Went to Tracy, CA to visit some friends and they told me about this new buffet in town, so we decided to check it out during lunch. It's located in a repurposed Home Town Buffet in a Shopping Mall. Easy access as the entrance to the restaurant is outside the mall, facing the parking lot. Convenient. The food was good by Chinese buffet standards and they serve the usual items you'd find at any other one. Sushi Bar, Fried Chicken, Steamed Fish, Seafood Dishes, Noodle Dishes and Stirfry Dishes. The quality was amazing, as you would expect at any new buffet restaurant just starting out, trying to make an impression on the public. Everything was on point, especially the cold asian spiced crawfish. Those were my favorite. They also have a Hibachi Grill, but I didn't get anything from there that day. Service was okay. They are quick to remove dirty plates from the table. They have Drink Stations, as well as Utensil Station, so what kind of service could they offer at a buffet??? Give them a try. The deserts were 1000% days old especially whatever the pink whipped cream thing is they serve the top was like rubberized the only good thing i had was the baked mussels. Came here for dinner free a full fun day at great wolf waterpark in Manteca. Food was ok and lots of different options for drinks. Price was decent for a now days which could have been a lot higher elsewhere. Loved they come & pick up our plates soon after we are done with one. Dessert bar and ice cream could be a little better by adding a little more Other desserts. I love the bar noodles where you can choose and they cook for you. I have to say I had low expectation coming here but I was certainly impressed! This was probably one of the very few cleanest chinese buffet I've been too. All the food trays were neatly presented and I thought overall, for the price they had a descent amount of variety of food and wow lots of seafood! The crabs were skinny and small, but hey they are still crabs! The oysters tasted fresh, the class, shrimp, sashimi were not fishy! Most importantly the taste of the cooked food was pretty good, well seasoned, not too salty (unlike most chinese buffet), and was not dosed with tons of msg! The teppanyaki made to order station did a great great job seasoning and cooking the food! There weren't much variety of the ingredients, but it was sufficient and the result was very tasty and well seasoned. Even my picky eater daughter ate quite a bit! I think around $17.99. I think this buffet is the best one in the area compared to the one I have already tried in the Modesto area. They have plenty of selections of food here. My husband and I came here for dinner and it was incredibly packed! It felt like I was in a school cafeteria w/how squished I felt - not a good feeling. I heard dinner was better than lunch. It's been a very very very very long time since I've gone to a buffet and this is how you can tell. When we checked in, the gal told us the total and I was thrown off like...is she asking us to pay right now? we haven't even eaten yet. lol. apparently paying ahead of time is standard for buffets, sooo... We were seated within 5-10 minutes. I did a swoop of the buffet first before deciding on what I wanted to start with. I would say at least 50% of the food is fried and yes, I did indulge a little but seeing the same gold color all over my plate was not that appetizing. I wish they would offer a stir fry of veggies, sauteed bok choy, something fresh. The only veggies seemed to be the salad bar. My husband and I had just sat down and saw I had a chicken wing on my plate and said if I liked it, to wait before grabbing more because he saw a kid after me, grab a chicken wing with his bare hands and then his mom told him something like, "you're not going to finish that" and so the kid put it back, WITH HIS BARE HANDS. C'mon momma, that's nasty!!! 1. don't grab food with bare hands. use the tongs 2. don't put food back that you've already claimed. I feel bad for the next customer who grabbed that pre-loved chicken wing. The hibachi thing was okay. I was confused on how it worked so I was weirdly standing there for the cook to hand me a cooked plate. So you need to serve yourself the raw items you want, give them the raw plate, then they cook it. The cooks didn't ask us any questions like if we wanted spicy or sauces we wanted. They did whatever, the flavor could've been stronger but wasn't too bad. For $25+ for an adult dinner, I wasn't going to eat a large plate of noodles. The seafood boil was more heavy on the potatoes and crawfish than the shrimp. I love shrimp but this just wasn't it. I could maybe fish a few shrimp pieces but it was limited. I saw crab but the pieces looked small and the legs very skinny and too much work for the little meat I'd get. So I did not get the crab but then I saw a seasoned crab and tried that. yup, too much work for small crab. Beverages: their sodas and teas are full of sugar. There was only 1 unsweetened tea option with 3 sweetened tea options. I wish they would offer more unsweetened options. The dessert selection was incredibly limited, I could count the items on one hand and they had no labels. The fried banana was over by the fried calamari instead of near the dessert section. I grabbed one of the little vanilla ice cream cups and added the fried banana to it. It was decent. The staff was very busy clearing plates from other tables but seemed to miss our table quite a few times. Again, I heard dinner was better than lunch. Overall, this place was $56.27 (w/tax) for 2 adult dinners. I think it was overpriced for the quality and variety of food they offered - at least half was just fried foods. If dinner is the better option than lunch, then I don't have an interest in seeing what their lunch offerings are like. Good to try once if you're interested. read more

