Kathy Ip was very helpful in explaining the variety of choices in glasses and helping me choose a frame

Fantastic service. I was traveling and forgot to pack my contact lenses. The team here took incredible care of me. They were able to work fast and provide me with a solution. I was pleasantly surprised with the utmost care they gave to a new client. I'll be sure to recommend the place. Thank you once again for the help. . :0) read more

What a great office! All employees here are friendly, helpful, efficient, and knowledgeable. I literally called them this afternoon and was able to obtain an appointment within 90 minutes! Although a busy office, Dr. Yee did not rush our time together--and she's a consummate professional who was confidently (and caringly) able to answer all my questions. When it came time to select frames, Sharon Leong was not only able to help me choose, but also conducted herself in the most professional, caring, and friendly manner. Sharon's level of customer service is about the best you're going to find anywhere! Highly recommended for convenient location, professional staff, emphasis on customer service, neat and clean decor, and quick wait times. read more

Huey has been an absolute joy since I've stepped through the door. He answered all my questions and even helped me pick out stylish frames for an amazing price. Pay attention to his gestures if you struggle to understand his English. read more

I definitely had a great experience at Golden Milpitas Optometry compared to other offices in the Bay Area. I came to buy glasses last year, but this time, I came for an eye exam and bought glasses on a Sunday. My Sales associate is actually the Sales Manager, Emily Nhan, who was helpful, nice, and friendly. I usually go for insurance-covered glasses and not brand names because my purpose of wearing glasses is to see clearly, not to enhance my appearance. I was surprised when Emily immediately knew and picked out the style and color of glasses that I would like and fit me. I didn't have to waste time looking at ones that I don't like. I also tried on other glasses to see if there were any better options. Another sales associate named Kathy Ip was nice to help me by giving her opinion of how the glasses looked on me before I finalize the right one. Kathy was sociable and gave a warm environment, which made me enjoyed my stay at this office. Yvonne La, the Assistant Manager from the Admin team, also helped me with picking the right glasses. Since she was a young adult and about the same age as me, she knew which glasses have the kind of designs that I would like. Since Emily was busy with another patient, Yvonne brought out the insurance-covered glasses for me before Emily sat down to help me. In addition, Howard Wong from the Admin team did a great job with the pre-tests. I did have some problem with taking the retinal screenings, but he was patient and took his time to help me. Although I took a while to get the photos right, he didn't show that he was annoyed and actually helped me by moving my eyes to make sure that I was looking at the right targets. Last by not least, Dr. Jackson Ma performed the eye exam for me. Although he was very busy seeing patients after patients, during the short amount of time, I found that he was not intimidating at all but was kind and approachable. He was knowledgeable about my medical history even though what I listed was not related to the optometry field. Based on the customer service and experience I received from these specific staff members, I would return to fulfill my optometry needs. read more

