When I started working in Hoboken some years ago, Green Garden was the go-to Chinese restaurant for a majority of my co-workers when it came to ordering food to be delivered. It was cheap, and it was delivered quickly. I tried it once, maybe twice, and thoroughly disliked it, thinking the food itself was exceedingly mediocre. Getting bad Chinese is like getting bad pizza. It's rare, but it happens (unless you're ordering pizza from a place like Domino's, in which case getting bad pizza is the norm). Sorta became an in-joke down through the years (albeit a not particularly funny one) that whenever the office would order Chinese as a group, or "team," (I've always hated the Orwellian corporate psychology-101 technique of calling everyone laboring in the office a part of a "team," but I guess it beats calling everyone in the office "family"...when that happens, I usually can't resist mumbling, "Yeah...family...Manson family." Anyway...) someone would inevitably crack, "Don't ask Ed. He's too highfalutin for Green Garden." And I might reply, "No, but I value good food." In recent years, I've gotten away from eating Chinese food entirely. In part, that's for health reasons (unless you eat something like steamed vegetables, Chinese food doesn't seem very healthy to me), In part, I've just kinda lost my taste for it. The other day, though, a co-worker/friend was ordering from Green Garden. At this point, no one asks me. But I thought, "At home, my cupboard is bare, I'm hungry, I haven't had Chinese in a good long while, and it's cheap." I piped up that I was willing to partake. After a moment of stunned, unbelieving silence from my co-workers had passed, I undertook to peruse the on-line menu, and ordered a combination platter of wonton soup, pork fried rice, and sesame chicken. I decided to look on it as a sort of gastronomic lark, a culinary "adventure." How bad could it be? As bad as my memory of it? I suddenly remembered my delicate digestive system and thought with not a little trepidation that I might have just made a big mistake. But at that point, I was already committed in terms of payment and the on-line order. Delivery was pretty swift, and the price was still very moderate. Plastic forks and spoons were provided (not all places do that anymore without being specifically asked), as well as soy and duck sauce (no hot mustard, which I usually use in wonton soup, but I was willing to overlook that). I dug in. How bad was it? In actuality, it was pretty good. There was more than enough food provided (although another piece of broccoli added to the sesame chicken and another wonton added to the soup wouldn't have been a bad idea). My digestive system came through it unscathed, and I didn't get a headache. And I think I actually enjoyed what I ate. I don't know if they have new management, or ownership, or they've merely stepped up their game, or my tastes have deteriorated markedly with my advancing decrepitude, but fairness dictates at least a 4-star review. It was cheap, it arrived quickly, it was plentiful and tasty, plastic forks and spoons were provided. I can't say I've undergone a transformation of religious intensity and suddenly "love" Green Garden, but I can say...at least I can after my most recent experience...I liked what I had. What's not to like? I wouldn't be averse to ordering from Green Garden again when hungry or when nostalgia for Chinese food moves me. Recommended. read more

Easily the most impressive Chinese culinary experience I've had to date. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and the attention to detail in the flavor profiles sets this place apart from the rest. Highly recommended for a top-tier mea read more

Green Garden - Chicken and fries - Chinese Near Me - Hoboken, New Jersey

I normally stick with #1 fine chinese but I decided to venture out to a new place. Now I can only rate a place on my go-to meal of general tso's and sesame chicken. This is the gold standard of chinese takeout and if a place can do those 2 well then they will get my business. The general tso's chicken is sweeter than others which is unique. Normally, general tso's has a hint of spice in it but not this one. The sesame chicken has a nice crunchy outside coating which I loved and had good flavor. The veggie dumplings was all dumpling and no filling so not my favorite. Fyi, this place is cash only. I don't know if I would order from here again since it wasn't better than my go to spots. It was quick delivery which is convenient. Maybe some of the other items are better but that's not for me to try! Come check it out. read more

Best Chinese spot in the city, hands down. Was SO happy when they re-opened last summer! (We were getting our Chinese food in Jersey City until then!) My boyfriend's family has also been coming here for years. read more

I was excited for the dumplings cause the photo reviews looked like the real, thick good kind but super disappointed cause they are completely different like the frozen store bought dumpling... not good at all. the chicken and broccoli is 85% broccoli ... read more

Green Garden - Like the frozen store bought dumplings... not good - Chinese Near Me - Hoboken, New Jersey

Great spot in hoboken, food is good and not crazy expensive. Made the food super quick too even during a busy time of day

