I wanted to love this place because it's the closest thing to a traditional ramen shop (a la Ippudo, Ichiran, etc.) that DTJC has. Alas, the experience was as mixed as a controversial Sundance film. Our Muteki Wings had good texture, but were supposed to come with a yuzu miso sauce--but it didn't taste like yuzu or miso, just lots of thick sugar. My Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen was as bland as a potato salad with raisins: no spice, no umami, just a boringly unflavored broth with nice noodles. On the other hand, the Yuzu Shio Ramen was a winner and satisfied a deeply unaddressed part of my appetite that hasn't gotten a good yuzu-based broth since NYC's Mentoku Ramen closed (RIP forever and ever). I'll likely come back...but with less excitement.
Muteki Ramen in Jersey City is such a lovely little find. It's a small, cute spot tucked on a side street just off Washington, and it really feels like a cozy escape from the busier main roads. I ordered a Muteki ramen ($19) and pork buns set ($9). At first glance, the prices felt slightly high, but when you think about the location--literally a stone's throw from New York City--it's actually very reasonable. The same meal across the river would easily be close to $50, so for the area, I think it's a great value. The food itself was delicious. The broth was rich and comforting, and the pork bun was super tasty and well done. Service was excellent. My waiter was attentive, kind, and very helpful, especially since it was my first time there and I wasn't sure what to order. He made a great recommendation. The food also came out super fast, which I really appreciated. The decor is another highlight. Inside, it genuinely feels like you've been transported to Tokyo--intimate, stylish, and warm. It's the kind of place where you can just relax and enjoy your bowl of ramen. A couple of small downsides: * There's only one unisex bathroom, which can be a bit of a wait if it's busy. * Parking in the area is a bit challenging, so plan ahead if you're driving. Overall, though, I loved my experience at Muteki Ramen and would absolutely come back. Great food, great service, and a fun Tokyo-style vibe right in Jersey City.
Came here on a Friday night. I was visiting my friend and he suggested this spot. The place was crowded but luckily we didn't have to wait. We kicked it off with karaage fried chicken which was really crispy and juicy. Got an order of akashi takoyaki (octopus balls - PAUSE) which was tasty. Also got the pan-fried pork gyoza which looked really interesting, it had a nice crunch to it, I liked it a lot. For my main, I got the Muteki ramen ($19) and so good, especially the broth and pork. The presentation of the plating, even the chopsticks and service were great. I really liked this spot, and enjoyed this meal with good company. I highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for ramen. * BYOB * Street parking
This is from two different delivery orders, within a three month span. Sparkling rose water: I love the taste of rose but it was like I was licking the rose water I spray on my face Udon: Great portion of noodles, meat, and other toppings- I got it extra spicy- it comes with an egg! Volcano Ramen: The broth is amazing, but there was next to note meat or toppings and it doesn't come with an egg, it's basically all noodle- for the price tag it's not worth it.
I stopped in to get lunch. When I arrived I walked in and was greeted. I was sat and served by Kelly and Kelvin and they were nice! I ordered the Thai Green Curry Ramen. It came out in about 15 minutes. I enjoyed the ramen and it's flavors! All in all a good experience!
The ramen here really hits the spot. It's fast, delicious and they give you enough to fill you for hours. I ordered the Tonkotsu bowl with a lemon lime bomb tea drink. Came out to around $27. Pretty expensive but it's also downtown jersey city. The food was delivered in eco friendly and reusable containers. There's plenty of parking in the area and within walking distance to the light rail and bus stops. Definitely recommend this for a rainy day or if you're just in the mood for a ramen bowl.
Stuck in a hotel on a rainy and cold Saturday evening, so I used UberEats to order some ramen and dumplings. It was ahhhhhhazing! Ramen was hot and flavorful, perfect dinner for a chilly damp night watching movies! And the dumplings were to DIE for. I'm not in JC often but I totally plan on hitting this place next time I'm in town, rain or shine!
So happy that Muteki is in Jersey City now!! Finally, a Ramen and Donburi place that is delicious, fast, and affordable!! Their dine in is good, lots of seating and their takeout is also good, fast and packaged well (so important!!) Happy to come eat here anytime!!!
Food (5/5): Overall solid food with the karaage chicken and okonomoyaki being really solid dishes. I also enjoyed my Katsu curry but it could've used stronger flavors. Service (5/5): Friendly and helpful service whereby they checked up on us frequently. We were one of a few groups in the restaurant. Ambiance (4/5): Overall nice interior and I like the noodle pull display at the entrance. There's a nice homey feel to the restaurant with a bunch of great Japanese decorations.
I will admit, they have an animated bowl of ramen in the front of the store, which drew me in. However, I'm so glad I discovered this place as a result of their fun marketing strategy! I walked in on a Thursday night and there were plenty of tables. We were seated immediately. To start off with, we got the Kaarage Fried Chicken. This was crispy and juicy, all in one bite. I also really liked the sauce they drizzled on the top. For a drink, my fiance got the Thai Iced Tea. The presentation was so cute and he got to pour in the milk himself! Very fun and creative. For our mains, we got the Miso Ramen and Braised Minced Pork Don. The Miso Ramen broth was perfect and there was a wonderful balance of toppings. The pork was soft and this was exactly what I was craving. The Braised Minced Pork Don was a hearty serving with an incredible quantity of pork, rice, and vegetables. All to say, I was very pleased and think this is going to become a staple resturant for my family!

