I have been there twice and each time the food was good. I love that Mongolian BBQ is vegetarian-friendly and all the side dishes are veggie-friendly as well. I really do like the food here, but I also have to say that I have had better Mongolian BBQ. Would I go back again? For shure. The atmosphere was clean and the people serving there were generally friendly. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly while the other staff were okay. Its a pretty simple and plain looking place inside. I appreciate that its not super crowded and would be good for a family. It's about mid price range for Mongolian BBQ. (Mongolian BBQ tends to be lower-mid price range for a budget anyway) There's nothing that I am overly excited for but a good place to eat with friends. Probably more of a 3.5. I've been going to GK Mongolian since they opened. It's buffet style at dinner. You can choose from beef, chicken, pork, or turkey as your protein (shrimp is available at an extra cost). There is a wide selection of vegetables each of which can drastically alter the taste of the dish. There are several sauces ranging from sweet to spicy, which, when combined with the wide selection of vegetables and protiens, gives you countless combinations. It's a great model because the only way you can dislike the food is if you prepare it wrong yourself. Every meal comes with chips, rice, soup, and seasame biscuits. With that said what you get is an excellent value but coupled with excellent service and a fairly quiet atmosphere I consider this one of the best places to dine at in Modesto. There needs to be a NO star for this plave, this place is sadly the nastiest place I have ever walked in to. NO greeting, dirty and the high chair was sticky even after I wiped it down with a wet wipe. The food was okay and the veggies were fresh. I just wished they didn't mess up on my orders. I ordered through grub hub and the driver said they were very disorganized and she had to wait awhile for the food. All three of my orders were messed up. One didn't have the 3 sauces in it. The other looked like it was thrown in the container and had significantly less meat than the other two and a few pieces of veggies. I also had gotten one with chicken and beef and the other two with pork and beef except one of the pork and beef were supposed to be spicy, it wasn't. Could barely taste the teriyaki sauce. None of the bowls were labeled which could be a problem if someone didn't eat pork. This was the worst experience I have ever had so bad that I went through the headache of signing up for yelp. It was my wife and I anniversary and she is 5 months pregnant. We were unaware of how the buffet worked and we left the noodles off the plate. The two cooks refused to add noodles and said we had to wait back in line to add noodles. I spoke with the waitress poor girl was by herself no other help. She said she would get some noodles cooked for us and the cooks refused to cook it for her and threw the bowl of noodles away. She called the manager I believe I'm not sure if she had the support of her manager. All in all we walked out the waitress was upset and she did not charge us for the food that we did not eat. I would give 0 stars if possible. We came in a Tuesday night with 6 people. The restaurant was empty yet every table was dirty. The buffet area was a disaster with veges and noodles everywhere. The sauces were all either empty or the oils were spilled everywhere. Then there was the staff. They acted like they couldn't care less. We had to go to the counter for refills, they never cleared any plates and the same tables were still dirty when we left. I'm honestly shocked this place hasn't been closed down due to unsanitary conditions. We will never go back and will tell everyone about this horrible place. read more

Some of the meat was thawed completely. Employees found that the chiller under the meat tray had never been switched on. An employee said it was safe to eat. No thanks. Disappointed with the "district manager" who would rather waste unwanted food than substitute (no rice, no soup sub 1 eggroll for both items). His staff at previous visits had more sense. Walked in as the only in person customer, seems to have been their dinner rush for online orders. Went here to get one bowl for my sister and waited 20 minutes while they put all online orders before us. Once we filled our bowl we were assured that someone would help us with sauces (due to covid we aren't allowed to get our own sauces. Understandable) We waited 10 minutes before someone called us to pay BEFORE our food was even made... The guys by the grill seemed to be very unprofessional (throwing food at one another and dancing). My sister and I were ignored for another 10 minutes until a smaller girl in the front asked us why our bowl was sitting on the side-that's when we were finally helped with the last step of our order. She was the best part of our visit. I've been to the Turlock location many times and will continue to go over this location any day. This location was very messy and unprofessional. read more

We noticed old food stuck to the outside of one stack of bowls, and the bowls we grabbed were sticky and brown brown dirty liquid in it. We have been going to Mongolian since it was just the original place and owner. For the past several years it just isnt the same. My biggest complaint is the noodles are ALWAYS over cooked. This was our first time going to GK Mongolian BBQ. It was super busy and all the tables were full so we decided to take it to go. We weren't sure what to do so we just fell in line with everyone else. There were an assortment of meats and vegetables as well as different sauces. The bowls were kind of on the small side so as soon as we put our meat and noodles in, there wasn't much room for anything else. My husband grabbed a second bowl for his veggies, I wasn't sure if this was allowed.... They had a many different choices of sauces to add when you get up to the cooking area. I'm not one for a lot sauce but the cook told me I didn't have enough sauce on my noodles and he was going to have to add a lot more sauce while he cooked it. The food smelled amazing while they were cooking it. The whole staff from the cooks to the guy and girl behind the register were all very friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to see that our meal came with drinks, a side of rice, fried won ton skins and little sesame dessert cake. The place was absolutely filthy! I bought a gift card from Costco because my husband loves it. Everything looked ok (besides the old brown broccoli) until I got up to the register. The keys on the register were filthy! A thick film of dust. Also, the floors were gross. I noticed as soon as I paid, so it was too late. The cup the lady handed me was sticky. Worst restaurant experience ever! I was so hungry and I love Asian food, so I stopped in. I was a little displeased with the bad smell and grimy filthiness of the self-serve food trays, but I still served myself. After taking one bite of my bowl, though, I realized the meat was bad. Terrible flavor.. I felt so nauseated. I *politely* asked for my money back from the girl in charge, who proceeded to be rude to me and waste 30 MINUTES of my time with frequent calls to her manager (who hung up on me 2x and sent me to voicemail and was rude as well) before giving me a $10 refund. At the end, when she was handing back my money, she snarked "This behavior is pathetic. It's entitled people like you that keeps us immigrants down." Entitled? To what..Good food that doesn't have E. This was our first and last time eating at this location. (Family dinner 2 adults 2 children and a baby). The Good - Multitude of flavor choices (sauces). Variety of vegtables. The price was "fair". The Bad - (there are a lot). All of the vegetables were mixed together. Mushrooms scattered in most of the choices. Our table was disgusting and had to be cleaned. The girl cleaning the window sprayed windex on the glass that is above the food...then dropped the napkins into the food as she was cleaning. Picked them up as if it was nothing new and continued cleaning. Next to the register was a paint bucket being used as a garbage can. It was full and overflowing. They transported the garbage from the back room through the dining area without a second thought. The Service - when we finished, I paid and asked for a box. I noticed the two customers ahead of me both received a box and both had children. We had a total of half a bowl remaining between the 4 of us and I am not a fan of wasting food - ever. The response I got was "I can't because you have kids". I said "so did those customers and I don't want to just waste food". She signaled her manager and he immediately stated that I should have read the many signs in the store that say I couldn't get a box. (There was only one sign and I simply didn't see it). His tone was rude as if I were scamming him for 4 full plates of food. I am very unhappy with this location and genuinely urge people to stay away until they find real management who can maintain a clean and professional atmosphere. read more

This place is awesome. My son is allergic to soy and peanuts. So when we get there, we just let the staff know and as soon as they can, they get the grill all cleaned off and sterilize the utensils.