Typical Chinese take out. I called to place an order for pick up and they told me to come in ten minutes. So I did that, but still had to wait another 15 minutes. Even so, I'd still come back if I'm craving some greasy takeout food. You can't beat the price of the lunch special ($6.50), and the portions are huge! read more

Green Garden - Chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce with vegetable fried rice, and a wonton soup - Chinese Near Me - Hoboken, New Jersey

I wasn't sure what to get from a long menu which had a decent amount of items marked as spicy. I often get ribs as a bellwether, and these weren't great. Ribs have to be pre-cooked for expediency but these were too obvious about it. The ribs and sauce merged to form a concoction that was tasty but didn't have enough of a meaty, fibery feeling. The entree was more successful. The mixed vegetables in curry sauce were fresh and crunchy. read more

I used to live a caddy corner away from Green Garden and so it was a staple for my ordering habits. Since i've moved to a different part of town, Green Garden has remained one of my 3 chinese food spots to order from in Hoboken (there's a different one depending on what dishes I want to order). A quick call to the restaurant will allow for delivery and payment by credit card over the phone; if you want to pay cash you can order directly off their website. Now on to my green garden favorites: Green Garden has the best fried chicken wings - super giant, crispy and comes with the whole wing in tact. They also provide Yi Pin hot sauce packets that just blend perfectly with the wing and makes it a few delectable bites. Totally my go-to when I want something uber fried and yummy. XO Dumplings have delightfully pillowy wrappers and the filling is so flavorful. There's choice of steamed or fried depending on your mood; my preference here is steamed. The dumpling sauce is a bit on the sweeter side to counterbalance the savory in the dumpling itself. I love their ratio of meat to vegetable in most of their dishes (think meat with broccoli, meat with string beans). Some places I'm craving more of one or the other, but Green Garden somehow seems to get it right every single time. Lunch Specials here are a great value for the American-style Chinese food- can't go wrong with a combo when you get rice, soup, and drink for one low price. If it's not lunchtime, you can still order a combo for $2 more. Bottom line, I know everyone has their "favorite" Chinese take-out spot; if you don't yet, give Green Garden a try - you can't go wrong. read more

Good Food and a great value. Finally a Chinese restaurant in Hoboken that's worth frequenting.

I ordered delivery, it arrived less than 40 minutes. The food was good, I really liked the boneless ribs and teriyaki steak. I would order from them again read more

I got food delivered from here a while back and ordered the fried chicken and a lunch special of chicken in garlic sauce. The lunch came with a large cup of soup and brown rice(or whichever rice you opt for). The portions are huge for the really low prices but I was not a fan of my chicken dish. The chicken lunch special turned out to be a veggie dish with a couple small pieces of chicken thrown in.I kept digging with my fork to find the chicken(I hate veggies) but I gave up when I realized that there wasn't any hidden chicken to find in there!Overall,my dish lacked flavour and was rather bland but the fried chicken and soup were decent. Next time I crave Chinese,I would probably opt for a different dish and skip the lunch specials if I order from here! read more

Green Garden - All this for $12! - Chinese Near Me - Hoboken, New Jersey

Got take out from here last weekend. Based on the reviews I was a little iffy on what we'd end up with. Then again, I suppose it's pretty hard to mess up sesame chicken and pork fried rice. Overall I have nothing to complain about, they served us pretty quickly and with minimal aggravation. read more

Just save your money and go to another Chinese restaurant. I ordered chicken wings and French fries and the quality of the food was just downright disappointing. The fries were burnt and literally you could just about press the grease out of them. The wings skin was super oily, kind of like they fried them before the oil was even hot. Like the only taste you're getting is hot used oil. Definitely will not be coming here again. The portions are not worth it for the price as well. 18$ for 8 rubbery wings and burnt grease fries? ‍ read more

A-OK is exactly right. The food from Green Garden was not earth shattering but it did get the job done. Delivery wasn't lighting fast, but it wasn't slow. They are not the cheapest Chinese food in town, but they certainly aren't the most expensive. If you are like me and like to vary the restaurants you order take-out from, feel free to add Green Garden to the mix. read more

Really great roasted meats, especially the various pork and duck options They open early for congee breakfast, so what I like to do is get breakfast there, and take out an assortment of roast meats for family dinner later the same day. Rice rolls also recommended! read more

Way to expensive especially during these times and the amount of food given is not worth it. I was charged $17 for pork fried rice with wings and a small lo mein. That's INSANE! read more

Fast delivery, great service! The delivery woman seemed grateful for the sale and was very kind. The fried pork dumplings were flavorful and savory. The lo mein was also delicious with a good amount of chicken. Would definitely give this place a try if you're looking for a quick bite. read more

