We went on a weekday around 3 and it was just 10.99 for early bird dinner buffet. Not bad at all, good fried shrimp and fish as well as broiled. I don't eat meat, but hubby got a cheeseburger and fried chicken which he said was good. Btw the Mac and cheese looked terrible, a strange bright orange color so I didn't try it. The fries were good and veggies tasty. For dessert there was bread pudding, peach and apple cobbler served warm. Other server Candy was phenomenal. It seemed she was the only server that day, but she was fast cleaning all the tables and friendly. We arrived right at 4:00 PM. Their hot bar was only about 50% filled, and what was there was dried out. This was the worst buffet I have ever been to. Fortunately, they started serving steak about the time we arrived. It was the only fresh thing on the hot bar. The salad bar was better, as was the dessert bar. I checked before we left, they had brought out a few fresh items, but put the old dried out stuff on top of the new. First we were under the impression that the Senior Lunch Buffet was priced at $10.99 between the hours of 3:00pm & 4:00pm. We were charged $12.99. The salad bar no longer has Egg on it. The chicken was cold and saturated with grease which tasted terrible. Hot dog was available but No Buns were available. The steak fries were Cold as Usual. The Pizza was Cold as Usual. Located right on US Hwy 19 in Springhill this location has been operating since 2013. It's the closest location since Covid hit and closed down our only one in Citrus county. Their servers are very friendly and conscientious of their customer's needs. Yes, their prices just like every other eating establishment has gone up during these hard economic times but I feel it's still a great deal for the all you can eat variety of food they serve. They have a very extensive salad bar where I make the salad of my dreams! I really enjoy their imitation crab salad that I put on the side. Three selections of soup are served daily - today's choices were Chili, New England Clam Chowder and Chicken Noodle. My hubby alternates between their Chili or the New England Clam Chowder while I prefer the Chicken Noodle soup. Their broth while light still has plenty of flavor and it's stocked with celery, carrots and wide egg noodles with chicken meat throughout. Very good and comforting to my soul! Most of their entrees rotate according to the day but there are some that's a regular offering. Baked and fried chicken, broiled and fried fish, pot roast with carrots and potatoes, Bourbon chicken, Meatloaf topped with a tomato sauce, pizza, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti casserole - just a few to mention. Love vegetables? This is a go to place for veggies! Along with their salad bar they serve cabbage, brussel sprouts, broccoli, carrots, black eyed peas, beans, fried okra, corn, usually four types of potatoes, whipped, French fries, seasoned fried potato wedges and a potato casserole with Cheddar cheese on top. After all that - their dessert bar is just waiting for you and calling your name! Various cakes, cookies, brownies and pies plus puddings and soft serve vanilla or chocolate ice cream and all the candy toppings and whipped cream to decorate your choice to your hearts content! I certainly enjoy their carrot cake that's loaded with shredded carrots and chopped walnuts with a delicious cream cheese frosting that's not too sweet. I take comfort in the fact that it has a healthy vegetable in all that scrumptiousness! To me Golden Corral is an 3 1/2 star rating - depending on who's cooking that day because if they're not experienced enough some meats and casseroles can be over cooked and dry. Like today the pork steaks were way over cooked for as thin as they were. What a shame - they smelled great and were tasty but were tough to chew. The French fries were hot and crisp but way too salty. My grandkids even complained about them to the point they refused to eat them until I took a napkin and wiped off each French fry so they were edible!The broccoli was limp and tasteless - even the Cheddar cheese sauce couldn't revive it! Meatloaf was a little too overdone on the outside so I just ate the middle which was still delicious. I still consider Golden Corral a great deal for AUCE decent tasting food and all you can drink for a price of $ 13.38 for an adult meal with friendly servers! Golden Corral is an All-You-Can-Eat buffet that has: a salad bar, a taco station, a pasta and parmigiana station, a Southern food station, a burger & fries station, a dessert bar, and the Prime Rib Station. In short, there's something for everyone, including picky eaters, vegetarians, and carrot cake addicts like me. Imo their best dish is the Beef Pot Roast. The lunchtime cost is very reasonable, the