Individual 6" Pepperoni Deep Dish Pizza
Amber Z.

Great pizza, but plan ahead: all deep dishes, no matter the size, take about 45 minutes to prepare. It feels like a sports bar but also family-friendly--a well-rounded menu with something for everyone. Lunch specials are available daily, which include a salad. I opened the lunch special of a personal pan deep dish with a salad and took half of the pizza back to the hotel.

verything happens for a reason. Giordano's Pizza in Chicago carries a unique history of more than 50 years, and you can feel it the moment you walk in. Its classic atmosphere and vintage charm make the experience unforgettable. María Álvarez , our server, was far more than that; she was an exceptional host of hospitality and great service. The starters; the fried calamari and the house salad; were a sublime touch to the palate, setting the perfect tone for the meal. And the star of the night: Giordano's Chicago-style pizza. Simply beyond words. I would return again and again; for the pizza, and especially for María's outstanding service. A complete, authentic, and highly recommended experience.

Super surprised this place wasn't very busy on a Sunday before Christmas with the airport right down the road. Our server was super quick and our food and drinks were hot. It's been awhile and I didn't remember Giordano's selling alcohol but damn that holiday fruit punch went down smooth. Also I've tried several of the deep dish pizzas but never the veggie. Honestly it might be my new go to. It was freaking delicious. My friend and I say and chatted while the pizza cooked so it was perfect for catching up.

First time in Chicago and we wanted to try deep dish pizza. Not really fans of this type of pizza but the environment was cool and service was quick before our flight. The location was nice for a bite to eat before the airport.

The server was great. He was upfront and brutally honest on how long it may take to get fresh pizza. It was worth the wait to try a Chicago style pizza. It definitely is nowhere near a New York style pizza. The crust was very different and baked so it could house all the toppings on the bottom cheese and then tomato sauce on top. The place was busy and cozy yet I felt comfortable because it was definitely a family style dining experience.

Had a wonderful time at Giordano's while in town with friends visiting from Pittsburgh and Omaha. We got the original or chicago style one and it was good! Great flavor, cooked perfectly, and just what we were looking for as tourists in Chicago. It did take a very long time to come out, but we knew that going into it before we even got to the restaurant. The server and other staff were all very patient with our rambunctious children (ages 3, 2, and 1) and made sure our drinks stayed full, cleared the table in a timely manner, and made sure our needs were met. Overall a great experience and glad we were able to give it a try!

Okay fine I'm a tourist eating at the edge of an airfield. But we people have to eat too. Get enough for a small planeful at Gio's. I was committed from building entry: all in on the carbs, you only eat stuffed once, 45 mins isn't so long to wait, tomorrow's run can just be longer, all the mind tricks. It helped me through the waiting period. First I'll start with the Italian Salad. True to form it includes meat. Good because I need meat while I wait for my meat. Somewhat limited draft selection, but see the earlier "airfield edge" comment and what did I expect? It could've been worse and their taps were all broken. But now I'm settled in for a long fall's wait, watching everybody else wolf down their giant portions and take home stacks of boxes. In Italy you'd never share a pie. You get yours and it's probably a good single portion. All you fake light-eater types would take half home like you weren't going to devour as soon as you walk in the door. But whoever invented the "Chicago Stuffed Deep Dish" had the opposite idea in mind: this is going to be so big it'll last a couple days. Finally the hour has arrived: I'm nervous, yet serene. My neighbor needles me on the way out the door in his Chicago accent: "you gonna finish dat?" I say "sure in a coupla days". In my not-Chicago accent. Next 45 mins: allegedly consuming half. Next 45, rest. Next 45 nightie-night. However not before I packed up that monstrosity for the next 48 hours. It seems those on a diet order the thin crust, however I also noticed they defeat the purpose by getting the large. So really it just means greater circumference instead of depth. The cheese inside is a little much. Not really people, just some pizza humor. Back in 1974 when they started this joint, I'm sure quick heart attacks were on nobody's mind. They still aren't here. I mean come on, has anybody actually had one while eating? That seems rare. And at least they could get the paramedics to pack up the to-go box for post-op. Beats jello. If I don't return it's just due to changing flight patterns. Otherwise I'll be back in that 45-minute holding pattern.

Pequod's Pizza near DePaul is definitely a busy spot! While it looks modest from the outside, it…read moreactually spans two floors. It was the perfect setup to book a movie across the street and have a reservation laid out ahead of time here. We were seated upstairs, which had a cute tavern vibe complete with pop music playing and sports on the TVs. I started off with a Haymarket Honey Ale, which was very light with a delicious yeasty aftertaste. Once we put our food order in, it took just 5 minutes for the cheese corners to arrive. They came out shaped like triangle nuggets with a light golden crust and a wet marinara on the side. They didn't look super impressive at first glance, but as soon as you bite into one, the cheese pull is impressive and tastes great--like a thicker, elevated mozzarella stick! About 30 minutes after ordering, the main event arrived: a deep dish pizza with sausage, mushroom, and giardiniera (Note: I was told that sometimes it can take a long time for the cook so just be mindful in case you come through starving.) The crust was buttery with crispy bits, a little doughy, and those legendary caramelized, charred edges were absolute perfection--the real star of the show that felt like a total hug in my mouth! The sausage was so good, with a cook that mirrored the crust with just a slight crisp edge, while the giardiniera added a nice touch of acidity to balance out the fat. The toppings were evenly spread, and after two slices of a large pie, I was completely stuffed. As a new resident, this was my very first Chicago deep dish experience, and I very much enjoyed it. Pequod's completely lived up to the hype for me!