I have been a customer of Golden Milpitas Optometry for over 10 years. However, because I had moved to San Ramon in 2008, I switched to another optometry office in Dublin due convenience and proximity. My experience yesterday reminded me that I should have never left them in the first place... Here's my story. My son recently received an incision on his eye from his ophthalmologist in Fremont. He's an Ortho-K user, and because of his procedure, he was asked to instead use glasses for the next couple of weeks to give his eyes a chance to heal. The challenge for him was that he did not have glasses that were his level of prescription (those who are Ortho-K patients will probably be familiar with the different sets of glasses needed). Because he just started school and he was unable to see the whiteboard, we needed to quickly find a place to provide him with a prescription (all of his previous prescriptions were partial only, to support shorter timeframes post Ortho-K non-usage). We decided therefore to rush over to Milpitas Golden Vision, as in my memory they provided really good service I remember many years ago. From the moment we went in, we were welcome by their staff who patiently listed to our situation. Yvonne assisted us first, where even though it was quite busy (there were at least 20 other people in the office), she not only warmly listened to our needs - but also went ahead and suggested that perhaps there was a way we wouldn't need to spend extra money on an exam, and that maybe she could make a call to our normal optometry office to see if she could ask them a favor and send a full prescription to us. She spent a considerable time with another office on the phone (one which they are not related to), patiently discussing the matter so as to find a solution for us. Finally, she was able to arrange a full prescription for my son, without the need for any additional appointment or payment. I was so surprised and amazed - here is an optometry office for which I am not a recent customer, who went out of their way to actually not try to make money...and above and beyond that spend the time to help us get a prescription so that they could save a non-recurring patient some money. Who does that these days? After being impressed with the service Yvonne provided us, we went ahead and decided to book an eye appointment for myself (for which I was overdue anyways.) Even though we were walk-in and they were busy, they accommodated us, and in about 30~40 minutes I was able to see the doctor and her assistant. Ritu was the helpful assistant who helped me to obtain the necessary pre-exam readings for my eyes. Do you know that part of the pre-exam test where they shoot a whiff of air to test the pressure in your eye? Usually it's a horrible experience. But the way Rita does it, it isn't bad at all and the entire procedure is over quickly before you know it. In the past when I lived in Santa Clara and frequented this clinic on an annual basis, I was used to seeing Dr. Wen, who I remember being very good. However, this time I had the chance to see another optometrist - Dr. Shih. I need to say that Dr. Shih is simply amazing...the most patient, thorough, and empathetic optometrist I have ever met. My son was with me the entire time during the exam, when together with me she patiently went over all of the scans and measurements she determined for my eyes. Because I had a surgical procedure in my upper right eye several years ago, Dr. Shih even took the time to talk to me about that, as well as other parts of the scan I should be mindful of, and what I may want to be mindful about now that I am entering my mid 40's. Because my son was in the room, we also talked a bit about Ortho-K and tips on how to be careful with them...which was also impressive to me because, again, my son is not a patient. Just shows the type of caring person Dr. Shih is, and how much she enjoys what she does and cares about everyone around her : ) It's rare to step out of any sort of health/medical appointment so amazed and impressed that it drives you to write a very long review...just in case there may be the possibility that if there are others who may be on the fence when considering this optometry clinic, they may consider quickly jump off that fence after reading about the experience we had! I would therefore, without hesitation, very highly recommend this office for any of your optometry needs. Thank you again Yvonne, Ritu, and Dr. Shih for everything. Lastly, even though it is about a 45 minute drive from my home...I have a feeling I will now be making that drive down to Golden Milpitas Optometry every year for all of my annual eye examinations... read more

I made an appointment for 3:30pm and came here right on time and signed in on their iPad. However they are not aware of people signing in and at 3:45 I decided to ask a worker if it's my turn yet and that's when they finally decided to check the sign in sheet on their computer. The doctor who helped check my eyes was nice though. I was also dilated for an eye test so I couldn't read the price tags of all the eyeglasses. The man who helped me choose glasses kindly helped me and guided me through choosing my glasses and also gave me some advice on them. If you come here with a reservation, I would still tell the workers you are here on an appointment and be insistent on it. read more

I've gone to several different optometrists before, but none quite as thorough and helpful as here! Aside from being knowledgeable, Dr. Wu is also very kind, caring, and patient, which I appreciate a lot. Also, the staff here are all very friendly and accommodating, especially Emily Nhan, who has helped me and my mom out every time we were here for the last 7 years (and ongoing). Whatever it is we need, she takes care of it! 10/10 excellent service : ) read more

Dr Ma is really professional and give a lot instructions and suggestions. It's a good place for the eye exam.

