With regards to the heating of our home, the windows were no better than screens. I reached out, looking for windows and installers. I had a few people come in and estimate the job. None of them impressed me until Greg from Windows on Washington came over. He walked me through several options and explained how the windows they used were manufactured and why. Windows on Washington got the job. My windows and my doors were being manufactured. So they sent out a wonderful gentleman to get the final accurate measurements. Great guy. After that, communication was wonderful as were were assessed of the stage we were in. This included when we got the email and calls explaining that, since we were on a higher floor, they needed to bring in some equipment to lift the new doors up to our balcony. No surprises. Installation day was amazing as Joon and his team came in, got everything into place, and cleaned up the areas to better than when they got here. Joon then went over the features on our windows and even explained how we get to and clean the outsides of the glass. Wonderful man and amazing team. Since then, we have gotten copies of our warranty and the guarantees. And the company has reached out twice to ask if we have any questions and to ensure that we are happy with our windows. We are. We are very happy with our windows. Almost as happy as we are with the people who got them into our home.

After all, it is our home and we want to make certain we get the best products, expert craftsmanship, and clean installation that is issue free. The crew was on time, professional, communicated process well and worked hard to do a good job the correct way. The crew lead was Jeff and he was super professional and came across as very honest. They cleaned throughout the entire process, installed all products that fit perfectly with expert skills. They did a thorough job at insulation replacement windows and the finish caulk job was immaculate. The look from the curb is stunning and I can notice how well the windows are performing as it seems the air is running less in just the week we had them. We love our new Okna 800 windows and Eric and team killed it!

They were super responsive anytime I reached out with questions. Emails and calls were returned quickly, which made the whole process feel smooth and stress-free. They also got someone out pretty fast to measure the windows, so things kept moving without delays. I ordered 10 windows for my townhouse at the end of February, and everything stayed on track. The windows came in April, and installation was set up for the very next week, exactly how they said it would go. The install team (two guys, led by the amazing Mark) was awesome, very professional, worked efficiently, and took the time to protect my floors and furniture. They cleaned up as they went, which I definitely appreciated. Scott, the owner, stayed in touch throughout the day of installation and honestly throughout the whole process. I had a couple of window and sash issues but Scott was amazing and the kind of communication and follow-through really stood out. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the experience. They did exactly what they said they would do, and the customer service was top-notch. I'd definitely recommend ZEN Windows to anyone. It really was a calm, "ZEN-like" experience. Haha!!

    Capitol Improvements

    Downtown

Part 1 - Absolutely My #1 Trusted Roofing Company in the Market…read moreThis review is long overdue; however, I wanted to make sure I took the time to give Capitol Improvement the accurate and thorough review that they deserved for their hard work on our new TPO roof they installed. In Spring 2023, I started performing market research on various roofing companies in the DC Metropolitan area. This was a very time-consuming endeavor for which I ultimately received roughly nine (9) quotes/bids and determined four (4) or the nine (9) to be competitive and capable of meeting our specifications. Subsequently, you guessed, Capitol Improvement was awarded the project and met the requirements with no delays, no games and no hidden fees or added cost. How it started... From the submission of the quote, the Owner, Pat was responsive and available to answer all my questions. He was transparent from the start and explained in detail the cost, warranties and even walked me through the comparison of the different material options to help me gain an understanding of the lifecycle and quality of the different roofing systems. It is with true confidence, I can say that Pat has built his family owned business on the core principles of customer service, strong business ethics, honesty and fairness. These attributes are becoming obsolete in today's market; however, Pat has managed to instill in his two (2) sons Austin and Lance these principles. Which brings me to the initial site visit with the Project Coordinator, Lance, who truly exemplifies professionalism, expertise and most importantly the skill sets to build a trusting relationship with the customer. I never felt pressured to move forward and every question was met with an answer I could trust and the rationale or documentation to support the response. If ever there was something that Lance could not provide a response or was outside of his expertise; he would immediately contact the subject matter expert and/or research the matter and provide a clear and concise response. During the course of our interaction, I never felt doubtful or apprehensive with the information provided or work being performed. Lance took the time to review the details of the proposal and warranties; in addition to negotiating the terms or the contract he provided copies of all certifications, business licenses, certification of liability insurance and all other pertinent documents. Honestly, I did not have to ask for any required documentation and everything was timely and legitimate. Pat's words held true, that Capitol Improvement operates with integrity and commitment partnering with their customers to get the job done. This was also reflected in my interaction with the Install Manager, Seth and Site Manager, Sam. From day one (1) of the staging and prep for install, which started in October 2023, they literally walked me through the project step-by-step. From assessing the roof original state, taking photographs for record to conducting the initial inspection of the roof to explain the demolition. There was no stone left unturned. As with any project, as issues or concerns were discovered after removing several layers of the original material, which could not have been foreknown, the Site Manger would immediately stop work, notify the Install Manager and myself and ensure all changes/modification were approved prior to moving forward. If impacts resulted in additional cost they were discussed in detail. In one case Pat was willing to share in the cost and find a feasible and cost-effective solution. The entire process was well documented and communication was clear. The job was completed in the time frame estimated and every employee and team member were professional, polite and each day made sure no trash or debris was left on-site. Every team was considerate of the noise-level and was here to provide quality service. Seth and Sam, are definitely a representation of the employees who strive to get the job right, take pride in their craftmanship and aim to please. As with all things in life... we must leave room for the unexpected and during the project there was an unexpected mishap that occurred for which was immediately remedied by the Capitol Improvement Team. They took ownership and accountability and made sure it was no additional expense or stress on my end. How they addressed the matter was another demonstration of the integrity of the Capitol Improvement. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with craftmanship, quality of the materials used, and services rendered by the install team.

