With a love for coffee and experience working at Caribou Coffee for a little while I started out 2014 with the mission to visit all of the coffee shops in my area. After visiting a few, I thought why not write reviews and share my thoughts on each of them. So here we are... without any further ado let's dive right in to my unbiased review of Glenview Grind Location and Ambiance: Glenview Grind is located in downtown Glenview, and overall has a really great ambiance due to the home feel and vibe that the coffee shop has. Coffee: The coffee was great! I had the usual black coffee, but they also have lattes and espresso based drinks if you want something sweater. Food: There were some great food choices and the pastries I tried were great (Pumpkin loaf)! Staff: The staff was nice, and had no issues making jokes with me along the way. When you just don't feel like going to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, out here in the suburbs there aren't too many other options for a simple cafe. Glenview Grind is a wonderful alternative. I've been to Glenview Grind plenty of times now and every experience has been pleasant. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. The barista makes wonderful drinks (including some pretty nice foam on lattes and cappuccinos... as a former barista myself, I find this important). Their brewed coffee is excellent (I think it's Intelligenstia coffee) and always tastes fresh. The espresso is smooth. The specialty drinks are ALL delicious! I believe they have a nice balance between the espresso, milk, and sweetness from syrups- not overly sugary like the drinks at many other coffee shops. OH I even tried a peach iced Italian cream soda and it was INCREDIBLE. The almond cream soda I gotta honestly say was not as good of a choice =P I'm glad I tried it though because I love to experiment. Lastly, they have a loyalty card in which they punch holes for every drink ordered each time you visit. Once you've reached 10 drinks, the 11th is free. Excelleeeeent. read more

I was feeling an egg and cheese on a croissant one day for some odd reason. I yelped and found Glenview Grind and decided to go because I've drove by it hundreds of times. The inside is super cool, super clean and has a fresh coffee shop look. I instantly really liked it and saw myself coming here a lot. I ordered a egg and cheese on a croissant sandwich (you saw that coming) and the lady told me, "It comes with sausage also, you're not allergic are you? Because we can just take off the sausage". That was a bit of a red flag for me because that sounds like it's just something frozen they heat up. I decided I'll try it anyways. I ended up not getting a coffee but opted for an apple juice instead so I can't judge the coffee. I got my sandwich and I laughed to myself because it was so tiny. The croissant was one of those mini croissants... definitely not worth $4 for that. I was super disappointed in the sandwich because the egg was just some fake frozen egg they just warm up... kinda like the Dunkin' Donuts one. I was confused because in some of their pictures on yelp they show the same sandwiches with real eggs and not the fake all white one. Oh well, kind of a bummer but next time I'll try a bagel I guess. I wish my sandwich was good because I would definitely have given this place 5 stars. There's tons of seats which is cool and even board games you can play. Also, they have a printer which you can connect via Bluetooth and print. read more

My first experience at Glenview Grind was not great. I was not in a hurry to return. But the people who own Nail Time farther down Waukegan Road said, go in, try again. I did, and you know what? I'm glad I went in. I've been twice, and had much, much better customer service experiences. The coffee is Intelligentsia. I had an iced coffee, which I drank at Glenview Grind. That was perfectly fine, and set me on a caffeine high for several hours. The next time, I looked at their specialty coffee drinks and thought, what the heck? When has the mere fact that a cup of liquid offers about a thousand calories ever stopped me before? So I had a medium serving of the peanut butter drink. Sorry, I don't remember the exact name. It was served with a mini-Reese's on the top, which I thought was hilarious. And the drink really did taste like peanut butter and chocolate. It was really good. Again, I'm sure it must have contained at least a thousand calories, but I didn't care. I sucked that baby down. I didn't eat anything except a smiley cookie, which was fine. It was soft and sweet, which pleased me. More calories. What the heck. The big difference was the service. I think it was Cathy, the manager. She gave me a name! She smiled! She offered me a frequent flyer card, which I declined, saying I was from out of the area. She welcomed me. There was a gentleman making the drinks, and he smiled. On another visit, another young lady, I believe of Asian heritage, was there, and she was friendly too. I don't know what happened to change things, but I'm glad things have changed. This was already a cute place, but service was lacking. That's been turned around, big time. Two visits, two good experiences. Yes, I am now a fan! read more

