Okay This is the 3rd time I've ordered from here so I figured it's time for a review. All of the portions are generous and have ample amounts of meat & veggies. They definitely don't jip you on portion size! Everything is always piping hot and fresh. Mongolian beef: spicy, but not tooooo spicy. Good flavor. Great with the white rice. Tender meat and tasty onions in a dark sauce with tons of flavor. General Tso's chicken: spicy and sticky. This wasn't my absolute favorite ever, but that's just my personal opinion. It tasted good it was just a little too sauce-y for me, but a lot of people love that! A little zing without being over bearing. Definitely recommend if you like a lot of sauce! Sesame chicken: i LOVE this one. Crispy chicken pieces with a flavorful (not spicy) sauce and a side of rice. One of the staple Chinese meals for me. It's so flavorful and delicious and i will 100% be ordering again. Wonton Soup: i personally love wonton soup. I add some soy sauce and *chefs kiss Theirs could use a little more flavor, but all in all it's very enjoyable and i order it every time. White rice: sticky white rice. It's white rice, it's not dry. I like it with my entrees. The ONLY issue ive had is that twice now they haven't packed my rice box /: and as someone who eats it, I want it full to the top. Fried rice: I've had both the regular fried rice and the pork fried rice. Both full of flavor. I would enjoy more veggies but if you don't really like the veggies in there it's 100% for you. Tasty, not too salty, and great portions. Very enjoyable. Beef and broccoli: i LOVE beef and broccoli so im fairly picky. Theirs is so so good. Tender meat slices, and a good ratio of meet to broccoli!! Sauce is tasty and not over powering. Excellent flavor and great to mix in with white rice. I've ordered this twice now and really enjoy it! One portion lasts me 2-3 days Pepper steak: lots of steak, lots of peppers, comes with carrots and onions. Very very strong pepper flavor, but i LOVE that. Very tasty and great with white rice mixed in or even fried rice. Cheese puffs: I'm not going to lie, these aren't my favorite. Here's the thing. They're good, they have cream cheese and crab piece filling and are very tasty- however, 2 of the 3 times I've ordered them, the oil didn't taste good ): I'm fairly picky, so others may not notice this. The puffs themselves are really good i just can't stand old oil. /: Egg rolls: good size, good flavor. Again with the need to change the restaurant oil more frequently. But they're very tasty when the oil is fresh and they're a great price. The staff is very friendly and always quick to get to go orders out. I think they're priced extremely fairly and have great lunch deals. I've had several Chinese restaurants for lunch and dinner since i moved to this area a year ago and this place is by far the best. Definitely recommend!!

Ohhh geezz!! I hate to give three stars because I use to love this place!! I love how they remodeled the restaurant. It's very peaceful and the aesthetic is gorgeous! Customer service was amazing! Our waiter was so kind! We stopped in to grab lunch quickly! The dishes were presented very nice! The food seemed fresh but was not good! The hot & sour soup and wonton soup had no taste! It was very bland. The orange chicken and general Tso chicken had the same exact taste. The meat was chewy and tough. It was hard to eat. I really wanted to enjoy. As I said this was once one of my favorite spots!

I usually get Kung Pao Chicken, but tried the Chicken w/ vegetables today. Both good

Food & service are amazing! Waitress already knows my order. I highly recommend. I love that my waitress automatically adds extra green onions to my soup & plate

The chicken was so dry. It was like eating hay with sauce on it. The "fried rice" was old dry white rice with soy sauce mixed in. We gave them a solid try. Ordered all our favorites for this first visit just to get a clear picture. I'm glad we did because now I know.

Food was hot, nice appearance, friendly staff, warm ambience and reasonable pricing. More than enough fun with a shared cup of wonton soup, crab Rangoon, egg rolls to share the one meal and take home extra!

Updated review! They remodeled. It's now a nice restaurant with appropriate seating. The service was friendly. Food was not as good as I remember but pleasant.

So this was our favorite place. Now food portion are a joke. new containers are barely half full. We used to visit once a week but now only met with disappointment.