To begin, this company provides a very good window. They represent themselves as providing…read more Superior Selection, Expert Installation, No-Hassle Warranty. Safety and Accessibility, Beautiful By Design, One Day Installation, Easy Maintenance. and Long-Last Materials. Having just had 13 windows installed, I have no reason to refute any of these claims. From my experience their primary focus is on making the sale and not ensuring a high quality customer experience. Pricing transparency? Clear as mud. They gladly apply discounts to reduce the "actual cost" that are pulled out of an I pad. Smoke and mirrors. Even greater savings are available if you "just sign today --- but no pressure". Expect to learn everything about the construction of the window and their "design, build, install" model. Do NOT expect them to share any details about the installation process or provide firm timeframes. How so? We ordered custom windows, and they explained those take longer. Makes sense. The we received an installation date longer than we were told to expect. OK. Friday morning before the installation the following Monday we received a text message confirming our installation would be the following Tuesday, as we had been told weeks earlier. It asked us to confirm, which we did. At 4:58 pm that same Friday I receive a voice mail message : "Because your windows are painted I have been advised by our factory there will be a delay. I am tentatively scheduling a new date of ....17 days later." The windows were always to be painted, and the installation date was already moved back 2 weeks as a result. After our order we learned we'd also need to remove all the blinds beforehand. Makes sense - and we were glad we asked. "But there is no need to remove the brackets to the blinds" was the guidance provided. Whew. On the day of installation, the installers removed all the brackets. Because they had to. Installation day: we did not think to ask how much interior access to our home would be needed. All windows needed to be brought through our house (installers asked for access through the longest route possible, oddly), all old windows removed using that same route. Shabby cloth runners were placed on our floors, which at least somewhat reduced the grime from work boots traveling across our floors all day. Alas, at the end of the day after the drop cloths were removed, an installer had to go back through our home with no floor coverings left to retrieve tools and a drop cloth that were left behind upstairs. Enter new grime in places that had dodged that day's grime. Additionally, about a quarter of our window sills were full of grime left over from the installation. Brackets could not be reinstalled (by us) for 24 hours so the caulk could dry. While none of these many annoyances represent deal breakers, Thompson Creek's "expert technicians" who meet with you to pitch their products make an effort to help prospective customers understand "what to expect". Finally --- after providing a check for my deposit there was likely something in the sales agreement indicating the balance would be electronically swept from that same bank account upon completion. What makes me think that? Because upon completion I asked the installer if I could provide him my credit card information to pay the balance owed. "No the office will be in contact with you." Expecting a call, I instead received an alert from my bank app within the hour that the balance owed was being taken from my checking account --- the same one I paid the deposit from. A nice last surprise from this company. This company provides a good product. Their competitors are few, which they well know. That may explain why their "after the sale" process consistently demonstrated they prioritize making the sale over the total experience of their customers.

Despite the setbacks, the installers were professional and the finished door looks very nice. Once…read morethe installation was finally completed correctly, the quality of the product itself met my expectations. However, the overall process was far more stressful than it should have been. My original appointment was scheduled back in February, but no one showed up, and when I called, I was told the appointment was not even in the system so they had to rescehdule. Then on installation day, the crew arrived with the wrong size and wrong color door, which delayed the installation and caused me to miss work. Communication throughout the process was slow, and I had to repeatedly call and request escalation before receiving consistent updates. Ironically, communication became much quicker when it came time to collect the final payment. While compensation was eventually offered, it felt like the minimum possible amount considering the inconvenience and lost time involved. In the end, the final product turned out well, but the scheduling, communication, and ordering issues made the experience frustrating overall.

While the salesman seemed…read moreknowledgeable, there are some issues of which I am not satisfied and based on these, I would not recommend Window Nation. First, the energy efficiency of the product is lacking. The salesman, using a sample window and a little device, noted the temperature on one side of the window using the device and then noted the temperature on the other side of the window without the device. A marked difference. However, this winter during a cold spell, my home was quite cold. I had to increase the heating system thermostat temperature to make the home warmer. I put my hand on the inside of several of the windows and surprise, the cold was coming through the window. I had to purchase new thermal drapes to put on windows to try and keep cold out. My utility bills were through the roof this winter so that little gadget was useless. Secondly, when closing an open window, the upper pane slides down with the lower pane and you have to reach up the outside of the windows to push the upper section back into place to be able to lock the window. Lastly, I opted for the 18 month promotion. The service company Window Nation uses is named "Service Finance Company, LLC". THEY ARE A WASTE!!!!!!!! All of their Customer Service Representatives are offshore and when you call, they have no clue how to solve your billing issue. I pay my bills online and since purchasing the windows, I have only had ONE (1) month where I did not have a problem making the payment. All in all, I would suggest that you look elsewhere for windows and not window nation. Oh, and one more item, I received a card in the mail noting a promotion, but 2 get 2 free. Well, it was bogus as the salesman noted that this promotion does not include installation.
