I don't even know if GBK is still in business, but more than 10 years ago, GBK (Adem) installed a new shower stall in my basement. Now...more than 10 years later, I decided to redo the shower because a renter's father messed up the hardware. A company demo'd the stall and there was not one bit of moisture or mold in the area, and the area was perfect for a reinstall. They did a wonderful job. We worked with GBK (Amanuel) in 2020 to completely remodel our kitchen and full bathroom, but after his initial quote and a couple meetings asked to include another full bathroom based on his reasonable prices and our happiness in working with him. We tacked on a number of small items to that first remodel (recent house purchase, so we were making a bunch of small improvements as well as the major improvements), reached out for a small job to fix our fireplace a few months later, and just finished our next (hopefully last) major remodel for our third full bathroom and master bedroom. Amanuel has always been extremely honest, transparent, and works extremely hard to make sure we were well taken care of. His contracting crew led by Victor has done amazing work each time and have always been extremely punctual, communicative, and fantastic to work with. Even with our additions to the job throughout (and at the height of the pandemic with shortages and supply chain issues everywhere), Victor and Amanuel completed our entire kitchen and two full bath project on time and on budget - and each of our other jobs as well. We can't recommend Amanuel and his team enough to anyone considering major or minor renovations to their home. read more

GBK did outstanding work and provided reliable, professional service for our bathroom renovation project in November 2013. After visiting several remodelling businesses (including Reico Bath), my wife and I decided to go with GBK for remodelling the master bathroom (about 6x8 feet) in our townhouse. Due to shoddy work by a different contractor, our bathroom had water damage due to a misinstalled shower door. Eric Swipe (eric@gbkremodeling.com) was helpful in providing general advice about bathroom renovations without any pressure. I liked the fact that the GBK showroom was not overwhelming. GBK is great for folks who do not mind paying a little more for a high quality contractor (instead of negotiating cut-rate fees with non-specialists), but prefer to avoid the "high-end" designs and exhorbitant rates charged by Reico Bath for custom projects. I would recommend going to a tile shop (e.g., Mosaic Tile) and look at tile patterns and designs to get ideas BEFORE you come to GBK. We found it helpful to pick a general color and tile pattern before obtaining an estimate. Once we selected a tile color and design (white subway tile for the shower interior; porcelain white floor tile that resembled marble), Eric and the president of GBK came to our house to do an initial assessment and develop a cost estimate. We asked for a second cost estimate (about $4,000 cheaper) after deciding to keep our double sink and vanity unit. GBK was flexible in adapting to our change requests. GBK prefers an initial deposit of 40% of the total cost to start the project, with milestone payments of 30% each upon completion of the shower tiles, and the entire bathroom. They asked us to select faucet / light fixtures and a paint color for the wall. GBK has a preferred list of products (e.g, Kohler) where they get favorable rates from Ferguson. Also, they work closely with Mosaic Tile (in Fairfax) and get a contractor's discount from them. But the highlight of the project was the timeliness of work and high quality of the contractors - Calixto (lead foreman) and Victor did an outstanding job of removing the old shower and tile, cleaning out the pipes, fixing the water damaged areas and repairing the drywall, explaining what they did, and clarifying details. Calixto has worked with GBK for at least 6-7 years and is reliable. Eric was accessible by email and responded in a timely way to our questions during the project. I would strongly recommend GBK as a place to consider for a bath remodeling project! read more

