At first, Flam's was helpful in finding a mechanical double sided gate lock for me. Although they didn't have the lowest price, they said that they would provide great local customer service that I couldn't get from ordering online. I was foolish enough to believe them. When I encountered issues with the lock not working properly, Stanley first tried to blame the locksmith who installed it and then Cory told me to order new replacement parts from the manufacturer. I ended up having to pay for additional screws and a locksmith to come back to fix the lock. The only customer service I received was a lack of responsibility, a hesitancy to help communicate the issue with the manufacturer and a complete failure in providing me any updates. I explained how disappointed I was at every step and offered them numerous chances to resolve the issue or at the very least, follow up with me. Gotta be one of my all-time low experiences in terms of a "locksmith". I think you might agree that emergencies are not planned. That's pretty much the definition. Moving on them quickly is advisable, so if you find yourself locked out of your home on a Friday afternoon in 98 degree weather - and there's a locksmith that you've given plenty of business to in the past located literally about three minutes away - you would THINK that that Locksmith would do what they're supposed to do, and figure out a time that they can come by to let you back into your home... This appears not to be the way that this business thinks. Again, this is someone who is a loyal customer who has over the past 20 years brought plenty of business to this establishment. This had to be the first time I've ever done this - and at least it wasn't in the middle of the night. It just was on a mellow afternoon. I called, and a gentleman who sounded in his late 60s or early 70s answers, and when I share that in the past I've hired them for new locks, Gate change codes, garage door openers, and spare keys, he thanks me for my loyalty. I then explained that I just locked myself out and that it's a standard lock - and that they may recall I live three minutes away. His response? "Boy did you pick the wrong day...!" Now obviously I did not "pick" anything. Life happens - that's what a locksmith is for - people don't generally schedule getting locked out of their homes. The comment was absurd- especially as if you put yourself in the customers shoes, they're a bit panicked and desperate to figure out a solution... Not hoping to hear off putting jokes about "the timing". So I ask what the ETA is - and AGAIN he says twice in a row "boy did you pick the wrong day- oh BOY did you pick the wrong day !" As he's now said this 3 times and we've gotten no further in the conversation - and I'm obviously anxious to get back in and out of the summer heat, I ask what time he'll be able to send someone by - that I can take care of some work and go back to the studio and meet them when it's convenient. He puts me on hold for five minutes - literally 5 MINUTES - at which point another call is coming in so I hop off to answer the other call. I call him right back - and again he states "boy oh boy, miss, did you pick the wrong day!" At this point I realize this call is completely useless- not to mention unprofessional, not compassionate to the person who's locked out of their home - he's in a nice cool air-conditioned store ... doing nothing helpful but stating an absurd statement. REPEATEDLY. So for a last hope: I ask if he's going to be able to accommodate, and he says "Well... no, it's not looking good - BOY did you pick..." I'd had enough. I interrupted, and said I would take my business elsewhere. There's literally 20 other locksmiths in Sherman Oaks - and as you can see from another review - one did make it out within half an hour AND charged 1/3 LESS than FLAMMS does. I have been looking for a place to copy my office buildings key for a good week now, and have been turned down at almost every place. I was getting pretty desperate and finally came across Flams. It was exactly 9 AM right when I called and someone picked up right away and told me to head on over and they would try to help. I arrived, hopeful, and not only did they have the key, but they couldn't have been nicer during the entire transaction. I didn't get the name of the man who was helping me, but he was so sweet and kind and even though they only had one key left for the copy, they promised they would order more and call me when it came in so I can get a second duplicate. When I was checking out and amazingly because their services are so well priced, I didn't meet the minimum for a credit card and I did not have any cash on me. I began to get really stressed that I would be unable to leave with a key copy that I so desperately needed. However, they assured me it would be OK to return later, and give them the cash which had my jaw on the floor. I was so grateful. They gave me a receipt of the total and I will be back later to drop off the cash. I cannot recommend this place enough for all of your key and security needs. The door key for my 93' YJ broke in half. I called Flams and Stanley told me to come on over w the Jeep and broken key. Once there, he examined the broken key. He explained to me that though he could make an adequate copy from my broken key, there were three other Locksmiths who specialized in automobile keys and were better suited for making the key. For the