Good food, bad service. Dined in 3 times. First time was great. Second time the waiter was catatonic. Third time was a busy Friday night. We were seated and it took 5-10 minutes to be greeted and get a glass of water. We were served our appetizers and soup 15 minutes after that. 50 minutes into being seated still no entre. We just moved here from Houston - where there are innumerable excellent Asian cuisine options. Well - Golden Stix IMO Is as good as or way better than 90% of the ones I've tried in houston. Their vegetables are fresh and diverse (lots of them) , sauces more complex than your above average Chinese restaurant, and - when your order spicy (level 1-3) 1 = mild, 3 = hot; I ordered a 2 spice level and it hit the spot! You know, the food was really pretty good. I want to give it a try more frequently to see how the consistency of food & service is, and perhaps update my review accordingly. We were seated fairly quickly and service was initially very prompt but we saw probably 4 different servers and all were pretty young, except the manager who stopped by to check on us. But when we needed someone, it was a bit hard to flag them down.... The food options are great - many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options which I suuups appreciate. Food came out FAST. My only real qualm was their rice was sub-par (YES, THE PLAIN WHITE RICE.)- it was not that it was cooked poorly, rather, it was just not very high quality rice. Yes, I am a rice snob. Some may not care....I happen to. It was a little too dry and I like my rice on the dry side... thick and grainy like store-brand long grain white rice. I think if they invested a little more in a good medium grain or at least jasmin rice, and upped their hospitality, this place could really shine! Long story short, I will return, I want to try more of their food. read more

I ordered from the lunch menu and for a great price received a cup of hot and sour soup that was perfectly spiced, Kung Pao beef with excellent beef and fresh vegetables, and a crisp and tasty egg roll and crab wonton. We USED TO love eating here. Now, it is like eating straw. We ordered takeout a month ago and the chicken was so over cooked, it was like the scene out of Christmas Vacation when the turkey is carved and deflates. We decided to give it another try tonight. Same situation all over again. I won't even feed the uneaten food to my dog. You can't chew the chicken because it's so over cooked and dry--it is like straw. The rice was dry too, but not inedible. It's hard living up in the mountains to have good quality take out options. I really hate that this restaurant's quality has declined. read more

We've lived in Conifer for years and this place was never great but after the new owners took over, they're making some high quality Chinese food! It's better than anything we've ever found in Boulder or Denver when we used to live down there. Customer service is amazing and we probably go here once a week now. Love it! read more

Doesn't rice come with every meal? Apparently not. My recommendation if doing takeout (everyone in COVID times) should carefully check to see if it is included. This place used to be very good....not at all anymore. Do NOT order the Pad Thai!! My experience: Ordered take out and guy who answered the phone was hard to hear because of because of static and background noise. Not a big deal but then... Order was wrong, so I'm glad I double checked before I left. High school kids mostly working counter and servers. Double check your change, they tend to get the money wrong as another customer behind me experienced. Egg drop soup was good. Pad Thai was terrible!! It tasted like they put spaghetti sauce in it. Worst customer service, and the order is ALWAYS wrong. High school kids basically run the place, and have no guidance on good customer service because the owner, Jason, is rude and disrespectful to customers. Their food isn't even that good. And their vegetables are cut so big, you could basically choke on them. I asked them if I could get the veggies cut up smaller, and they said they can't cut up the "pre-cut" vegetables. Seriously? Love, love, love this place! Such a hidden gem. I recently moved to Conifer and this is my go to restaurant when I don't want to cook. Not only do they offer vegan options, but they also offer options that are vegan and gluten free - AND RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS. Finally, a Chinese food restaurant that offers mock meats that aren't weird and gross! The staff is always super nice when we come in and very knowledgeable about dietary accommodations. If I could give zero stars, I would. Food is pretty good, I'd say. Hot&Sour soup, especially is delicious. I go/went there for lunch at least once a week for months, now. Service has never been friendly, I'd say, but also never rude. Today owner/waiter harangued me for not saying "please" when I told the hostess I wanted iced tea instead of hot tea. Of all the Chinese places to which I've been, regardless of the state, this has got to be among the best. What is even more surprising is that it is located here in the mountains, where any quality food (let along quality Asian food) is indeed a hard find. First, let me start by saying that the food is FRESH - extremely high quality. The chefs most certainly know how to prepare this. Every possible way to rate the food, from texture, presentation and taste, would get perfect reviews. I have never had a less than stellar dish at this restaurant. For appetizers: Try the soups, egg rolls, or better yet, the tempura vegetables. For my friend, this is the only way he will eat broccoli. The main dishes: I believe our favorite is the Golden Stix in chicken. This is like done in something like an orange, chili sauce (somewhat similar but spicier than a sweet-n-sour) and it is perfect. The Mongolian dishes, Kung Pao and rice bowls are also superb. Even the curry is quite nice. In addition, they serve their dishes with complimentary jasmine tea which is lovely. You can also order other teas if desired, though these are not complimentary. My only complaint is that there are few tables in this tiny restaurant. Plan on coming at an off-time or plan on a long wait. As this is the mountains, off times are after 7pm or in the smack middle of a weekday afternoon. Also, the young waitstaff is at best mediocre though still friendly. Do not expect a fine dining level of service, which is true throughout the mountains. That being said, even if I moved off the mountain, I would still make the long drive to dine here and would accept the wait. It is worth every minute. read more