We've been to Gohan a couple of dozen times over the years but I think they have lost my business, my family's business, and my extended family and friends' business because of PRINCIPAL!!! Took the extended family there last Sunday for a birthday and when we went inside, the lady says " Even though your birthday is today, it's not part of the birthday promotion because you can't use it on a Sunday, ONLY Mon- Sat. You'll have to use it the tomorrow through next Saturday." That's a weird thing where you can't use it on the day of your birthday if it lands on a Sunday but oh well. So I bring less people to eat there yesterday, Saturday the 10th because the other lady said it will still qualify for the birthday promotion from my encounter with them on the previous Sunday the 4th. NOW THEY SAY THE BIRTHDAY PROMOTION DOESN'T WORK EITHER!!! THE SHORT hair Chinese lady says you can't use it this week, your birthday week expired. The other lady said to come back this week if I wanted to use it BUT NOW ITS A DIFFERENT STORY. SMH. So basically she is saying" If your birthday lands on a SUNDAY,you would have to use it a WEEK BEFORE YOUR ACTUAL BIRTHDAY?" Just FYI, this is about PRINCIPLE, not a free meal. We usually tip pretty good already compared to what we see from other guest ( usually tip like 20% cash or so while others only tip a few dollars on a buffet to them), but if a birthday promotion was used, we tip even more so the lost money goes to their workers/bussers. We were a group of 12 people, and we decided to try this Chinese buffet for $25.99 per person. It was incredibly affordable, and we couldn't go wrong with that. While the selection of food wasn't extensive, the crawfish was absolutely delicious and worth the price. My family and I had a great time at Great Wolf Lodge, and we decided to come here for dinner as well. It's just a 15-minute drive away, so it's a convenient option. So far so good! Today is opening day so I decided to stop by and check it out. The parking was easy and only had one person in front of me to pay (ahead of eating). Prices were decent (under $20 for lunch with a drink included) and the variety was good. There was plenty of tables and booths and it was very clean & bright. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food wasn't bad for lunch, I'll have to bring my family back for dinner sometime since I hear it's a little different (food offerings). Updated since the restrooms were flooded with toilet water and no signs that they were out of order! I let them know and they seemed to be aware already. I was pleasantly surprised to find this place while visiting Tracy and came back twice to confirm selection was consistently delicious. I went with my Mom last weekend, as it's her favorite place to eat when she is ambulatory enough to leave the house. She is 82. When we got there, I dropped her at the front door 5 minutes before they opened and parked. They watched my Mother for 5 minutes, standing out in 100 plus degree weather, without bothering to open the door, so she could sit down. When we finally paid and went for our food, maybe 15 items were still not brought out. When I told the host, she went back and got on their case to do it. She should have been more on top of it to begin with. One of the sneeze guards was repaired with duct tape. DUCT TAPE! The food tasted like it had been reheated and not seasoned. At one point, I had to tell one of the employees not to stand behind my Mom while she had her phone at full volume, because it was interrupting our conversation. Our plates were never cleared and that lady had the nerve to say thanks and come again. WE WILL NEVER COME BACK! Surprised people actually like this place. My nail lady recommended it, so I brought my husband here on a weekend. It was about $53 for two people for a Saturday afternoon. Their selection of food was okay, pretty small for a buffet, especially for more than $25 a person. Everything was so bland. Garlic cheese bread was so greasy. Sushi was not even up to grocery store premade sushi standard. I only had two plates of food and it I regret every calorie. Desserts that were supposed to be cold were room temperature. That really messed up their texture and flavor. The workers were really nice though. The robot is cute and he walks around with napkins and straws for anyone that needs it. 09/17/25- After Great Wolf Lodge, time for lunch and wanted to see for myself what they have to offer. Greeted by friendly folks in the front. 4 adults and 1 kid. There's a measurement of height on the side. They have Eat Free on your Birthday Week (yes, bday week and not on the exact bday as what buffet mostly have) Provided there's two paying adults. The kid with just had his bday yesterday but since I don't have any form of ID to present for the kid, maybe next time. Seated and the place has good amount of seating for a buffet place. The food selection was good, I would say but missing most of what I am looking for. No shrimp as what buffet has, only boiling style mix shrimp with musses, crawfish. I find most of the food salty and just average. There's a chowmein station where Amigo can cook it for you. Tips appreciated! There's fruit station, salad, fried, common chinese food, tilapia, desserts, sushi (not much selection on sushi, only like 6), soups, ice cream in a cup. The drinks are included. There's a fountain drink station, coffee if you wish. For the price for lunch, it could be okay but I have seen other buffet which has more seafood and meat in the venue. I did not get a chance to see the restroom. The workers are great when getting used plates that are done. They know when to take it away. There's also a robot roaming around that has fortune cookies/disposable chopsticks, etc which is good to see. I would say, it's an average buffet but I've seen better for the same price. Comparing this one and Beijing Buffet