Update - it had been 2 months since I wrote my review and I hadn't heard anything back from the company so I had written them off. However, one day I had Michael, their Claims Supervisor, contact me. He apologized for the horrendous experience I had and wanted to find a way to make things right. I told him that at the time of my move, I was expecting up to a 50% discount based on the horrible experience and incompetent movers. At the time, Golden Bay was only able to give me a $50 discount off my total price (which was close to $1,000 mind you, so not cheap). During my call with Michael, I again mentioned that it would have been nice to get half off of my total but I wasn't really expecting them to do this. Michael said he would talk to the owners of the company and get back to me either later that day or the next business day at the latest. I thanked him for his time and hung up, not really expecting much outcome. However, true to his promise, Michael contacted me early the next business day. Not only was he able to get approval for the 50% off that I had asked for, he went the extra step and got the FULL amount of what I paid refunded. That was way more than I expected and I was very happy with this result. While I still have a lot of hesitation about working with Golden Bay Movers in the future, I'm glad they were able to make things right, which instills some of my trust back in them. read more

Crewed showed up with 2 movers instead of the 3 I hired. The change was allegedly because crew member had high temperature (covid times) but this was not communicated until they arrived which I found extremely unprofessional. In this circumstances, they should also plan to have backup crew given moves are very time sensitive (I had a 4 month old baby with us during the move) Crew was nice but not very experienced. They did not do a walk through to analyze items as its common, did not communicate start time, and did not protect at-risk walls and corners until I requested. Long story short, took 5 hours to load up (expected 3 max - all furniture was already disassembled and everything packed), 2:30 travel (I arrived in 45 min by car) and 2:15 to unload for a total of over 10 hours for a 2 bedroom move. During the move, they ran out of blankets and attempted to load delicate items without blankets. I called management throughout the day to intervene and no action was taken until many calls and threats to write a review about it. They promised an extra worker a few times during the day but he did not show up until 5pm. A manager also showed up and helped address the situation by bringing blankets and urging the crew to follow protocol. At the end of the day, crew was leaving and had left stair runner inside so I had to run and get them, which shows they did not inspect the final conditions. Manager offered a fixed price of 3 hours load and 2 unload at the 2 man crew price which was fair and showed they are willing to work with you to fix the issue. However, the offer also wasn't much cheap than I originally expected with an experienced crew, and I had to help them move the entire time. (the cost was $1,200 +tip which expected for 2bdr local move). Our move lasted almost 10 hours when it should have taken 5-6-max with an experienced crew and the original 3 person crew that was hired. I would not used them again, but the company does have experienced movers as I had used them before. I guess it just depends the crew you get. Ps: Vanessa called at the end of the day to follow up and said feedback was noted but no action was taken. PS2: his was my second move with them. The first one was spectacular and I had left them a 5 star review on Google. My advice to management is to review your crew and protocol to make sure they are being professional, trained, and adhering to industry best practices. read more

Before I booked them, I read a few old reviews and they sounded great. This was my first time getting movers cause my wife is pregnant and I just wanted this to be smooth and well-managed. Travelling from Oakland to Hayward, 1bd 2nd floor to a 2bedroom 1st floor. Called them about 2 weeks prior to schedule, they answered first call, everything seemed great. After I booked them, I started reading recent (post-COVID) reviews and they were all terrible, so I started to have my doubts but I wanted to give them a chance. Didn't listen to my gut. -I called the day before and confirmed arrival time of Wednesday 8-9am. -Come Wednesday, 8:45am, no truck. Called them for an update, "they should be there any minute." -At 20 minutes late, no crew, no update. I called 3 times back to back. Once answered and hung up, two other times got forwarded to voicemail. Left a voicemail requesting a call back and update. -At 30 minutes late, had wife call. No answer. After my 7th call, they answered, didn't know where the truck was. Put me on a 5 minute hold and then told me dispatch would call me for an update "shortly." I said okay, and confirmed what number to call if I don't hear from them in 15 minutes. -At 45 minutes late, waited the 15 minutes with no update, called back again. Took 3 calls to get a response. Finally got someone to tell me their truck broke down and they can possibly get me a crew and truck between 3pm and 6pm (3-man crew). At this point, I was very frustrated and lost trust in them. They offered to discount me $50, but figured packing and traveling in rush hour traffic would cost more than $50. Also, I didn't want to risk them failing again knowing that we were leaving town on Friday. -I called another company, Commander Moving (highly recommended by a friend) and got them to come in on clutch to move us tomorrow. So I called them back and cancelled and requested my $200 deposit back. They told me that I should see it in the next couple of days. I asked for an email confirmation, which I got shortly after but it starts "confirmation of cancellation upon my request." So honestly, after reading the other poor reviews and my experience with dealing with their office, I highly doubt I'll see that $200 back. Commander Moving didn't require a deposit when I booked them, and came out to about the same price. I can't speak to their actual movers, they may be great. But their office is an absolute s***show. Don't think it's that hard to update customers on situations. It shouldn't take customers over 20 calls to find out that their "truck broken down" and there is a 6-9hr delay to their move. My schedule was tight, my faith was low, and my trust was quickly lost once I realized they weren't capable of providing a simple update until they were already 45 minutes late. read more