More impressed by the service than the food. Our server (younger gentlemen) was running around waiting tables by himself. Despite how busy he was he was very friendly, checked in on us, absolutely very polite the whole time. Ambiance: the layout and decorations are well laid out. The front has a unique decoration as well. Food: prices are reasonable but I was expecting more. Milk tea boba: large size, boba was well done texture wise, astronomically sweet tea though. I would recommend asking for less sweetness Karaage buns: chicken was fried well, the sauce is mild, and their name seared onto the buns, the bun was soft, overall enjoyed it but would've liked a little stronger flavor Muteki ramen: the noodles itself were very well done, I would've enjoyed a stronger broth and more flavorful meat (both the Chau's pork and chicken). I found it more on the blander side. For the price it's not bad but I've enjoyed better ramen Food: 4/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 5/5
Came here on a whim for some ramen on a brisk Sunday evening. Dining area is fairly simple. Mostly minimal frills of sorts with no alcohol served and the decor mostly simple. That allows the food to be the main event. We split the vegetable gyoza while we each ordered our ramen. The gyoza was very tasty and interestingly decorated. For one, it looks like a crepe is covering the dumplings. The batter reminded me of an Indian dosa. But super tasty. I got the veggie creamy ramen. It was very yummy. Great service, super fast food delivery and accommodating with extra sauces and spices. The food was fresh and delicious. The karage don bowl was perfect. This is my go to ramen place near work in Jersey City. Service is always fast and they have a wide selection of different flavors of ramen to choose from. I like to try different ones just for the variety. Haven't found one I don't like yet! read more

My friends and I came to this place in the evening. There were plenty of seats and not that busy. The decorations were super cute and I love the vibe. The servers constantly checked up on us and kept filling our glasses with water. The food were really good too. We got karaage an appetizer. It was was crispy and flavorful. I got the volcano ramen and it wasn't that spicy. The flavor was good and the portion was generous. I might come back again. read more

If you've ever been to the Museum Of Ramen in Yokohama, Japan, then you'll recognize the iconic machine that has a pair of chopsticks bouncing up and down in a fake bowl of ramen! This place usually doesn't have a long line and is a very chill place to get a satisfying bowl of ramen. I am a big fan of yuzu, so I got the yuzu shio ramen with a grilled lemon and chicken. The egg is on point and the yolk is runny. It's very refreshing after a night out and very hydrating with that citrus and salt soup. The noodles are Q and very chewy. Fried chicken is pretty standard, juicy and crispy. I got the gyoza another time, and the way they fry it is pretty cool. They have a "dumpling skirt" which is like extra skin that is super crispy. They have a lot of interesting flavors, so I'd definitely come back to try them all read more
Great ramen choices in Jersey City!! I love that this spot opened up in downtown JC. Parking can be a bit tricky, but we were able to get a spot a block away. This location has plenty of seating, and I appreciate the variety of choices. The servers are quick and attentive. As far as beverages, it is by order although I was too embarrassed to ask for additional hot water for my tea. I got the black tonkatsu and my hubby got the volcano miso ramen. I was honestly torn between a 3 & 4, so gave benefit of the doubt given the huge to go business I saw they had. The decor is really cool and the staff all very friendly. We had edamame, volcano miso ramen and pork katsu curry. The edamame was very flavorful and was a huge serving portion...just right amount of spice. Volcano miso ramen had a mild kick but was disappointed in the really small amount of pork in the dish. Pork katsu was a huge portion, but the cut of pork had some very tough pieces of gristle in it. The curry was decent...wish it had a little more spice. Serving portions were great. If we lived here I think we'd probably make this a once a month or two place as it was a good change but not necessarily a "wow" effect. read more
Finally, another ramen spot in Jersey City! I went several months back and it looked like they just had a grand opening since balloons and banners were still up. We came on a weekend for lunch and was pretty packed but the two of us were seated immediately. We ordered the tempura buns and they were super fresh with great flavor in the sauces they used. My boyfriend got the chicken katsu which he enjoyed. I ordered the black tonkotsu ramen which came with thin noodles. I'm generally a big fan of wavy noodles and wanted to try something different, but think my preference still stands. It was still worth a try though! Will def be back to try other things on their extensive menu. read more
Ordered 3 items to go, 2 ramen (volcano miso and black tonkotsu) and karaage buns. Overall, solid meal, except for the bun. Both ramens delivered on flavor through the broth. The pork bellies were tender but they would be better if they were glazed/torched more. I ate the karaage bun a little too late so it was not crispy by then. However, there karage portion was tiny so it's not too satisfying. read more
Wow so happy I was craving ramen and found this place that recently opened! And it's so close to where I live. I've been struggling to find a good ramen spot since I've moved here. The restaurant decor was nice and clean. Servers were very friendly and food came out quickly. The server recommended the fried chicken for appetizer and it was a great recommendation. The chicken was super hot and fresh. It was also crispy and the sweet sauce on top was delicious. I ordered a spicy tonkatsu ramen. It wasn't deathly spicy but it definitely had a kick. The flavor was good. I didn't realize the noodles weren't wavy which was my mistake because it said it in the description. I prefer wavy noodles and will try that next time. The pork was so delicious I could eat 20 more slices (tender, juicy). They do not serve alcohol here (maybe in the future). I do hope they expand their drink selection! read more