dinner cost almost twice as much, but they get you on the drinks. It's $2.49 to add soda or tea to your meal. Believe you me, you will eat $8 worth of food and everyone in your party will find their flavor. Speaking of parties, families have 10-12 people parties there now and you don't have to bus your own tables. The waitresses fill your sweet tea, give you napkins, remove your empty plates, and sanitize between every customer. They are a bit obsessive about sanitizing. Masks are required to enter, but can be removed at your table and they practice Social Distancing. Why did I remove a star? Because their dishwasher isn't hot enough and sometimes the plates and silverware have food stuck on them, but then I just take a different plate. We had quite the issue here tonight out of what i believe to be a female manager. We chose to celebrate a birthday at this location tonight. What a bad choice that was. It wasn't super busy this evening but there was a small line for steak so my mother and two daughters waited in line. My mother had an emergency so she needed to go to the restroom. My two daughters stood behind in line. My mother asked my oldest to get a piece when it was their turn. When it was their turn my youngest got hers and left apparently they didn't realize there was two of them so the lady came from the back yelling at my child to get in the back of the line in front of the entire restaurant when she had been standing there with her sister for a steady 10 minutes give or take. Her story was that she mistook them and thought it was the same child asking again. "Bs" story to say the least because why would you ask the child to go to the back of the line if you knew she had already been standing there and thought it was the same child. No she thought nobody was with my child so she got rude but little did she know I was standing behind her. It quickly turned loud and ugly in defense of my child. An adult woman should never speak to a child the way she did and no apology in the world can make up for her poor behavior and bad decisions today towards a young child. I understand that we all make mistakes however not when it's involving a child. If you thought a child skipped a line you do not raise your voice at them. You explain it to them but in this case my two were already awaiting their turn. People do often mistake them for twins but again even if she had she still knew that she had been waiting in line. The only difference was that their grandmother left the line with them due to a restroom emergency. The lady never apologized to my daughter. On the brighter side of things, we did have a super nice server so thank you to her at least. read more

Sunday afternoon decided to go to Golden Corral for dinner. Went to the one in Spring Hill. Worst meal ever had at a GC. The sale was wet and lettuce was brown on most of it. The tomatoes were best described as sun dried and on the verge of being bad. The steak was way over cooked , dry and had a lot of gristle. Took 4 tries to get an over cooked or under cooked piece of meat. Not really steak. The ribs were to the point of dehydrated with raw sauce poured on top. Struck out there. So decided to try the wings again meat was dry and had no moisture but plenty of sauce to cover up very dried out meat. The fried chicken looked okay but had already tried 3 different meats. The baked potato wrapped in foil had been reheated too many times. What was supposed to be white was brown and cold center. The only thing that was good was the fried okra. On the bright side I wish I could remember my servers name she was amazing. Again this was the worst meal I have ever had at the restaurant. A trip to Spring Hill means a highly anticipated stop at the Golden Corral. I would have said you couldn't get a bad meal there. But on 1/25/24 about 3:00, I had the worst meal imaginable. Usually, I love the stuffing but today it looked mushy. I took it anyway and sure enough, it was mushy. Please don't let the responsible employee ever make the dressing again. The cold crab salad tasted off. The potato salad was fixed with salt and pepper. There was little pot roast served separately from the vegetables. I got a small piece of pot roast which was good enough. But the matching cut up potatoes should have been cooked longer. The cabbage was off and needed more butter or seasoning. The green beans and onion rings were good. So I paid for take out and ate cabbage and green beans for $20.00. Never again. We attempted to tell Emily, our waitress, that the chicken was undercooked because it was cold, pink, and pink juices came out of it when it was cut into. She cut us off repeatedly and said it was just the seasoning. The family and I opted to try out the weekend breakfast bar. The selection was good, from