Recommend the Rock hands down! One of the best boxing gyms if you want to learn self defense. As a woman, mother of kids, learning self defense is a must. The Rock Boxing Gym took me right like family. In the time I've been here I've develop the conditioning I need necessary to defend myself physically in any case scenario. Coach Danny, Fish, Jesus, Vaquero, and Cobra are all very knowledgeable in the boxing sport which has made me adapt to this sport in a much easier manner. They've supported my conditioning, helped me develop my boxing (punching and moving) , and guided me through a healthy eating journey. My son a quiet, shy kid joined to learn self defense and has gained so much self confidence. He holds his head up high and shows less fear inside the ring and out. I really liked the 5 free day trial to determine if this was the gym for my son and I. I totally recommend anyone interested to come give it a try. They have multiple classes throughout the day.

Let me start by saying that I am not a gym rat. Having had experiences at both Marina and Salinas I…read morewill say that mostly the equipment is newish and in working order. The rehab staff at both sites are exemplary, the pools, not so much. The pool in Salinas has been out of commission for close to a year (as of 4/26), so those of us that rely on aqua therapy have been left behind. When dealing with staff there was very little assistance offered, but quite a bit of attitude. Since it's covered by our insurance, unlike other gyms in town, we'll probably just wait until it's repaired, since no one offered us the possibility of just going to Marina.

Nevermind they don't adhere to their own published class schedules, it comes down to a "take it or leave it" attitude at this place. - This, along with their confrontational attitude, is why my wife and I cancelled our membersiip after being members a very short while.

I can't say enough good things about this gym and if I could give them 6 stars I would. I was…read morereally, really out of shape when I started here. It had been about a decade since I worked out daily. Many years ago, I was a devoted Pilates Coach/Ball Fitness Studios fan when I lived in Reno. And since then, I've never found a place I really loved or remained committed to. 2SA welcomed me and challenged me in ways I've never been challenged. I tried boxing and Piyo for the first time, loved both. Amanda's classes were great and she even ran over and held my hand doing lunges so I could get into the correct position. With pretty large class sizes, that really says a lot about the instructor. Most of her students had been with her for years, no other place in Monterey Bay has that kind of cult following this gym and its instructors have. Most people want to work out in a place where everyone looks like their ideal physique, and the people who attend this gym are definitely athletes. If you can get over your own insecurities and put in the work, you will love it here. Lastly, customer service is how it should be. Cancelling is easy. Signing up is easy. The monthly payment is low. There are no gimmicks or upselling or hassles. Just show up when you want to try a class and if you like it, join! Unfortunately with COVID I've been home doing Beachbody. I have a small child and can't make the drive over there for the foreseeable future. If I lived in Salinas, I'd be there in a heartbeat!

I've been training with Tom 3x a week for 3 months now. He…read moreis great! I have never felt stronger in my life and I've lost 16 pounds since working with him (and tracking my calories) He is also very affordable compared to trainers around the peninsula. The gym is small but has everything I need. There are never more than 4 other people in there at a time which is a big plus for me! At this point, I do feel I have learned enough about weight training to not need a trainer, but I don't think I would push myself as hard if Tom weren't there saying "one more" over and over again. Love training here and I'm so excited to see how much stronger I will become!

Been going to this gym for some time now, and I must say it is great…read more Pros: There are no crowds, ample parking, the place is clean, the music is under your control and the few people there are usually very nice. The place has all the equipment I need (I mostly train with free weights) to work out hard. Tom, the owner is an excellent trainer with lots of knowledge to share. Cons: The location is somewhat hidden, the cost is higher than other gyms, no crowds (if you are into people watching), no showers. I am just a BIG fan of this place. The cost is a little high, but that just means that only people serious about working out go there. I would give this place a 4.5, but since that is not an option I will round up to a 5. In case you are wondering the -.5 would be for the bathrooms not having any shower stalls. Update (11-17-2009)** I stand by what I said before, I really liked working out here, but I was just on the receiving end of a 4 letter word laden tirade from the owner because I turned the tv off. This is something I was given permission to do, but the owner feels that pressing the power button on the tv "broke everything". I follow all the rules, re-racked my weights, wiped down when I was done, etc. I was a model member so it was completely out of the blue for him to call my house to cuss me out. So it's a great place to work out, just be aware you could be on the receiving end of a tongue lashing. It's up to you if you want to stick around after that, I for one am not.
