The corner of the door was testing on the curb because the supporting glass where bracketed had come completely out of the frame.

Shower door we had installed was such poor quality it failed in just 2 years and we had it replaced by another glass shop. Owner said his warranty was only a year, even though he built the shower incorrectly. We were very lucky no one injured when the shower started dismantling from the frame. The owner offered no solution, told me we could report him to the Oregon Contractor Board, and he attitude was it wasn't his problem. Terrible customer service, terrible workmanship.

Gene himself came out with an assistant; he measured and left a written estimate - all in about 20 minutes.

The last time was the cheapest, just under $800 to replace the boots on the vents in the roof that they said were the actual cause of the problem. Then it rained a few days later and the roof leaked in places it had never leaked before. Sometimes I have had to call several times to get a response, and then weeks go by before someone actually comes out. Each person who comes out has a different idea about the leaks. They do not seem to talk to one another or to review the photos or other evidence other workers have collected. They do assure me that it's fixed and they do bill me. The billing is fast. I suspect someone calls when they have nothing else going. I realize this review makes me look gullible and stupid. That's my excuse. But the roof still leaks.

An appointment was set up for a week later and that morning, we get a call that the technician was ill and would come the following week. He showed up and was literally here for about 5 minutes and proceeded to tell us that he needed to order shingles and bring his crew and we would get an estimate the next day for the total cost of the work. My husband said to him "this is not going to cost me $2000 dollars is it?" and the guy looked at him in shock. Fast forward a week later and we have no estimate. I called yesterday and suddenly I have a bill for $250 for this technician's service fee to view the job (for 5 minutes!!!). When I call to ask about the estimate as this $250 will apply toward the job if I hire them, I am told that I do not get the estimate until I pay this $250. That was never mentioned to me on the initial call or by the technician when he was here. So I basically told them that I am not paying for this until I see the full estimate. I'm not stupid -- I know a pack of shingles costs between $35 to $45 and he's telling my husband he needs to come back with his crew? It's two small little vent covers which I've already purchased and they were not cheap?! I don't get this, but particularly the bait and switch tactic and nobody told me I had to pay to get my estimate. I fully expected to be upsold or told I would need a roof replacement because that is what these guys are in business for, but to withhold an estimate on a tiny job -- and I told them at the outset -- this is a small job and I don't know if you even do this type of job and the guy who answered the phone said he never heard of covers for the vents before -- so how experienced can these roofers be? I'm still waiting to see if I see the actual estimate and will share the amount for laughs and giggles because I'm sure they saw my house and figured they could charge me a fortune, but I'm a New Yorker and am very street smart so I don't get taken advantage of at all.

Small things, like changing out my toilet float-cup assembly or diagnosing and fixing an outdoor-lighting issue. The two Workman were nice and very polite. Usually on time However they did not pay attention to details and preparation before painting. Furniture was covered but areas that should be protected from the ceiling and wall paint were not sufficiently masked off or protected from paint splatter. Two areas on the living room carpeting had good size paint drops and looked as if the workers tried to clean the area but what ever they used, left the carpet discolored . There should have been better protection while painting. Also some ceiling paint splatter on pleated shades. Again they did not protect the area. One hard wood floor vent had paint drips in between the grates. Home owner was able to remove it with efforts. Business owner apologized for the incomplete dry wall repair and said he would send a different crew to fix. He Apologized for the carpet spots with no solution. Our advice is to instruct his crew to pay more attention to protecting the home owners areas that aren't part of the work they are hired for and to detail work around moldings, doorways , windows and fixtures. We had only one area of white woodwork that was painted, the stair railing. Result was satisfactory but not as well done as previous areas in the past. Homeowner chose not to have any other woodwork painted and is satisfied with that choice. The home owner was very prepared prior for the job to start, having moved furniture, light fixtures, wall electrical plates, drapes and obvious obstructions before the workers arrived. This handyman was chosen because he could provide both dry wall repair and painting. His bid for the job was fair but the completed overall work by his crew was below average more due to the painting including lack of care in the preparation and detailing. We are left to do lots of touch up areas around moldings, window and door casings, in the rooms that were painted.

Two side of our house needed siding replaced due to construction flaws and water intrusion. We chose SFW Construction based on their Angies List recommendations. The workers were very skilled, they knew exactly what they needed to do, explained everything to us every step of the way. This is painful work for a homeowner: it is slow, noisy, invasive, and very very expensive. It took over three weeks to do two sides of our tall skinny house, and we spent about 10% of the purchase price of the house on the repairs. Painful, as I said. Very happy with the work and the people who did the work. 5 stars for that. I took one star off because they recommended SFW Painting to paint our house, and if you read my review of that company, doubt may creep into your mind as to whether you should do business with SFW. I can say that SFW Construction did a good job, and they were very good people to work with.

The work required took 2 days longer than I expected, though they had made no commitments.. Each day, the contractors communicated with me very thoroughly, but couldn't give me an estimate as to how much time (and therefore expense) would still be needed. Billing was sent as a day by day very detailed invoice, with payment expected immediately. A lien notice was sent less than a month after the work was done, with no follow up from the administrative office. The work was well done, the customer service awful.
