We recently completed a room addition and partial remodel, including the construction of a master bathroom and a large deck with pergola. After meeting with several contractors, we decided to hire GK Construction for the job. Gary was extremely professional, his quote was very reasonable, and he even helped us find an architect at a great rate to help with zoning, planning and permits. Gary and his crew completed each phase of the construction on time and on budget. Unlike many contractors, Gary often works alongside his crew to complete needed work. All of his crew were professional, courteous and did excellent work. The few times that things went wrong (like when one of the tiles in our new shower developed a hairline crack a few days after installation), Gary and his crew fixed the issues immediately. Even after the main construction was complete, Gary went above and beyond to make sure everything was completed properly. The doors on one of the new closets, for example, were custom ordered and didn't arrive until months after the main construction was finished. Once the doors arrived, we called Gary, and he came in and installed them himself and even helped patch and paint some drywall in another part of our house (that wasn't related to the original construction), all at no additional charge. I like another recent reviewer experienced GK General as being a complete time waster. About two months ago, I scheduled an appointment for the general contractor, Gary, to come to my house and view a project. He confirmed for a specific date and time, but showed up (without calling) over two hours later than anticipated. We were still at the property, so we spent about an hour with him showing him the project. Gary promised he would get a quote to us in a few days; however, we never heard from again. The kicker is recently, my boyfriend scheduled an appointment with GK General (again), not realizing this was the company I had previously scheduled with a couple months ago. Gary came to the property a second time. When I saw him I said, "You came here before, but never sent the quote." Gary completely pretended like he had never been to my house before saying,"I don't think so, and I don't remember." Like fools, we let him walk the property again. We sourced and called GK General Construction two Fridays ago. They told us they would come by the next Wednesday evening at 5:30 to meet with us both and measure for a quote. I have 3 preschool age children, my husband works 70 hours a week, AND after returning from a vacation we had to have the kid's bathroom entirely ripped out with one day's notice due to a leak that had caused mold. My point: we are tired, busy parents who needed GK to be straight with us. It would have been an easy gig for them to score - promptly paid by the insurance check. Unfortunately, they never showed. We worked with Gary on a kitchen and bath remodel. Both the kitchen and bathroom were taken down to the studs. The 10'x10' bathroom was then split into two full 4'6" x 10' bathrooms. Gary from GK General Construction truly made our kitchen dream come true! He made everything we envisioned into reality, and the best part is, he made it as budgeted and as scheduled. We truly liked Gary from the very beginning and felt off the bat that we could really trust him with our renovation. We received about 5 other quotes, and Gary was definitely one of the lowest bids. His prices are reasonable, but don't be fooled because the quality of his work is top-notch. I was so nitpicky about everything (I mean MAJOR), but Gary was so patient with me and made sure everything was executed as we instructed. Everyone in his crew (from his electricians to his plumbers to his carpenters to his painters) made sure we were happy with what was done. We also liked Gary's honesty and keen sense of style. If he didn't think an idea of ours would look right, he would always let us know and give other suggestions. For example, he suggested we put trimmings on the edge of our backsplash, but being the cheapo that I am, I initially didn't want to spend an extra $70 to buy trimming for him to install (free of charge). But I'm so glad he was able to convince me because the finished backsplash looks so amazing with the trimmings. And when we had family over, it was actually one of the things they noticed. They were like, wow they did this too?! I would say definitely worth the $70 lol! And I know this doesn't matter to a lot of people, but Gary always came to work looking professional. Clean cut and well dressed, which I think is important since we were going to trust this guy to "style" our kitchen. But the #1 thing we really admired about Gary is his integrity and perfectionism. For example, on the last day of the renovation, the special order stainless steel outlet we ordered from Home Depot was not delivered yet, and I failed to purchase one less pull for our kitchen cabinets. I told Gary no worries and that we would just install it ourselves, since it was super easy. We paid the guy our last payment and called it a day. We were so happy with everything already! But Gary gave me a call the next day and said he wanted to come back and put sealer on our granite to ensure its durability (free of charge!). And since we received our outlet that day and we bought the extra pull, he said he would install that too. This all doesn't seem much, but remember that we already fully paid this guy, and he still freely offered to come back and do these little extra things for us. To us, that's integrity! Oh and he warranties his work up to 1 year, so that's comforting. But I believe this is standard for licensed contractors. My husband and I are first-time renovators, and after hearing so many horror stories with unreliable contractors, we really felt blessed to have found such a dependable contractor that exceeded our expectations! We want to add a whole bathroom to our house within the next couple years (since our house is an uneven 4bed/2bath, so we want to make it 4bed/3bath), and there is no doubt in our mind that we want to hire Gary again to complete this very big project.
