I called in the afternoon on New Years Eve after taking the wrong keys on my way to the grocery store, and was told the locksmith would be there in 20 minutes. He made it in 15. He checked my id and had the door open in about 2 minutes for a very reasonable price. This is the the third time in my life I've used a locksmith, and my best experience -- reasonable cost, and quickly back in and on my way! read more

I wanted to get my house re-keyed. I had replaced a couple doors/security screens on my house over time which meant I had different keys for the front door, back door, basement door and the entry gate (TONS of friggin keys!). So I finally said enough's enough and made an appointment he came out the next day re-key all of the main doors (I wasn't ready to commit financially to getting EVERYthing done) but I was able to use the coupon and have the main doors re-keyed. He was quick, professional, a super hard worker and funny. I'm very happy with his work! read more

A few months ago I was dopey enough to lock myself out of my house. Well good job, dum dum! It's something I don't do often, but when I have in the past, It has always been a miserable experience. You call a locksmith, they take forever, and they charge you WAY more than they quoted you on the phone. Listen, they know they have you over a barrel and what else can you do? Miserable indeed. Well not this time, THIS time, after the usual frustration, anger, and despair, I hit Yelp and found this Golden Bay Locksmith character. I called him up and he quoted me a very fair price and said he'd be there in 20 minutes. So of course I figure he'll be there in an hour and there will be $50 - $100 in surprise charges. Not only was Tommy there in 15 minutes, but he charged me exactly what he quoted me! And he took credit card!! And he was a really nice guy!!! Seriously, this guy rocks. I would totally use him again and recommend him to anyone who needs any locksmith work done. He needs to start a locksmith rehab and school so he can teach all the other locksmiths how to run a proper and honest business. Thanks Tommy! read more

Awesome. Fairly priced, timely arrival and quick service. Really impressed! Had them replace the lock to my mailbox and the experience went smoothly. read more

This company SAVED THE DAY! After waiting over an hour for ANOTHER locksmith (after being told he was on his way, then being told they couldn't reach him) they arrived when they said they would (20 minutes) and actually called 10 minutes after to make sure I knew they were coming. Once there, he gave me a quote to unlock the car, then offered to make a key on the spot. Since I lost the key on the beach, I would have had to drive to San Francisco to get a duplicate from my friend whom I bought the car from. They saved me a lot of time and hassle, and I wish I had called them first! read more

Locked out of my apartment on a Friday night. Golden Bay was the only locksmith open, and I genuinely feel lucky that they were. Tommy was a complete professional. He called to follow up several times. When he arrived, he assessed the problem with my deadbolt instantly, and had the door open and the deadbolt repaired in about five minutes. The owner is obviously passionate about his business. Consequently, the customer service and professionalism are top notch. I'll refer him to all of my friends. read more

I can only emphasize what has already been said about Tommy/ Golden Bay Locksmith. He is a legitimately good businessman who IS NOT TYING TO CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY. PERIOD. This is the second time I have called Tommy to save my ass. The first time was about a year ago when I lost my car keys and had already accepted that my car was probably going to be towed based on the fact that other locksmiths seemed to want to avoid their job. NOT TOMMY. He immediately gave me a reasonable quote (affordable for a college student) and must have used magic fairy dust to get to the USF campus as fast as he did. He was professional, really helpful, and even pretty funny. I got a newly programmed key, a huge sense of relief, and my day was pretty much made in record time. Recently, I went on an adventure in Dolores Park that caused my keys to go into hiding- again - and I called Tommy immediately again. He was already cutting me a new key by the time I arrived to meet him (my key has a sensor with a specific VIN number that Tommy kept on record from the last time he programmed my key). An even bigger testament to his honesty, HE LOWERED THE PRICE from the original price, which I was absolutely prepared to pay, because he explained it was less work since he already had the necessary information. The whole thing only took about 20 mins and again he was friendly and easy to talk to while we waited for the sensor to sync with my car. I wouldn't use anyone except for Tommy because with Tommy you know you are dealing with a trustworthy person who is going to get the job done. read more

