D6. Chive and Pork Dumplings pan fried

I've been here several times and they never disappoint. They're inside the mall food court but the quality and service are on par with a restaurant. A cute place. Definitely recommend. The pan fried dumplings are so good.

    Steamed veggie dumplings, takoyaki

Mall food courts don't generally carry a good reputation, and Newport is no exception. Dumpling Cafe stands out, much like Kaya did in years past. Wanting a quick lunch but lighter than the fried fare at Chick Fil A, Shake Shack, or Popeyes, I got an order of steamed veggie dumplings and, because I can never pass it up when it's on the menu, an order of takoyaki. The dumpling wrappers were a bit doughier than expected, but the filling had a nice gingery hit. The takoyaki were excellent: crisp, fried balls of batter surrounding chewy octopus and scallion with a not too sweet sauce. All that's missing is a swipe of kewpie mayo

We had a day after wedding get together at our place and the original plan was to order some soup dumplings as a side, since they are typically a crowd pleaser. We ordered from Dumpling Cafe when we found out our usual Hoboken soup dumpling spot didn't open until 5 pm on Mondays. We got 7 orders of the pork soup dumplings. Each order comes with 5 pieces and they're each served in its own little tin pan, which really helps keep the dumpling intact. Everyone loved it, especially the presentation (since other places typically just serve it all in a plastic container. They were the first apps to be devoured. I wouldn't mind getting some more soup dumplings from here again. I also saw they have roast pork on the menu, and I'm intrigued since there aren't any good Chinese BBQ places in the Hoboken/JC area.

I was definitely excited to stop by Dumpling Cafe. There are so many food options within the Newport mall, but Dumpling Cafe really stood out. The lady was nice and the menu was easy to read. Sadly didn't order dumplings because I wasn't in the mood, so I'll be sure to try that next time! I opted for the BBQ pork rice bowl. The meat was so flavorful and the bok choy was incredibly fresh. There was definitely a lot of white rice so I saved some for later. Also, decided to order a scallion pancake which had a savory dipping sauce. For a location with a mall, Dumpling Cafe surpassed my expectations. Will definitely try to swing it next time I'm at the mall!

I was pleasantly surprised by their options offered considering they are in a mall. I ordered a duck rice bowl and I thought it was ok. I liked the veggies, and the portion was decent. But the duck meat ratio was a little off. The amount of duck pieces was nice, but the pieces were mostly boney which is where it was not as satisfying. It also makes it more difficult to eat out and about in a mall or for a casual lunch with others. I think I would overlook the difficulty eating and the bone to meat ratio of the pieces i got if the meat texture was better but it was pretty chewy. maybe it was an off day or maybe I need to try something else next time. They have a lot of potential with their offerings so I'm holding out hope.

D6. Juicy Pork Dumplings and (Hot Item - Pan Fried Chive&Pork Dumpling
    Nupur B.

I have ordered from dumpling cafe numerous times now and my first order was the best one. Juicy pork dumplings are good but they have become more doughy and less juicy since then (back in January 2022). The packaging is perfect, they come neatly packed in separate small pans. I have ordered soup dumplings at least 10 times I think and I never had an issue with a dumpling falling apart or torn dumpling wrappers. Pork chive and basil chicken dumplings are great ! I loved the spicy cilantro, garlic and scallion sauce as well (it's for a $1.50 but worth a try). Also try their pork dumplings fried (they are incredibly tasty but too oily at the same time) Some of the things I have observed are that they tend to get your order mixed up sometimes (I have been given basil chicken in place of pork chive and vice versa a couple times but as I ended up liking both it wasn't an issue for me). I have tried their BBQ pork and shrimp tempura rice bowls but I was not impressed with those. Not enough food for the price of rice bowls. and not much flavor. I have stuck to ordering dumplings since. Definitely recommend this for dumplings !

Got to the mall and hadn't been there in COVID-whenever. I'm a sucka for dumplings and if it's done wrong, I'll hate them forever. So of course I had to try them. Got a deal with 10 dumplings and a soda for 1 price. Got 5 with beef and 5 with pork & cabbage. Tasted my friend's food: soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, and a bowl of goodniss with chicken, egg, rice, & pickled veggies. It's a mall. It's not in NYC Chinatown. I wasn't expecting 'goodniss beyond' & that's exactly what I got. My dumplings were perfectly fried, the filling well-seasoned and had quality meat, in packaging that absorbed any extra oil, yet kept them crispy-edged. The soup dumplings were done perfectly, and in lil light foil cups that keep that soup broth/filling captured. The scallion pancakes were great, the perfect crunch and the perfect size & amount of chives. But that bowl of food!? ugh. I want to go back and order them all. So much effort put on that chicken, and the outer crunch worth a 'chewing yes nod'. I saw the pickled veggies in that bowl and knew this place was legit. It was then I went to get the menu. I don't think delivery would keep things perfect, but I would definitely make a trip to the mall using this place as an excuse to pig out Chinatown style before waddling back to my car.