First things first- you can stop your search for a contractor and reach out to GBK. We had a great experience and three weeks post-project, I walk into my new kitchen every day and fall more in love with it. We hired GBK for a kitchen remodel and to add a bathroom to our 1920s DC townhouse. I was impressed with GBK from our initial consultation, and was happy with their initial estimate. I really liked that we were able to go and choose materials and finalize the design before we signed a contract. Amanuel was always very responsive and I was impressed with Victor, his foreman. The crew was always respectful and explained what they were doing. The project finished on time and on budget. We did discover about a week after the project ended that there was a plumbing issue that no one could have anticipated, but Amanuel stood by his work and the crew fixed it promptly. We did wish there was a little more transparency with regards to pricing- a line by line budget would've been nice- but we were still happy with the price we paid and that we did not go over the budget we signed on. Working with Daniel was truly a pleasure. He was the first to respond with suggested layouts via C.A.D. drawings and mock ups. His ideas were creative and fit it nicely with what we had envisioned. He was always responsive to any issue I had as the work continued. The crew came every weekday like clockwork, and were professional and friendly. Gabriel, the crew leader, was great to work with and made changes that we asked for quickly and cost effectively. Osmar was on the job nearly every day and was also a pleasure to work with. Project Scope Full kitchen remodel. No major structural changes, but new cabinets, counter tops, sink, island, and backsplash along with a partial change-out of appliances. Installed built-in coat tree by the back door. New flooring in the kitchen was matched and blended with red oak flooring in our existing family room - also stripped and refinished. Repainted kitchen and family room. They were able to include some custom touches such as built-in bookshelves and mounting some tiles that we brought back from our honeymoon in Mexico 20 years ago and managed to rediscover in time to make them an integral part of the design. They were able to move a bathroom drain pipe and repair a small leak in our washing machine outflow without breaking a sweat. Results We interviewed 5 contractors. Amanuel hooked us with both his digital design renderings and expertise. He is an architect as well as the project manager and kept his head in the game from start to finish. He gave us a steady stream of thoughts, question, and suggestions as forks in the road approached - all in a way that made it quite clear that he was personally invested in delivering a genuinely excellent product. We are still a little stunned by how well it went. They estimated 5-6 weeks and all of our friends and family laughed and said "double that." They finished in 4 weeks and one day. The two-man crew, aside from being extremely talented craftsmen, were in at 8:30 every morning and out at 6 pm pretty much like clockwork. They were congenial people and very responsive to any issues that came up for us. I think we made good partners as we were able to render quick decisions and were determined to avoid major mid-stream changes, so that also kept it rolling. It was not a super bargain, but it was a fair price for what we got. Most of all, we are extremely happy with the outcome. Globe was able to translate our vision and make it real. We happily recommend Globe and Amanuel for any similar work and will hire them again should we make additional improvements to this house. read more

I chose GBK for my bathroom renovation over the winter of 2014-2015 due to rave reviews from a friend (whose bathroom I love), their detailed proposal, and general research which said they were a solid company. Sadly, they did not live up to the hype and we ended up throwing a lot of money at the problem to simply be done with a sub-par project. Problems started after all features were chosen and the contract was signed. We slowly learned that GBK did not measure the room accurately and even wrote incorrect products into the contract. This too after selecting specific models in their showroom and having several conversations about sizing needed for items such as towel racks and bath vanities. Despite escalating this to the manager (our contact was let go) the errors resulted in a lot more added cost to us. As if that initial headache wasn't enough, problems persisted. For example, after learning we had to reorder the vanity due to our original contact's errors, GBK refused to discount or comp this additional cost. They claimed it was a "custom" piece since granite was cut to go on top of a generic base. (Note to reader- this makes all vanities "custom" since there are no off the shelf options.) Once the new vanity arrived we then learned upon installation that the manager also ordered the wrong base resulting in shelves being located precisely where the plumbing was supposed to go. This after conversations in the showroom with both him and the project manager about the location of the shelving. Subsequently we had to pay (again another added fee GBK wouldn't take ownership of) to relocate the pipes so we wouldn't have to order a third vanity. Needless to say, a headache! Now I live with a bathroom that looks good superficially but doesn't have the bathtub faucet completely attached (you can spin this around as I learned when giving my child a bath) which worries me about leaks into the floor down the road, has a medicine cabinet that won't fully open since it's blocked by a light fixture, and many other little things. Sadly, I'd rather live with the imperfections than work with GBK again to solve them. read more

They refuse to stand behind their work. Globe Bath & Kitchen remodeled our bathroom in 2007. Two years ago we started having water leak from the shower pan into the hallway. I called Globe to come take a look and provide an estimate to fix the problem. They refused to even come out and look. Globe's contract specified that they would pull plumbing permits. I checked with the City and was told no plumbing permit was issued; hence no inspection was done to verify that the shower pan actually held water. Don't make a $12,000 mistake by hiring these people. read more

