This place is so quaint and cute, perfect for a date. We went here for dinner on a Friday night and it wasn't terribly crowded. There are only a few tables inside and outside so we got lucky. We had the vegetable waffles which were delicious. The soy sauce that comes with the waffles was especially good. My date had the vegetable gimbop and I had the tofu bibimbap. The tofu bibimbap was good but the egg wasn't great on top. The spicy sauce that came with the bibimbap was delicious. I would go back here again and try to the kimichi fries. Stay away It is not authentic korean but more like someone learned some korean recipes and decided to open a restaurant. Got the ramen and it was flavorless, which is extremely hard to do and at the price, it is 100% not worth it at all. Kimchi was bad and bland compared to most other places. Service was a joke too, we got a bottle of water and a different table walked in about 5-10 minutes later and they got a whole thing of water and cups for it. Solid food for casual Korean dining. I was pleasantly surprised that the Bulgogi Bibimbop actually had a little bit of crispy rice at the bottom of the hot stone bowl. The weird part was that they had the gochujang sauce in those small plastic takeout containers and they only gave me one which was not enough to flavor the entire bowl. My friends and I stopped in for lunch on Sunday, at 1 PM, following the Jersey City marathon. One or two parties of two also came in, and a couple people came in to pick up delivery orders. But overall the restaurant was really empty. The food was just fine. The kimchee fries seemed they would be a winner - with a name like that, it's like "what else do you need to know" - but the fries themselves were lacking crisp, and the kimchee didn't stay on the fries, leading to an uneven flavor distribution. On the other hand, the dumplings were nicely textured. I didn't really understand the stir-fry. Served on a tiny plate, it had to be either delicately stabbed with a fork, or gingerly handled with chopsticks. A larger plate would've let me scoop it up in larger portions. This is an awesome casual place, with excellent food. You arrive, order at the counter & they bring the food to you, nice casual ambiance. Not sure if they are BYOB but that would definitely be a nice plus. The food is great. Favorites are the kimchi fried rice, spicy wings & spicy chicken stirfry. Racism alert. Koreans just experienced racism at a Korean restaurant today by this young non-Korea lady server. Banging water bottles and glass cups on our table was not necessary with your attitude. Nor rolling eyes and yelling for a simple question asking when the service has been changed to go up to the front to make the order instead of taking orders at the table. I've been here multiple times, and today was the first time to be scolded to order at the front. For the server girl, if you don't want to work and don't want to see Asians coming in, please, please get another job and get a life.. this is a Korean restaurant and please expect Asian people walking in there to enjoy the delicious food, not your arrogancy. Peanut and tree nut allergy safe! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. A friend and I split two of their lunch special which comes with a meal and an appetizer to try several different dishes all of which were great. The Japchae being a highlight. The service was great the owners are very friendly and super helpful and create a family like atmosphere. I have a lethal anaphylactic peanut and tree nut allergy and I had no problems eating here. Went here on a Friday evening and were seated right away. We ordered the veggie waffle and a couple of stir fry dishes(spicy pork and spicy chicken)z Veggie waffle tasted like scallion pancake but in a waffle form.My toddler loved it. I guess people in Jersey City don't know what good Korean food is? I was pretty disappointed. The food is okay but it's very amateurly made. The kimchi is not fully developed. Really lacking the deepness in flavor that I have had at other places. The banchan was also a very disappointed. The items were not fully pickled either. The highpoint of the meal is that instead of the traditional scallion pancake, they have a scallion waffle. But honestly if the only interesting you do is turn a pancake into a waffle, you gotta step up your game. I ordered the spicy bulgoggi tofu stew, which barely had tofu. The beef was okay but the whole stew was lacking. The accompanying rice, which should be Jasmine rice, isn't. The bathroom is filthy so be aware. Zero stars for this establishment!! We ordered delivery and it was the worse experience ever! Disgusting!! We ordered 2 soups- when the delivery guy picked it up he spilt one, so had to return back to the restaurant to get another one.. he ended up spilling that one too. When food was delivered we were missing one soup and the rice containers had soup spilled all over it- when we opened up the rice container there was a cigarette butt in it. We assume he spilt it on the floor of his vehicle and scooped it back into the container. We called to complain and really didn't get satisfactory results. They offered to refund one of the soups and and discount our next order- who the hell would want to order from that disgust place again?! Please save yourself and money!! The truth about this restaurant as a Hamilton Park local that's lived here close to five years! This place is so hit or miss- I've ordered here a handful of times and it's so frustrating how inconsistent this place can be! Thus the polarizing reviews! It would be better off if the restaurant was just consistently bad. But there have been one or two times when the food was really good as well. I do believe the owners are Korean but the chef is not and it's possible different chefs work on different nights. Tonight's experience was just awful. Certain ingredients in the bibimbap clearly went bad and tasted sour- it was completely inedible! We called to complain and they refunded us a portion of the meal which is better than nothing. With Hamilton Park growing and the limited amount of restaurant options, owners should invest more time and quality control over the food being served to customers as there's much opportunity for improvement! read more