First time my doctor was not friendly and nice. BUT the second time doctor Yee helped me with the contact test. She was professional, friendly, and quick. I was referred to Dr Wen by Dr Mandel, a very reputable LASIK doctor. Dr Mandel was unable to correct with LASIK my 2.5 Astigmatism due to my underlying Keratoconus condition and referred me to Dr Wen. Dr Wen measured me and designed a Scleral lens. Scleral lens are a type of hard contact lens which is both optically 20/20 and very comfortable (because the cornea never touches the lens). I am 100% happy with my Scleral lens from Dr Wen. It is indeed both very comfortable for daylong use, and it gives me 20/20 vision in both eyes. Something I never thought possible with my underlying 2.5 astigmatism. Best regards, Dmitry read more

This place needs to learn what service is about, how can this place still be in business?! I ordered a pair of sunglasses before Christmas, the lady (I think her name was Ming) told me it would take about 10 days and that they would get back to me the week after new years. Today, I checked my credit card and they had charged me $290 on december 18th. Fair enough, I needed them to order the glasses. Today it's jan 14. and I gave them a call to find out where my sunglasses are. The lady I talked to told me they would check and call me back in 40 minutes. No one called me back. I then called them again and after she checked, she said that they were still waiting for a reply from Chanel, it would take another 14 days to get them. When I asked why the hell no one had called me back, they gave me the poor excuse that it was the holidays and they might now have had the time to call me, to let me know that it would take over a month to order a pair of sunglasses??!!!!! This is HORRIBLE! You don't charge people and let a month pass by, without letting the customer know that it's going to take longer. I have worked in customer service myself and a fish would figure that out. Cancelled my order and the chance of me coming back to this place is the same chance as a snowball's chance in hell. They told me they would refund me ASAP, I will be paying close attention. read more

They tried to trick me in putting cheapo, headache inducing nosepads on my new Chanel eye glasses, that I paid $500 for. I noticed right away and called them out on it. Then they wouldn't take them back, even after I called Chanel to confirm they were supposed to send them out to Chanel to get nosepads and argued with the lady here. The nosepads were ugly and fake and they tried to make me pay Chanel prices for them. Finally they took them back, I hadn't even worn them for more than a few minutes. Not nice. Now I doubt they were even real Chanel eyeglasses at all. I used to like this place but no more, maybe they get their eyeglasses at the Berryessa Flea Market? read more

I went to Golden Vision in Milpitas to get a new pair of contact lens. Before visiting the store, I talked to the manager Mandy. She said I could get a pair of contact lens + eye examination at $90. The reason I went to Golden Vision is because I had been a patient at their San Gabriel store for a period of time. I was satisfied with the service at San Gabriel store When I visited the store, the first thing they asked me to do was to have an eye examination. Just like other opetometrists, the OD tried to convince me to do a Laser surgery. After the eye exam, a sales associate name Emily told me the $90 deal was not available and kept telling Bausch & Lomb is not good. She tried to sell me other deal and another brand. I was so pissed. What a scam! I told them I want to have the same brand I had been wearing for a long time and don't care how good other brands are. Eventually, she promised to order one pair of Bausch & Lomb from San Gabriel branch. Gosh! She really sounded like one of the those scams. After I picked up and put on my new contact lens at home, I realized it must be something wrong. I felt discomfort on my eyes. I called Golden Vision to complain. At first, a lady said she checked the chart and they had given me the corrected lens. Someone called and told me my contact lens had wrong base curves. That's why I felt discomfort on my eyes. Gosh! Are they idiots or what? I went to Golden Vision again. They gave me another pair of contact lens to put on. After a while, they asked me to give them back the contact lens package. They wanted to make sure what I was wearing was right. Also, they wanted to have the wrong contact lens back for checking. What? Were they supposed to make sure what I needed before giving me the contact lens? Why did she need to check again? We are talking about my eyes. Not a mosquito bit on my skin. This is obvious that they do a very lousy job on the charts and paper work. Their OD tried to sell me to do a laser surgery. How can I trust them with my eyes? They just act like a bunch of idiots. read more

