Solid Chinese takeout spot in Weehawken!…read more We order from No 1 Chinese a lot, maybe once every two weeks. The food is always decent and consistent, service is usually fast, and prices are kind to the wallet. It's not going to rival some of the restaurants you'd find in Chinatown or Flushing, but it's the best option in the area. We usually get the same standard fare (some combo of: chicken with broccoli, wonton soup, veggie lo mein, pork with mixed veggies, General Tso's chicken) and we find that when we have a hankering for Chinese food, it gives us our fix.

Good American-style Chinese restaurants that charge reasonable prices are becoming harder and…read moreharder to find - this is one of the last standing. I found this spot while visiting a friend in the area and was pleasantly surprised by the fair pricing for good food, with most dishes and combinations costing less the $9. However, the portion sizes have become smaller over the last 2 years, with them ditching the traditional styrofoam platter for plastic containers that are at least 20% smaller. So far, every dish I had tasted good from General Tso's for $9 to the fried Chicken with rice for $8, and the chicken lo mein for $6. Just note that the sauce on items like General Tso's or Orange Chicken is quite sweet, but still not overwhelmingly so like other restaurants tend to be. It is not a fancy spot. There are just a few tables to dine in if you like, but I would recommend going if you don't want to eat with the occasional weirdo that stops by. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, the server taking orders did greet meet me when I entered and was short but polite. He even politely explained the total when I inquired because tax is not included in the price - for some strange reason I've had others get a little annoyed by that question. So, thumbs up on that. It is located in a busy residential area. So, if you are driving, parking is not easy to find. Your best bet is to find somewhere to temporarily pull over, then run in and grab your food. Overall, this is currently one of my few preferred Chinese spots in North Jersey. Whenever I'm in the area and want Chinese, this is the only place I trust for a tasty and decent-sized meal at a fair price.

I think I've finally found that in Union City! I ordered the Shrimp Broccoli & Garlic Sauce from their Lunch Special menu (everyday between 11am-3pm). The shrimp was super plump, there was plenty of broccoli, and the garlic sauce was not overly sweet or coated. It wasn't as garlicky as I've had at other places but it was still good. The plain fried rice had that brown tint which is always indicative of good Chinese takeout, in my opinion!! The 4pc Chicken Wings were fried well and fresh but slightly pricier than most places. Nonetheless, it made the meal feel more whole and definitely hit the spot. I would absolutely order from here again. Great try!

When I went to go pick up my food, the lady at the counter also had a really nasty attitude. She was very adamant about me using my card to pay and kept making silent comments to herself. I couldn't wait to just grab my food and get out of there. The food wasn't even that good either to be honest. The chicken was fine, but the rice had a really unpleasant aftertaste. I do not think i will be returning to this business considering how negative my experience was.

While they do have lunch specials, we ended up ordering regular sizes of our dishes for $4 more, based on reviews here that said the lunch portions were very small. We got sesame chicken, general tso chicken, vegetable lo mein, and wontons in spicy sauce (very spicy). We also wanted a couple traditional American-chinese egg rolls but they have the mini ones - they remind me more of spring rolls. We got an order of 6 but they weren't my favorite. Our tab was $76, ready for pick up in $15 minutes. I miss the days when an order like this would have cost $50 or less. While we did get two full meals out of it (lunch and leftover dinner the next day) - its still expensive for what it is... It met expectations. Everything was good - but its pretty hard to mess up the dishes we got. Funny enough, as I'm posting this, I see my last review was about 6 years ago and it was $50 for a slightly smaller order and even then I thought it was oh the pricier side! You do pay a premium for this shop vs No. 1 Chinese on Washington street. Never tried No. 1 so can't comment how much the quality differs.

I have yet to find a Chinese takeout spot that is consistent and hits the spot. Po Wong is the closest I've come to that (still not my preferred but they do the job). I got the Chicken w Broccoli which was a bit too saucy and the flavor was a bit off. The portion was solid and the chicken was cooked well, but it needed more salt and seasoning. The broccoli was fresh and tasty, but was loaded in this sauce which took away from it. The Vegetable Fried Rice is so good! Some of the best I've had and I like that their fried rice has a brown tint to it (most places I see nowadays are yellow). The Fried Yellow Banana was sweet, well-fried, and greasy. It's a nice appetizer to share and super cheap for what you're getting. There are some hits & misses on the menu. I haven't yet found the right order that is consistently good but it did the job!

The dismissive tone made it difficult to trust and feel welcomed. When I arrived in person, the attitude remained the same unfriendly, unhelpful, and clearly uninterested in customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, the food does little to make up for it. The General Tso's chicken was overly greasy and lacked flavor, the lo mein was bland and clumped together, and the fried rice tasted old. The quality did not match the price. Instead of a warm and quick meal, the food felt rushed and reheated, lacking the effort and flavor that well prepared Chinese food usually has This lack of customer service left me as a customer feeling frustrated and unvalued instead of relaxed and appreciated.