Eric and his team were fantastic. We met Eric in the showroom and he took the time to go over every aspect of the bathroom and helped us pick tiles, faucets and everything in between. The estimates he provided were very detailed with links to the products and a full explanation of the requirements. The work started on time and finished on schedule with no surprises. We received 3 estimates from 3 contractors for our Bathroom remodeling job in DC, and finally chose Globe Bath and Kitchen for our project of a 3-bathroom complete remodel job. The designer (Daniel) went over all the details, materials and costs in the beginning. We then meet with Daniel at his office, went over design choices and received his helpful input along the way. The contractors (Gabriel and his crew) were punctual, pleasant and conscience of protecting all areas of the house from dust, bumps and scraps. Daniel then gave us a detailed breakdown of the cost for our project and stayed within our planned budget. All bathrooms were completely gutted out down to the studs. The crew prepared all "construction zone" areas with a plastic wall (it worked very well) and covered all floors to minimize any damages. However, with any renovation, there are always a few issues along the way, but the designer addressed them immediately and made every effort to correct the issue or offered other solutions to make us happy. We hired Globe Kitchen and Bath to do a complete remodel of our two 5x8 bathrooms; a guest bath and a master bath. All flooring, tile and fixtures were removed, with the exception of the cast iron tub in the guest bath which we had re-painted. In the master bath we had the tub removed and had the space converted to a stand up shower with a seat. We selected all the new tile and fixtures either at the Globe showroom or online based on internet links Adem, the company owner, provided. We are extremely pleased with the work Globe did. The crew, headed by Gabriel, were polite and respectful of our home. All the workers were conscientious and Gabriel in particular took enormous pride in his work. His tile work was excellent and I especially appreciated his design ideas for the mosaic accent tile in the master bath. We also love the beautiful frame-less shower doors installed in both baths. These were custom made for our bathrooms by a company Globe frequently uses. When I arrived home from work on the day the project was completed I was thrilled to learn that Gabriel had brought a cleaning crew to our home who thoroughly cleaned all areas affected by the work; hallways and adjoining rooms as well as our garage where all the supplies, machinery and products had been stored. Instead of having to spend the weekend cleaning up we could relax and enjoy our spiffy new bathrooms! I recommend this company without hesitation. read more

We had a great experience with Globe Bath and Kitchen (GBK). We hired them to fully renovate two of our bathrooms and our kitchen. They were recommended by colleagues and received good reviews overall on Angie's List. After meeting with several other contractors, we met with GBK. The price was very competitive and we are very satisfied with the craftsmanship. Importantly for us, GBK's bid included nearly all materials (tile, fixtures, cabinetry/vanities, handles/knobs, sinks, counter tops). We spent a few hours with GBK owner Adem at his showroom (and then to one of his suppliers) to select tile, marble, cabinetry finishes and that worked out really well for our busy schedules. Most of the materials arrived at our house before the work began so there were very few delays due to waiting on supplies. (The only minor delays we had were due to scheduling with sub-contractors on shower door installation and counter top installation). The work was completed roughly in the time frame estimated (only a few days over). We had one change work order and GBK was very accommodating in dealing with the issue. There were really no surprises with the price at the end - they stayed on budget. The crew showed up everyday or at least when they were supposed to (unless there was a reason not to - like they had painted the day before and they were waiting for everything to dry); was always courteous and left our house clean every day of the renovation -- they always put up plastic sheeting, drop cloths and vacuumed at the end of each day. GBK converted one bathroom from an old cast iron soaking tub with 1940s pink tile to a modern shower stall with bench. They took the bathroom down to the studs, installed insulation, put in radiant floor heat, re-wired and plumbed, and installed a ceiling fan and new lighting. The second bathroom project involved re-tiling, tub-reglazing and new vanity, sink and toilet. For our kitchen, GBK installed a new sink, fixtures, backsplash, under-cabinet lighting, and a countertop. One note for folks looking for a reasonably priced alternative to complete kitchen cabinetry overhaul: GBK is good at what they do and they are honest about what they are not experts on too: they said they do not do "cabinet re-facing." When we bought our house, the kitchen had great cabinets but we just wanted to change the color and look of the cabinet doors. We got quotes for re-facing from Home Depot and another competitor for "re-facing" (where they sand down the cabinet frames and apply a stick-on veneer and then install all new doors). Instead, we worked with a carpenter and GBK to order new (paint-ready) doors and drawer front from a third-party vendor (in PA). GBK sanded down the cabinet frames, and painted the doors and frames (using oil-based paint) then installed new hardware. The price was about 1/4 of the quotes from the re-facing companies. We think the outcome looks great though of course, the re-facing companies strongly advise against painting cabinets. Finally, we were impressed with the level of contact and constant communication between GKB owner Adem and his crew. Any request we made through Adem was immediately passed onto and implemented by the crew. We recommend staying in close communication with Adem and the crew throughout the process, as it is helpful to keep informed of the day to day process. They are a small company with a lot of jobs, and it's always a good idea to stay on top of your communication with them, and Adem is very responsive, particularly by email or text message. Finally, nearly one year later we had some minor adjustments needed on one of our bathrooms and they came out to deal with it no questions asked (still under 1 year workmanship warranty), so that was impressive as well. read more

