Yes, definitely a little pricey. Always close though, and never too far away. W Grocer is my go-to spot for late night snacks, various gourmet/vegetarian food goods, and CHOCOLATE. The staff is pretty great as well, ready to share recipes and talk to you about how to make a jar of pasta sauce last you up to 4-5 meals. Sweeeet. Man I love W Grocer. They have an incredible wine selection, even harder to find things like lambics and the best moscato d'asti brand there is (Saracco)! I think I empty their stock each time I go because it's so tasty and a nice gift to give. This place is a good grocer to find organic processed food (that sounds weird, but basically cereals, snacks, etc), WINE, if you didn't catch that yet, and everything to go with your wine (cheese, fruit, etc). If you're looking for a grocer that sells everything, this isn't the place. It's more of a specialty shop. If you're having friends over and you need some food to entertain with, this is the place to go. Also, on a side note, all of their wines shelves have tags detailing the flavors of each wine, so for someone who doesn't know what flavors and notes and overall taste will be in a wine just by looking at it, it's a great thing to have. read more

I love this place because it is right across the street from my place thus making it very convenient for picking up a couple things instead of going to Jewel or other big name grocery store. I like that they carry mostly gourmet items and wholesome foods along with the basics. They also have a great beer and wine selection and at the deli in the back you can pick up fresh deli meat and cheese. The only drawback is that it is much more expensive since it just a little neighborhood grocery store. But it is very convenient and I love having it nearby. read more

Cute shop and huge selection of craft beers- many I have never heard of. On a Friday night they were offering wine tastings and have a frequent buyer punch card you can eventually use for a free bottle of wine. read more

Great little grocery store in Wicker Park. As a guy its great, because they have wine, cheese, crackers.... perfect stuff for a last minute date in case you were lazy and didn't get everything you need. Great beer and wine selection. Tons of quick, cheap, really good tasting stuff. The guys that work there always seen to be friendly and cool. read more

Cute little neighborhood grocery store. For the size of the place, they certainly pack it in. The ethnic foods selection is pretty good. As a transplant from NY, one thing I miss are bodegas located on every other corner. Chicago just doesn't have a bodega culture, but W Grocer is kind of a bodega. It has a tremendous selection of really nice foods as well as a solid beer, wine and liquor selection. You definitely pay for convenience at this place. Wines that you can find at Binny's for $9 cost ~$15 here, but if you're in the neighborhood and heading over to someone's place and don't want to show up empty handed this is a great place to hit up. read more

The staff is great. They are very friendly, down to earth, and helpful. Go Grocer provides a limited amount of grocery staples that are overpriced; however, this place really shines with their prepared foods and craft beer/wine/liquor selection. They deserve special recognition for their handling of the recent release of Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout. read more

This place is called Go Grocer now, and they're awesome Lots of healthy, gluten free groceries and gourmet goodies, some stuff you can't even find at Whole Foods! They carried the Masala Cobra corn before any other store I have ever been to, I love that they are constantly getting new stuff for customers to try. The staff is super helpful, they actually give good advice on items in the store because they enjoy eating the stuff themselves. They have a huge booze section too, my bff is a beer snob and she loves going there and trying new brews. I visit the store several times a week when I'm not traveling, if you are in the Wicker Park area you have to check them out. read more

Lots of organic and vegan; hold that...Mostly Organic and Vegan! Fresh Produce and a deli. Small store that packs in a lot of Merch. The wine selections is a large portion of the store and it is ever changing(luv that). Tons of crafted beer and also they have hard booze. Lots of snacky chocolately stuff(again organic and vegan prevail). Top it off, they are open until 1 on Friday and Saturday. Love this place, but Do NOT expect discount prices. read more

I like this place but you definitely pay for the convenience. Need an onion or a canned food item but don't feel like running to the actual store? Just tack on about $2 for the convenience fee. However, the beer and wine selection is pretty great so I can't complain too much. read more

Wow, the prices in food were shocking. Walked out with a $5 for a box of cereal, $4 for a small amount of about-to-expire spinach, and also a nice gallon of rotten milk. I'm seriously upset that I spent money here, guess I was desperate. I just couldn't help but realize that this place embodies all the reasons people are annoyed about Wicker Park. read more

This place is great. Overpriced, but great selection of yummy, healthy things. On my way home from a run, armed with just my debit card, I went to pick up a few things. Total was less than $20. As I was on a run, and just had my debit card, I did not have ID. The employee was very nice and apologetic, but said it was a new policy and they needed ID for every card. He was serious. Weird. Overpriced groceries that are often of poor quality. I end up at the W grocer fairly often as it is on my walk home from the train, yet every time I go I end up frustrated by the prices and disappointed by the quality of the produce or packaged food that pushes expiration dates to the limit. I want to give it the benefit of the doubt and say that it's due to its small size and that it's not a national chain, yet Olivia's Market - 5 minutes away - is the same size and has much better quality of food and similar if not cheaper prices. My go to neighbor for anything I need last minute. Which is usually ice cream or booze. Nice selection of alcohol but the ice cream/sorbet/gelato section gets hit pretty hard and is not always readily restocked. The workers are very nice. Great stop for Gatorade after a long night. read more

Easily the most overpriced grocery store in the area, and the food selection is limited, at best. The alcohol selection is reasonable, but again, overpriced. Jewel, Dominicks, Stanley's, and Aldi are all within two miles. I'll go to anyone of those stores before considering W, even though W is closest to me. read more

This grocer is a complete rip off. WAY WAY over priced even for last second items it's a joke. Liquor is over priced buy as much as $3.00 to $4.00 on a six pack of beer. Produce never looks too good . What a shame this neighborhood should have a local grocer with reasonable prices but for the moment this place just wants to rob the good people of the neighborhood. I will say this again ANYBODY that shop at W GROCER NEEDS TO HAVE THERE HEAD EXAMINED. SERIOUSLY OVERPRICED. read more