This was possibly the worst experience we've ever had with Chinese food. I ordered eggplant with lobster, scallops and shrimp in garlic sauce. Sounded good, but it was ALL eggplant swimming in a thick, brown sauce...hardly any fish at all. To make things worse, the "lobster" was that phony sea leg stuff, but they charged lobster prices! I also asked for it extra spicy, which it wasn't at all. We also got spring rolls which were cold and limp and didn't come with any dipping sauce. Didn't eat much that night! read more

And for our next round of Hoboken Chinese food search... we are going to Green Garden. Let's review. Ordered just after 7:00 on an somewhat rainy Thursday. Delivery was promosed at 20-25 minutes, and arrived in 21 minutes. So far so good. And most of the usual suspects... Wonton Egg Drop Soup - the broth here is of the thicker variety, which is not what I am really looking for in my egg drop soup, but the wontons were doughy and chewy, which is exactly what I am looking for. For me, broth trumps wontons, so I'm not really sold on this guy. Fried Pork Dumplings - generous portion here. 8 dumplings for $5. Doughy, chewy, and tasty. Really good, and do recommend. Egg Roll - the skin on this was a bit more dense than I prefer, and less flaky compared to other places. Again, not really my cup of tea. Boneless Ribs - nice, generous portion of well sauced, tender, and slightly fatty pieces. Really good, and can't think of places in Hoboken that do it better. Pork Fried Rice - well, they certainly aren't shy with the veggies in this one. It comes with lots of bean sprouts and onions, and for the first time in pork fried rice history, brocolli! This was eh... the rice had that yellow color instead of that deep brown and reminded me of the rice from Yeung. Not worth getting, at least not for my taste. Roast Pork Lo Mein - like the rice, the veggies in this guy are alive and well. Not bad... better than some, not as good as others. Middle of the pack, totally acceptable, but not spectacular Lo Mein. Does the job. General Tsos Chicken - nice portion with just the right amount of sauce. Tasty and with some (but not too much) brocolli. Good dish, but I think Aroma does it better. Overall, from here you get speedy delivery, generous portions, and hit or miss food. The boneless ribs were the star for me, with servicable Lo Mein, General Tso's Chicken, and Fried Pork Dumplings. I'll continue my search for the best Chinese take out place in Hoboken until I find it... stay tuned for the next one! read more

This has become my go-to Chinese restaurant. I've had a number of dishes and it's all been really good. The prices and service are also good - delivery has been fast most of the time and they're friendly. They wore masks during covid, which shows they care about people's safety. Overall they're the best Chinese restaurant in Hoboken. read more

The Green Garden is always a mistake. Just because it is slightly closer to your apartment and it may be raining, just walk a few more blocks to a better Chinese Take Out Restaurant. I ordered a Large Wonton & Small BBQ Rib Tips. The soup was watery and lacked all flavor. The wontons were standard restaurant depot fare. The rib tips were mostly bone & fat. Inedible. Please go elsewhere. You've been warned. read more

Favorite Chinese food in Hoboken! Great quick service always. Best hot and sour soup I've ever had!

Cheap lunch specials if you are looking for something quick and simple. They do offer online ordering although I placed one and I guess it didnt go through on their site because they had no idea what I was talking about when I showed up to pick it up. We were not a fan of their egg rolls. read more

I have been going to this place on weekends for years. Despite the high volume of customers they get in Hoboken on Saturdays & Sundays, they always deliver in good time. The staff is very nice, the food is affordable in comparison to other restaurants in the area, and the lunch special is great portion size! Not the highest quality Chinese food out there, but if you are looking for a quick value along with good quality this is the perfect place. Highly recommend the General Tso's and egg rolls are a must. read more

I mean it isn't Chinatown NY quality Chinese food but it is a hole in the wall. On a rainy day, I somehow wound up here with my boyfriend and we got shrimp fried rice and a chicken and veggie dish. It was alright. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't extremely delish or anything. I would give them three stars except for the fact that their soy sauce packets sucked. Their soy sauce was super bland and didn't taste like anything. read more

I was a little nervous to order delivery from this place but I was pleasantly surprised! Their lunch special is such a good deal. Decently tasty with cheap prices with large quantities. All the other restaurants is the area are unreasonably priced.

We are staying at the Sheraton Lincoln Harber Hotel just across the river from nyc. We ordered dinner at The Green Garden. We had it delivered to our hotel because we were too exhausted to go out. The food is a hit or miss. Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it sucks. They never send sauce or forks or fortune cookies. They just send the food. So napkins or anything.
