Love this new grocery boutique in Logan Square!! They stock an amazing variety of fresh and packaged foods and a great assortment of drinks and spirits. I've visited this Logan Square location several times and it always satisfies. Their beet salad is out of this world! I met one of the owners who said they have fun events planned for the future and they strive to provide the products that people want. They even sell some items at a loss to help customers out, due to inflationary prices. I highly recommend shopping at this store!! read more

I'm a fan of this place. It tends to be on the pricey side for a neighborhood convenience store (compared to another convenience store up to street on Wood), but it is much cleaner and better lit (so maybe that justifies the price?). They have a large inventory and well stocked shelves and a lot of unique foods to try. Also, during the COVID pandemic, they were one of the only places that was stocked in Lysol Wipes (huge news!). They are taking adequate precautions during this pandemic, requiring universal masking for patrons and employees, and they have a plexiglass screen at the cashier. They are well stocked in wine and beer and spirits. They even have a small prepared food section with some fresh produce. The only real downside is the price, but for the location, convenience, and the friendliness of the staff, it can be worth it when you're in a pinch. read more

I. Heart. This. Place. A lot! Why? First of all, because it's an adorable little market. It's well cared for, they've got a little bit of everything, and the stuff they offer is quality. Four stars instead of five because of the price (but I do understand the need for mark-ups with small, independent stores. Carry on, W. Carry on.) Second, I always seem to find something new to try when I'm in there. Their stock is kind of like... I don't know... like peering into a cabinet of curiosities. 12:45 pm. 9/12/2020 have just left the Go Grocer on 2060 North avenue in Wicker Park and am so upset at the incredibly rude treatment I received from the woman at the register. I asked her if I could place 3 small items on the counter while I shopped for wine, she said yes and I went to the back of the store to shop. She then began to speak in a very loud voice telling her coworker how stupid and rude I was for not using a shopping basket and for putting my things on the counter. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I was the only person in the store so I knew she was talking about me. I was so shocked and upset , I paid and left the store. When this place opened I was super excited. Were you one of the people who moved to Chicago and asked someone where the nearest co-op was and was openly mocked? I was. This place is the closest approximation to a bona fide co-op that I've found in the neighborhood. Especially since Sunflower closed. This place is small and likely only convenient for the people who live in the apartment buildings down the street. There's no parking close by (and the street fills up quickly) and the selection in here is pretty small. The quality of the food here is good, which others have mentioned, but the pricing structure here is BONKERS. I'm not sure how one decides the value of certain frozen goods or fresh fruits that are literally 50-75% less in other places, but some of the stuff is just nuts overpriced. The selection of craft beers is great and there's a lot of wine, including selections that are in the $10-$20 range. I don't make it a point to come here unless I happen to be driving by, but this definitely isn't a place I could afford to stop in everyday to buy groceries or supplies. read more