The most expensive contact lens eye exam I have ever had in my 15 years of going to optometrists. My husband and I both have insurance that covers eye exam, about over $100 toward frames or contact lenses. They managed to use all the exam coverage + the money toward lenses and additional money we had to pay $270 out the pocket for the exam fees and come home with only 1 box of contacts. This seems like a fraud to me. The eye exam is average. Optometrist does not bother getting to know my name. The office staff is not very professional. I am health professional and I do have the doctorate degree but I felt I was treated like a teenager. I will never go back to this office. read more

They have a large selection of glasses. High end designers - Cartier, Miu Miu, Chanel, & more. However, the wait is LONG. Even on a week day! I have visited this place 5 times before finally getting my colored contacts. First time was for prescription. Second was to check if my prescription was correct. They didn't tell me to bring/wear the contacts so I just wore my glasses. On the third visit, I finally brought my contacts with me. Then I chose trial colored contacts and wore them for about a week. The fourth visit - I finally was able to finalize my order; chose the colors I wanted. My last visit - pick up contacts. Most of the Sales Associates were doing their job correctly but there was this one girl. Seriously, this girl must have been smoking some hardcore weed. I think all she has to do is answer the phones and file. When I called in, she was barely audible and didn't have the correct answer to my question. She then told me to "hold on," and handed the phone to someone who actually knows their stuff. read more

To whichever Yelper said that these people always comment on bad eyesight, touche. I've been coming here for years and I get the same response. "Your eyesight has gotten worse" "Your eyesight is pretty bad" Yeah, I know. I work on a computer 10 hours a day. I'm pretty sure that doesn't help anyone's eyes. I don't need to be reminded. My worst experience though had to be with the actual glasses. I bought a pair of d&g glasses here. You can probably imagine how expensive they were. Anyway, I wore them for about 7 months until one day the left ear piece just fell off. I didn't break it or anything. I took them in to see if they could reattach it and they said no because they needed a special piece which would cost over $100. I asked why so much and they said that piece was only sold in pairs. Unhappily i obliged because they were nice glasses. They fixed it and all was good. A month later the right ear piece fell off. I wasn't too phased because I knew they still had that other piece. Wrong! They said they didn't have it anymore!!! So I paid $100 for a PAIR of screws and only got one? I was upset and ended up waiting for insurance to get a new pair. But even to this day I'm still bitter. read more

I have been coming to Golden Milpitas Optometry for years and I am a very satisfied customer. I just went back for my annual checkup and would like to share my experiences. Dr. Wen is always very thorough and professional, and expertises in conducting annual vision exam for me and my family. I have high myopia, so finding and fitting for a correct and comfortable pair of contact lenses and glasses is not an easy job every year. But Dr. Wen is forever patient and helpful in finding me a good fit, no matter how many times we need to re-try a new pair. My boys are also doing Ortho-K treatment under Dr. Wen as well. She is very patient and great with the kids. I am very comfortable to entrust my kids under her care. Kathy is the technician who helps me to find and fit for my glasses. Decor = small place, but decent Service = not so good! I have to rate this place in 2 parts. 1) Dr - I will never come back for a dr. apt again. my apt was 40mins behind schedule. After 3 tries, she still didn't get my prescription right. She rushed me during the exam and the door was not even closed. Come on now! 2) The Optometry itself - However, the manager Valerie is very nice. However, the rest of the team is ok. Get your eye check else where but you can consider buying your glasses here. I ordered my glasses on 1/8 from this place. they said it would take 2 weeks. I called on 1/24, which is more then 2 weeks time, I was told that they would call me back. of course no one did, so I called again, and again, I kept getting the same answer "we'll call you back". after almost 24 hrs, finally someone got back to me and they said: "the glasses was not good enough, so it's being remade again". Personaly think they forgot to send in my order. Because I called again the next day, talked to another lady who doesn't know what happened, she said that they just sent in my glasses yesterday (1/24), so now there is another 7~14 days of wait. whoever wanna go there, good luck waiting. read more

