I placed my order online literally 5 minutes before showing up and it was ready. Super quick & efficient! The garlic sauce smelled tremendous and tasted great too. The chicken pieces were so inconsistent which is unlike most Chinese spots I've been to. Usually they're generally sliced in the same size & shape but this was a bit harder to hit and some pieces were drier than others. There's plenty of veggies here; I would've preferred only broccoli so maybe I'll specify that next time. The shrimp fried rice was decent but lacked flavor, and shrimp! For the $1 upcharge, I expect more than a handful of shrimp in here. The fried rice could've also been fried more and I needed to add soy sauce to bring out some of that satisfying salty taste I was looking for. I ordered the Broccoli with spicy garlic it was so soaked in the juice it was disgusting. The Shrimp Egg foo young is always my favorite dish at chinese restaurants but this had no flavor it was over cooked. Lastly the Bbq boneless spare ribs with fried rice burnt can't chew it , maybe I got 2 pieces I could swallow. I looked at all the good reviews for Chen so I ordered here but my experience will turn me against CHINESE FOOD!! I threw it all out! I'm shocked this place has any good reviews. Price + Quality + Speed. Chen's is super underrated and flies under the radar because of its location and exterior. After being super disappointed with Lo-Fatt-Chow's bland food we decide to give Chen's a try and it did not disappoint. Our family of 3 was able to eat for $26, after tip! We placed our order online and we were able to pick up our food in less than 15 minutes. This time around, we ordered a large sweet and sour pork and large chicken lo mein. Both were super flavorful. Sweet and sour pork was moist but the fried exterior was nice and crispy. The chicken lo mein had a good amount of chicken and veggies in it. It was very saucy but not too salty or soy sauce flavored. Overall we have been very pleased to have Chen's in our neighborhood that tends to be a bit of a food desert by Hoboken standards. read more

I've been ordering take out from this place for about the last year and a half, mostly becuase they delivered quickly, were open late, and their prices are the lowest. And to start with, that was ok - the food was never "good", not once - but it was edible, fast and cheap and that's all I require from chinese food especially delivery. But over the year and a half I've been ordering, the food has taken a steady and quite gross downward slide of quality. Over the last few months there were a few instances where I lost my appetite halfway through and just threw the remaining food in the garbage. That wasn't enough to motivate me to stop ordering from them or write a bad review, like I said my standards are not high for chinese delivery. But last week, The absolute bottom was reached. I ordered two combo plates, one of boneless spare ribs, and the other chicken lo mein. What I got 10 minutes after ordering (yes, you read that right, TEN MINUTES) was luke warm mushy noodle paste and stringy, disgusting looking "chicken" that smelled like it had been sitting out for the last 5 hours. Which of course it had been, since there's no way they took my order, cooked it fresh, then got it on a bike, and then delivered it to me 10 blocks away within 10 minutes. Not that I would care if the food was made ahead of time, but this was a whole other level of disgusting. It was nauseating and I literally almost vomited when I smelled it. The spare ribs on ther other hand, were more like beef jerky. Greasy, sinewy, tough as nails beef jerky. Honestly it was close to mummified. And the fried rice in both plates was yellow mush as well. But what baffles me most isn't the disgusting food, it's that a human being looked at it/smelled it, put it into two take out containers and sent it out without a second thought. Like no big deal, this person just paid 30 bucks for food and we're now going to send them some rotten, decomposing garbage to eat and that's totally ok, whatever. It's mind boggling to be honest. Given my previous experiences with this place, and I'm not just referring to this final gross out, like I said I've thrown away food from them several times - I have NO idea how this place is so highy rated... draw your own conclusions - it's cheap, but the food is BAD. Trust me on this, this is not a place you want to order from at any price if you value your health. read more