This company has changed a lot since the last time we booked them. 1st time: about 4 years ago in which the 3 person team led by Fernando was absolutely amazing, careful, courteous, and efficient. 2nd time: Horrible. Seemed like an entirely different company. They showed up in an unmarked truck and no company shirt. Felt like this job was contracted out to a random group of guys. They used to have a Golden Bay logo on their truck and shirts. Also, they kept mentioning they had to hurry up and finish moving us, so they could go get a 2nd job because it was first come, first serve. - The 3rd young man wasn't treated very well by the 2 older ones. - They broke a dining table leg and taped it back on. We didn't notice until a few days later when it buckled, and I looked under to see a bunch of tape at the joint were the leg meets the table. - Didn't want to help pack the remaining dishes even though we booked service to help with the dishes. The foreman told us to just bring it in our car. I just stared at him for a few seconds, and he begrudgingly agreed to pack the dishes. He then misplaced them in the truck and never gave them back to us. - Dumped a bunch of our belongings into boxes without care. - We specifically asked them to use the cleaned main bathroom on the 1st floor of the home, but they still went around using whatever bathroom they pleased in almost all the other rooms and leaving toilet seats up. It would've taken them 30 seconds from wherever they were in the house to go the main bathroom right next to the front door. Will not be returning for another move. read more

Truly the worst experience I've ever had with movers. I had scheduled a 5 person crew and they showed up with 4 people. They were careless with our furniture, including throwing it over a railing and banging it down every single stair of a staircase. They packed live ant baits with kitchen items which caused ant poison to spill throughout the box. They dented a wine fridge, chipped a table, dented a sideboard, along with many other damaged goods. On top of that, they carelessly chipped/damaged every single stair of a 30-stair wooden staircase by banging dollies and furniture up and down it. I flagged these issues with them over a week ago and they still have yet to provide any form of resolution. Repairing the damage they have caused will cost thousands of dollars. I will never trust Golden Gate Relocation with my move again, and neither should you. read more

These guys were not very careful with our stuff. A lot of our stuff ended up getting scratched, a couple of things broken. They also smashed a hallway light, and tried to pretend they didn't even though I saw it happen. They just kept moving stuff and tracking glass everywhere. When we scheduled them on the phone, we were told that they would disassemble and reassemble larger stuff. They seemed reluctant to do so when they did the actual move, and did a pretty shoddy job of putting together some of the furniture, as it seems that they lost some of the little bits of hardware. read more

