With the pandemic our Redding buffets don't seem safe to me, but I like a variety. Found this place in Chico down here for a doctor's appointment with a friend. Oh my gosh this may be the best Indian food I've ever had so far. The chicken curry and butter chicken are delicious and the non is homemade thick fluffy to-die-for so good. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Super happy to find this place. Ambience: This place is reminiscent of a cafeteria. There weren't many Indian-looking decor. Food: At e$'s recommendation, two colleagues, he, and I came here for lunch. There are vegetarian and vegan friendly options. I got palak paneer and curried tofu with rice, which was very tasty. However, it had too much salt. My mouth was dry all afternoon after eating lunch there, even though I was drinking water the whole time during the meal. I'd still drive up Esplanade to Priya to get the lunch buffet if I had the choice. Service: You order what you want, and the server places the food onto a plate. You pay at the counter. This place is decent if you order spicy, however if you don't it's really bland. I agree it tastes watered down, but maybe that's a chico preference? When it was delivered one container was completely on it's side since they crammed 3 containers into one very flimsy bag. Avoid like the plague! I used to love coming here when they first opened. The food has gone downhill big time and the owners are rude and greedy. Just stopped in today to pick up some naan for an indian dinner we were making and the owner refused to sell it to us unless we bought food. What a greedy man. Lost a loyal customer over 10 dollars. He even had the nerve to say its my business and i can run it how i like. Well you lost both me and my family as customers and i will be telling everyone i know about this shady place. Tikka Masala is my go to but I've tried their other dishes and they are just as good. Stopped by around noon on a Saturday to try out this restaurant. They food is served like Panda Express serves food. They do have some cooked to order items but I did not try them. I had high hopes based on the reviews but they were dashed. I should have read the other 1 star reviews more carefully. They proved more accurate than the 4 star reviews. Ordered the student special which consists of smaller portion of rice, 1 entree, naan and a samosa. For the entree, I tried the chicken curry. The rice was barely warm despite being served from a rice cooker which should have kept it warm. The chicken curry was flavorless and the curry separated into the masala and some water. The samosa filling was ok but a bit on the dark side from the spices. But the samosa was not filled well. Lots of empty space. Normally costs $2. Not a very good value. The naan was at least warm but is the kind you buy at the Indian grocery stores. It was not made at the Cafe. In fact I ended up getting a slice of pizza down the street so I would not be so hungry or disappointed. read more

I'll start by saying that the food tasted ok. It was just alright. I came in on 8-8-17 to try the place out. I'd never been in before so I asked them about the size of the servings. The man seemed a bit impatient and just shrugged his shoulders and said, "It's a bowl with rice." Not very helpful or hospitable at all. Especially for a restaurant that was almost empty of customers (maybe this inhospitability is part of the reason for the lack of business). I went with the student special. It came out to just under $10, so I was expecting to at least be full. I was surprised to see him put literally one small scoop of rice and one small scoop of channa masala into my bowl and hand it to me... I mean it was literally maybe 200-300 calories of food for almost $10... I was too shy to ask for a refund, so I sat down and ate it. All the while I ate, an employee was sitting at another table scarfing down generous helpings of the same thing I was eating. He even got seconds. I looked down at my dish in disappointment after seeing the feast the employee was enjoying. It was such a small portion that I was nearly done before they brought my bread out. The entire meal was maybe 7-8 small bites and I left with that same gnawing feeling of hunger in my stomach, and a feeling of being cheated out of $10. Keep in mind I understand that food is expensive, but I don't think it's unreasonable for me to expect to feel full after spending $10 on a single dish. I'll never come back here, and I'll be sure to warn my friends to save their money. read more

I have not been there in a while and tried it once more today. It is very average maybe below. Everything I tried is too greasy for my taste. I know restaurants had a hard time and pricing has gone up over the last years but sadly this has gotten too expensive for an affordable lunch it used to be. I do not enjoy eating from paper plates with a plastic spork. that is one of the changes they made to save money I guess...not a good move in my book. The lamb curry had the exact same sauce as the chicken curry and the naan although very crispy ( the way I like it) was dripping with ghee or some other grease. Very nice people there , a clean looking place, but it has gotten too expensive and not as much fun to eat there anymore(paper plates and spork). I believe if they used half of the grease (ghee or whatever they use) went back to real utensils and their trays like before and just lowered their prices a bit they could do better. read more

I went for lunch with my partner to this cafe in downtown near Chico State. I was not impressed with the food, service, price or portion size. The food was bland which was surprising. The server behind the counter seemed annoyed when I asked questions. I chose the two item selection, it came with a sparse amount of flavorless yellow rice and one small scoop of each item. There was perhaps two pieces of small chicken in the scoop provided. I was highly disappointed. And they only make naan on certain days of the week? What is that about? Been to Gogi's twice now. For basically Indian fast food the place is really good. Both of the entrees I tried were delicious. The naan, which is extra, is cooked to order and is great. Service is good. The owners are nice, but I've had varying degrees of service from the employees. Last time I was in, the woman helping was great. Why three stars? Expensive for basically fast food. It's only a few dollars cheaper then priya, but quality is lower, servings are less. First time there the employee gave our tables order of naan away to another customer. The owner came out and apologized. No big deal, but the employee should have made it right in my opinion. So the big bummer... Got the goat curry tonight. It was delicious. Thing is, there was no goat in my bowl. The dish cost an extra $2 and there were 11 bones, big enough to count, and not one bite of meat. Feeling pretty ripped off. I plan to give the place one more try. I think it has potential to be a great joint. Take the review for what it's worth. It's entirely possible bad luck struck twice. read more

Their prices are quite reasonable for what you're getting but the selection doesn't seem to vary often but what they do offer is usually extremely good. Given the location people typically don't venture over here unless they work on campus or go to class. During the off peak parts of the year the food can sit a little too long but going just after lunch rush and it'll be great. The Palak Paneer had the consistency, texture, and color of pure baby shit but still tastes amazing. The rice was dry and clumpy as well (but only on this particular day at a very off hour). If you go early or on a day with enough turnover to force new batches their food is great. read more