record, I had a situation of lost key for one of those circular locks that you need to jiggle around to make the tumbler open. Mr Flam figured it out first shot. He said it was lucky. But he hit the nail on the head with the first tool that he picked up and then he made me three keys. That fit perfectly when we tried them in? Flam's is the real deal -- a trustworthy, honest, fair locksmith shop staffed by a talented, polite, dedicated staff. Unlike so many other places, they are actually legitimate locksmiths and hold the appropriate police permit. They won't copy a DO NOT DUPLICATE key without proper authorization, and while it may be frustrating to have to go through the process of obtaining a letter from your landlord, etc., that forthright unwavering attitude is a testament to their ethical operation of the business. Will they copy run-of-the-mill keys inexpensively? Yes, they will. But unlike the hardware store, in many cases they'll also offer to read and punch the key out instead for a little more. I can not speak highly enough of this business. These workers breathe, dream, and live locks and keys of all kinds. I've had strike plates readjusted with a door settling due to new construction, locks replaced, and mortise locks readjusted so that they lock and unlock smoothly and so that the door closes more flush with the exterior wall. They are very busy, so you need to be flexible with your time. But they always get back to you. They are very courteous and professional. Usually I go to Home Depot to get my keys cut for cheap ($1.50 per key) and they have an extremely easy return policy for keys that don't work. Every once in awhile you get a key that no one can cut because the lock is old and obscure or it's just a tough key to match. Because of that, I went to Flam's. As you would expect from a locksmith, they had the right slugs so it was one stop shopping. It took the guy half an hour to cut the keys, which is a little longer than I'm used too. The convenience alone was good. As for the key quality? It could be better. One of the keys they cut works, but it takes two whole minutes of fiddling to make it work. A version of that same key I had cut at Home Depot worked perfectly. Also, it was a bit pricey. I had 2 copies of 5 keys made, plus I bought those plastic color coded rings that wrap around the key head to help you identify which is which (which by the way, were too big to fit the keys correctly, but it was shrink wrapped to the pack so I couldn't return it after tearing the package open). The price? $45. At Home Depot it would have cost me $20. Plus I forgot that the keys that were hard to match I got cut before at a machine next to the gum ball machines at Frys Electronics in Burbank. I also had a copy cut at an Ace Hardware for $2 each. I could have saved a lot if I'd remembered that, (yes, I go through a lot of keys), but I see it as an investment, since I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment and it cost $100 from a different locksmith to get me in. Flam's also has a policy that they won't duplicate keys that have "Do Not Duplicate" printed on the original unless they have a signed authorization, so know that before you come in. UPDATE: one of the Flam fans, Ben K. who I suspect might be an employee, messaged me to chastise me on a review I wrote years ago, which then brought me back to my review and Vikki's response. So let me respond to her: 1) I was not in charge of what locks were on my apartment door. As a renter, all I could do is find solutions to problems. You couldn't help me with the dupe problem, so I moved on and a machine at Home Depot could. Is it scary? That didn't scare me as much as the idea that I would have to shell out another $100+ to have a locksmith help me if I locked myself out again. 2) You're absolutely correct in your argument that this makes you a company with integrity and I applaud you for your integrity. However, your integrity didn't fix my problems. I found a way around it and shared with Yelpland that if they had the same problem, then they have alternatives. That isn't to undermine you, but to help fellow customers who are also looking for solutions to immediate problems. 3) The Home Depot keys never gave me problems. Since then, I've moved a couple of times, so I imagine the landlords changed the locks. And your point about me saying I was overcharged? My name is pretty unique and as I pointed out to you in a direct message, it would be easy to pull up the receipt in the date I gave you for when I used your service. You never responded to that point, so I think it's safe to assume you checked it out, saw I was correct, and didn't respond because you didn't want to either eat crow or pay to make it right. That's fine, but it does make me question your integrity in that regard. The result of being overcharged is that I haven't been back. I'm glad other people are happy with your service, but you can't blame me for not wanting to pay through the nose for something that should be reasonably priced. I wish you and your business well and I don't think you care whether you have my business or not, and that's perfectly fine. Oh and if anyone needs info on a place that will make fast, cheap dupes of keys marked do not duplicate, let me know. I got a place in Hollywood that can help you with that. read more