They admit to giving you 1/2 of what you pay for?? I was there for the first time today. I ordered a medium ice coffee no ice. I typically order this from Starbucks. At the window upon pick up she said this was double the amount of coffee they usually give and will only allow this once, this time. In other words she admitted that they only give you half of the cup with coffee as the rest is ice? Starbucks was all over the press last year for this same issue. Starbucks admitted they were not giving enough coffee in their ice coffees and rectified by suggesting to order the ice coffee with no ice. Did GG not learn from this or do they simply not care? If you are ok with paying for a full cup and only getting half (Glenview openly admits to only giving half), then feel free to continue to go. This was a one and one for me. Just wanted to share that you are essentially paying double. read more

Bad coffee. Like I'd prefer folgers bad. Neither of the two people working at the counter would even look you in the eye. They don't take Amex. Noisy. I had to yell to talk to the person sitting next to me. Great wifi signal, so, if you need strong wifi, this is your place. I can't think of any other reasons to go. // Update: I couldn't even finish my coffee. Added cream - which i only do for horrible coffee and it didn't even help. Threw it out. It's a local place for sure. The baristas know many of the customers, and if they don't know you, they make you feel like you are a local. They don't bother you if you are studying for a while and just get one coffee. There is lots of light and the internet is fast. During the summer, the mornings can be quite busy with families grabbing a quick breakfast, but towards the afternoon, the place clears out and you can easily get your own table. Their mochas are one of my favorite in the area. You get to choose between milk, dark or white chocolate. They always have fresh pastries and will make you sandwiches if that's your thing. I love Glenview Grind. In an area where Starbucks pops up with the determination of dandelions in the middle of July, Glenview Grind is a welcome breath of fresh air. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. I've felt comfortable enough asking questions to clarify the menu or just chat as my drink gets rung up. Every drink I've ever gotten has been great. I particularly love the Nutella latte (hot or blended, both are divine). As for the regular house coffee, it's a winner as well, and a perfect pick-me-up. It used to be a Caribou Coffee, so some of the wood panelling remains, but Glenview Grind brings its own flair to the space. There are also plenty of power outlets, so it's a good place to bring your laptop and work, or surf the web while sipping some coffee. read more

Nitro on tap..enough said. The price is right and the taste is good. $4 for a 20 ounce is pretty decent. I think if the nitro was chilled it would be absolutely perfect. They have outdoor seating. Place seemed chill and there is parking in the rear and by the tracks. Make sure you park towards Glenview House for two hour parking. The other side is Metra commuter parking. read more

I will preface this review by stating the following: I was in the service industry for 14 years. I understand it through and through, and always go way out of my way - no matter what kind of day I'm having, no matter what I have on my mind, no matter how much of a hurry I'm in - to treat each and every single person in a service position with respect because I *know* how it is. This place is adorable, but their baristas are quite clueless, and sometimes even border on rude. Today I was not given what I had asked for, so I very politely asked again, only to be argued with by the barista. This kind of thing is ridiculous and inexcusable. Please simply honor my (immensely simple) request, and if you don't get it right, please do not try to blame me, correct me, or mansplain to me. Even if I would ever dream of doing something like that when I was in the industry - which I never would, because I'm not a jerk - I never would have for fear of **losing my job.** My experience today at the Glenview Grind was yet another sad example of the millennial world that we live in. read more

Stuck in a twenty minute drive thru line and a $7.65 drink later, the days of a satisfied customer seem to be behind us.

I was in town for the summer, and this was my go-to coffee shop to work in. It has plenty of space/outlets and never feels too busy or loud. The drinks are delicious and inventive (if you're a chai fan, get the dirty bear - espresso and chai deliciousness!) When I am back and need a place to work, or just a place to get a delicious drink, this will be my place. read more

I love stopping here when I'm in Glenview for a refreshing drink (and maybe a gluten free sweet). Their chai tea latte and dirty bear (chai with espresso) are my favorite. My mom loves their Nitro brew. They have a good variety of snacks from healthy to desserts. read more