This place is BYOB and there's a liquor store right across from it. Now the food: Bibim bap: this was pretty standard and tasted as good as ones in ktown and Fort Lee. The rice was a bit undercooked, but the ingredients were plenty and a good variety. Pork Korean tacos: delicious with good fat and meat pork ratio. There are 2 people standing behind the counter who appear to be doing nothing other than stressing out. Trying to make eye contact with them but they are doing a good job avoiding it. 7:00pm: Customer who has been here longer than me was just given the wrong food and he had to give it back. The cook in the back is also like periodically yelling/singing/laughing which is kinda making it worse. 7:05pm: Heard them say my name, roll their eyes, then go back to the kitchen. Sounds like they forgot to put my food in or something but I'm not quite sure 7:34pm: One of the employees friends just showed up. They had a good laugh 7:35pm: Guy who got the wrong food finally got his order. Honestly he's the most patient guy I've ever seen. He politely told them to have a good night and they kinda blew him off 7:44pm: I'm now the only person in the restaurant. I wanna see if it can get to 2 hours without them acknowledging me. The cook sounds like he's having a blast 7:47pm: Got food. No discount. Still no eye contact but he did apologize to the floor. They got 1 of the 2 dishes I ordered correctly. Amidst the many many places in town this was next on the list and next to be a let down. All the options on the menu sounded pretty good especially all the entered with meat. The bulgogi, the pork shoulder they sounded good but I went with the grilled short rib which was also recommended by the server. When it came out I was welcomed to a number of disappointments. The bowl it comes in is really small bowl, which isn't that bad but all the other dishes I saw others eating out of were a better size for all the food you get. A minor complaint I know so let's move on, it just wasn't that good. For $18 you're ready for something good, this was blah. Not spicy or bursting with any flavor and the sauce the brought out with it some kinda ketchup stuff was just bad. The worst thing was the distribution being just way off. 75% of the dish is rice with some grilled onions and stuff and the grilled rib which there was just barely decent amount of but damn I didn't pay almost $20 for a bowl of rice. Ordered Japchae for lunch today. I'm Korean, so I've had my fair share of japchae. The noodles were so overcooked that I couldn't even grab it with my chopsticks..it would just break and fall apart that I had to eat it with a spoon.... Also the japchae was so watery.. like the water from the noodles wasn't drained prior to mixing all the ingredients together or something. Therefore, there was a pooled layer of water on the bottom of my bowl. Japchae shouldn't be watery. Also, it came with a little container of sauce...? Not sure what that is about. Japchae (well authentic japchae) is not served with sauce on the side. So disappointed. I was excited to try this restaurant because its basically the only Korean restaurant in JC (Hamilton Park/Newport area). Will not be ordering from here again. Bummer. read more

I'm not sure how this place ended up getting 4 stars with their current 131 reviews? It really makes me question choosing where to eat based off of businesses' stars now. So on a lazy night at home, I decided to try ordering food from somewhere new and different. I came upon Ahri's Kitchen for Korean food and it had, as I mentioned, 4 stars. I got excited and ordered for delivery immediately! I was told that delivery would take roughly an hour, but I was happily greeted with my food within 20-30 minutes! The very shortened delivery time was probably the ONLY saving grace. I ordered the Bulgogi Dupbop and was craving for the sweet and slightly salty taste on pieces of beef to be countered with soft white rice. Instead it was a tasteless bowl of food with a bad vegetable to meat ratio. Plus the meat seemed pretty low quality. My tastebuds and my stomach were so disappointed, the same also goes for the side of the short ribs that I ordered. That was better than the bulgogi, but that does not say very much. I finished the short ribs but I threw out about a third of my meal. I probably could have forced myself to eat my remaining food, but at that point, I'd rather just save the calories for something better. I guess I'll have to get my Korean food fixes by making the trek to NY's midtown. read more