I feel like Muteki Ramen in Jersey City opened with very little fanfare. I heard all about their location in Hoboken, but didn't realize this JC outpost opened a year ago. I'd call it one of downtown's best kept secrets, but even without the announcements, this place is thriving. I'm really hoping they become a mainstay in the local dining scene. So, shortly after finding out about Muteki, I convinced my boyfriend to come with me here for dinner. Even though it had been raining all day, they were still packed. The inside is a little tiny, but they do an amazing job with the decor and table placements. I'd say it's a great spot if you're with a crew of five or less. Our waitress seemed a little new, but very knowledgeable and took our order right away. We also found out it's byob, so prep yourself for that (there's a liquor store around the corner) We started out with the purple potato tempura fries (delicious) and the karaage fried chicken (also delicious). Both were great serving sizes for two people. We both got ramen as our main course and it was amazing. I feel blasphemous for saying this, but the ramen was on-par with Miso (my previous fav ramen place in JC) and way more expansive. Their ramen selection is gives you the full breadth of pork, chicken, seafood, and veggie options, they don't skimp on toppings (Ani does) and the broth is perfect. I get the feeling that as the weather gets colder, Muteki is going to become a bigger go-to in my dinner choices. read more
My local go-to when I want solid ramen. I feel good when I finish a bowl of their yuzu chicken ramen, their vegetarian ramen or their seafood ramen . The broth is fulfilling and flavorful without feeling unhealthily greasy . The noodles are cooked to a good texture and the toppings are well assembled and selected. For appetitizers, their karage Bao, their karage, or fried oyster are also delicious. We also get seated right away and the staff are attentive so we are rarely left waiting. read more
Great ramen spot in JC. Never had a vegan ramen as creamy as the one from Muteki. I ordered the vegetarian creamy ramen for pick up and it is one of the most flavorful veg ramen I've had. The broth is super rich and flavorful and the noodles have the perfect amount of chew. I also like how generous they are with the toppings. The restaurant wasn't super packed when I went to pick up my food, but it seems like a nice spot to dine in. The staff are very attentive and helpful. Will definitely head back here in the future when I'm craving some ramen, especially as we head into the fall season and the weather gets chillier. The damage: around $20 (plus tip and tax) read more

Such a welcome addition to the area--best ramen in downtown Jersey City for sure, and the best chashu (yakibuta) I've had in years. We love the: + Yakibuta Don ($13): Melt-in-your-mouth braised pork belly over rice with half a marinated egg, seaweed salad, pickled carrots and radish, and spinach. I don't normally eat fatty meat (I'm weirded out by the texture) but this is so melty that I don't mind it when mixed with the rice. Definitely the top pick for both me and my toddler. + Chashu Pork Buns ($8): Two fluffy buns filled with the same melty chashu as mentioned above and paired with crunchy shredded cabbage in a mayo dressing. + Miso Ramen ($16): This was what I ordered on our first visit. An absolutely solid ramen with a full suite of toppings--chashu, bean sprouts, spinach, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo, corn, egg, fish cake, nori--but the star was the chashu. (Can you tell I love their chashu?) I did find the broth a tad salty and prefer the yakibuta don. + Maze-men Dry Ramen ($15): This was my husband's pick. He said the flavor was good (but did lean salty), and he liked the noodle texture and all the toppings, and he would order it again. They also have a giant bowl of mechanical ramen out front, which was a fun bonus for keeping our toddler entertained. read more
New ramen restaurant in JC that is beautiful with alright food but unfortunately I had a poor experience. Restaurant was near empty when we arrived. We ordered the karaage as an app and the miso volcano ramen and unagidon. App came immediately which was questionable...but it was great. Good breading and tender chicken with a nice Thai sauce. Then came the unagidon which was a good portion. After about 15-20 mins with no one checking on us, I realized two other tables getting their ramen before me so I called for a waiter. Apparently they forgot the order and asking if I really ordered it saying it's not in the system. I jest, saying no I'm just sitting here without an entree and looking at the other person eat for fun. Imagine making a mistake and trying to blame it on the customer. Management needs to do a better job addressing issues. The ramen was reasonable, a little more salty than spicy. The noodle felt undercooked with a rough chew. They do give generous toppings which I appreciated. I was hoping this ramen restaurant would be the "one" in JC but it fell short. read more