Globe Bath and Kitchen Remodeling recently completed the complete remodeling of three bathrooms, and the repair and re-tiling of a fourth shower needed to repair a leak which was discovered during the remodeling of one of the bathrooms. The work was excellent. I can't say enough complimentary comments about Calixto, the lead worker. He solved problems that arose, gave me excellent advice on placement of plumbing, and his craftmanship was excellent. He and his team were easy to work with. I was away for much of the work and felt perfectly comfortable with Calixto and his team in my home. Calixto was responsive to calls and many questions were sorted out over the phone. I have recommended Globe to neighbors and would use the company again in a heart beat. read more

After seeing the excellent work done by Globe Bath & Kitchen Remodeling in the condo unit across the hall, we asked for a similar renovation, which included taking out a wall and adding an island in the kitchen. With just one visit to their store and granite supplier the job was all set up and they got to work, which had to be done while we were away. They did an excellent job of blending the new flooring into the existing hardwood. We asked them to paint the entire interior of the condo and they did an excellent job. We even asked for a new back door and storm door, which were installed perfectly. The finished product in the kitchen came out extremely well, with the new granite countertops, backsplash tiles, new cabinets, island, and refrigerator. I met with a number of contractors for my kitchen renovation (I replaced the cabinets, appliances, and countertop) and chose GBK because of the price, the quality of materials (all wood cabinets), their ability to start work right away, and because Amanuel seemed like someone who would be good to work with. He was - Amanuel was extremely responsive and willing to listen to everything I wanted. I was impressed with how seriously he took my project and how much care and thought he put into it. He had suggestions and recommendations, but was never over-bearing and didn't try to talk me into anything I didn't want. My kitchen is small and somewhat awkward and he spent a lot of time trying to come up with creative options (although ultimately he came back to what I had suggested in the first place). The one problem was that he had miscalculated the space that would be necessary for a drawer to open next to an appliance. I think this was partly because of timing - he was ready to start immediately, which was great but also meant that neither of us had much time to look carefully at the size of the appliances relative to spacing. When I requested that he fix this, he came up with another option and was able to make the change quickly. Overall, I'm very happy with my new kitchen - the appearance, the quality of materials, and Amanuel's attention to details. read more

Globe Bath and Kitchen Remodeling is the company to contact if you are looking to upgrade your bath or kitchen to make it accessible. My husband is a Vietnam Vet who is Agent Orange. It is presenting itself as a slow deterioration of his body. We recently moved into a condo to be on one floor so when the time comes that he is totally wheelchair bound we will still be able to function. The one issue we had was the master bath. It was a tub shower. We had other contractors come out but all said that they would need to do a shower lip of 2 to 4 inches. We really wanted a roll in shower to prepare for the future. But after talking with others we felt we would have to resign ourselves to a "walk-in" shower and deal with the roll in later if it was needed. While at the Home and Garden show at Dulles we met Globe. They said their specialty was accessibility so we had them out. We are SO glad we did. Globe Bath said they could do the roll in shower. AND - where the others gave us a 1 to 2 month time estimate, Globe said 1 week, except for the glass, which is special ordered and would take 2 weeks to get in. (I should also note here that our master bath size is very, very small so one week was possible. If you have a larger bath it would probably take longer.) The price was higher than we had hoped BUT we got what we wanted - beautifully done AND within a reasonable time frame. So to us it was worth the extra money. The rep was professional, courteous and a pleasure to deal with. The contractor who came out to actually do our bath was outstanding too. He was a pleasure to have in the home; he cleaned up after himself each day and worked hard to be as inconspicuous as possible. I cannot say enough positive words about this company. They should definitely be one of the companies you call out for an estimate. Remodeling is so hard. Working with pleasant people takes the edge off of it. read more

How'd it go? OUTSTANDING! I received estimates from 7 contractors before settling with Globe. Why? Rave reviews on Angie's list, professionalism, response and cost. Highly, highly recommend this company. Estimate of 4 to 6 weeks and completed job in 4 weeks! Luis and his crew are amazing!!! Very professional, courteous, punctual, and most of all METICULOUS in their work. Everyday would setup tarps, plastic, etc to keep house clean and every night removed everything so that our home was very livable during construction. Very patient as well - painted entire powder room with color I choose. I decided that I picked a really bad color and they repainted the powder room. They were very, very patient with me! All bathrooms are meticulous with the tile, painting, vanities, etc. We could not be more pleased with the product and have been showing off our bathrooms to neighbors and friends.