Unbelievable. The movers were supposed to arrive Friday, July 3 2-5pm. I received a call at 4:12pm that they're running behind and will arrive 6:30-7:30pm. Not great but I can deal (they offered a $50 discount for the inconvenience). So I waited with all my stuff, packing up my bedding, food and everything. 8pm comes and still no communication. I've left email, voicemail, Yelp message. 8:30pm I received a call finally, informing me that they won't be coming today (shocker) and that they'll have to reschedule me for Sunday or Monday. I said Sunday and before I could ask what is the arrival time the phone call ended with no one calling me back. I had to email them (since no one was picking up on the mainline) and ask for the arrival window. At first they gave me a Monday date and I had to follow up for a Sunday one. On Saturday, I decided that this is not the type of company I want to do business with and who knows if they'd show up on Sunday. So I emailed that I no longer want their service, so please cancel. Sunday at 8:20pm their movers called that they're on their way. 1) I cancelled so clearly internal communication is lacking 2) even if I didn't cancel the arrival window was supposed to be 2-5pm. Unfortunately needed to update this to reflect new information upon unpacking. Sadly little care was taken in actually packing the few boxes the crew were responsible for taking care of. Besides a couple missing screws, everything seemed to be flawless. Until I opened up the boxes and realized things were carelessly tossed into boxes even though extra bubble wrap was provided by me. Additionally, computer monitors which had original packaging provided were thrown into boxes with none of the protective material provided (instead material was nowhere to be found). One monitor had 3 vertical scratches across the front. Have filed claim and will update to reflect experience. This is my second time using Golden Bay Movers and I have nothing but good things to say. My first move was with them in 2018 moving from SF to Oakland. They did break my table but were fair and gave me a good discount on the total order. You can also pay in cash to get an extra discount. Two years later and here we are again. My bf and I were moving out of our 2 bedroom condo in Oakland to a home in Contra Costa County. The movers were insanely efficient and finished in record time (even assembling our more difficult furniture back together (we noticed too we had accumulated quite a bit of stuff - please be realistic with how much stuff you have when reserving). During a time like this too where we have to wear masks and everything, it was a very professional move overall. We really appreciated their hard work and making a hard task at hand a really easy one. We had a long month of contracting work and fixes at the house and the feeling of finally getting to move in and without much stress was amazing. Thank you all again! These were the random tips that I'll remember most this moving process: 1. Judge a moving company by their worst reviews (I value efficiency and nice to work with - you do have to spend an entire day with them) 2. So it's been a while after the move. Even though the situation that went down was pretty inconvenient, Golden Bay Movers went the extra mile to reach out and fully explain what sequence of events led to the cancellation of our scheduled move. Even though it was some VERY extraordinary circumstances that I couldn't believe the first time they were explained, they cleared everything up a few weeks later and were extremely apologetic. As stated in my first review, it cost me extra to move with a different company on a Sunday and on short notice. Chloe reached out to us to apologize for the experience and Golden Bay offered to cover the extra cost over what GBM had quoted, vs. what I payed with the other company. Typically I refuse an offer like that due to it usually being a bad company just trying to get a review changed with money because they want to keep on with shady practices. Speaking with Chloe, she seemed very authentic and sorry about the circumstances. I've already received a money order for the extra expense and will give them a second chance the next time I move. read more

This was our second time moving with Golden Bay. Vanessa has been very thorough and responsive in her communications leading up to the moves. She was able to help us confirm our date, even as it shifted a couple times. On moving day, Fernando and Jesus were awesome! They were personable, professional, and thorough. Upon arriving at our apartment, we did a quick walkthrough together and designated which items would not be moved. They were efficient and careful in packing up the items we weren't able to box up, disassembling our bed, wrapping our furniture to protect it, and expertly packing the moving truck (quite the game of Tetris!) After a quick lunch break, we headed to our new home. Fernando and Jesus accurately moved boxes to the appropriate rooms, helped position large furniture pieces where we wanted them, and even secured a bookshelf to a wall, so it would be safer for us. Moving can be stressful, but the move itself shouldn't be. It can be difficult to judge whether a business is trustworthy. Our move didn't have the easiest logistics - it was raining, we had narrow streets, and our old landlord was very particular about how things were done. They handled it all with aplomb. I was going to write a review eventually, but with three young kids, covid, and two full time jobs, even two months later we are still trying to get settled. I also did not want to write a review in the heat of the moment. We just found out our refrigerator freezer hasn't been working since the move, so this couldn't wait anymore. I found the service untrustworthy and unprofessional. The scope: Move just the large pieces of furniture from a two-story 4 bedroom 3 bath (~2400 square feet) to a two-story 3 bedroom 3 bath (~1600 square feet) a mile away. I was moving smaller things the whole day, so I was in and out of the home as they moved and was there a fair amount of time observing. They sent a large truck and a four man crew. This was originally going to be a 2-3 star review, but as time passed, we are finding more and more things wrong. The specifics in a nutshell: they put the fridge on it's side and rotated it multiple times - the freezer no longer works, they lost joint connector/cam lock fittings and screws for the crib, assembled said crib and master bedframe incorrectly (this was made worse, because they stripped a lot of the screws on the crib), broke a picture frame, dropped our washing machine on its side - it fell off the dolly onto asphault and they didn't even mention it, and broke a TV stand. If I recall correctly, they arrived either on the back end of the moving window or were just a little late. That wasn't too big of a deal. What was a huge issue was the lack of experience and care with which they acted. They felt incredibly inexperienced. The entire time I was there, it sounded like the crew that was disassembling furniture upstairs and was clearly dropping things constantly. Every 5 minutes it sounded like a large piece of wood was being dropped on another. A lot of the furniture we have has more dings, dents, and scratches now, than prior to the move. It's something I've come to expect from moves (I've moved almost 20 times in my life), but not when it was coming from a paid service. They didn't treat my stuff like their own, or even like a customers'. The fridge: I disconnected the washer, dryer, and fridge for them - which was as expected. When I was disconnecting the fridge, the team lead was worried that the water line was actually a gas line. Again, not a big deal, but it was an example of the lack of experience the team had. They saved the refrigerator for last and it was this huge ordeal. I confirmed in advance that they were not going to lay it on its side and 2 minutes later the first thing they did was put it on its side on the dolly. Thankfully the shelves were tempered glass, because I had to take them out AFTER they put it down and after a bunch fell in disarray inside the fridge. One of the plastic connections ended up broken. They didn't measure out the fridge and tried to take it out the backyard and through the side gate. It didn't fit, so they left the fridge lying down on its side. Later I came to check on them and they were jostling the side gate to see if they could get it out of the ground so they could fit the fridge through. It wasn't even my house and they didn't ASK if they could remove the gate. They looked incredibly sheepish and claimed that the gate - which could now be rocked back and forth, was like that when they got there. They ended up taking it through the sliding glass door, and through the front door (french door where they both open up). The entire ordeal with the fridge felt like it took all four of them an hour all on its own. When we arrived at the house, they essentially refused to bring it upstairs so I had them leave it in the garage. About a month ago, we discovered the frozen food inside was soft, so we tossed it all out. Not sure if it was just a temporary thing, we didn't look into it, until it happened again. We bought a freezer thermometer and it reads 22 degrees Farenheit when it should be at -4. The TV stand: While I was coming back into the home, I saw a few of the movers talking in the truck. One of them was point to an object and talking to the team lead who I overheard say "don't worry, I'll take care of it." He even saw me and gave me a wave. I didn't think much of it, and figured he would tell me later at a good stopping point if it was related to me. Turns out he wouldn't have told me if I didn't notice during the unload. I was telling them where to put the TV stand when I saw that two of the supports had sheared off (they were plastic tubes). It was holding an old heavy 40" LCD at the old home. It was clearly now incapable of holding anything, but the movers insisted that it was preexisting damage. The broken picture frame wasn't a big deal, but it was just another ding against their credibility and how they operated. Same with the washing machine - I saw them drop it, but they pretended nothing happened. Yelp has me almost at my character limit, but that's roughly the gist. read more