Came here based on recommendations from friends and yelp reviews. I love Korean food so I was excited to try this place close to home! It is very cute and small, you can walk up to the counter and order or sit outside if it's nice. The service was great, with the waiter coming to take our order outside so we didn't have to get up. Unfortunately the food was a bit of a let down. I am giving it 4 stars because I thought the flavor was pretty good and I did get a lot of yummy veggies with my bibimbap, but it was at least 50% rice. I had to take home half the rice because it was too much to eat, and also needed some soy sauce to go with it. The kimchi side is nice and spicy though. I also liked the pork although it was a bit on the skimpy side. I would try this place again if I was sharing the bibimbap with someone else since it's a large dish, and ordering 1 or 2 apps as well. Ahri's Kitchen is a small place that has probably about eight tables or so. You order at the counter, find a seat, and they'll bring your food to you. Here is what we ordered: Chicken dumplings ($5) - these were perfectly pan fried and not too greasy. The filling wasn't anything to write home about though. It tasted like your standard frozen Chinese supermarket dumplings. Bulgogi roll ($8) aka kimbap - a little bit too much rice but not bad overall. It comes with a small side of kimchi. Spicy Pork Shoulder Dupbop ($12) - it's not as spicy as it looks. The pork was sliced thin, which I liked. But I feel like it could have used more meat. There were more onions than pork in it. Korean ramen ($8) - I thought this was a dry ramen since the menu didn't indicate anything about a broth, but it came with soup. Again, there were too much onions in there. There were more onions than there was ramen, which should not be happening. The ramen was also a little soggy. It wasn't the best I've had, but it wasn't the worst either. I probably won't be back. The food was very mediocre. I feel like I can pull some Korean food recipes off the Internet and make it better (okay, maybe not - I'm just being really ambitious here!) Today I felt very compelled to leave a review about the restaurant due to one of the employees' unprofessionalism. The food itself is absolutely great. I had been a loyal customer to this restaurant for a while. Unfortunately, there's an employee there that just appears to hate being there as shown by her demeanour everytime I go there. In the past this same individual has taken my order over the phone, charged my credit card, and when I had gone to pick up my order, she had realized that she forgotten to submit my order, and instructed me to wait 10 mins with no display of any apology, so I had her reverse the charge and left without my food. Today, I got the spicy tuna roll and when I went home, I did not see the kimchi. I had to go back to the restaurant to get the kimchi. This was the same girl on shift. She had explained to me that spicy tuna roll order doesn't come with kimchi and that you must ask for it. In all my previous orders of spicy tuna roll, it always came with kimchi without me asking. The other issue I had with her today was that while she was taking my order today, I had to first wait for to unwrapped her chocolate ice cream bar. She was eating it in front of me. No other restuarant establishment would condone a cashier eating food in front of the customer especially when the food is from another restaurant. This is unprofessional. She was not wearing her mask on her face, but on her neck which doesn't offer any protection. This poses a health risk to everyone. In light of all this, they have lost a loyal customer. I would advise the owner that this employee be reminded that now more than ever it is important to keep the customers happy since many businesses are struggling to make ends meet. This employee's job would be put in jeapardy if the business doesn't survive during the pandemic. read more

I've been living in the neighborhood for a long time but I've never been to this place. My friends & I went to this place on a Sunday afternoon. The parking around here can be a headache since there's only street parking. We were able to find the parking spot in 10 min. This place is little & quiet. You can find your own seating when you get in. And then you can just order & pay st the cashier. They will serve the food to your table. The staff there is really friendly. She recommended me the burugolgi bibimbap. The dish came in a heated bowl. The rice is covered by a fired egg, veggies & burugolgi (beef). This dish need to be mixed with Korean style spicy sauce & we can adjust the spicy level when mixing. The tip is that don't it the rice when it's just served. The heated bowl can burn the rice for a little but so the bottom of the rice will become crispy & add more texture to the dish. read more

Came here for dinner. Some of my food was good, yet some others were bad. Definitely try their wings. Even though the wings were tiny, they were crispy and the sauce was great. HOWEVER, don't get the seafood tofu soup. It was flavorless and mostly tofu. Why call it seafood tofu soup when it's 90% tofu? You might as well just call it tofu soup. :) read more