Super fast, very nice, and great prices....what more could you ask for in a locksmith? I have used this company twice. The first time was late at night when we had to break into an alarm box at our new house. It was only about 20 minutes after my call when the locksmith arrived. Needless to say, I was very relieved and knew right away that he was an honest and professional person. The second time I used Golden Bay Locksmith was to change all the locks in our new house. He came out about one hour after I called and finished six new locks in about 45 minutes. Overall, I have had a wonderful experience with this company! read more

I was in a hurry to leave the office and left both my house key and office key locked in my office. It was late when I had got home, and I had been having a lousy week. Roy came as promised within 20 minutes. He was super nice and chatted with me while working on getting my door open. We mostly talked about food, and when it came to pay he gave me a discount. I would highly recommend him! read more

Really great experience with Roy. I needed a USPS lock replaced on a condo mailbox. (You know the kind where several are in a stack.) He came prepared with the approved lock assembly, right on time and completed the job quickly. I'm a Real Estate Broker and have experienced less than stellar service from several other locksmiths. I'll definitely call Golden Bay again! read more

Called Tommy and he showed up within 45 minutes. He had to improvise and re-engineer a key and lock to our 1926-era interior door, but did it quickly and effectively. He also repaired the handles and lock to our back door in minutes. He is highly skilled, very mechanical, creative, effective and extremely fast. He's also very nice and professional. Highly recommended. read more

This review is for both the door and car opening services. My friends and I lost our key to my 2003 Infiniti while hiking in the Muir Woods. Our house keys were inside the car so we had basically no way of getting into either our house or car. Le sad. A buddy gave us a ride back to Berkeley. But then we still needed to find a way inside our place. So we called Golden Bay to get into our house, and a guy named Adi came pretty promptly and immediately got to work opening the door. Adi was so courteous, skilled, and affable that one of my buds asked if they also could open cars. We thought that was a ridiculous question, but Adi just nonchalantly said "yes" and let us call his manager to work out a fair price. His manager was really cool and gave us a solid deal. Then Adi drove me ALL THE WAY to Muir Woods (45 minutes away), and programmed a new key for my car, even fighting against horrible cell reception that made communicating with the central key chip server incredible laborious. He was so nice and kind the entire time, offering me water, letting me charge my phone, and chatting with me about this and that. It didn't feel like I was awkwardly waiting to get my car back -- it felt like I was working alongside a skilled friend to solve a wacky problem -- how to get into a locked car in a cell phone dead zone. By the way, including driving to the woods, Adi worked on getting into my car for *at least* 90 patient minutes. He never once complained or asked for a higher price. And he did all this until 1 AM. Adi, and Golden Bay, thank you so much for saving our weekend and week, as well as hundreds of dollars we would have spent if we went to the Infiniti dealership to get in our car. Everybody else -- USE THIS COMPANY -- both the manager to Adi are truly fantastic. read more

I called to ask about duplicating a key. I was kindly informed that Golden Bay Locksmith exclusively does lockouts, not duplications, but then (although I didn't even ask) the gentleman on the phone helpfully told me where I could go to get a key duplicated. In this kind of business in particular, it's really easy for someone to take advantage of you or to use access to your opened doors for unlawful means. This business is professional, helpful, and honest. If I ever get locked out, I will definitely take my business here. read more

WAY BETTER THAN TOYOTA DEALERSHIP! My purse was stolen with my only Prius key in it, and I needed a key reprogrammed. Toyota quoted me $250 each key, plus $250 for reprogramming, AND wanted me to have my car towed to them. THEN I find out that it didn't even include the metal key inside the electronic key, to open the door if my battery is dead. THAT would be an extra $100! $350 a key! Golden Bay to the rescue! They came to me for a small fee, and were out here within the hour. They quoted me a total of $375 for one key! Including the metal key! Yay! I had them do a second key as well, so this didn't happen again. They were fast, professional, and I paid with a credit card right out of the van. They had this awesome professional fancy equipment to use with my Prius. Thank you SO much Golden Bay! To Recap: Toyota: Two keys made for the Prius: Over $1000 including towing costs Golden Bay: $654 (including service fee to come to me) No contest. read more

