This place really hits a sweet spot between quality, value, and comfort. The staff is friendly, the vibe is very casual, and the portions are incredibly generous--probably one of the better value meals you'll find in Hoboken. The soy garlic fried chicken tenders were a highlight: fresh, flavorful, and served in a portion more than big enough to share. The sauce leans sweeter than your usual soy garlic so keep that in mind. The make-your-own Bibimbap bowl is a great concept. Everything in the bowl was solid--fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you'd hope for. I do wish there were a few more side options to mix things up a bit, but overall, very satisfying. The galbi was on the sweeter side compared to other places I've tried, but still really pleasant. Only note is that my drink didn't show up until about 15 minutes into the meal. This was my first time trying Gigi Grill in Hoboken. My sister had tried it back in Irvine. There's so many options and I love that they also served bubble tea. You go up to the screen to order if paying with credit card or Apple Pay. If not you can go to the front and order. It was like a Korean Chipotle / Cava style order. I ordered the soondobu (tofu soup) with three sides. I ordered the purple grain rice with cucumber kimchi, carrots and more cucumbers. The soodobu stayed really throughout our stay until I finished, it was also spicy . The beef was so trendy it melted in my mouth. I would highly recommend this. The cucumber kimchi, I was it was thicker instead of thinly sliced. That's my only preference. My sister got the same but got the matcha brown sugar bubble tea, no boba just jelly. It's been a long time since I've been to Gogi Grill and I thought to stop in for a grab and go dinner. The owner was my manager's wedding photographer and this was a dream of his. I know they opened a second location in the city. Happy to see this dream become a flourishing reality. The meal I ordered today was my favorite. It's a bit saltier than I remember, but I alternate from the vermicelli to the salad bowl depending on my hunger level. This will keep you satiated for a long work day. They now have two kiosks to order from when you walk in. I know a handful of the fast casual places in Hoboken have switched to this, but here they are also able to take your order as you are ready. This method helps save time at the register. I'm always happy with a restaurant that offers Ito En's classic green tea as well! Worst "korean" food i've ever had... and i'm putting the quotation marks because this was not real korean food. It was obvious from the way the food looked and tasted that this was not authentic. I got the spicy beef and tofu soup which was so oily that no matter how much I stirred it, there would be globs of oil sitting on top. There was also only about 4-5 small pieces of beef in the whole thing. It also came with a side of korean fried rice which was just flavorless brown rice. it's like korean chipotle -- great idea, pretty good execution. all the toppings are pretty much prepared ahead of time and you can just pick what items you want in your bowl (think bibimbap, fast food style). though the food is pre-cooked, quality isn't an issue at all. you can choose from bulgogi, chicken, and some other protein. i usually opt for the spicy bacon (aka spicy style pork belly/samgyupsal). you're limited to 4 toppings in the price, but i find that i always want more (c'mon korean bibimbap has more than 4 toppings, but i get it). i always opt for the bean sprouts (kong namul), zucchini, and spinach -- very classic for bibimbap. and then i get the butter kimchi, which is basically just kimchi sauteed in butter, yummmm! read more

Delicious Korean BBQ fast food has finally come to Hoboken. I stopped by based on yelp reviews. Very much like Chipotle's with its ordering: select choice of rice, protein and 4 sides to add to your rice bowl bibimbap plus your sauce. Try the purple rice (a mixture of white and wild rice), the thin sliced bulgogi rib-eye beef and whatever sides you want as long as you get kimchi. Yum! The server gave me two sauces (green and spicy red) because I couldn't decide. They were good mixed together, but I was partial to the cilantro lime jalapeño green sauce. Gogi Grill is a welcome and needed restaurant in a city with such a diverse and cosmopolitan population. Hopefully it lasts a long time in a spot where successive restaurants have failed every six months or so. Office tenant growth nearby bodes well for Gogi! read more

