Jaz did an awesome job on my pedi! The vibe is busy but chill. The drink was great, I got the tequila sunrise after asking for one. I had a design in mind so but it was only one nail tech available that did design. I had no problem waiting! Once she finished neither of us like the design so I told her maybe we could try another one. I finally decided, nope I'll just get them all one solid color. Bad disappointment! So they had to drill off the color of all the other nails and repolish them. The 2 stars comes from them charging me for length 10.00. I visited the Highland location of Gloss Nail Bar today right after they opened so they wouldn't be too busy and rushed, which they weren't. I have been coming here for a few years now since moving into the neighborhood. I have noticed a change in staff recently which isn't a huge concern as long as the new staff knows what they are doing. I always get the same thing done with exception to design difference. I get my nails done in dip and sometimes a design and sometimes just plain dip. Today I requested a dip with a design and a manicure. The manicure you couldn't call a manicure of any sorts! After taking off my old dip my hands were dried and he used the tool on my dry hands to push back my cuticles. That was the end of my manicure, period!! I was charged for that! Good thing he didn't try cutting them as that wouldn't have worked at all since they were dry and didn't push back at all because they didn't move. I have never and I mean never had such a horrible experience that someone called a manicure before. Then we get to the dip which actually went very well. I was surprised but pleased to see that the dip was applied correctly and cleanly. I wish I could say as much for the design. I have posted pictures of the design I asked for and the design I got. The design I asked for seems pretty simple to do, a few lines and then a few dots. I showed him the design before he got started with the dip process so if there was an issue he should have raised it then. I would have been ok with him telling me he couldn't do it, I would have left my nails plain or he could have used a sticker but don't stay silent and then do my nails and leave them looking like this! When he was "done" he put some cuticle oil on my nails but no lotion on my hands to finish the "manicure" I had supposedly gotten. He was up and out of his chair and headed to the front to put my information into the computer and get me out of there. I didn't even have time to say anything to him about my nails. I was going to say something to the "manager" but he was on a call when I got to the front desk to pay my bill. The guy that did my nails had already put my information into the system but I had a $15 credit I wanted to use and the "manager" said "oh he already charged you" meaning he was to lazy to redo the charge, which I hadn't swiped my card yet so I don't see what the big deal was. This was by far the WORST experience I have ever had at Gloss although I have been noticing the service going down in the past few months. It seems as though it's time to find another nail place which makes me sad since this nail salon is so convenient, has great hours and decent prices but at the end of the day this is unacceptable. read more

The establishment was clean, decorated beautifully and the service was inviting and professional. I was immediately greeted and was asked to sign in, they provided me with some refreshments while I waited (10-12min). Mimosas are served at this location for the adults so I treated myself to one. A friend recommended Wi or Willow for nail techs. Wi did my mani/pedi and did a stunning job! I got a short deep French set for my nails & toes with 2 acrylic big toenails. I typically get a full set on my toes but Wi assured me he could shape my natural nails to my liking and to my surprise he did! He was attentive & didn't try to change my mind on what I wanted IYKYK. The salon was family oriented, I saw husbands and wives bring their daughters, as well as men just enjoying some self care! Love to see it! After reading reviews I didn't have high expectations but as soon as I walked in I was greeted and the place was surprisingly pretty full. I was seen within less than 10 minutes of waiting with no appointment was just waiting for someone to finish up. Way bigger nail salon than I expected and a lot of workers. Tim did such a great job on my gel manicure and I'm actually a really picky person. He didn't use a drill all he used was a file on my natural nails. You can tell he is very experienced and knows what he is doing. Loved his work so much I never write reviews but thought I would since reading reviews prior on this salon I was expecting a negative experience. I really had a horrible experience here. I went on Friday to get a dip set and after just a few days one of my nails has broken. The nail tech didn't do a neat job at all as you can see by looking at my nail bed, and this isn't my first time having a bad experience at Gloss Nail Bar. Their