Roy was quick, on time, and completed the work fast. Very pleasant to work with and was able to schedule the job much sooner than the other three locksmiths I called. He's now my number one go to guy for locks and security. Thanks Roy! read more

Just dont call them. I had an appointment for them to be at my house between 9 or 10. It's now 10:30 am. I called to see what was wrong they didn't answer for a while then this lady answered. Basically said I had the wrong number. Even though I called the number that was one here on Yelp. She said something to me which I couldn't hear clearly, so I said I'm sorry what was that and she started talking to me very rudely. I hung up on her because that was nice at all. I called again and it rang twice and then same lady picked up the phone. So I called another place to get my key done and now I have to wait another 2 hours to get my key. Yeah I realise it's my fault I lost my key but if they were doing their job right I would have my key already and they would've had over 140 dollars. Which they quoted me on Friday. Dissapointing cause the first man that I talked to was really nice. read more

I have used Tommy 3 times now.Yes, 3 times! Call me unlucky, call me absent minded or call me a dumb-ass.........I have managed to lock myself out 2 times and had my spare keys stolen in recent times. The only good thing out of any of that has been Tommy. He is extraordinarily helpful It is his business and he takes obvious pride in his work. When he says he will be there, he is. Keep his number on speed dial. He is great! read more

Amazing service! There were 2 things I was looking for when hunting for a locksmith: 1) price and 2) efficiency. Both of which Tommy fulfilled excellently! He arrived within 1 hour and was able to unlock my door within 10 minutes for half of the price my roommate paid (she paid 100 i paid 45). 5 stars! read more

Five years ago I called a *different* locksmith out to re-key three locks. It took them a while to schedule it and were late for their appointment. They did the work, left the locks operable but a little catawumpus. Charge was $195. Yesterday I called Golden Bay as they are in Emeryville (where the job is) and Tommy was there in 5-10 minutes. He not only rekeyed all the locks, but he straightened out the older installations so that they were tight and no longer askew. The best thing, though, was that Tommy asked about how I used the locks and the doors. At first I thought it a little odd, but then he suggested a rekeying strategy that was brilliant. I now have ONE key for myself that opens all 3 doors, and ONE key I can give to my neighbor who needs to have access to only the first 2 doors. This was a great idea and he got it all working in short order. On top of that, he charged less than the other company from 5 years ago. Based on my experience I can and will highly recommend them. p.s. I peeked inside his van and the interior and tools are immaculate - not a bad sign! read more

Great and fast service! Loved my experience and it wasn't that expensive either. I would recommend 100%

I was doing laundry on a Saturday night in my apt. Since I live on one of the top floors, It's actually quite a chore to go up and down. On one of my trips to run down to the laundry room, I locked myself out of the apartment. Luckily I had my phone on me - I immediately began searching up some locksmith services nearby ( while throwing out some curses here and there). I found Golden Bay on Yelp, called them up. Tommy arrived very shortly after I called - I got a good sense that he was a trustworthy guy who wasn't trying scam me. The process was quick and easy - I got in and found my credit card to pay him. I would recommend to anyone who needs quick and great service! read more

Tommy is THE MAN! I called him to fix a broken lock on the side door of my house in Berkeley - I thought I would need to replace the whole lock, deadbolt, etc., which I was hoping to avoid as I'll be re-doing all of the locks in a couple months anyway. Tommy came out on time, inspected the lock, and repaired it in about 5 minutes. Saved me a bunch of money on a new lock, and only charged me for a service call (and his rate is great!) This is how business should be done - on time, professional, honest, affordable - and I will now only be using Tommy for the rest of my related locksmithing work. Highly recommended! read more

Golden Bay Locksmith was fantastic. I was in Oakland dealing with a problem tenant in my rental condo, and Roy was professional and understanding when I had to delay my appointment to change the locks by a day. When we did meet for the lock change, he was quick, accommodating and double-checked all the keys he made for me before handing them over. He's available 24/7 and seems to have everything he needs to get the job done in the back of the vehicle. The pricing was more than fair and the service fantastic. read more

