Wall art in Gohan

We make the drive up to Gohan for lunch every month or so. It's sublime and super fresh! It's owner-operated by a lovely young Asian artist couple. The attractive interior has Japanese paintings throughout, created by the owner's We each order the Sashimi and Nigiri Bento Box ($23). It's more food than I can comfortably eat, yet somehow I succeed. It comes with delicious miso soup, rice, crisp tempura vegetables with hot dipping sauce, 4 each of assorted sashimi and nigiri. Friendly, prompt service. It's the best sushi in Marin or Sonoma counties.

Salmon Skin hand roll

The Sashimi was exceptionally fresh. The salmon belly was like butter. Very happy with the food quality. The salmon skin handroll was almost too beautiful to eat. Also highly recommend the Chicken Karaage. The batter was light and the portion size was generous. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was delicious. Disappointed they were all out of Ikura, my favorite. Our only complaint was Service was a bit slow and uneven. The restaurant was only half full but there were constant take out orders that distracted our server and kept him scampering between the kitchen and the door, so we were left waiting for service a few times. The server was doing his best hustle though. There was a second server who only served two tables. They should add a server or have a dedicated server to handle the take out.

So glad to find this great Japanese restaurant. We got 5 rolls and a sashimi appetizer. Each roll has its own unique flavor profile and all taste great! Sashimi appetizer is fresh. Price is reasonable. Definitely enjoy this place!

Restaurant

Well two times now tried to go for lunch but were turned away. First time my wife and daughter went for lunch and were told they were not taking anymore customers so they left. Now the three of us met there about 1:30. So 2 people enter the restaurant we went next door to do some banking. As we walked in we noticed that the people were still waiting to be seated and figured a little busy must be good food as we looked around you see at least 5 empty tables that had not been bused sitting there with dirty dishes and food as you look you see only one lady serving the whole restaurant after about 5 minutes she came up to say they are not taking anymore customers now this is at 1:30 with a big sign saying now open for lunch. The thing is are daughter is disabled and it takes some doing to get unloaded and in the restaurant then to be told to go away. I think they need to figure it out and hire more people even if you get seats the service is god awful slow and Luke warm if your lucky. So if you want to take a chance and get seats and look at someone's left over food and dishes sitting next to you good luck this was our last attempt

Best place around. Friendly service. Amazing food and is clean. Nice options. Sweet bar counter area to watch the masters at work.

I enjoyed both of my experiences here. The place was very clean, nice and quiet, service was fast, food was enjoyable. I'll be back again!

Stumbled on this place as we were in the area. Good service, quick turnaround on food, and the food was good. It was pretty blend ambiance which is the main drawback for me. We ordered Rolling Stone Roll, Ring of Fire, Seaweed Salad, The Last samurai and Hana Sake. All tasted good and nice portions. I would come back to this place again as I would like to try more rolls to see what else they got going for them.

Was craving sushi and wanted something new so tried Gohan alone for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. So glad I did LOVED my meal - I love sushi and have it not infrequently and I had a roll that was a surprise - Summer Haze that was a white fish (cooked) with fried leeks and miso sauce (photo below) it was sushi comfort food. Loved the cucumber crab salad and the other roll. Had enough left over to have it for dinner too and I'm already thinking about when I can return (I was there yesterday!).

This is my spot in Sonoma. Service is great. Food is excellent. Can't say enough about this place. Don't let the street mall vibe scare you. For my fifth time here I snatched up the special: 4-towers roll (pictured). I couldn't eat it all and it was primo.

Always fresh fish to meet your expectation! Sushi Rice is always perfectly cooked!! ( which is important to me!) Services have never fail us. Chef Jun has the greatest respect for his job. The way he slices Sashimi and other fresh food are not like any other chef I have seen in America. I would call him Sushi Artist!! When you visit this restaurant next time , pay attention to the presentation on the color and pattern of the Sashimi from his knife work. The cutting direction that chef slices into the fish meat is definitely affecting the flavor of the meat because where the meat muscle was located. Chef Jun also has great "Evaluation skills" to pick the perfect part from the fish to serve his customers. We usually not paying attention to those little details when hunger hits. Once you order his sushi plate, you will be "amazed"!!

Do they have any vegetarian rolls?

Do they serve fresh crab or imitation? Typically when the phrase "crab salad" is used on the menu, it is referring to an imitation mixture, although each establishment is different...any info would be appreciated!

It's half real, half imitation

Seriously, you might think pie is pie, but no, there's pie, and then there's pie from Petaluma Pie Company. Friendly employee and clean area outside the shop is well. So that's good. My only complaint is the eco-friendly fork they provide is absolutely awful. Not sure if it's a Petaluma requirement but real plastic forks would be much appreciated. Regardless, this place is a must-try!

I Spy With My Little Pie…read more This farm-to-table, locally-owned pie shop has been serving up both sweet and savory pie creations in Downtown Petaluma since 2010. They recently underwent an ownership change in 2024 from the OGs, but fortunately, instead of selling to a corporation, they sold it to an employee and his mother to help ensure the original ethos and quality remain intact. The Good: * Their pies are made with locally-sourced and organic ingredients bought from the local farmers market--as well as some fruit that they grow themselves! * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * As mentioned above, they have both sweet and savory pies. We only tried the sweet *oink oink* * Friendly service * Love that they have both full sized pies and smaller ones, so you don't have to commit to a big ol' pie. * We tried their Elvis (PB, banana, and chocolate) and their Black & Blue Crumble and they were both fabulous! I leaned a bit more to the B&B, as I absolutely adored that granola crumble on top, but the Elvis was no slouch either. The Meh: * Interior is small and very cramped. Definitely a grab-and-go type operation. The Ugly: * Parking in DT Petaluma can be a hassle, as it's street parking only, but at least it's free. Conclusion: Fantastic spot to scratch that 3.14 itch--and I'm always itchy!

