Chicken Karage (Japanese Fried Chicken) 4pc with ramen

Chicken karate with ramen. Chicken was so juicy and crispy. Ramen hit the spot as well.

Solid place for ramen! They have a huge, open space with lots of seating. You order at the counter and then pick up your food when they call your number. Although it's self-serve, the restaurant still has an elegant feel to it. Shrimp tempura ramen and tonkotsu ramen were both delicious. The broth was very flavorful, and the noodle texture was amazing. It was filling, but I would have liked it to have bigger portions considering the price.

Very satisfying ramen made using store-made noodles. Cost-wise Menya Sandaime is pretty expensive, but it is definitely worth at least one visit. Location: Located across the street from Newport Center and minutes away from the Newport Path station, Menya Sandaime is centrally located and easy to access for people living in Jersey City or Newport. Food: I order the Tonkotsu ramen - the Tonkotsu ramen came in a large bowl and contained the ramen, broth, a few pieces of chashu pork, the boiled egg and several pieces of spinach. Although not a traditional ramen ingredient, the spinach added a lot of color to the ramen and much-needed vegetables to the dish. The tonkotsu ramen broth and noodles were both very satisfying. Overall, I thought the tonkotsu ramen was definitely better than what I would expect for a small, local ramen store, and it definitely rivals the flavors I have tasted at larger name brands, like Ippudo. Service: The service was good enough in my book, especially for a ramen restaurant. Cost: The ramen and a bottle of green tea came to around $20. Because of this, I must admit that Menya Sandaime is a little steep for your dollar. Verdict: Worth a visit for the ramen made with store-made noodles.

I think this is definitely more of a lunch place because when I came for a weekday dinner, there was essentially no one there. I was kind of weirded out on how dirty the place was but never mind that. Essentially you order at the counter and then they'll call your number out and you get the ramen yourself. - Tonkotsu Ramen - Honestly, very disappointing ramen. The broth was very heavy and dense and the noodles seemed like they were out of a ramen packet that you can buy from an Asian supermarket. I did appreciate the thick cut pork belly slices but they were also kind of heavy as well. I was confused about the vegetables they put on top as they seemed kind of like a salad for the ramen. - Gyoza - But why was this the best thing there? I haven't had gyoza for awhile, so I decided to order it and it was honestly so good. The crispy and oily dough that barely touches the grill is my favorite. The filling was incredibly juicy and when you bit into it, it's like drinking soup. If I had to come back, maybe I would just order gyoza haha. - Karage - Their karage is pretty dang good. They give you a ton of pieces in each order (if you order large) and the outside is very crispy while the inside of the chicken is very tender. I like when you can "peel" the chicken bit by bit and you can do just that with this karage. Not quite sure about the cabbage they had on the side that wasn't pickled, but overall very good dish. Overall, it's a very okay ramen place - good for a quick lunch, not great if you're trying to indulge for dinner. Would come back for the gyoza but the ramen is quite atypical.

This is the WORST ramen I ever had!! Never saw anywhere else put carrots in miso ramen, baboon shoots taste very weird, worst thing is, this is not the right type of ramen for miso ramen. Plz do NOT go, waste of your money and your time!!

Went for Lunch Food - 5/5. Ramen noodles had wonderful texture with just the right amount of springiness in every bite. Broth was rich in pork flavor yet very light with a thin consistency. Vegetables added a refreshing freshness and the pork was meaty with fantastic charring. Bun was soft with the same delicious pork that was in the ramen. The meat to bun ratio was great and the sauce added a nice kick to liven up the taste. Service - 4/5. Friendly and quick. Value - 5/5. The ramen's portion is great and comes with two fat slabs of pork. Buns were of good size as well. Prices are very fair with the basic tonkotsu being $11.50 and buns being $4 a piece. Parking - Street (Metered)

This place is a lot better for dine in than takeout. However, the prices are Manhattan prices and the food is just ok so no wonder this place is always empty. They do have very nice workers but the quality in food is just lacking for how over priced it is.