Tonight was their 6th night being open. The wait staff is figuring out their rhythm. The food is very good. This is the best Chinese I had outside of SF or SoCal. The dumplings / pot stickers might be the best I ever had. The Udon noodles & Orange Tango chicken remind me of meals from my favorite Chinese place near LAX. We have dinner plans with neighbors tomorrow night and we heading to Golden Stix. The only down side is they have 8 tables for 4 people, so if they get busy you might have a wait. *** Update ** Went back a 2nd time with friends and we had the Mongolian Beef, Chicken Curry, Chicken Udon noddles & Drunken Noodles. All dishes were great. We spent time talking with the owner (Jason). I now understand why the food is so good. Jason grew up in So Cal, which IMHO has the best Asian outside of Asia. Great Chinese Food with Good Service and Functional Ambiance Great Chinese food has arrived in the Chinese Food challenged Highway 285 corridor! Family run by a Chinese Family in both the kitchen and the front, and it shows in the quality and flavor of the food. An extensive interesting menu. They also have some other popular Asian dishes on the menu (although I did not sample them). The Hot and Sour soup has lots of ingredients (hard to find these days). Something missing in the taste that I could not figure out, but it still tasted good. The Egg Roll has great flavor and actually has a good amount of meat in it (hard to find these days). I find most Cheese Wontons uninteresting, but theirs are delicious! The Kung Pao has great flavor and correctly sized ingredients. The Chili Peppers were properly charred, giving it that great taste that can only come from correctly charring the Chili. It did have large pieces of Green Pepper, which are not part of Kung Pao, but only a couple pieces, so easy to pick out. If they are going to add Green Pepper, why not correctly Kung Pao cube them? Good Service that really cares about your experience. The Service is a bit choppy at times, but good and also friendly A nice, although very simple ambience. A small space, so can take a while to be seated at prime times (and even off prime). They are located in the King Soopers Shopping Center in the far East side where other restaurants are located. No liquor license at this time although they are in the early stages to acquire one. A Great Chinese food experience not to be missed. OK, this isn't a well-kept secret anymore! Sat. nite at 6pm, 10 minute wait for an open table. Place was packed, with 2-3 groups outside waiting to be seated. That's a good thing - this is an experience worth waiting for! Service is great (ask for Lindsey), food is fantastic! We had sesame beef and mayonnaise shrimp as entrees, one white rice, one fried rice, and the wonton/egg roll appetizer. Everything was delicious! When my husband and I were looking for a house in Conifer, I was a bit disheartened to know there's only 1 Chinese buffet in the area. A couple of weeks after we moved in, we were informed about Golden Stix. We went there with curiosity mixed with expectation and a dash of doubt. But the doubt was replaced immediately with satisfaction as soon as we tried the steamed dumpling. It was unexpectedly good! And it continues to ascend when our main course arrived: The Pork General Tao (that has a kick, not just labeled spicy), and Orange Tango Chicken. Both are delicious! The portion is great for a $9 - $10 dish. They also serve brown rice, which we appreciate greatly. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu selection is impressive, that includes vegetarian options and Thai dishes. Looking forward to many, many visits and try other items on the menu. read more