My interest in visiting Pequod's Pizza came after watching LATRYGUY, a foodie YouTuber I have been…read morefollowing lately. As a fellow foodie, I am always looking for new spots to try--whether they are in Chicago, the surrounding Chicagoland area, or outside the state of Illinois. I honestly feel as though you cannot order from Pequod's and not get a pan pizza! Pan pizza is the entire essence of Pequod's; in my opinion, it is almost a crime not to order it. I ended up ordering their 7" personal pan pizza for lunch on a day when I was craving either pizza or pho. Whether using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online for the convenience and the ability to schedule a pickup time. Most of the time, my orders are ready--or nearly ready--upon arrival. By the time I reached the restaurant, my order was almost finished. If you are someone who orders online as faithfully as I do, just keep an eye on the tracker for the notification that your food is ready. Because of this smooth experience, the likelihood of me ordering online from this location again is very high. I will warn you: if you are driving to this location, the curb sits high outside the storefront, so be mindful of that if you have a smaller vehicle. Parking is pay-to-park and shared by other businesses along Clybourn Ave. Remember to give yourself plenty of space when parallel parking; it can get tight since this restaurant has a consistent flow of customers moving in and out. During my brief visit, I noticed customers either carpooling or being dropped off, which I highly recommend if you plan on visiting this Pequod's location. Now, as for my food! "A cute little pan pizza," was my first thought after receiving the box from the employee. It was so adorable that looking at the box made me almost regret not ordering a larger size. However, its actual appearance took me by surprise once I opened it. After unwrapping the pizza from the aluminum foil, I saw its charred, caramelized cheese ring around the edge, a heavy crushed-tomato and herb sauce on top, and a stringy mozzarella pull in the center that was sticking to the foil. That sight alone made me salivate in anticipation of my first bite. I brought out gloves for this because I didn't dine in. Instead, I just pulled into a park and enjoyed this "cute little pan pizza" from Pequod's, which tasted incredible! The rich, tangy tomato sauce packed a serious punch that made me smile with enjoyment as I carefully avoided getting it on my hospital scrubs. Don't be deceived by the look of those charred edges, either--they are completely edible and delicious! You don't need to worry even if you have sensitive teeth. After finishing the last bite, I wiped my mouth and declared, "That was good!". If you are like me in search for something light, then I highly recommend their 7" personal pan pizza because it will leave you satisfied. In closing, I had a great ordering experience, as indicated in my review of Pequod's Pizza. Thanks to LATRYGUY for bringing this to my attention; I am happy to share my endorsement of this business with the Yelp community. I also want to point out that I am connected to 13 quality Yelpers who have already shared their excellent feedback about this location. I didn't mind waiting because it gave me and my partner a chance to look over the menu more and ask our server for recs, to which he recommend the Lou Malnatis salad. This salad honestly blew my expectations and I can see why it's such a crowd favorite - the roasted salami bits and gorgonzola cheese provided a really nice savory contrast with the sweet vinaigrette they used. When it comes to the deep dish pizza however, I think deep dish style just isn't for me. You can taste all the ingredients (the cheese, tomato sauce and sausage) but they don't really come together in a cohesive manner. I had one bite and I didn't really feel compelled to take another after, it reminded me of my own home cooking when I would add too much tomato sauce and overcooked the cheese on a lasagna. I'm not saying deep dish pizza or Lou Malnatis is bad necessarily, the service was friendly and attentive, I just think a regular pizza is more my speed.

We were waited by Bill - who gave great recommendations and provided great customer experience the entire time! 10/10 from him. The focaccia + burrata combo was incredible - I typically don't opt for bread + pizza, although this was so worth it. The focaccia was perfectly crispy yet so soft, and pairing burrata on top gave it that creamy/cold combo that was perfect. Service is good and timely- the hostess was super kind and helpful. We started with some cocktails- a Negroni & a spritz (both were good & pretty strong). Then we split the Caesar salad and a pizza with half sausage/olive and mushroom/onion. Yeah, the pizza did blow me away- the crust is perfectly crunchy and so so thin. I wouldn't even describe it as traditional tavern style pizza because I think it's a really crunchy crust- but it's definitely wayyyyy better than Dimi Dimi (that's the most comparable crust imo). The sauce has a slight spice to it, and the whole pizza just feels very layered in terms of flavorful profile. The sausage was also spicy but very good and I absolutely loved the mushroom and onion duo. Sometimes when you go to a certain pizza places, it doesn't feel worth it, but all the ingredients felt elevated here and the pizza had an elevated taste. The Caesar salad had a nice light dressing and a ton of cheese. I wish that the lettuce had a bit more of a crunch to it, but they seemed to use butter lettuce. The inside feels like a classic Italian joint, but it's very small and simple Overall, so glad that I finally went and although it's not a place that I would go regularly because I live far, I would definitely come back!

We had just arrived in Chicago and assumed we had been referred to a Chicago-style pizza place. Nope! This place has "tavern-style" (extreme thin crust) and artisan (wood-fired style). We ordered the artisan with the margherita pizza and the Sunday salad. The kale Caesar looked really good too. The Sunday salad was a 4x elevated version of the Olive Garden salad that we all pretend we don't love. (Don't let me lose you at Olive Garden; I do not eat at Olive Garden.) it had incredibly fresh baby gem lettuce, delicious Italian dressing, salami, garbanzo beans, cherry tomatoes, fennel (I think), ditalini pasta, and probably cheese of some kind. Very flavorful, fresh and delish! And it was large! IMHO, a great pizza must have the foundations of a great crust-wood-fired crispy on the outside, light and chewy inside---and a delicious sauce.
