Everything could improve. Date I tried this place is 8-5-26 I read the reviews and it was mixed so I'm in town for 1 night and tried it. Their motto should be, "We will re-stir everything 37 times from when lunch ended and dinner starts." I was here at 5pm and nothing was fresh. Everything was dried out. Do yourself a favor and do not eat here. Stirring dried out old food does not make it look better AND IT DOESN'T add any moisture back onto it. read more

I had several issues with my visit to this place. The food selection was very limited. About half the items on the buffet table were either empty or looked like they'd been sitting there for hours and needed to be tossed. There were not many items left to choose from. The service was poor. It took several minutes to get seated even though there was no line, it took another few minutes for them to fill my drink order, and I was never offered a refill during my meal. The final surprise was that they charge extra for using a credit card with no advance warning. Once I knew about the charge, I told them I'd prefer to pay in cash, but gave up recognizing that it would take several minutes for them to figure out how to cancel the credit card transaction. They tried to claim the bank charged me directly, not wanting to admit that the bank charges the restaurant and that they are choosing to pass the charge along to me. Their whole attitude about the situation was off-putting. The food I was able to find at the buffet table was okay, but I will be looking elsewhere for a meal the next time I am in the area. read more

Got there an hour before closing. 75% of the food are almost empty or empty. When asked the lady about bringing more food, she said it's getting close in an hour. Crab legs are very tiny. Not sure why you would sell those skinny crab legs with tiny little meat in it. read more

Good variety of fresh dishes even though 1:45 PM, customers continued to roll in until we left as well. Service was friendly and price is fair for the quality of the food, we will bale back when in town and desiring Chinese food. A good find and with a try when in the mood! We had almost given up on finding decent Chinese here in Helena but upon reading fellow Yelpers reviews we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located in an old Wendy's and, with the exception of a few Chinese lanterns and some Asian inspired art, it looks the same. Everything was clean and sanitary. The waitress 8 We arrived at 4:30 on a Thursday and we were a bit dubious as there was only one other customer. We needn't have worried. It was $14.95 for the buffet. There was a good variety of choices and everything was fresh and hot. I was very surprised to get good hot and sour soup. Standouts included the pineapple shrimp, the honey shrimp and the crab legs. They also had a salad bar and dessert bar although I didn't try either. The longer we were there more customers came in and it was busy when we left. Golden Buffet lived up to it's name. read more

Food was cold and tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile. The lady that sat us and a gentleman were arguing with each other the whole time we were there. Very slow for a Wednesday afternoon so you would have figured the service should have been decent but that wasn't the case. I ate here on Wednesday, August, 30, 20/3, at 11:00 am for lunch. Obviously the pictures on the previous reviews are from the night buffet because all the good food wasn't available. The restaurant and toilets are clean and the buffet bar well stocked. It's best to arrive 30 minutes after opening to allow time for all food to be available. The staff are friendly and the customers mostly seem to be regulars. You may need to call over the wait person to get tea refills though. The food is mildly seasoned and while it looks like Chinese food it's seriously lacking in flavor. This seems to be the nature of most restaurant foods in the area. During my time here, the meatballs and spicy shrimp were the stars of the buffet. It's usually the chicken on a stick, but mildly flavored, not this time. There was only one other table when we got there, we were seated quickly. Then were directed to buffet. There were things mixed from old food and fresher food in same pan. Picked thru what looked ok and made a serving. When back at table soup was just warm not hot. The heat table must have been off all the different food pans not even room temp. Cold rice, cold beans, cold beef. Cold, cold, cold. Other people were complaining that thing were cold. When we were done and ready to pay bill, asked if we could have a discount for the cold food. Arrived at 6:00 and were greeted and shown to our table. Very friendly and checked a couple of times to see if we needed anything else. There was a good variety of dishes to choose from. The food was hot and delicious. My favorite was the salt and pepper shrimp. Glad to see that they changed the carpet and put in new flooring. read more

Food was not that good, rice tasted a day old. Orange chicken, other items were a big miss. Really disappointing, service was okay but when I asked to break a twenty all I got was ten dollars back. I laughed so hard because I honestly was going to tip 5 bucks. I laughed so all to the car and was I am sure you needed it. I'm surprised there isn't more reviews for this place. It's great! I came in from the cold after walking from my hotel and they instantly gave me some green tea to warm me up. Super grateful for that and their kindness. The food itself was fantastic and had a ton of flavor. There's plenty of options from seafood to spicy dishes, and just about everything in between. There's also a wide range of desserts to finish off your meal. The price for the buffet is very fair and I'll definitely be back again. Thanks again! read more

I got my food to go but wish I had stayed. The food quality and selection were better than I expected, especially for Helena. So I gave it a Helena 5 Star. The hostess was very kind and kept offering me more food even though my container was full. I'm glad I went and will definitely go back. Finally found good hot and sour soup with wontons. Always a great place to eat Chinese food in Montana. Prices are comparable to any other restaurant in town. Service is efficient. Staff is friendly. The only thing that was good here was the Texas Toast and fry bread covered in sugar. What was left for Chinese food, most the pans were empty, looked like it had been sitting out all day and was luke warm. I couldn't even finish my plate, the food was tasteless and nothing tasted as it should, including the deserts. My husband choked down one plate and went back for sweet & sour chicken, because how can you mess that up and couldn't even eat it. The cashier charged us for dinner pricing even though it was lunch and then argued with my husband when he told her he was over charged. The irony is there was a note that said "be respectful and don't waste good food" on the wall and the food was literally un-eatable. Been a while since we last ate at the L&D buffet at this location. Since then it has "changed hands" 2 or 3 times. Same package, different wrapper. We read on yelp that this time it really did change hands so we went in to try it. Place looks almost exactly as it did years ago except with freshly painted signs.... Food was just fair, but I will say it has improved immensely since the last time we were there. Didn't get sick from the food this time, so that was a plus. Absolutely amazing food! They aren't affiliated with the old l and d. My favorite is either the curry or the pepper chicken. If you eat in you get to enjoy the banter between the Chinese owner and the English-speaking waitress. It's great :) read more