Holy Ramen deliciousness! I really didn't expect much and was pleasantly surprised. Walk up to the counter and place your order then sit and wait about 10 minutes for your order number to be called, then walk back up to the counter and retrieve your giant bowl of deliciousness! I ordered the Veggie Miso Ramen (one of the three vegetarian selections). I also requested for them to make it spicy. When I walked back to the counter after hearing my order number shouted out I was surprised to see it sitting on a tray in an authentic ceramic ramen bowl and not a plastic container. The first thing that hit me as I sunk my chopsticks to the bottom of the bowl to fish out some noodles was the amazing aroma which was a real treat on a bitter cold day. The noodles were done perfectly, slightly chewy and delicious. Next, I scooped up some broth in the black plastic ladle that was resting in my bowl and took a sip. I was immediately hooked! I tasted such a great variety of flavors...sesame, miso, cabbage, onions...amazing. The soup also contained a lot of veggies that were still crisp. All this for $13. My friend ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen which was a traditional pork broth with pork belly. He said it was one of the best he's had. It seems we have a long winter ahead and with a 10 minute brisk walk from my office I have a feeling I will be coming back often. If only it was easier to remember the name of this place :)

I had take out here recently with a few family members that visited. I usually like noodles that are made in house but this one in particular does not give that nice chewy and bouncy texture that you would expect from ramen. This noodle resembles more like somen noodles. The broth was decent, not bad but not worth bragging about either. The pork slices are really good. I would most likely not visit this place again as there are many ramen shops within short driving distance that offers better ramen.

Karakuchi ramen (spicy tonkatsu broth, spinach, sprouts, egg, grilled pork belly)

Not far away from Newark Ave's dueling ramen spots (Miso Ramen and Ani Ramen), Menya Sandaime offers up counter service bowls of noodles and rice dishes. I walked in on a Friday evening and nabbed a bowl of karakuchi (spicy pork broth), an order of gyoza, and some green tea. The food was prepped quickly and came out steaming hot. The gyoza had a nicely crisp crust, but the filling could've used more assertive seasoning. The same held true of the ramen: while the noodles were fantastic and the ingredients were well prepared (this bowl came with spinach, sprouts, a marinated egg, and a thick strip of grilled pork belly)...the broth had little flavour. Splashing on some sesame oil helped, though.

Finally tried this place today, ordered numbe 1 tonkotsu ramen. Not the best ramen I had, but it's good. I love the noodle, I think they make their own noodle, you could see the machine on the right hand side when you walked in. Ramen came with 3 thick slice of pork belly, and raw spinach, and scallion. Both broth and the pork belly need more seasoning in my opinion, need to be improve I love the how spacious this place is, and how it's self served, it's great place to have easy and quick lunch.

Delicious Chicken Teriyaki Don Rice Bowl

This is a great new ramen and rice bowl spot. I've been here a few times already to eat and I think the best part is the speed of the food getting pumped out. This is the fast food equivalent of a ramen place while still maintaining a good consistency. The menu is very limited which is why I think they are able to pump out the food so quickly. Place is brand new so It is extremely clean and tastefully decorated. Staff is very friendly as well. So far I've had the spicy Karakuchi Ramen with shrimp ($11.50) , the chicken teriyaki rice bowl ($9.50) , and the marinated steak rice bowl ($9.50). So far my favorite is the chicken teriyaki rice bowl and I still plan on trying the other ramen bowls. The ramen bowl I had was good but didn't blow me away, and extremely spicy which I liked a lot. Could be a little more flavorful with the broth but overall I'm a fan. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are worth it. Only downside for me is that the ramen bowls come with either pork belly or shrimp. I would love It if they made a chicken option with the ramen bowls and not just the rice bowl. There are vegetarian options here too which is good. Definitely a must try spot.

I really like their thick noodles! I ordered it as a delivery and their packaging was done property so that noodles stayed fresh. Their shoyu broth was a little too on the sweet side but overall pretty good. I would order again!

OVERALL I was happy to finally have my first ramen experience in Jersey City at Miso Ramen and would consider another visit to try more of their menu. I wouldn't say their ramen was on-par with what I've had in Los Angeles and Japan, but it was good with nothing else to compare to in the area. The menu had enough options, the prices were comparable, we enjoyed the food, and the service was adequate. And, whenever possible I liked to support small family-owned and/or local businesses. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $53.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip).