They have specialty shelf stable chocolate and snacks and a display full of beautiful desserts! ** pistachio cream puff (4.5/5): unlike the more traditional choux shell, this one was laminated like croissant dough-- fun! The cream was also thick enough to not leak everywhere and didn't taste artificial. Really enjoy this one! ** strawberry and cream chiffon cake slice (3.5/5): didn't really feel like a chiffon cake or maybe it was on the drier side. It worked well with the mascarpone frosting though, which was smooth and a little too rich for me by itself. There wasn't too much strawberry besides the sweet jam layer in the middle. ** Brutta mi buoni (4/5): translated to "ugly but delicious," this craggly meringue actually caught my eye and curiosity for its looks. I'm usually not a fan of meringues, but this one was loaded with nuts and was tasty. Kind of tastes like a refined version of those Lucky Charms cereal marshallows in a good way! Happy with my little haul at Stellina Pronto! They were friendly and had a few window seats + outdoor seating. I'll probably stop by next time I'm in the area to try some new items. Definitely check them out if you're nearby!

Dole Whip is a well-known dessert, but in case you've been living under a rock just know it comes from a place known for Aloha and good vibes as well as from The Happiest Place on Earth. With origins like this how can you resist? For some, having a Dole Whip brings back good times, but for everyone, it is a refreshing and delicious way to cool off. Trader Jim's brings this treat to the Bay Area in what might be the cutest way possible - in a customized mobile trailer! Just take a look at photos and you'll know what I mean. This review is mainly for their catering service, which we had booked for our wedding earlier this summer. While there were a lot of things to be indecisive about in the early stages of wedding planning, this was definitely an easy decision for us and we booked early and right away. Like I said, how can you resist the idea of this at an outdoor summer wedding? It's even cool with the vegan crowd! We worked with Lauren for the booking and details and it was a fantastic experience. She was easy to work with and the communication along the way was good and clear. They were very flexible with our timing and schedule needs, which is an extremely valuable thing when it comes the the logistical nightmare that weddings can become. So come the big day, everything went smoothly in terms of them arriving on time and setting up. It looked amazing, tasted heavenly, and they handled the swarm of eager wedding guests with fast but friendly service! We could not have asked for a better finish to our special evening!

One of the best foodie destinations north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Superb coffee shops and bakeries, some award-winning. So, back in 1999 I took a wrong turn off the freeway and discovered Petaluma and the first place I went was the "Tea Room" and it's still pretty much as awesome as it was then. A real nice vibe, nicely decorated with some incredible pastries to include the orange cranberry scone as I recall, sold out today. My breakfast today was quite good with the walnut toast, and a huge portion of very large potatoes that could've been cut into smaller pieces and maybe I only needed one third of the portion. Dem tatters were 'nuff for four people. Great atmosphere, nice friendly staff, and a very pleasant ambience. There's mirrored signage that says TEA mounted high on the wall across from one another so as to appear as if it were a reflection. I personally can also see the word EAT in there every time I glance at it. I was told years ago that it came from an old Texaco gas station sign. It makes sense, check it out. On Western Avenue. We were in the Bay Area, and dessert is always an option! After a quick yelp search, I discovered doughpamine. What I did not know, is that they don't have a storefront! And the address listed on YELP doesn't even go to the kitchen. It's kind of weird. The address actually corresponds with an ethnic market, which by the way, I did some shopping and and found some really cool things, but I digress. I immediately was in search of what is supposed to be fabulous Cookies. After a couple of stops at some of the local grocery stores, I struck Gold, and was able to purchase three different flavors!! I love the fact that it's frozen premade cookie dough. That means that you can bake as many or as few as you would like. I will say, the flavors are unique, and the price point is high. But you definitely get what you pay for. Each bag runs about $17 and there's six large pre-shaped cookie rounds in each bag. Rhapsody Road is my favorite! I just wish that the cookies had more marshmallow bits. I will say with all the flavors that I find almond to be a little bit off pudding and while I like unique flavors, well, it works with the Road to some extent, I really would like to see the almond removed. Miso peanut butter: I was super excited about this because I absolutely love peanut butter, and I thought the miso would add a very unique taste profile. This is my least favorite out of three packages that I purchased, and again it has almond in it and some other flavors that frankly just don't work. I wanted more of a peanut butter flavor And for some reason the miso and peanut butter just did not blend the way that I needed it for it too. I would take a pass on this next time. Blueberry corn: OK this was the Darkhorse for me, and I really did not think that I was going to like this, but in fact, I loved it! It's like a combination of a really good cornmeal muffin with blueberries in it but in cookie form. I absolutely would've loved more blueberries but the flavor combo is absolutely delicious. Why am I raving about frozen cookie dough?! I really wish that Jessica Nolan, the owner and creator had a storefront. Why? Because who doesn't want a freshly made warm cookie?! Right? But she did the next best thing and really, sometimes it's a late night craving and now it can be done at home. Simple and easy to follow baking instructions, and one is really filling, but you'll definitely want a second one! The baked cookies were definitely bigger than what I expected, and it made it all worth it! Jessica is a fine, dining pastry chef by trade, a Michelin restaurant, inspector, and a Food Network champion! She knows what she's doing. What's great about this is that you don't need to live in the Bay Area to grab these! Jessica has a website and ships everywhere. I've already placed an order. I love the fact that the prices are the same online as they are in the grocery store. This has that unique Yum factor that we all look for in that extraordinary cookie.