This company is THE best! I was looking for a locksmith to rekey the front door to my condo and called this company based on its stellar Yelp reviews. Roy promptly answered and informed that he could be onsite in an hour and a half - this was absolutely amazing considering that I would have been satisfied with an appointment anytime this week given the holidays. Roy was very prompt, kind, respectful and efficient! The price was also very reasonable for the service. Golden Bay Locksmith will definitely be my go-to company for all my locksmith needs. read more

The key to my Miata had twisted and NEARLY BROKE, so I googled quickly and Tommy's business popped up top. Called him, he said "be there in 20 minutes" and so he was. He took the key, which was in such bad shape I dont know if a "normal" key cutter could cut that, he cut me a new key on the spot, tested it out in my car, and BAM a new key. The price was entirely reasonable, on site service, he was really helpful and totally awesome. read more

One more rockstar review to add to the super impressive list that Tommy has accumulated here on Yelp. I lost my damn car key this morning on a walk in Berkeley. Went back and combed the park and nothing. No key anywhere. All stressed out because I can't get in to my car, especially with my wallet and and phone in there, and no idea where my spare is. My friend luckily was with me and Googled Car Key Replacements and we call the first person on the list. TWO hours and three phone calls later, they tell me their technician can't even replace the car key. WTF?! Frustrated, went on to Yelp and noticed all of the great reviews and thought to reach out. He came within a half an hour and took care of business in such a thoughtful, efficient and speedy manner. Seriously Tommy from Golden Bay Locksmith was my knight in shining armor. He created keys for me on the spot and by the end what would have been a really stressful and frustrating situation became relaxed and painless. No doubt Tommy knows his stuff and delivers EXCEPTIONAL service to boot. Best part, he's just a really cool guy that cares. read more

I was in a hurry to drive my friend to the airport at night and left my room key in the room... Thankfully my housemates were still up and opened the main door for me. I called golden bay locksmith in the morning. They showed up around 1 hour as scheduled. Roy serviced me friendly. He had a pack of tools, tried various methods. But unfortunately, my previous door lock was a fighter and guarded my room with its life. We had no choice but to drill the lock and replace it with another one, which cost me another 30. Roy was nice, he helped me install the lock and cleaned the debris of the old lock. The charge was fair but still expensive to a poor student like me. So the one star off is because of the extra 30 replacement fee. Other than that, I'm quite happy with the service. Also, it's good to know that my lock was a good one :P I would give them a 4.5/5! Anyways, I have now prepared a backup plan for my room lock, and hoping this first time lock out will also be the last time. read more

My wife and I locked ourselves out of our apartment early on a Sunday morning and weren't able to get a hold of our building manager. We were really worried about calling a locksmith because of the cost, and of the potential for damage to the door. But we didnt need to worry! Roy got to our address in 20 minutes, and had us in our apartment 5 minutes after that. He didnt damage the door at all, was reasonably priced. He actually intentionally charged us $5 less because it was an easy job. He also made sure to check our IDs against mail in the apartment. Roy was friendly and professional and totally saved our butts! Golden Bay will definitely be our first choice for a locksmith in the future! read more

Awesome service! Sadly I don't get to say that often so today I'm super excited to! 1 They said it would be 3 hours until they could get here to change our locks but he was early and done in an hour for 4 locks! 2 super professional and gave me a yelp discount 3 when I discovered a slight account mistake, cash was dropped at my home with in an hour. Anybody who has ever lost their keys knows how much of a pain in the ass it can be. Its exponentially worse when its raining outside, you have a fever of 102, your car is parked at the BART station and the only spare keys you have are 600 miles away in San Diego. After calling a few different 1-800 numbers that popped up on Google, I came across Tommy's Yelp reviews. I gave him a call, explained my situation and told him that I was considering leaving my car at the BART station and having my brother mail the keys to me. Tommy was nice, very upfront about the costs and was not looking to take advantage of a bad situation. I decided against leaving my car overnight. Tommy showed up, set off my alarm only once, and after 15 minutes I was good to go. Thanks for the spare Tommy! read more
