I joined the YMCA a couple months ago and finally decided to go. What a horrible experience. Front desk person was so friendly to people coming in to play basketball (his age), yet I was trying to ask questions since it was my first time there and it was like pulling teeth to get him to answer. I asked if someone could show me the facilities and he said no, he was the only one there. I asked questions and he would just point. I filled out a form for someone to call to schedule a time to go over the equipment, and still no call. Not sure who manages this facility but the employee(s) are not friendly, not helpful, and I definitely do not remember the Y being like this. There should be a manager on staff to see what is going on. read more

This place needs lots of help ASAP. They have kids playing basketball with a CONSTRUCTION SITE LIGHT!!! The locker rooms are disgusting. Every room is odor filled. This YMCA was once thriving and it is heartbreaking to see what has happened to it over the years. read more

FILTHY! In the past I've filled out all the surveys they send and even spoken with a manager. Over the last 5 weeks I've spoken with a couple front desk employees asking that they PLEASE wipe down the machines. Unfortunately, after five weeks they still have not been wiped. For what it's worth I'm turning to yelp. I've been here at least 4 days a week for the past 5 weeks and the machines have not been wiped once. Not only is it unsanitary and a health risk, it's bad for these machines which were brand new not too long ago. I gave two stars because the classes are good and the kids center is nice. As far as the gym though, it's just gross! read more

I was a YMCA member for years and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Equipment is old and outdated. Locker room is Always under construction. Basketball court is used as a daycare and senior citizen workout area most of the time and the court is never cleaned like ever !! read more

I want to get a membership for a second gym cuz I live close and love to play basketball but I will Never understand why the YMCA charges almost 60 a month still when way better gyms out there charge so much less they need to update their gym pricing. This isn't 2010 anymore where you could charge that much because you were one of the only gyms in salinas. read more

Avoid. The gym relies on gym members to clean equipment and while you do see cleaning staff roaming around they don't actually clean the place. It's so dirty and disgusting. I cannot come back here after seeing the women's showers. read more

please get stair stepping machines would be super helpful. Weight room needs proper AC it's super stuffy and has stopped my work out a few times because it got way too hot. who wants to feel other men's sweat?? that's a negative. other than that has the basics to work out. needs to look a little cleaner though. staff is nice read more

I don't understand why the YMCA would open the outside pool for lap-swimming during COVID and not open the showers we are not allowed to rinse off the chlorine there at the YMCA. I would like to use the pool before going to work however how do we wash ourself if showers are not available to the members. Management Please come up with a better solution. I only go to this location to swim because we have a nice little group that looks out for each other. I enjoy the water aerobics class. When I first started there the class was on Monday, Wednesday & Friday, then the instructor wasn't able to continue on those days, so now we only have an instructor on Wednesdays and they have never gotten anyone to replace the Monday and Friday classes. The lifeguards at the pool don't pay attention to us, and we have to tell them to watch us, they stay in the little swim hut on the pool deck and talk to each other and look at their phones. Management has been notified and unfortunately has done nothing to correct this situation. The Mangers are lacking in all respects to this facility, it is run down, something is always broken, and it is filthy! I know there is not a lot that they can do about the age of the facility, but they can do something about the cleanliness of the place. I don't understand why it takes 6-8 months to get a pool fixed and then when it opens up it's not cleaned. Maybe the lifeguards outside ( there is always more than one) could take turns watching the pool and cleaning up the area outside. It seems like there is not a lot of work going on at this location. read more

Is anyone out there as sick and tired of paying a family membership of +$100 every month to find out upon arrival that ANOTHER part of the men's locker room doesn't work.... man is this getting old or what! When questioning upper managemnet, it's ALWAYS "well, go on the web and resign..... but you still will owe us for another month.... For what, to use the toilet? I know, I only have myself to blame for sticking around so long.... It's like the meaning of insanity..... "doing (showing up) the same thing over and over and expecting different results.... Great gym facility. Friendly staffs. Can bring your house guest for free. Has pools, indoor and outdoor. Love their yoga and zumba classes. Very affordable to join. I just wish they had enough parking spots. read more

I was interested in joining the y but was searching for competitive rates and services. Unfortunately, in speaking with Emmanuel from the y, he was unable to provide any customer service/assistance. He barely seemed to know his name much less provide information about the y. With this type of customer service, I don't think that this is the gym for me. read more

If you or a loved one happen to die while being a member of the YMCA in Salinas be prepared to give them 30 days notice before they will cancel your membership without charging you an additional fee. Had to go to a higher level before getting them to waive this additional charge; much to the Chagrin of the person who handled my termination originally. read more

Staff members friendly but have limited information, many very young and volunteers. Confusing program info. They need to streamline program information and educate those informing public of the programs. Good equipment, great basketball court. Womens locker room not very clean; clumps of black hair around drains, fungus on shower chairs; smelly rugs; pool ok but often noisy kids and families with strollers and more kids on deck; lifeguards don't monitor behavior very well. Great Kids Zone with super attendants there. Pool often has bandaids, hair. Lifeguards should scoop out debris more often instead of sitting in chairs looking bored. read more

The WiFi there is a joke. Better off running the streets of salinas. Very disappointing to not be able to access my music even with their WiFi code. It's not like the environment is energizing, I enjoy working out to my music thank you. This place has become my last resort. Horrible place just went in there a couple minutes ago to get a Guests Pass ( So I ask this old white Lady if I can get a guest pass and she gave me this bad attitude she say no right away so I told her "Really Why?" " and she just said "YEAH REALLY" bad place to go I was planning on getting a membership but know that this happened I rather go to InShape (If the Manager READS THIS YOU SHOULD HAVE A TALK WITH ALL YOUR STAFF AND TELL THEM TO BE MORE RESPECTFUL. They offer free service to help you use the facility but no body calls you back. Although the place is ok, the classes are very packed and you have to be early to get a spot. Also, some of the classes on their program are not available, so ask first. If you already now how to train yourself, go ahead and enjoy, but if its your first time, it is the worst place to go, cause they assumed you know how to use the machines and create yourself a rutine, so you will find yourself with no training at all. read more