in Stockton, I prefer that better than Gohan. Not too bad at all. But maybe they have more for dinner as it has a higher price, I assume. We searched for an AYCE after the morning's disappointment with GWL's breakfast. Gohan has so much variety and everything was constantly fresh. Staff were constantly working to ensure food was prepared, refilled, and that tables were cleared and cleaned. Some places go heavy on sauce or have a greasy oily taste in their fried foods--not here! They fried to perfection. If you're looking for mediocre tasting food, this is the place for you. I don't know how you screw up cheese pizza, but this place figured it out. The coconut shrimp is basically walnut shrimp without the walnuts. Chicken broccoli, black pepper beef, coconut shrimp, and fried chicken was just ok. Kids agreed the orange chicken was lacking, Mac & cheese was dry, and the noodles tasted bleh. The only thing they agreed was good was the garlic bread. $180.xx (including a $20 tip) for 6 of us. Totally not worth it, but it was our first time here just to try it out. The one positive thing I can say about this place (thus the 2 stars) is that their staff is great. My son turned six this week, and when asked where he wanted to go for dinner, he said Gohan (because he's a big fan of the robots). I'm not a huge fan of the place, but my mom took us all out for a movie and dinner. When we got there, we told them it was his birthday three days ago, and they said happy birthday and then asked for proof. I said, 'No, what do you need?' and the lady said we needed to see a copy of his birth certificate or passport. I'm sorry, but I don't carry around birth certificates or passports. I completely understand that people lie about their birthdays for a free meal, but this is a six-year-old kid who will only eat two slices of pizza. Employees were always wiping down tables, chairs and condiment bottles which is very rare to see at restaurants. I was very happy to see that. DO NOT EAT THE SEAFOOD!!! Firstly, the decor is awful-- everything is grey and dull. The designated lobby area is far too small and poorly designed, leaving everyone packed like a can of sardines upon arrival. The internal layout is not made for a buffet, with people running into each other leaving the entire place congested like a high school cafeteria. There's nothing glamorous about this place. Secondly, the salmon is NOT salmon. It is a white meat fish with a RED TINTED GLAZE ON TOP!!! I've never been more disappointed. They should have labeled it salmon-colored fish. DO NOT EAT THE SEAFOOD. It is no good, not fresh at all. They add something to their white rice either oil or butter, giving it a strange greenish/yellow tint and whatever they added to it didn't even give it flavor. Their sushi contains the fake salmon and who knows what else. It was unappetizing. Cups were filthy. And the dessert was SCATTERED to where you have to go on a scavenger hunt to find your options. With a total of 3 options for dessert --an espresso square, fried dough, and chocolate, orange, strawberry, or vanilla cups of ice cream. Cheap, garbage options for $25 a person. As far as food selection goes, there is fried rice (with mushrooms...), chow mein, fried fish, more fried fish, more fake fish, stale macaroni and cheese, and 99c store pizza. If you don't read any of this review at least read this part-- To top it off we went to get another plate and BY THE TIME WE GOT BACK THEY SAT ANOTHER CUSTOMER AT OUR TABLE!!!!! The important thing is the food. Their sushi shows good preparation and style, more Japanese sized, with balance and good quality. Other food highlights are their spicy fried chicken (reminds me of a major chain), cajun shrimp boil, Dungeness crab legs, cajun crawfish, one hot table full of Chinese food as well as buffet offering of pasta and simple pizza. I was in a time crunch, so I quickly opened Yelp and saw this place had 4 stars and decided to give it a shot. HUGE MISTAKE! I should have taken more time to carefully read the negative Yelp reviews because they are very true. I suggest you fully read this review for the sake of your stomach, time, and wallet's life. The food is absolutely disgusting!! Four people costed around $112. Insane price for generic and disgusting food that is not even worth 3/4 of the price they charge. The chow mein was extremely mushy and lacked flavor just like the rest of the food. I had to drown the chow mein in soy sauce to make it more edible to me. Don't even get me started on the orange chicken. It was absolutely atrocious and I couldn't even swallow a bite of it and ended up spitting it out in a napkin. This place does not know how to properly season food as mostly everything I tried was insanely bland and the food itself is very low quality. Once I saw that they had fried frog legs as one of their options, I completely lost my appetite. The entire restaurant has a nasty and fishy odor. I was so disgusted by this and their bland gross food that I ended up skipping the actual foods and went directly to eating fruits and dessert which were also surprisingly very mediocre and low quality. The only impressive thing about this place is that they have a little AI robot machine continuously going around the restaurant with bowls of fortune cookies people can grab from. I would say this technology is their only redeeming quality but there is no point in having innovation if your food completely sucks and is a HUGE disappointment. Quite frankly, they should sell that machine and use the money to hire better chefs who can actually cook and season food properly or invest in better quality food. The fortune cookies and fountain drinks also sucked. How is that even possible??!! The drinks tasted very watered down and the fortune cookie I got was hard and burnt and various fortune cookies in the bowl also looked like this.