Since the move I feel distant and out of love with W Grocer -- the new products are so over the top and expensive and just don't seem worth it anymore. And lets not forget that Olivia's is literally a two minute walk away. They have the same products (for less!!,, check it for yourself) and the store has such a better vibe with the beautiful fresh cut flowers and laid back layout. Great location, poor most everything else. Expect to pay 2-3x more than whole foods, which is maybe a mile away, and at least 4x jewel prices, which is barely a 10 minute walk from the train. Some of their selection prices are strange - lots of organics but whole grains are hard to find. They have Upton's natural, which I loooove, but at a $2 premium. Beer and wine selection is great, if you don't mind paying extra for the convenience, and nothing special compared to my favourite Bodega Ramos in Lincoln Park. My experience with service has been pretty mediocre - pretentious and not very helpful. When I'm exhausted and don't have time for anything else, I stop here to pick up just a few things. If you're a vegan, you will love this place. Many options for you. As far as price goes, I don't know what's expensive and inexpensive for vegan-y products but something tells me that the range here is either right on the money or a bit much. Why? Because other items in this place are way overpriced. 2.99 for a can of coconut milk? No thanks. They have organic goods though as well as things you wouldn't see in your typical grocery store so props for that, I suppose. It's also right off the blue line (Damen stop) so it's a convenient place to stop after work should you get off in Wicker Park. The main reason I would go back here -- their beer selection. Pretty dynamite. Both mainstream (less in this department but still more than just one to choose from) and craft (tons of this). Win-win for all! Oh, and one more thing. When you get to the register, the register screen displays bus times for the #72 (North Ave. bus). Pretty nifty. Think about everything that is great about small business. You know, having a personal relationship with a business and dedicated customer service. Now imagine the opposite... that is Go Grocer. I have worked down the street from Go Grocer for about 3 years. I very much wanted them to be my go to spot for coffee beans and healthy, quick lunches, but the amount of hoops I go through just to buy food there is bizarre. And I am finally fed up enough to write this review. 1. The store policy is to require a picture ID. Even with a debit card. Even if they know you because you are a regular customer. I ran out of the office to grab a salad, walked the three blocks, and got to the store with only my debit card in my pocket. I could provide my PIN number to authenticate my debit card purchase and on top of that the clerk knew me by name. It didn't matter... my purchase was REFUSED because I didn't have my ID on me. When I complained the clerk called the owner on his cell, Greg, and put me on the phone with him. Greg reiterated the policy and refused my payment. I left the $16 worth of salad sitting on the counter. I thought this was a convenience store, no? Beyond the inconvenience, this is against Visa's own policies that say "Supplemental ID or Information: U.S. merchants may not refuse to honor a Visa card simply because the cardholder refuses a request for supplementary information or Identification." So I have filed a complaint directly with Visa. 2. Beyond ID, I have been refused coffee purchases before because they used to keep the coffee bean grinder in the back of the store. If there was only one clerk at the store, they were unable to leave the front of the store unattended o grind the beans so they would just tell me, sorry we can't grind your beans today try again some other time. To that my non-coffeed self responded with the appropriate amount of vitriol. After 2 years of complaining, they have finally moved the grinder to the front of the store. Oh happy day, I can finally be reasonably assured that I can buy coffee when I come into your store to buy coffee. 3. The store manager is the ONLY helpful person I have ever encountered at that store. The store manager is nice and attentive and quick to respond to requests. Everyone else there acts like they are walking around in their own universe. I once bought two bags of coffee beans; I needed both bags ground. I paid for my purchase and the clerk ground the first bag. Then he literally just walked away and went back to restocking shelves. He didn't hand me the first bag or say anything or give any indication that he was coming back. He put the one bag of ground beans on the counter right next to the bag of unground beans and then walked away. The manager saw it happen, instantly dawned a look of frustration, and rushed over to finish the second bag. So in summary, after years of putting up with being turned away from making purchases, mild irritations, inflated prices, and underwhelming customer service I am finally done. This is the new and expanded location of W Crossings, which closed with the opening of W Grocer. The store has a nice set up and a wide variety of items. You can buy anything from Panko breading to specialty chocolates to organic salsa to grapes to deli meat. Yes yes yes. All of that could be yours for a price . . .a heftily inflated price. Obviously W Grocer is a winner in terms of convenience. Much easier to walk over to W Grocer to restock our soy milk than drive to Costco. But, you end up paying for this convenience. You can get 3 times the amount of soy milk at Costco for what you pay at W Grocer. But, I guess W Grocer is as good a place as any to buy items you might not want a ton of. And let's be honest, as much as I might prickle at their prices, W Grocer will probably always be where we go to restock our beer and mixers. And I'm okay with that. read more