Best Chinese, um, I mean restaurant in Conifer, period! Family owned, family run, ...even the chefs are family. That seems to be the golden combination for this establishment. Sadly, in this town there are not only not many decent restaurants, but when one does seem to open, it's not open very long. I have my theories, and I believe them to be very true, but none-the-less...Conifer is not a place to venture to for good food, service, etc...Except...AT GOLDEN STIX. I have family that lives in Morrison and they eat here at least 4 times a week. It's that good. And at lunch? Forget-about-it! There's sometimes a line out the door! And one thing to mention- they have some of the most well-prepared golden fried tofu around. Although, it could be a little more firm.. So, in closing, while I don't consider the location ideal, (at least not for me..I live in Denver) this restaurant proves that you don't have to be within the stronghold of a Metropololis to have awesome food , extensive variety & great service. (You maybe just need to be family.) One thing: they need to put up some blinds or something..when the sun shines in ..it's not only hot, but somewhat uncomfortable if you are facing the windows. read more

I give this place fives stars for what it is......excellent American-Chinese food. This is by far the best American-Chinese I have ever had. I am so surprised it is up in the mountains. I tell you though, it is worth the extra 20 minute drive from Denver. It is a nice drive as well. The restaurant is very quaint and nicely decorated. It is a nice place to dine rather then get take-out although it is small so you may have a wait on a busy night. Rub Buddas belly when you walk in for good luck! Portions are large (you will have some to take home) and prices are good. The service is great. Not one complaint here. I had Mango Shrimp and tried Kung Pao Chicken. Both were cooked perfectly and very tasty. Their menu has a big selection of typical dishes and dishes you don't find in every other American-Chinese restaurant. I am an asian foodie.. Being in Conifer was well depressing... Evergreen was the closest decent place... Until Golden Stix.. This is not a stand out authentic Chinese dining experience but its a good value and solid if Americanized Chinese place. Dont take that the wrong way this is what most folks up here crave and they execute well. I do suggest stepping outside the box for the eggplant dish and the darn good pot stickers. Staff is friendly and portions are large. You can count on this being well good :) Is it the experience of China Jade on Iliff no but if your looking to solve that sesame chicken or hot and sour soup craving you cant go wrong. Owner is a very cool guy from California I admire his ethic in coming out from CA and taking a shot at chinese in the mountains of Colorado with little more than an idea. Oh my goodness, who would have thunk it? This is the BEST restaurant in Conifer and Evergreen where you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for some good food. Hot and sour soup was prefect as well as main dishes. Very clean and these people are actually friendly unlike other Asian restaurants. Oh and the hot tea was a bonus on this cold afternoon. If you don't know yet, I like cheap, fast, and good food and this place hits the spot! We consulted Yelp after ziplining and Golden Stix was nearby so we decided to have dinner here. When we entered, we were seated immediately and was served with hot tea and water. I noticed that there are only few tables so if you don't want to wait to be seated, might as well do a take out. Food was pretty good. I love their egg rolls (I am a Filipino and I have had my share of egg rolls) and their lo mein. If we ever visit Colorado again, we would definitely stop by and have a grub. read more

We went here around 2 on Saturday. The service was very odd. The food was great though. One of the friends I was with is vegan so it was nice to find a place that she had more than just salad as a lunch option. Odd service: they told us to sit wherever. After a minute they brought over a bowl of what we think is sweet and sour sauce with a schmear of hot mustard, but the mustard was a little dry and crusty so it seemed sort of unappetizing and we didn't actually try and figure it out. That was it. No water, menus. Eventually, someone brought water and a teapot (with no glasses). After a few more minutes we broke out the grapes to snack on, it was after 2 and one of my party has diabetes and needed something soon, we were really hungry and a bit weirded out by the service up to this point so not really sure about the prospects of food coming out. Finally, someone brought cups for tea and menus, ahhh glorious moment. They even brought a regular menu, ie non lunch special, with the vegan/vegetarian section.
