I finally made my way to gold rush chicken. It seems everyone in bayview talks about it so it was time. First I want to say that when you walk in this place is spotless and had the cleanest fryers I'd ever seen. They don't have mobile ordering which is fine because by the time we placed the call it was ready in 20 minutes. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because the sides are a little less than desired but the chicken is great. The breading on the fried chicken was so crispy and the meat was juicy. Overall I'd come back to try their fish.

Gold Rush is a good example of don't judge a book by its cover. From the outside, it doesn't look the most appealing, but they exceeded all expectations. Placed an order late on a Saturday night, the person who answered was friendly and gave a perfect time estimate. I got the 4 piece bbq chicken dinner and it was a great deal for the price. It was a drumstick, full wing, thigh, and breast smothered in loads of bbq sauce. The sauce was a little sweet for my preferences, but overall the chicken was really great. The dinner comes with fries, coleslaw and a roll. Unfortunately, the sides were just okay. The fries were a little over cooked, coleslaw needed more flavor. The roll was a Hawaiian roll, so can't go wrong there. The issue with the sides could have been that we ordered 45 minutes before close, but who knows. I would absolutely come back for the chicken. Inside looked clean and I appreciated that the staff who needed it were wearing beard nets. Obviously they care about food safety and put out a quality product.

TomKen's gives typical Wisco neighborhood bar vibes, with lots of local memorabilia on the walls and several TVs with sports on. TomKen's has classic sports bar vibes. They were busy when I visited on a Saturday afternoon. It took a little while to get my order in. But the people were nice and there was a Brewers game on TV and I didn't mind hanging out for awhile. I got the famous friendly chicken dinner. This was a 4-piece half chicken dinner with coleslaw, fries and Italian bread. It was a lot of food especially for the price. The chicken was juicy and the batter was nicely salty. The fries were the crinkle variety--nothing special on their own but a nice potato-ey complement to the chicken. The cole slaw was solid--a little sweet and not too mayonnaise heavy. One should not eat fried chicken every day of course, but I would definitely come back for a treat.

We both got THE BOX which came with bread, slaw, the tenders, canes sauce, and crinkle fries, and a soda. $11.59. Total of just over $24. It was busy. I expected piping hot food and lots of turn over and cooking to order basically. Nothing should have been just sitting. Our chicken wasn't really hot and was soggy not crispy. Odd. The sauce definitely was needed to boost the flavor profile- because the chicken itself didn't really have a flavorful breading - and it was soft. Odd. My husband had two sauces - I got one. Odd. The fries weren't bad- but not terrific. The toast was warm and nice. The slaw cup- mine was going brown and my hubbies was beautifully fresh. Odd. We just self served ourselves from the coke machine area. They did have sweetened and unsweetened tea there. The lemonade was behind the counter. There were a lot of people in the drive thru and inside where we ate. It got to where there was no seating and people stood just looking at you hoping you were finishing. The bathroom was in constant use. Crazy. Families and teams and couples were there etc- so it was family friendly. The service was full of smiles and thank yous. At the end I found a black hair in the bottom of my styrofoam food tray. I know it happens. I didn't complain. Not sure if we will frequent them. If there were half stars- it would be a 3 1/2! May your visit be better and wow you!!

Ordered easily on a large tablet screen off to the left, they were out of a few items since it was late night (understandable). Ordered an OG chicken sandwich with fries, an OG chicken taco and an OG chicken slider. We are pansies when it comes to spice, so were looking forward to some crispy chicken, but purposefully didn't order the spicy versions. We then proceeded to wait, and wait......and wait. I'm a pretty reasonable person for wait times, but it was us and one other couple, and it took 47 minutes from our order confirmation that was emailed to us from when we were handed our food. Regardless, we were excited to dive in! Disappointed that they forgot the chicken taco, asked about it, and he said they were out, so asked if it could be replaced with another chicken slider and fries, which he said yes, but another 5-8 min wait (fine). The bun on the chicken sandwich was a delightful brioche, and the chicken was crispy, but my gosh it was SO SPICY. Our friends ordered the spicy chicken on purpose, and even they were dying. The chicken slider was also made very spicy, but there Hawaiian King roll it was served on was really good. Our 'replacement taco' slider was now ready, only to see it was just a tender, and it didn't include fries. Waited 5 more minutes, and received literally 6 fries in a box. Total wait time of over one hour. Just overall disppointed that our order wasn't correct for multiple reasons, replacements did not quite make up for it, and the wait time time was unreasonable for what we ordered and the amount of customers. 2 stars for the good bread and everything was served fresh and (temperature) hot! Hopefully Secret Hot Chicken can figure out their timing, whether it's cooking or staff related. When you arrive, there is a bar with a seating area. There is also another seating area with a separate bar, which is where we sat. What I noticed first is that there are TVs set up throughout the restaurant playing Moonstruck, the 1987 movie with Cher and Nicolas Cage. It runs continuously, and I think without sound. I didn't have a direct line of sight, but I did notice it a few times throughout the evening. It's a quirky thing, and I like it. The inside is dimly lit, but bright enough to read menus and make out all the essentials. The lighting on the bars is a rich red, and it really sets off those areas. The walls are adorned with photos of iconic Italian female movie stars like Sophia Loren. I liked the classic vibe. The place was very loud. We were seated right away and settled in with waters, drinks, and menus. Our server did a nice job walking us through the menu details. It's mostly specialty pizzas, with a few appetizers, salads, and a couple of entrees. For drinks, there were a couple of Santino Sangrias, which were unique in that they included gin, a nice touch. There was also a Paper Plane Martini, which was very good too. I mentioned before that it was loud, and it was especially loud with a large group behind us. It got much better when they cleared out. I noticed that they have sound absorbing materials on some of the walls, which probably helps, just not enough. For dinner, we started off with a couple of Caesar salads. They were a good portion and easily shared by two. The dressing was fresh and the right amount. It was a great start to the meal. I would have liked to try the calamari, but nobody else was interested, maybe next time. There were three pizzas at the table, Margherita, Paisan, and a make your own with cheese, sausage, mushroom, and onion. I decided to be different and tried the Gigante Meatball Plate. The pizzas are Neapolitan, with bubbly, charred edges. All of them had excellent presentation and flavor. Neapolitans are not known for their sturdy centers, so you have to hold on tight to keep everything from sliding off. As expected, the meatball was very large. It's served with penne pasta, which was okay, though I would have preferred spaghetti. The sauce and cheese had good flavor. A solid entree, though not amazing. We were celebrating a birthday, so we saved room for a few shared desserts. We tried the flourless cake, tiramisu, and the chocolate hazelnut gelato. They were all good choices, satisfying, but again, not amazing. Lots to like about this place. Nice atmosphere, great service (thanks Tommy), and an excellent selection of pizzas. Would come back again, and this time order one of the specialty pizzas (Da Vinci).