service seems to be getting worse & worse. The tech did a sloppy job on my nails. It seems that they try to rush and get done, but won't exhibit quality work. Cuticles are looking awful and nails chipped and cracked after just 4 days. Also she cut me so bad under my thumb cuticle. It's just now healing.. my cuticles just look so awful.. When I got my pedicure and got my cuticles cut,the person cut way too far and made my toe bleed and proceeded to still dip my feet back into the same water that my feet had been soaking in before. Luckily my toe never got a fungal infection or anything but that was a big nono for me! You hear horror stories about people getting fungal infections from nail salons and I can see exactly how! No matter how busy you are you should always pay attention to what you're doing and make sure you're doing it right! The pedicure was ok at best. I've been to a lot of nail shops in Memphis and this is the best one by far! The staff is friendly and professional, the salon is clean and they have upgraded amenities throughout the shop. They serve cocktails or refreshments, the wait is never long. My tech is Dawn and she always knows exactly what I want! It is a little bit of a splurge but it's worth it. My nails last at least two weeks and never chip. I wear gel polish on almond shaped nails. You can make an appointment or walk in but if you're booking Dawn, make an appointment! I give 5 stars to Andrea (Adrienne?) who was my nail tech. This was my first pedicure since my in grown toe-nail removal surgery and I was nervous my tech would rush through it. Rushing pedicures/mani has been my experiences lately at Gloss with many of my last techs, speed does not equal quality! She cared about the job she was doing and the end result showed. This was my second pedi post COVID. Note that my first pedi was at another establishment. The service was great. BUT as time went on I found myself immensely uncomfortable. Masks were not enforced. No distancing occurred. People were on top of one another, hovered at nail selection and checkout. Now mind you there is a large sign sitting at the entrance regarding masks, but the manager nor the techs enforced this. One patron didn't have a mask on at all. Another patron intentionally had the masks sitting below her nose. Ummm ma'am you are defeating the purpose. Another patron would act like she didn't know it wasn't fully on, but she did. She promptly pulled it up when I stared her down and adjusted mine. I am sooooo grateful no one was next to me on either side. As much as I love Gloss, I will not be going back anytime soon. I went in for a pedicure. I was very quickly and painfully given a pedicure! It took 17 min from the time I walked in until I walked out. I asked for the water to be warmer but that didn't happen. She had rings on her fingers that she jammed into my chins and feet for the 2 seconds of massage that she gave. She didn't use cuticle remover so it was painful for her to push the cuticle back. I went to nail shop on Sunday for tips and dip nails. I paid 50.00 by Wednesday 3 of my nails had broken off. I do no manual work at all. EDIT-- I came back in to have my nails fixed and the service was excellent. I even went back to get another manicure here. I was recommended to come to Gloss by a friend. I loved the environment of Gloss. It's beautiful inside. I made an appointment, though, several days before. When I walked in I had to wait 15 min for my first treatment, and another 20 for my second treatments. Essentially, I was just another walk in, even though I took the time to make an appointment. Including wait time, I was at the salon for 2.5 hours, and almost 1 hour of that was waiting. If you aren't going to honor appointments, don't say you take appointments. It's all about managing expectations. When I left, I was quite satisfied with my nails. I got a dip manicure, and they were so well done!! However, last night, a mere 4 days later, I noticed a chip on one of my fingers. (See picture... though I couldn't get my camera to zoom in very clearly.) This is extremely disappointing, since they said a dip manicure would last 3 weeks. 4 days is way less than 3 weeks. I'm definitely disappointed, and will have to consider whether or not I use them again. read more

I've been to each Gloss Nail Bar since they've been in business, and I typically have a good experience! Today, I didn't! Not at all! The young lady that was assigned to do my services had the worst attitude. No hello, bunch of grunts and eye rolls: even raised her voice at me when i asked another technician about a color reel...The manager stepped in to appease the situation by stating the young lady didn't understand what I was saying. I don't think that was the case as I asked her questions prior and she in turn did not acknowledge me or mumbled a response. I simply wanted to get a relaxing pedi and mani after a long day at work. The experience at gloss nail bar HIGHLAND only added to my stress! I'm very disappointed with my experience today!