I called for a price on a specific lock. Corey gave me a price of $228 which was low compared to another quote so I made an appointment to have it installed. Tom showed up on time, was very pleasant and when he was done, presented me with a bill for $435.06. I was stunned. He said the $228 was just the price of the lock, but there was $79.50 for the service call, $42.00 for labor, $14.00 for an additional part he needed to install the lock (?!?), etc. I was furious so I called Corey and he said, "I usually tell people the total price." End of conversation. I expressed my concern to Tom and explained that I had a quote (total price) for a Multilock and he said they were terrible locks made by Israelis and he had seen one picked with a popsicle stick. Really? A deadbolt picked with a popsicle stick? I suppose their work is good but I resent the way they now conduct business. Recommend anyone ask for the COMPLETE OUT-THE-DOOR PRICE. read more

We need some locks worked on and decided to call Flam's. We have used them over the years and have found them reliable, dependable, honest, and reasonably priced. This time was no exception. We made the appointment and were given a time fram and the name of the person we could expect. Tom showed up at the time stated, exactly at the beginning of the time window. He was very courteous, nice, and knowledgeable. He took the time explain how to prevent the problems from recurring in the future with options as to cost and where to find what we would need. Flam's changed out all the locks on my house when I bought it some 20 years ago, keying everything alike. All good. One latch recently stopped working easily. I took the entire lockset off the door and met with Stanley, who diagnosed the problem, sold me simply the deadlatch (instead of the whole mechanism, which he assured me I didn't need,) serviced the latchset, and was both pleasant and informative along the way. Vickie Flam does not return phone calls and only responds via Yelp after she reads reviews. I had this experience with her in 2020 and again currently. In 2020, when she didn't return a phone call, I sent her a letter. After she ignored the letter, I wrote a negative review to report that her employee, Stanley, who works in the store, pulled down his mask when he had to cough a phlegm-filled cough. This was during the height of the Covid pandemic and was disgusting and dangerous. On 10/4/22, when I was in the store, employee, Stanley, spent time giving me much information as to how to install a door knob. When he started to write up the sale, he remembered my name from over two years ago. He told me that I gave him a very negative review and he would not help me. He walked away and had another employee, Cory, write up the sale. I asked Cory to leave a message for Vickie to call me. He sent her a message while I was there. She never called me. I guess she doesn't mind that Stanley has refused to give me future service. Since Stanley is the only employee who works behind the counter, he, in essence, has told me that I may not do business at Flam's anymore. Apparently, Vickie Flam doesn't care if she loses business from a long-standing customer. I can only guess that Vickie never took the time to explain to Stanley how his actions in 2020 endangered customers because it appears that he still doesn't understand. Stanley must not have considered that his current inappropriate behavior would also be reported to Vickie Flam and reported on Yelp. I am guessing that Stanley knows he can refuse service when he doesn't like a customer because Vickie supports him. read more

I am a property manager and I frequently need to get keys made. Having been to Flam's a few times I can tell you that sure, they know their stuff. But that's not saying much. I mean, what do you really need to know to operate a machine that duplicates keys or change a lock.? Any trained monkey would be able to do it. With that said, I don't feel that the price is justified when coming to Flam's. It is pretty expensive to get copies of keys made here. Not only that, they have some funky hours. What it neglects to say on this page is that they are closed from noon to 1pm during the week for lunch. The whole shop shuts down and everything grinds to a halt. Instead of staggering employee lunch's so they can remain open for that hour, they'd rather close up shop. Oh, and they close by noon on Saturday. I guess business must be great for them to have random hours. Not really a big deal because there is a friendly and more reasonably priced locksmith about a block away. Silver's Locksmith is about half price and does just as good work. Might not be a full service shop with all the (overpriced) doorknobs for sale like at Flam's, but if you need some keys made quick then save Silver's is the spot. For nine months, I've been trying to get a copy of my deadbolt key made, and no one could do it. Everyplace I went to made something that didn't fit in the lock. Jack discovered that (because my lock is apparently Korean) the blank that would work wasn't the same brand as the lock. He made a copy for free, and told me to go home to test it. It worked! I immediately went back and had him make multiple copies of all my keys. While you're there, he will tell you his theories on schools today and many other things, at great length. It doesn't matter whether you agree with him or not. I've gone to a LOT of key makers in this town, but Flam's the only master locksmith in the area. His prices are great, too! read more