fresh fruit to bacon and eggs. There was even ice cream. I could smell cinnamon as we walked through the door, and I just knew I would find something yummy. The French toast was basic bread, but there I found the cinnamon my palette was longing for. There was a short wait in line to pay before entering, but the cashier was very upbeat. Our server was excellent too. The restaurant was neat, clean and well lit. We ate there because we were starving. Some golden crowds are good and then there's this one. The waitress was awkward making unnecessary conversation that didn't make sense. Some people were using gloves on the handles of food and others weren't. Nobody was using the hand sanitizer. The food was OK. Typical busy buffet with multiple food stations including salad, taco, pizza, southern food, a grill to order area with burgers, steaks and pork chops, bread station and the desert station with chocolate waterfall dip, soft serve,pies and cakes, and cotton candy in a bag. There is plenty of food and you won't go hungry. Why only three stars? Just not my thing. A ton of people serving themselves and they are messy spilling food on the counters faster than staff can clean up. Hundreds of people touching the utensils just turn me off. The tables are clean. No. Just so much no. But let us be reminded to always look on the sunny (Golden?) side of life and I shall find one or two things to compliment about this once-twinkling star. The only yesses? So much food for the money, always friendly waitstaff (tip them well, please, if you do go there, because they do work hard and are probably not responsible for the issues). Why did I go, if I hate the gluttony and dubious cleanliness of buffets, you ask? Glad you asked. Because it's the only place most family, including DH, will all agree to go, especially when people come in from out of town. Where all palates can be tickled. But Jumping Jehosephat, some sort of liquid/condensation dripping from a moldy, mildewy ceiling into my freshly scooped plate of salad? Yes, I pointed it out to a staff member and no, they didn't look surprised. "Oh there? It's been dripping there," they said, with a resigned and slightly embarrassed look. He didn't even have to look up where I was pointing to, as he worked in that general area and seemed well aware of Hot Springs, Ceiling. Do the managers know? "Yes." Okey-dokey, we will start that juice cleanse early, then. But, I sit down and pick through my salad lettuce to look for a forkful to stab to eat so I don't appear ungrateful to the ones who brought me out (after all, I have had some tasty meals here at this very same buffet during previous visits with other family) and what do I spy? A dead housefly... non-fruit variety. Somehow a fruitfly would have seemed more reasonable and less gross under the circumstances. I point it out to the kindly, southern-charm gal waitress, ensuring her that I'm not out for a free meal but only concerned for the other dining patrons. Again, no look of surprise. Kindness, but no remedy. No table visit from a night manager that one would expect during such an exciting event. Perhaps my lowered voice was too subtle, and Madea should have been channeled for the evening... Highlight of the night? I run into Nikki and TJ and their children (you don't know them but if you did, you'd understand why this is always awesome). I'm a "glass half full" kind of gal, so I'm going to leave two stars, not one, for the simple factor of waitstaff awesomeness (nonplussed by pestilence and plagues), taste of food in a buffet setting, sheer amusement factor, and the fact that my "brother" (in quotes in case anybody disputes that this awesome guy is indeed my brother) was taking me out for my birthday on the night in question. He, my husband and I exited the restaurant with the most terrific and raucous case of gas one could ever expect from a hearty, or in my case light, meal. Again, Yelp points given for amusement! Yelps in general for stomach cramps, which did subside. Spring Hill is no stranger to objects in food and food incidents in general so I took it in stride and other than alerting two staff members and others in anecdotal dire warnings in the following weeks (mostly my uncle, who considers the place his mainstay for meal outings and whose patronage can't be dissuaded due to GC's good value, food-size wise), I didn't alert the presses until now, to you, my dear and loyal readers, two and a half months later. That's how long it took the gas to pass (pardon me and the pun), the bloating to cease, and for me to venture into polite society again. We almost had to walk home, we were all suffering such bad indigestion. Fortunately it was a short distance. It was the best of times...it was the worst of times. Not one I'll soon forget.