I had a great experience at ramen Tatsu-ya. It was my first time here & I was very impressed…read more I ordered the "mi-so-hot" & it was amazing. First - the ramen came out super fast. I was very surprised. And my broth was so delicious. It had such a rich umami flavor due to the miso & I thought the spice level was perfect. Honestly - I could eat jhst that broth for a whole meal. Unlike buldak or some other spicy ramens - the main selling point wasn't the spice. You could get an additional "spice bomb" if you wanted some more heat. The ramen toppings were good but not outstanding - same with the noodles. I thought the "mi-so-hot" was easily 3x better than "the og". The broth in "the og" was pretty interesting and more unique tasting. It felt like the main notes were just umami, pork, and oil. Not bad, but felt like it was missing a little something to make it truly good. If I had just got the OG, I'd rate this place a bit lower - but as it stands I'd 100% come back here for the "mi-so-hot" The interior was pretty nice. It was more "communal style seating" with a couple of big tables. There is also some smaller booths. It's an "order at the counter" type restaurant as well. I saw several comments about parking & was a bit concerned when driving over. I know that part of westheimer is always packed! But there is an attached parking lot & at 3pm on a Sunday, there was plenty of parking! Also - there is some street parking in the neighborhood north of the shop. Overall - will 100% be coming back for some more spicy ramen. Would recommend

The noodles had the perfect texture, the broth was full of flavor, and the heat was just right. Definitely a must-order-again for me. We started with the Sweet & Sour Sodas (Brussels sprouts) and Fried Gyoza. The Brussels sprouts were okay, but the gyoza I'd probably skip next time. Neither really stood out, especially compared to how good the ramen was. Add in a great atmosphere and friendly service, and overall this was a win. Next time I'm coming straight for the noodles!

Sushi Flight (6 Pieces, 4 Flavors) - Somehow 1,050 calories??? - Raw Salmon x2 - Strangely, I would have liked this colder. It was just okay. - Cooked Salmon x2 - I liked this a lot more than the raw salmon because it had a deeper flavor. - Scallops - Probably my favorite thing on this platter because of the smokiness they imbue with the torching. The sweet aftertaste was definitely worthwhile. - Shrimp - Not as fresh as I would have liked, as someone who's eaten a lot of shrimp, but I still liked the taste. Still, pretty mediocre. Tantan Tsukemen - Very interesting broth. Potent, salty, and full of bold flavor. My friend swapped the pork for chicken, and the chicken worked really well with the broth. They serve the chicken as a cold cut. This is a double-noodle dish with a soy milk-based dipping sauce. I normally would have ordered this because I LOVE tantan ramen, but I had to forgo it for the limited-time Creamy Truffle Ramen. Creamy Truffle Ramen - LOVED the broth. It was very light and creamy. I actually liked this a lot more than tonkotsu ramen. The truffle wasn't too overwhelming--just mild enough to hint at its flavor without becoming the only flavor profile you get. Truffle is like baking with rose water; finding that balance is quite hard. I will admit the whole table smelled like truffles, though. The torched king oyster mushroom paired wonderfully with the dish, and the broccolini was an equally interesting topping choice. I also found bits of melted Parmesan throughout the ramen, which the menu listed as an ingredient. The egg wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still a decent soy egg. As I kept eating, the truffle oil became more intense, and the fattiness started to get a bit overwhelming without washing it down with water. Great flavor overall, but I think this dish is best paired with an appetizer to help cut through the richness. One of my favorite things about this place, which my BF mentioned, was the noodle texture. I noticed it too as I ate--a good bite with a slick texture that was just starchy enough to cling to the broth. We had leftover noodles from the Tantan Tsukemen at the end of the meal and ended up using the Creamy Truffle broth as a dipping sauce. Honestly, no regrets. The cold noodles didn't work quite as well in this dish, but the broth was definitely a banger. This was also the first ramen broth I couldn't finish but desperately wanted to bring home. (Obviously, I did.) Their to-go containers are surprisingly sleek, too. It's a weird thing to compliment, but I almost wanted to keep the container as much as the broth. Special comment on the utensils here--the soup spoons are ridiculously cute! Would love to have a similar set at home. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was thoughtful. The music wasn't too loud, and it wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night. They do play a lot of popular Japanese songs, so if you're an international music enthusiast, you'll appreciate hearing "Mayonaka no Door" by Miki Matsubara.