I value W Grocer both as a great neighborhood presence, and as a great place to pick up the last minute bottle of wine or random pantry/freezer item when on the way home from up the street. I can't honestly say I make regular visits and as such don't know the guys on a first name basis - nay, not even on a face basis... While high end, high quality and most assuredly organic, the pricing here is michael jackson style off the wall: We're talking choosing between a nine pack of Charmin or a single roll of Seventh Generation. THAT'S what you'll pay for toilet paper here. Granted, they're a small store and not a chain, so they don't get the bulk discounts to pass on to customers like the larger competition who are able to, but geez guys, bring things down just a little bit more and maybe I'll buy things more often (Chicago Soy Dairy's Teese Cheese goes for a good bit more here than anywhere else for example). They're nice folks and they're running a great store, but it's literally an upscale convenience store - no more and no less. This place is just a few blocks from my apartment, and therein lies the bulk of the stars in this rating. It definitely functions more as an auxiliary grocery store since it is on the pricey side. You buy all your staples at Strack and Van Til and head over to W Grocer for like, a tomato or a loaf of crusty bread that you didn't know you needed two days later. I have gone there a few times to purchase only eggs and beer. There is an extensive beer and wine selection for your imbibing needs as well, and I've enjoyed many a bottled microbrew from here. W Crossings is good for picking up couple of essential ingredients on the way home from work, but not good for any sort of extended grocery shopping. It's Whole Foods divided by 95 in size and selection, and multiplied by 1.5 in price. Or something like that. I dropped in to buy peanut butter. They had 4 or 5 different options for natural peanut butter, which ranged in price from $4.99 to $8.99. They also had Jif, which cost slightly less. They had a small selection of fruits and veggies, meat, cereal, ready-made boxes or cans, frozen food, and other essentials. And, they carry a lot of the fancy organic/natural/healthy brands that Whole Foods carries. Good selection of liquor and beer, though none of it seemed particular cheap. read more

The store is just OK but my negative review is based on the fact that my friend purchased gift cards from the store for me and the store will not honor them. I've gone to the store multiple times and each time I'm told that the "machine" is down and that I can't redeem the card. I was given the owner's email address and sent an email explaining the situation and I wasn't surprised that I didn't receive a reply. Despite the fact that these places are springing up everywhere, WGrocer or the artist formally known as WCrossing, has been around for awhile. This place has a solid selection of micro brews & wine. If you live in the area, as some of my friends do, I imagine this place is pretty clutch when it comes to groceries. Over the summer, we were in a pinch and needed some cilantro. We actually took bets as to whether or not Wgrocer would have it. I LOST. They totally did! As you see, you'll find some produce, cheeses, brats, boars head, chips (mmmm KETTLE!!), etc. They even carry Vosages . Now, I must subtract 1 star. 1. You are expensive. 2. Summary: stay away from their refrigerated foods, which are prone to spoilage I live a block from here, so it's convenient for last minute produce. Here's my problem with them: both times I've bought items from their refrigerated section, the food had gone bad. First, it was a gallon of milk. There was a week left until the expiration date written on it and put it in my refrigerator 5 minutes after buying it. 24 hours later, it was sour. Second, it was some chicken breasts. I brought them home and opened them immediately to cook. They smelled really off so I threw them away. Luckily, I had some frozen chicken I could thaw. The kicker is that I paid an arm and a leg for this rotten food since the prices are so high at this place. This has never happened to me at either a big chain grocery store or a farmer's market, and yet this place is 2 for 2. Maybe they need to turn down the temperature on their refrigerators. To be fair, they might have been willing to give me refunds if I had tried, but I'd rather not be in these situations in the first place. read more

Basically you pay (out the a**) for convenience and some food items that you'd otherwise have to go to Whole Foods or Trader Joes to get. A little more expensive than your normal joints but the service is much better. ex: I bought a half a melon cut and cleaned about a week back. This is like a tiny, really expensive Whole Foods. But they do have 50% select wines now and then, which is how I took home 3 bottles of wine for $15 but also 4 apples and 2 onions for $6. They're getting to have a bigger selection of cheese and dairy products in addition to their small produce section. Lots of soy products and yogurt but not a total grocery store replacement if you're cooking and in a pinch. There's a deli in the back and a huge wine and spirits collection.