I'm always on the lookout for the ever elusive perfect latte, and whilst passing through town one unseasonably warm morning, I found myself at the Glenview Grind. It must be known that I frequent establishments that have perfected their art, and so while the Glenview Grind did a fair job building a traditional pour, I'd mark them down as reliable in a pinch. The spot was very busy with young local patrons, and their popularity was noted, though the seating was a bit tight, so after a few minutes I was on my way. Keep at it! The new location and strong quality make this a must visit in the North Shore. I visited today and loved the interior wood theme and there was plenty of seating. I ordered an iced mocha with milk chocolate (they have white and dark as well) and loved it. It was a perfect blend of bold espresso complemented by the sweetness of the chocolate. Former employee here. The atmosphere is fine if you're down with listening to the same playlist day in and day out. The coffee and food are passable at best and they will try and upsell you on every purchase you make, boss's orders. Perhaps food service wasn't the best place to find a job for a disabled fellow such as myself, but I can't help shake the feeling something isn't right when the owner Cathy, and her majordomo Kathy would frequently neg me in pursuit of better performance, a true "If you're leaning you could be cleaning" ethos, despite my coworkers on the floor telling me I was doing just fine. Cathy refuses to communicate at times and will leave you hanging on a simple question/request for weeks on end, then lie about her reason for absence. Woe betide you Cathy. read more

I drive by here all the time and finally found the perfect moment to stop in... boy am I happy I did! I loved the Vanilla drink I got and when I tried the Smore the next day, I was super happy with that too! I have yet to try just a regular coffee but I can't complain so far. Breakfast sandwich was fresh and warm! I paid $4.40 for a large hot coffee yesterday and it was one of the worst coffees I've had. Extremely watery, not sure how they prepare their hot coffees but it was definitely not freshly brewed. A little upsetting for the price. Nice atmosphere to sit inside though. read more

It's always great to see a good independent business become a success, and I hope that Glenview Grind does very well. To be frank with you, I did not notice the changes in décor nor the layout of this comfortable coffee shop as compared to its earlier Caribou Coffee incarnation. The shop looks comfortable and inviting. I happened to drink a cup of their decaffeinated coffee (I try to stay away from caffeine for medical reasons), and I found the flavor and presentation to be fine. I like the finishing touches they offer like cream, milk, different types of sweeteners (including honey), and flavorings. A minor quibble is that the pastries are a bit expensive, and the servings are small. The people working there are friendly and dedicated. I wish them the best. read more

The Latte I ordered was made with espresso from a cheap automatic coffee machine. I could see from the drive through them making it and the machine being used. Yet I paid $6. I frequent a lot of coffee shops, and Glenview Grind for many years at the old and new location. Granted I moved to Chicago and this was the first visit in many months. But it's dishonest for a business to charge $6 for a plain latte from essentially a gas station type machine. Maybe if you add a bunch of sugar and flavor you might fool me but it tasted gross as expected. And for $6? Giving it 2 stars because maybe this was an outlier, and it used to be a 4 star place with decent espresso. But I have had poor drinks the last year or 2 at the new location. I'm not one for coffee shops or cafes in general but when you've hours to kill between appointments, need to get some work done and require Wi-Fi to do so and don't want to attempt any of the above in a bar with the local drunks at 10am then coffee shops and cafes are the default. Enter the Glenview Grind. Plenty of covered parking in the back of the building (off of Glenview Rd and Waukegan), friendly staff ("Yeah you can have the Yelp deal for $2 bucks off. No you don't need to show me that you've checked in, just make sure to write a good review!") and clean surroundings with plenty of outlets to used said free Wi-Fi make this a pleasant spot to achieve my goals for the next few hours. As a side note they now serve beer and wine everyday from 4pm to close (9pm most days). If circumstance dictates, I'll come back here again. (It does get rather..."boisterous" here mid day. Excellent Intelligentsia coffee and the house roast is good as well. The pastries are tasty and I really like the deli sandwiches. They have a variety of healthy food options as well. Try the Glenview Smoothie if you need a vitamin/antioxidant boost. I especially like the fact that they are non-profit. All profits go to area charities and causes. Your money isn't going to some faceless corporation with a mermaid logo! haha The staff is friendly and helpful. The free wi-fi is faster than any coffee shop that I have been to in the Chicagoland area...and I have been to many! I work from home (which means coffee shops). There is covered customer parking and an entrance behind the building which is a big plus. Also, they just put out the outdoor sidewalk seating. Now we just need some warm weather! read more