This review is long overdue. This restaurant is a pillar within the community and been feeding the community Delicious Chinese food for however long I don't know but for me, the past 10 years. I have ordered there countless of times and every single time!! Never ever been disappointed. I no longer live around there but everytime I'm in the area, I always swing by. Restaurants like this need to be constantly appreciate because where can you get delicious food that will fill you up for under 10 bucks in Hoboken anymore? Tried them because of the good reviews and prices. Unfortunately, basically all the food we got was very bland and it prepared well. The delivery was quick ~30 mins. Spring rolls: decent, not greasy which was good Egg roll: very bland but not greasy Pork wonton soup: dumplings weren't cooked enough so they were tough, filling was bland. Broth was good though. General Tso's: fried rice was super bland lacking basically all flavor. Chicken was not good at all. Every piece was chewy and fatty. They were really mushy. The sauce was fine, not really spicy. Very disappointing as these seem to be a hit based on reviews. Pork Lo Mein: noodles weren't cooked enough. Overall fine but could've used a little more flavor. Not sure if it was an off night but don't think we'll try again as there are so many other spots to order from. read more

Because the entire projects order from them Everything that I get here is fairly tasty my favorite is the chicken wings with friend green plantains with hot sauce and ketchup on everything. I was craving Asian food tonight. Was thinking Thai and then decided I wanted noodles. Went looking on Yelp and came across the reviews for this place so I ordered online. Got the fried pork dumplings because these are usually a favorite of mine and were a "favorite" on the reviews. These have interesting flavor but the texture is too doughy for me and the filling tasted almost like BBQ pork. 1-2 dumplings would be more than enough in my opinion but 8...god I'd be eating these for days. I decided on chicken chow mein and asked for added carrots and broccoli. I ended up pulling out all of the chicken and throwing it away. It was like boiled chicken thighs and I exclusively eat breast. Again flavor of the noodles was fine, but I really wanted lots of veg, noodles and a few pieces of chicken breast. For someone else, I'd recommend this place. Not everyone is as picky as I am. I just don't see myself ordering from here again, so for me it's a 3 but I'm giving it a 4 star review because my pickiness shouldn't affect their score. read more

I didn't even know there was takeout Chinese food besides Washington Street until yesterday, and I've lived in Hoboken for about a year now. You have your pretty standard Chinese takeout menu - General Tso's chicken, chicken and broccoli, lo mein, sesame chicken, etc. - Any staples you want, it'll be here. The fried rice was very so so - it was a little dry and lifeless. The General Tso and the Sesame Chicken looked exactly the same, only one had sesame seeds, but it was not bad. Another Hoboken Chinese place... another just average performance. Delivery was pretty quick, and prices are a little lower here than other places. Generally speaking, the portions here are really large as well... I mean really stuffed containers The line up: Wonton Egg Drop Soup - this was one of the highlights for me. The wontons were the doughy type (not sure why everyone lately does the flimsy ones) and the brother had sizable egg chunks. Good stuff. Egg Roll - yup. It was an egg roll. Fried Pork Dumplings - These were good... similar to the wontons, they were very doughy, and you get a lot of them ... more than other places. General Tso's Chicken - tons of chicken, little bit of brocolli. Exactly the ratio I want. It was ok... sauce had a bit more spice than other places, so that was a plus, but it wasn't as good as what they give you at Aroma. Huge portion though. Pork Fried Rice - Was really not a fan. This is another place where the fried rice is almost yellow in color, as opposed to that more brown color of the places I prefer. Wouldn't order this again. The plus to this... the container was barely able to be closed. Pork Lo Mein - this was good... not outstanding by any means, but sufficient. Similar to the rice, the container was stuffed to absolute capacity. Overall, good value here and stuffed packages, but I don't think I would order from here again. Perhaps one day I will find a Chinese place in Hoboken that does it all well. read more

This place is wonderful. It's run by a husband and wife team and I'm happy to give them my business. The lady, especially, is always so polite and sweet to my boyfriend and I. She always remembers to put extra hot sauce in the bag for my sweet and sour chicken too! Plus they have brown rice and they dont charge extra for the substitution.