Highly recommend trying if you're dinning in the Newport mall food court. Their dumplings are delicious! You can get them steamed or pan fried (+$1). You cant go wrong either way, they are both good! I'm also a fan of their Taiwanese beef noodle soup and their fried crispy chicken that they offer on both noodle soup and rice bowls. The spicy sauce is also worth trying if you like a little heat but hate that they charge $1.50 for that.

    Spicy beef hot pot

Ordered the spicy beef hot pot and they failed miserably. How do they sleep at night charging over $14 for this hot mess. There was literally 3 pieces of beef and just a bowl full of bland noodles. This is garbage!

The best beef noodle ever!!!! I also love their soup dumplings. Just try, you won't regret!

This is the second time my husband and I have eaten here. It hits the spot each time. Tastes very authentic and I think it is worth the buck. We always get the roasted duck rice noodle soup. The broth alone is so flavorful. There are a lot of choices in the mall but I would go back here everytime!

R7. Minced Marinated Pork Rice Bowl N1. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup S4. Fried Crispy Chicken S1. Hot and Sour Soup

The beef noodle soup tastes decent. Marinated pork with rice was good at first but soon became too salty and greasy and I couldn't finish. The fried chicken was just soggy... sour and spicy soup came for free with the marinated pork with rice, I probably won't ever order it by itself now that I tried it. Overall the food are all just mediocre and if you are a picky eater there's a good chance you leave your meal unfinished. On the good side though, the food was very affordable and probably costs 12~15 per person. There are not that many Chinese food options in JC so it doesn't hurt to just try it out or eat it as a casual meal.

Dumplings were just ok. Wrapping is a little thick and the filling is a bit bland. The beef noodle soup is pretty good.

We arrived on-time and waited another maybe 5 mins for our table. No biggie. I really love that each person gets their own soup pot. Makes it much easier when you've got a variety of spice levels to deal with. Everything we got was fresh and good quality. The restaurant space itself is very nice and modern feeling. Pretty large with a variety of table spaces and sizes. Everyone we interacted with was friendly. Service was good and they were pretty busy but it was only felt in my drink being delayed from the bar (placed before we ordered any food but showed up only after food arrived. Husband's beer arrived super fast though fwiw) My only gripe is the menu on the iPad thing - there are no descriptions of anything (including cocktails). We kept trying to click stuff on the iPad to see the description, but it was adding it to the cart. It would be great if there were descriptions, so you could see more detail about each item before you order (at least for the cocktails). We ate à la carte but the AYCE was starting while we were there and it looked pretty dope. Lots of good stuff laid out in large qty. All in all we will probably add this to our hotpot restaurant list and will return again.

The tables are spacious and the place is bright. We ordered a variety of meats and veggies for hotpot and bbq and it was alright. The hot pot is definitely better than the bbq as the meat quality was too fatty for bbq. Moreover, because they don't change the grills, the oils from the meat just pool onto the grill and the meats get really oily to eat after a while. We also got the fried chicken, spring rolls, and fried buns apps and I thought that the chicken and buns were good but the spring rolls were okay. I loved this place!…read more I came here on a late Friday night, probably around 8pm and was glad that they were still opened. We were greeted very welcomely and was seated right away. It was unusually cold in NY during this time (5/23/25) and initially we were seated by the door where we would catch the cold draft every time the door opened. We asked if we can switch seats and the waiter was more than helpful. I feel bad for not getting his name, because he was very helpful throughout the entire dinner service, but, I've been walking around in the cold all day and the only thing that was on my mind at that time, was a nice warm meal. I've done a lot of Chinese hotpots and this was the first that we get the soup and grill without a price difference. The selections were typical, some may say less than other places, but, I felt that less was better. When there is too much to chose from, you don't know what to pick or pick too much. The one thing that I did missed was fresh tofu. They had a variety of tofu but not fresh tofu. But, I probably shouldn't waste my stomach space on tofu for and AYCE, anyway, lol! We opt for an non-spicy and a spicy soup base. If you are like me and do not like mala (numbing spice), I would not recommend getting a spicy soup base. Even my cousin, that does like mala, said it was a little overbearing after a while. If you do love spicy, like me, they have a condiment station to make your own sauce and have several chili options to chose from that is not numbing spice. For the price and selections, I feel that it was very satisfying. I really enjoyed their homemade peach and kumquat lemon tea; but, order fast because once it's gone, you are out of luck! The place was clean and the noise level was average. I think this is the best Chinese hotpot place that I have experienced in USA and would definitely go back!