The service was HORRIBLE. I made an appointment for an eye exam for a weekday afternoon, thinking (incorrectly) that it would be somewhat quiet. I arrived, and the place, as others have said, was like a zoo! I waited almost two hours for my doctor, being told constantly that I "was next in line." After buying this line for an hour, I had enough, and decided to leave, letting them know how upset I was with their customer service. I made another appointment for another weekday afternoon, and this time, planned to spend a few hours there, trying to give them another chance. I walked in, and gave them my name, and the woman at the desk informed me that they had LOST my paperwork, and I would have to fill out the entire thing again. Inexcusable! I grudgingly redid the paperwork, and sat down to wait. And wait I did, for another hour and a half. I complained many times, and each time, was told that the doctor would be with me in just a few minutes. As I waited, I watched others who had WALKED IN without an appointment see the doctor before those with appointments did. Finally, my complaints paid off, and I saw the doctor, who was extremely rushed and not thorough at all. I needed glasses, and so asked how long it would take to get the lenses put in. They told me it would be 3-4 weeks, which I thought was unacceptable. I told them that I needed the frames for travelling in four days, and they promised that they would get them to me. Well, today, the fourth day after my appointment, I called the receptionist, and she told me that my glasses wouldn't be ready for another few days. The one redeeming quality about this place? The manager, after I caused some trouble, waived my copay fee. I will absolutely never return to this place. read more

I originally came here because my friend Dr. Angela Chen was the optometrist here. Alas, she ran off to Taiwan with her husband... but I stuck around. Enter Dr. Theresa Wu - she's very friendly, takes her time with you to make sure a thorough examination has been done. She caught my eye infection (that I wasn't totally aware of) and prescribed me meds that may have kept me from being blind if the infection got worse. (Okay, so I'm dramatizing the story slightly.) She said that I should throw away the current lens and wear glasses ASAP. When I told her I could go home and get them, she gave me a temporary pair of dailies so I wouldn't have to wear my faulty contact lenses home. The follow-up exam was done by this guy I knew in college, Dr. James Yao, and it was extremely hilarious watching him be professional when I knew him to be a bit more goofy. Anyway, the only reason I would deduct a star would be that yes, their glasses and contacts are a tad pricey. I know that I can order my contacts cheaper on 1-800-contacts.com or a few other locations. However, I am also dirt lazy so I just ordered through them... and they threw in (for free) a new cleaning solution for contacts that are supposed to be less drying than what I was currently using (Clear Care.) I felt like everyone there was really nice to me, but they definitely weren't sure which language to speak to me since I have an ambiguous last name and my face looks of unknown Asian origin. But seriously, super thumbs up to Dr. Wu. She didn't blink twice about giving me extra packs of eye drops for my super dry eyes (dry eyes = part of the cause of my eye infection). She was nothing but professional and I would go back just for her. read more

Without that help, we would have been there for hours! Thank you to Dr. Ma and Grace for making making that visit better worthwhile. read more

I've been going to this place for a long time (at least 6 years or so)..not sure why. So far I've been pretty satisfied, although literally every single time I come in for my yearly appointment, the sales associates/optometrists comment that my prescription is very high, over and over again. Yeah, I know my eyesight is awful, why bring it up? I've been coming here almost every week for the last month to order new contacts and feel like they are disorganized. The last doctor raised the prescription in both of my eyes but a trial pair for the right eye wasn't available in the new prescription, so she just gave me a pair in my original prescription. For the next 2 weeks, I felt like my vision was getting blurry sometimes. This weekend, I came in yet again to finalize buying the contacts, and the new doctor that checked out my eyes said that the prescription in my left eye was too high but the right one was fine.. so basically my prescription is the same as it was last year, but the last doctor wanted to raise my prescription.. I was also annoyed because 2 weeks ago the optometrist once again looked at my chart and laughed, saying, "Wow, your prescription is so high." Come on, I'm not even legally blind.. and even if I was, that's just rude. What am I supposed to say to that? Next year I'll probably look for another optometry place to get new contacts/glasses. read more
