Super unique menu, stuff you don't see everywhere else, and the drinks were the same way, different but so good. But what really made the night was the staff. Dinner with coworkers (party of 9) and the service was rough. We were outside with several other large tables and people passed us with jugs of water to fill their tables while we sat empty. We started with appetizers. I tried the watermelon salad, Brussels sprouts and peppers and they were all good. For dinner, I had the prime rib pizza and the sauce was very rich. I was not a fan. The pizza totally blew our minds and exceeded our expectations. Gnocchi was stuffed with potato and was so cheesy, we loved whatever they did with Caesar salad dressing. After several similar experiences at Glasshouse Kitchen, we decided it was time to share one. Located in Research Triangle Park, Glasshouse Kitchen occupies its own attractive building within an office complex. For me, it's traditionally been a business lunch or dinner destination, but this visit was a personal lunch during the workday. We've now been here several times over the years, and unfortunately the experience has been remarkably consistent. For lunch we ordered: * Blackberry Salmon * Shrimp & Grits * Unsweetened Iced Tea * Saratoga Still Water Our bill came to $70.38 before tax and tip and also included a 3.5% Kitchen Appreciation Fee. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Both the building and the dining room create an inviting atmosphere that makes you expect a memorable meal. The ingredients were clearly high quality, and that's what made the meal somewhat frustrating. The execution simply didn't bring those ingredients to life. The Shrimp & Grits came with only five shrimp. They were perfectly cooked, but the portion felt small for the price. The grits were prepared correctly but lacked much flavor or personality. The Blackberry Salmon had similar issues. The salmon itself was cooked well but wasn't seasoned to let its flavor shine. The rice was bland, and while the blackberries were an interesting idea, they didn't really complement the salmon for us. Again the portion was adequate but not generous. Service was pleasant. We were seated immediately despite arriving at noon on a weekday, and our order was taken promptly. As on previous visits, though, there was a noticeable wait before the food arrived. Parking has always been somewhat limited, although the restaurant now offers complimentary valet parking, which is a nice improvement. One final surprise came when reviewing the receipt afterward: the 3.5% Kitchen Appreciation Fee. We hadn't noticed it during the meal, we were not told about it and then tipped in addition to it. Whether or not restaurants choose to add this type of fee is their decision, but we'd appreciate it being communicated more clearly before the bill arrives so that we are not tipping the 3.5% fee itself. Ultimately, we wanted to like Glasshouse Kitchen more than we did. The setting is beautiful, the ingredients are good, and the staff is pleasant. But after several visits, we continue to come away feeling that the food needs more thoughtful seasoning, the portions don't quite justify the price, and the overall value doesn't match the cost. We hope they'll refine the menu because the restaurant has the foundation to be much better than the meals we've experienced. read more

My group started off with a variety of small plates, including the Barada that came with mortadella, roasted brussels sprouts, hummus (which was a very generous portion), and the roasted carrots, which were all really good. Staff did a good job at pacing our starters and entrées. There were a lot more options for starters and they had a smaller series of entrée options. I had the blackberry salmon as my main which had a super crispy skin and a nice blackberry sauce. The rice wasn't anything special but it was there. I have the chocolate caramel tart, which was fantastic because it was so much caramel with a thick piece of ganache on top. One of my colleagues had the Keylime pie, which wasn't as tasty and didn't really taste like Keylime pie, and another had the Basque cheesecake, which was apparently very good and a very generous slice. The building is beautiful all glass walls. I did have issue with the sun being in my eyes for lunch but I guess I should pick my seat better. The parking is extremely tough. They do have valet but i personally never like valet parking. So I had to park far away near an office building. The area is very confusing as it in an office park so it seems like i put in the wrong address when I was driving up. Overall the dining experience was fantastic. I had a reservation and upon arrival everything went very smoothly. We were shown our table, given our menus and water right away with an extra pitcher for refills, and given time to look at the menu. The restaurant is decorated very nicely and feels like a perfect place to dine without feeling rushed and have a nice conversation. It's beautiful at night but I can imagine it would also look really bright during the day. Although I was hesitant at first about the food due to some mixed reviews I've received, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the complexity in flavor of all the dishes but also the cook on all the proteins. Some dishes were more on the acidic side, which some may not enjoy, but I enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered and especially enjoyed the pasta from the duck paccheri and the tenderness of the beef cheek. The restaurant was kind in celebrating the occasion that I was visiting for by gifting us a handwritten card and dessert.