Best. $700. I. Have. Ever. Spent. The cost was $110 and hour + 50 minutes for their drive home, + $40 for gas, and I used about $22 in packing materials (I had prepped 90% of things before hand). The move took them about 5 hours. Moving a 1 bedroom apartment full of furniture is not fun. My friends all make too much money to be bribed with pizza and beer to move my sofa, queen bed, and all the other home-things that being a young working professional has afforded. Enter Golden Bay Movers. They will expertly and politely pack all your things in at whirlwind speed without scratching a thing. They really know what they are doing. I have epic amounts of respect for their professionalism. All the way from the quotation process to the end of my move, I could not have asked for a better first-time experience with a moving company. They are a small operation with only 3 trucks and have a lot of pride in what they do. I really think that the human element and dedication shined through and I will not be trying any other moving company. Ever. So planning ahead for my move to the East Bay, because some idiot just purchased a 385 sq ft "home" on Telegraph Hill for $785k and thus solidified my belief that mere mortals such as myself could no longer afford city life, I purchased my own piece of the American dream. I must have emailed a dozen movers, and Golden Bay was the one that got back to me promptly and professionally. I got a detailed email from GB outlining their prices, and since most of the movers were in the same price range, I decided to just go with them. Cue moving day. GB sent three of the hardest working Mexican (or similar) boys I've seen. They even showed up a few minutes early. What they did in the 6 hours moving me I would never accomplish in an entire pay period sitting at my desk. The guys earned their paycheck. Guaranteed. Everything went relatively smoothly. I didn't realize I had so much crap. I tried to pack most of my stuff inLowes boxes.bit they still brought plastic bins and wardrobes for the stuff I hadn't pack. At my brand new house, they offered to lay down a plastic film to cover the sparkling new carpet. This is where I saw some craziness. These guys stacked two or even three bins on their backs and carried them up the stairs! You just had to be there. I felt bad just sitting there watching them. But I probably would have done more harm than good if I tried to help. For their efforts I got them some pizza and a bunch of ice cold Gatorades. They def deserved it. I will preface this review by saying that I did not end up using Golden Bay for my move. I initially booked with them, but ended up cancelling my move the next day as I found another company that I felt more comfortable with. According to their cancelation policy, I would receive my ~$200 deposit within 3-5 business days. When 10 days had passed, I called to inquire where my deposit was. The person on the phone apologized and said the company would look into it immediately, work on the deposit, and call me back. A few days later, still no call and no refund. I called them again and only then did I get my refund back. This review serves as a warning to all of those of you who decide to do business with this company. read more
