Wonderful find (besides the lying to me about the menu)!! We got seated right away. As we entered, we saw a lady working on fresh dumplings; we knew at that point we were in for a real treat. Our kiddo got the hot and sour soup, my friend got the tofu and broccoli, my husband got the 3 pepper chicken, and I got the chow fun with chicken. We also got an order of fried chicken dumplings. The entire meal was a delight. The only reason with this is a 4 is because the menu said the lunch menu was from Tues to Sunday from 11-3, but the worker was saying no it says Mon to Friday (no, the menu clearly said Tues to Sunday. Yum! Came here on a whim tonight & I am glad we did. They have an extensive menu of Szechuan food & some American Chinese staples. Food is fresh, delicious and plentiful. Service is brisk. Absolutely loved this restaurant! You could easily drive past it or mark it off as a shaky place but it was absolutely delicious. The waiters were so nice and the food was hot and ready yummy to eat. We ordered the whole fish, shrimp balls, eggplant stuffed with shrimp, cucumbers, okra in garlic sauce, and soup dumplings. I'm glad to see they have expanded the restaurant and now have proper seating at the restaurant. We came here again over the weekend for early dinner to satisfy those spicy food cravings. We ordered a few things off the menu, fish and chicken dry pot...everything was super delicious bustling with flavors. We really liked how the amount of heat was just right, some places make it too spicy to enjoy the food but chefs here do a great job of managing flavors and spicyness. Ordered Grubhub takeout and got the vegetarian chow fun noodles along with the spicy vegetarian dumplings! I was pleasantly surprised by the noodles and really like the flavor (though I def added sriracha on top). Authentic Chinese food! The place is small and unassuming, but they serve really yummy Sichuan cuisine. The lunch special is a great deal - $10 for rice, protein, and an appetizer. Fried pork dumplings: usually I'm used to fried dumplings having a bit more of a crispy texture on the bottom. They were fine, but I'd rather make my own at home though. Chicken feet: This was the best thing from my order. Beef tripe: I usually love beef tripe, it's one of my favorite things to get at dim sum. I'm not sure how to explain it well but the flavor and texture just fell flat for me. I would not order this again. What really stood out was the chilli braised fish fillet and the dry fried beef with Chilli. Both were loaded with flavors and was spicy and numbing just as it should. WOW. Loved the food at Chengdu1. The restaurant is family-owned and operated, with authentic and exceptionally delicious Szechuan cuisine, sizable portions, and reasonable prices. While the outside of Chengdu1 looks rather unassuming, the inside is very nice and quite elegant. There is parking in the plaza across the street. The food came very quickly after we placed our order. My family's spice tolerance is on the medium-low side so we asked for dishes to be less spicy. My favorite dish so far is the Fish with Bean Flower in Hot Chili Sauce (豆花鱼片), which was just incredible! This was my first time having the douhua (i.e. the tofu pudding, which they call bean flower due to direct translation) in a spicy sauce, and it was such an exciting explosion of flavor. The douhua was so soft and fresh, and complemented the fish filets well; I also enjoyed the roasted chickpeas that they added on top, which also gave the dish a subtle nice crunch. In addition, the Eggplant w. Garlic Sauce (鱼香茄子) was delicious, and the eggplant pieces were so soft and tender. Beyond the amazing food, the service was great, and the restaurant's family and staff are friendly. Chengdu1 is definitely going to be a frequent stop in Jersey City for me and my family. Truly the most bang for your buck. It definitely doesn't look like it considering the unassuming storefront but Chengdu1 actually serves very authentic Szechuan cuisine with reasonable pricing and great portion sizes. There are plenty of seats inside and they were hosting a banquet when I last came. The service is a little slow because they seem short staffed but nothing crazy. My family and I have made several visits here and have loved everything we've tried. We love the Braised Fish Fillet With Chili Sauce, Hotpot For 2, and the Beef Tendon With Pepper Sauce. Our spice tolerance is on the higher end so I don't feel like any of these are too spicy. I decided to visit the JC neighborhood that a real estate agent might call Tunneltown, in search for formerly easy-to-find items like a newspaper and a coffee. It can be a bit desolate, which seems comforting after yesterday's deplorable crowd behavior at Acme. After a 7-11 visit I stopped at Chengdu1. Definitely illustrating pandemic consciousness, they allow one customer in a time and then you wait outside. Payment is handled via a metal pole with a bowl at the end. There's an impressive array of Szechuan fare alongside the usual Americanized Chinese dishes. I got the first three items of the first three items off the Szechuan appetizer menu. Dan dan noodles, was well constructed, light on top with a lake of meaty juice at the bottom. ChengDu style cold sesame noodle was darker and less peanut-y than expected. The best item, with a shockingly low price of $3.99, was pickled cabbage with hot oil. It wasn't leafy cabbage, it was crunchy, with a great double dose of flavor, first with the pickling then with the sauce, a reddish cousin of the cayenne/Buffalo wing genre. read more

Probably not the best location. Inside, based on others reviews it appears to look like a nice sit down white table cloth restaurant. I decided to order delivery for the first time and it was awesome! I had the hot sour soup (I love that they noted it is made fresh daily. Ingredients were great and I like that they didn't put the shreds of pork but mostly mushroom and tofu), Dan Dan noodle (so good, balanced in flavor of garlic, spice and vinegar, and great Al dente texture even reheated the next day) and finally the chili beef. It was very spicy but delicious with rice. My only gripe is that the noodles and beef was a bit oily but Szechuan food tends to lean oily. I came here, and got seated right away. With the menu it has lots of delicious foods, and they even serve dimsum! Will definitely come back here for dimsum. I ordered the soup dumplings, and these soup dumplings are massive! Very filling! And the soup was so good! Also ordered double cook pork! Delicious with a side of rice. Ordered the Szechuan chili noodles and it was absolutely delicious! It says spicy but its actually not that spicy! Food came in a reasonable time, did not have long wait time. Forgot to mention, they sell bubble tea based on the menu. The reason why I'm giving this place 5/5 is not because of the food. The table behind me ordered crabs, and the owner offer the customers gloves to keep their hands clean. Never have I ever been to a Chinese restaurant that does this. Szechuan food relies on its tingly peppercorns, chillies and chili oil as a basis lots of its food. Its amusing to see reviewers complaining that they did not like the dan dan noodle because its oily. Its supposed be oily; its one of the main ingredients!! ( that mac an cheese was to cheesy!! ) and you are also supposed to mix noodles well to incorporate oily bottom through all the noodles as traditionally ingredients sit in the bottom. I enjoyed chengdu 1, probably more than all the 25 or so chinese restaurants that I've tried in the hoboken JC area. I had very good dan dan, fresh lovely garlic cucumbers and the best and eggiest egg drop soup I've had. This place really surprised us. The staff is very nice and the food was pretty spot on. Soup dumplings were great. Szechuan wontons were great. Shumai was great. and Kung pao was great. Only thing we weren't crazy about was the Beef chow fun, as I had to add more sweet soy to get it going, as it was quite dry. Having said that, the beef was very good. Some places it's quite chewy or tough but it was nice and tender. For a hole in the wall outside the holland tunnel, they do some great stuff. will def be back. read more

I am a personal fan since this is right in my neighborhood so it's easily accessible and not too expensive. My personal favorite is the general tso chicken because the sauce that little bit of kick and tang, not your usual general tso's taste since they marinate with chili sauce. My boyfriend is obsessed with their egg drop soup but overall their soup prices are definitely a bang for the buck.