This place was pretty packed when we showed up on a Sunday evening around 7 pm. We ended up sitting at the bar, which had call buttons for service, ordering, check, etc. Overall service was good but the call button for the check didn't seem to work. Pressed it like 3 times in 10 min and no one seemed to get an alert so we just flagged someone down. The inside is pretty neat, with an upstairs and downstairs (as well as a bar area). One waitress served everyone in the restaurant while I was there. She was speedy in taking and delivering orders. She seemed very nice! Food: ordered Tonkotsu Gachi and my mom ordered the yuzu. Food arrived very quickly, though we ordered no appetizers. The tonkotsu broth was rich and velvety in texture, but more like a mild umami in flavor. The chashu pork was pale, but melt in your mouth buttery and bursting with savory pork goodness! The marinated egg wasn't brought up to temperature with the broth -- a little cooler than room temperature, with a medium oozy yolk. It felt like the marinade penetrated all through to the yolk -- it was great! I welcomed the novel choice to use red onion over the usual scallions. It was a nice touch of color and brought in that bright, juicy onion flavor that I crave. Noodles were perfect texture. Not too hard or mushy. This bowl feels made to focus on the broth and flavor and not so much an instagram post. Delicious!! My only complaint was a very very very slight bitterness in the background. I couldn't pin where it was coming from. Maybe that's a risk of simmering bones for so long. I'll keep this short because I couldn't just eat my moms bowl... The Yuzu shio broth was clearer, with bright, citrusy, and savory body. The bamboo shoots were golden (grilled?) with a little snap to it. Reminds me of a king oyster mushroom. This is really a unique broth and I haven't had anything like it. You should definitely try it! Restaurant: clean, neat, every table literally has its place /orientation. Deep wood furniture, honeyed lighting, and dark window shades give the restaurant a cozy chic ambience despite visiting around noon. Good food, great service. Great prices. Large portions.

I had the Spicy Tonkatsu Beef Rib and it was a nice ramen to try. The portion size is generous with so much noodles and broth. The beef rib was so tender and fatty. The only thing I'd say is although the ramen broth was delicious, there is basically no toppings. You're eating noodles and the beef rib, oh and half of an egg. The staff there were kind. Very disappointing on this visit…read more Do NOT go here if you don't like to wait. The restaurant is very small, and unfortunately, they don't seem to manage their seating arrangements very well. Our party was 4 adults and 2 kids, ages 7 and 2. We weren't offered the option of splitting into two tables to accommodate us sooner, which we would have gladly done, especially with two young children. What made the wait even frustrating was watching a few parties of 4, along with parties of 3 and 2 who arrived after us, get seated before us. Our party could have been separated into two tables, but we weren't offered that option. When we asked about it, the waitress gave us an unpleasant look as we explained how long we had been waiting and said that we would have preferred the option to split our party rather than continue waiting. Her reaction made us feel uncomfortable for expressing a reasonable concern. We were also told they wanted to make their customers happy, but from our perspective, the seating process just didn't feel well organized. Service was also extremely slow. Between waiting for a table, waiting for our food, and dining, our total time there was about 2.5 HOURS. That's simply too long for a casual meal with two young kids. Customer service was nice during our first visit, but unfortunately, it seems to have diminished in a very short time. The food was okay, but not enough to make up for the overall experience. Cleanliness also needs attention. The restroom was not well kept and had a foul smell, which added to our disappointment. We were also charged an automatic 20% gratuity for our party of 4 adults and 2 children. I understand restaurants may have gratuity policies for certain party sizes, but considering the wait and level of service we experienced, it was disappointing. Our first visit was much better, which is why we returned. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to that first experience. Hopefully they improve their seating process, speed and consistency of service, and cleanliness.
