Orange chicken dinner special $8 & comes with an egg roll - actually really good!
    Rebecca C.

This place was the only packed Chinese place on Central ave when walking by so thought I'd grab a take-out menu. I keep wavering between 3 and 4 stars, but because this is Chinese food and take-out, which typically is not the best in my eyes... I decided upon 4 stars. The food was actually pretty good and not greasy at all. I ordered the Orange chicken which was just right and a large portion to boot. It came as a dinner special ($8 see picture) and included an egg roll or choice of soup instead. I ended up only eating half and hubby ate the rest. It was unfortunate though that he did not like his meal. We had such high hopes and thought "chow mein" - how can you go wrong with that? Well, after calling to confirm it wasn't an ordering mishap, beware. Chow mein - is not the typical fried noodles you get at most other places. Instead it is a bowl of veggies (bok choy and lettuce, onions, etc). When expecting a bowl of noodles, the last thing you want is vegetables. We thankfully ordered crab Rangoon as an appetizer, which was plenty for the 2 of us: 1 appetizer and 1 dinner special. I would order again, just make sure to confirm your ingredients in your order prior to placing the order. Also, be quick! The customer service on the phone is quite rushed. Other than that, no complaints.

The name of this place is Jade Wok, formerly known as Jade Garden taken over by a younger family. The few workers are super friendly always engaging in conversation. They have renovated the place, just needed a good cleaning and actual tables. JW still kept the old booth styles on one side. I have seen the Stanley Prime Meat from across the street to bring in fresh chicken to t Jade Wok. I am happy to see they are sourcing their meats locally. With central ave full of Latin food and Szechuan spots. Jade Wok is one of the best. The food has an above average taste. At JW one mostly see frying, steaming and braising happening in their massive kitchen. You have your regulars here Beef and Broccoli ,the half fried chicken, house special rice is great and tasty. They have the option to have the food extra spicy the way I like. Great neighborhood Chinese joint.

I said I would not eat Chinese food anymore.... but then I came across this Chinese spot that has sushi.... I love sushi! The sushi was goooood (spicy crab & California rolls) and the edamame was good as well. My husband had chicken and broccoli w. White rice and boyyyyy that broccoli was to die forrrrrr! & it's on Uber eats.

My go to place for Chinese food in the heights! Boneless spare ribs with lo mein is great, definitely one of the best if not the best in JC.

Salty boneless spare ribs. Steam dumplings are doughy. They get two stars because they arrived at a timely manner.

The dishes are very unique in cultural sourcing - it's not what you expect of a regular Chinese restaurant. The servings are HUGE and good for 2 servings. The ambiance is not that great even though there's a big space and there was a lot of junk sitting around the place like extra stock of drinks and boxes all over the place. I don't think people really eat-in here. When I did takeout, it was still not worth the price of other similar restaurants in the area. Also this place doesn't have combinations sold together -- you have to buy rice on the side for EVERY dish which is not a traditional way to serve each dish in general. The prices here are not worth trying it - way overpriced and overcharged! Should be more affordable since we do not get the rice with the combination plates.

They focus on sichuan and shanghainese dishes, but what really caught my attention was the FREE hanfu experience! It was pretty busy even on a rainy Monday, which says a lot about how popular it is in the neighborhood. It's located near Exchange Place/Grove St PATH! *Noodle w. Shredded Beef & Chili Pepper 小椒牛肉絲拌麵 $16 ** Their dry mix noodles totally exceeded my expectations! So saucy, perfectly bouncy noodles, and they didn't skimp on the bell peppers or beef at all. *Fried Bean Gluten 蘇式烤麩 $13 * My all-time favorite appetizer! The presentation was a little fancier than other spots, and the portion size matched the price as there were plenty of pieces of bean gluten. *Braised Abalone with pork Belly and Quail Egg 鮑魚元寶紅燒肉 $38 A "lucky dish" as abalone shaped like little gold ingots. The abalone was really tender, though I was hoping the pork belly would be melt-in-your-mouth. It came in a hot stone pot to keep it warm. The thick hongxiao sauce made me want a bowl of rice to soak it all up! *Tea-Infused Chicken with Mint 香茶薄荷葉香酥雞 $25 I could hardly taste the tea flavor in chicken, but the crispy mint really stole the show! The chicken stayed juicy and tender, and thankfully it wasn't too "yeet hay" after all lol. *Osmanthus Milk & Fermented Rice 桂花冰酥酪 $10 ** They've got many traditional, nourishing desserts, like pear soup, black sesame paste, and brown sugar fried sticky rice, but we went for floral and refreshing. The osmanthus and sweet fermented rice really popped in the milk pudding! Definitely save room for dessert.

Solid winter comfort food…read more We ordered the seasonal lamb stew and it really hit the spot on a cold day. The lamb was very tender and the broth was rich without being too heavy. Slightly spicy but adjustable. Definitely a rice killer. The shrimp with chives had a generous amount of shrimp and tasted fresh, just needed rice to balance the saltiness. Pear soup was light and nice, not overly sweet. Service was friendly and they even mentioned you can wear hanfu in-store for photos. Overall a cozy place for winter dishes.

Flavorful food, excellent customer service…read more My husband and I went here for dinner on Thanksgiving. Around 6:30 pm it was quite busy. The wait for a table took about 10 min. We were seated at the very front where there was quite the draft when someone opened the door. They would probably benefit from a winter vestibule. Although the place was full and they received a lot of pick-up orders, the service was still attentive and fairly prompt. We ordered the Truffle Fried Rice, String Beans, and Mapo Tofu, all to be made vegetarian. The food took about 20-30 min to arrive. All of the dishes were flavorful, delicious, and pretty big portions for reasonable prices. The dishes are all a bit too oily for my taste but you can ask to adjust amount of oil. Towards the end, I tasted meat and double-checked with the waiter, and it turned out he didn't realize that we wanted Truffle Fried Rice to be vegetarian as well. Both he and the restaurant manager apologized multiple times. The manager comped our meal and also offered a gift card for the misunderstanding. Will definitely come back for the flavorful food and excellent customer service.

The truffle fried rice was nice but didn't have the "wok hay" fried crunchy bits I look forward to, the rice was rather soft and I wish it had more truffle flavor. The spicy beef came out in a giant pot of peppercorns and the broth was spicy and flavorful and the beef was velvety soft. The pork belly was light and not fatty as a cold dish. Overall a good experience. I've seen tables getting oranges at the end of their meal as a sweet treat but both times I've gone, my group has never gotten oranges :(

A Decade of Love on a Plate: A Local Favorite That Punches Above Its Weight…read more This place is the definition of a neighborhood gem--the kind you almost want to keep secret, yet can't stop yourself from praising. Cheap and cheerful on the surface, it punches way above its weight class, delivering inventive, clean, Asian-inspired food that's masterfully cooked by clearly skilled hands--and made with real love. I've been coming back year after year for most of this restaurant's 10-year lifespan, and that consistency is no accident. Every dish tastes intentional, thoughtful, and deeply satisfying, with a clear goal: to feed people love on a plate. It's a super veggie/vegan friendly that easily wins over even my "meat and potatoes" husband--who happily cleans his plate every time. In an era where genuine hospitality feels increasingly rare, Perry single-handedly restored my faith that quality service is not extinct. Warm, attentive, and authentically kind, Perry makes every guest feel seen, welcome, and cared for--without pretense or attitude. This is food that nourishes, service that uplifts, and a place that keeps you coming back not just for the flavors, but for how it makes you feel. A true neighborhood treasure.
