I ran the Heart and Sole 10k in 2012 and then again in 2013. After working out with this gym for 8 months, I shaved off 7 minutes on my time....THAT'S HUGE! I can contribute it to the hard work that the trainers have pushed me to do. Thank you 2 steps! Speaking of trainers! I am the kind of guy who needs variety. I never take the same running route, or the same mountain bike routes, or order the same subway sandwich... I always mix it up! That's what you get at 2 Steps. The classes are NEVER the same. Yes you will do some of the same type of exercises/stations (example push-ups)...but there is so much variance from class to class...it's awesome! I never get board. This is due to the variety of trainers, and their individual creativity. The only negative thing I can say about this gym is I wish they offered more options in class times, I can't always make the 2 or 3 time slots they have per day. Cost: Very affordable. especially if you can go to 10-15 classes per month, it works out to be very affordable. Over all...I am very thankful for this gym! Love the trainers! Love 2 Steps Ahead. My son and I started going there about a year ago and we absolutely love it. Together we lost over 40 lbs and love our physical transformations. Everyone asked us what our secret is and this is it. The gym offers a selection of great classes from spin, fit, Piyo and yoga. I've been going to this gym for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier with it! I am constantly being pushed and challenged! I love that there are many options, from FIT classes to spin, yoga, PiYo...there is something for everyone. Being a college athlete I had a hard time finding my niche as far as working out and staying in shape, and this place is it! The group atmosphere creates a team-like environment where people can really thrive and push them selves. The trainers are all great and very helpful! One of the main reasons I love living in Salinas. This gym will change you physically and you will have fun doing it. I get bored easily and 2 Steps keeps the workouts fresh and challenging. Really positive environment and worth every penny. Give it a try...I am sure glad I did! read more
