Glass Block Factory did an excellent job replacing my 7-block x 7-block glass block window! First, we discussed the job on the phone. I was undecided about whether to replace the 3 glass blocks with issues or the replace entire window. Glass Block Factory made an on-site visit to assess the window itself and the inside and outside area around the window. Since the window was above an unpaved gangway and on the second-floor scaffolding was necessary for the job. Glass Block Factory provided estimates to replace just the 3 blocks and to replace the entire glass block window. The pros and cons of each option was explained with no pressure. Since the window was 20 years old and there were some grout issues with other glass blocks in the window, I decided to replace the entire window. On the scheduled date, the team arrived. Scaffolding was setup outside the window. Drop cloths were placed inside to contain the debris. The removal of the original window and the installation of the new window was done with skill and efficiency. Work areas were cleaned up prior to their departure. The hopper vent in my glass block bathroom window was coming away from the glass. I called 4 different companies and they are the only people that came out to see it and give me an estimate. Came out today to replace the hopper. Could not be happier. They were right on time, worked quickly and efficiently and very friendly. Also totally cleaned the work area. My experience left me a bit disappointed and unsatisfied unfortunately. I scheduled to have 3 cracked blocks of a bathroom block glass window replaced. A guy came to check it out before we scheduled and said it shouldn't be a problem (though communication was limited). We scheduled the job. 2 guys came promptly at our scheduled time and got to work. They suggested replacing a 4th block, so we agreed. When the job was done, the glass blocks were all replaced and new mortar/cement was put in between the blocks. Unfortunately there was some damage done to the paint and drywall next to the window. In addition, caulk was not replaced between the window and wall where it had been pulled out. The job felt incomplete to me which is why I'm leaving a 2 star review. I now have damage to fix and caulk to replace before the project is complete. This was unexpected. I will look for another company for any block glass work I need done in the future. read more

I just called to try to set up a quote and had a very hard time understanding who I speaking with and aslo how their system worked. They said there was a $60 charge for a quote on site but that would be deducteded from the total cost but that if I chose to not go with that company I would owe nothing for the quote, which seemed confusing and a trap. read more

Jim and company do great work, are proud of their product, and know what they are doing, taking the time to explain the installation and maintenacne care going forward. Not everything always goes smoothly though, as my steam shower environment degraded the installed vent about 6 months in. Since this application was pretty unusal, it surprised all. I was so grateful and happy that the factory agreed, without hestitation or haggling, to fix the problem without charge. Part of being a good business is to correct problems that occur, however unforeseeable. The factory fixed it and I would not hestiate to use them again. read more

Fantastic experience from start to finish! We are in a duplex up condo unit in Chicago on the top two floors of a five story walk-up building. We noticed evidence of water leakage and mortar erosion on three of our large glass block windows. We found Glass Block Factory along with two other vendors here on Yelp. All three companies came out to evaluate and quote the work. It turned out that all three windows needed to be replaced as they were faulty from the original construction. Glass Block Factory was not the least expensive but Mike and his team were the most engaged and responsive so we decided to choose GBF. Mike was extremely flexible and responsive in scheduling the installation. It was raining on the original installation date so we rescheduled for the following day. Jose and his team showed up on time at 9:00 am, worked non-stop for hours to get the scaffolding in place (since they would ultimately need that since the highest window is 50 feet above the ground) and other prep work. Jose was extremely cautious and since showers seemed possible once the scaffolding was in place, he asked if they could come back the following day to do the installation when the forecast was clearer. He and his team again showed up on time, worked tirelessly to remove the existing windows and to get all three (extremely heavy, pre-assembled) windows installed in one day. They cleaned up meticulously inside and outside all along the way, were incredibly conscientious of my time and any potential disruption to our neighbors. They were polite, professional and engaged (asking us for feedback and answering our questions throughout the process). Never having experienced replacing a glass block window, I had no idea what to expect. Well trust me, given the circumstances of our windows and their location so high above the ground, it was NOT easy yet they made it seem so. Although I do not anticipate needing any more work done with glass block windows, I cannot recommend Mike and his installers (JL Salazar Construction) at Glass Block Factory highly enough. You can trust them 100%. At my request I inquired if I could use wire transfer to pay for the deposit and the final balance to which Mike happily complied. Much easier for both sides than mailing checks. BTW, we have experienced TONS of contractors over the years and unfortunately our experiences have ranged from sub-optimal to terrible.