I picked up some food from Gogi Grill on Friday around 6:30pm. They sell bubble tea and they have a couple of seats outside on the sidewalk. I got a bulgogi bowl with vermicelli, and my friend got a a spicy chicken bowl with purple rice. The bowls were very filling, and the vegetables all tasted very fresh. You can pick up to four toppings, and you can also get sesame seeds and/or seaweed on top. The bulgogi itself was sweet and pretty average. Let me start by saying I love Korean food. I normally order from a different spot in Jersey City but I wanted to check this spot out. When I ordered (thru Grubhub) the delivery came early and the food was piping hot so I was hoping for good things. Plus they have milk tea -- all reasons for the 3 stars. But that's where the good ends. I regularly order the tofu & beef sondobu (sp) and even tho I'm not Korean I go to Korea often & have eaten at enough good Korean spots here in the US to know what *should* be in the flavor profile for the most recognizable dishes. Unfortunately, this missed the mark HEAVILY. While it was spicy, it tasted like what people think Americans expect from Korean food. While there was plenty of tofu & beef in it (kudos for that!), there were no veggies or egg (which I paid extra for the egg) and it really lacked flavor and the broth was super runny. The soup was spicy but bland and I definitely feel like I overpaid when I could have gotten the EXACT same thing from my go-to spot (Ahri's Kitchen) for the same amount and it would have been REALLY satisfying. The regular cabbage kimchi was ok - but again heavy on spice and thin on the other flavors. The cucumber kimchi was incredibly bland too though. I could have just eaten a bare cucumber from my fridge even though this was clearly marinated in something. It's a bit disappointing considering that a trip thru the Holland Tunnel or even over Marin Blvd gets you way better Korean food. :( read more

I thought the Galbi was under flavored and generally underwhelming. The spicy sauce was pretty good, flavorful and not too spicy. I would probably get the spinach as a topping next time. AMBIANCE: Fast casual where they make it for you and then you pay and serve yourself, like Chipotle. Decent space and a good amount of seating. The place was empty when I got there. Stopped by here to grab a quick lunch. I brought the rice bowl with purple rice, galbi, butter kimchi, white radish, cucumber kimchi and spicy slaw. Let me talk about the negative first. The galbi was such a disappointment, the meat itself was ridiculously dry, like small pieces of cardboard. There was a few rare pieces that were actually tender and they were very flavorful. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the pieces of meat were way overcooked. Conversely, I thought the spicy slaw was amazing. It was the perfect combination of spiciness, crunchiness and creaminess. I was initially a bit taken back by how "mayo-y" it seemed, but it was absolutely delicious and it came in handy against the overcooked galbi. The other accompaniments were also quite good, I particularly liked the two kimchis, both were the perfect amount of sourness and spiciness. The portion was also quite big, I thought it was pretty good value for the price. Overall, I've debated whether to give Gogi Grill three or four stars, but ended up giving it four as the vast majority of the dish were pretty delicious, save for the protein. There is now an amazing lunch alternative to Honeygrow and I can't be more excited about it. They are still in soft opening mode, so there were some minor issues with their payment system, but I'm sure they'll figure it out soon. This is a fast casual place - think Asian Chipotle. You pick your base (bowl, salad, or burrito), your meat (short rib +$2 ftw!!!!), 4 base ingredients (sauteed onions duh), and a sauce. I was overwhelmed by the sheer variety of options and the amount of food they give you. SO MUCH GOOD FOOD!! You can sample things too, if you aren't sure what the ingredients are. I would recommend getting the sauce on the side as some flavors might not always go well together. It was fine for me but for my coworkers who have never had Korean food before, I wish they had sample combos (e.g a numbered menu of options) so that it makes it somewhat easier to order. (Thinking of Honeygrow combos, with option to customize.) If you're ordering for the first time, try to stick to the ingredients you know (like lettuce, corn, onions, etc.) and depending on how brave you feel, try mixing in new(er) ingredients like kimchi, radish, etc. Get the short rib!!! This place is a great fast casual restaurant that has a lot of foods that can introduce you to Korean flavors.
