There was no wait to get in, straws and chopsticks ready at the table, simple menu with one size pho, and points for the waitress who knew to ask if we wanted chili oil for the pho! I don't eat pho unless it is good, and this place is a good to. The broth was a little sweeter today but it balanced out with all the fix-ins. The place is quiet and chill/relaxing, with a pretty good parking lot.
Gion is another neighborhood restaurant that has been around for decades. It has a variety of very good Vietnamese food and is very consistent. My wife's favorite is the chicken Pho. The broth has a deep flavor that only comes from a very long cook time. The chicken pieces are high quality white meat, and it comes with a variety of fresh herbs such as green onions, mint, cilantro and bean sprouts. The noodles are good and very slurp-worthy. This time I had the Pepper Steak, which was OK, but not as tender as I had hoped. I have also had the Chicken Rice platter and the Pad Thai (I know it's Thai, but it's good). We have enjoyed their egg rolls, as well as their dumplings. The service can be slow, and it's another place that charges extra for using a credit card, although they will take debit cards without an extra charge. Eat in or take out, this place is a good local Vietnamese Restaurant if you live in the New Hope, Golden Valley, Plymouth, Crystal area.
Great spot in the Western burbs for your vietnamese fix. Great atmosphere with a clean and remodeled interior. Wonderful friendly service with a smile. Order: Bun bo hue (spicy pho). But don't worry its not too spicy.You can add more jalapenos if you want. Rich creamy beef broth. Add a squeeze of lime to brighten things up and cut thru the richness. All the meats were delicious and tender. Squeeze the Sriracha and hoisin sauce on the side plate to dip the meats in. Great freshness from the Thai basil and bean sprouts. Overall: Definitely will be back. No need to trek all the way to eat street and battle traffic and parking. You will not be disappointed.
Stopped in at Gion and was pleasantly surprised! Service was quick and friendly, and the food really hit the spot. I had the fresh spring roll and classic pho--both were super fresh and flavorful. The pho broth was especially comforting and well-balanced. Definitely coming back for both dishes again soon!
don't we all crave pho on rainy days? what we NOMd: oyster wings + pho (dine-in) + egg rolls + chicken rice dish (takeout) - the oyster wings were yummy and had a nice sticky glaze. - they are GENEROUS with the portions i wasn't expecting a big ass bowl of pho but was not disappointed. the broth was very light. for the size and price its great. - their egg rolls were decent - the chicken rice plate was good. just a good balanced meal and again generous with the portion size - HELLAAAA rice. I wish there was more lettuce though service, etc.: mom and pop shop vibes. uncle was nice, welcoming and tentative to everyone! the pho came out pretty quick, but the wings took a little long - my sister was almost done with her bowl when they came out. will be back for pho cravings that don't feel packed with msg and those oyster wings
Don't miss out on this hidden gem! I first went here for their banh mi and Vietnamese coffee. I keep going back to try new things! The food here is so delicious, high quality with authentic flavors. This time I got Chicken pho to go with 2egg rolls and some crispy shrimp roll ups. They weren't the shrimp appetizer I had in mind but still crispy and yummy. The pho was just what I needed on this cool grey fall day. I stopped in and ordered everything to go. I got friendly, efficient service and it was ready before I knew it. I'm impressed with their new signs and logo! They still have cozy booths and large tables with lots of seats so bring your friends! Nice, clean, open space. Go get some Vietnamese food tonight!
My husband and I went to Gion Restaurant at about 6:30pm on a Friday night. The restaurant was not too busy, I would say that about half of the seating area was filled, but we did see a lot of take out orders going out the door. I suspect that is how they do most of their business. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and very efficient. There were employees buzzing all around, serving food, clearing dirty dishes, resetting tables when someone left, sending out the takeout orders - they were very good. They were also very attentive, at the end of our meal, after they brought the bill, I turned around in my chair to see if I needed to go to the counter to pay. One of the employees saw me turn and came rushing over to see what I needed. Excellent service. (I did not in fact pay at the counter, he took the payment at our table.) Even with all of this efficiency we did not feel rushed at any point during our experience. We ordered food and our food was served quickly. My husband had the Chef's Special Pho and he said it was very good. It had a tasty, beefy broth, nice fatty brisket, the tendon was slice nice and thin, everything was very good and had a lot of flavor. I had the grilled chicken bahn mi and oh my goodness! I have never had such a good bahn mi sandwich. It was SO good. The chicken was tender and grilled with some sort of delicious sauce on it. It was so good I ate the whole sandwich, which is rare for me, I usually only eat half. There was a lot of space for parking, the restaurant is in a very small strip mall. I don't remember if there was a ramp up the curb, but I would say it is pretty handicapped accessible. The ambiance was good as well. There was good lighting, it was clean, there were booths on both sides of the restaurant, with several tables in the middle. There were 2 TVs, but only one of them was on, playing some sort of YouTube videos about oriental restaurants, the volume was very low if it was on at all. We weren't really paying attention to that. The restaurant was relaxed and family friendly. So, basically an excellent experience. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to friends and family.
THEY HAVE VEGGIE PHO, and not with chicken broth but with veggie broth. The pho had amazing flavor. I recommend this place 1000%. the service was wonderful. I could eat here every day. I went on my lunch break. the parking is right in front of the restaurant. So they have a nice lot and plenty of parking.

I made it through work my head throbbing and congested and immediately thought of of the warm comforting and flavorful broth of the wonton noodle soup! The broth came in one container and then the rest is piled in a box steamed wontons, jalapeños, green onions, pork and noodles. Also I wanted egg rolls then noticed for a few more dollars could get the egg roll salad plate which is delicious and came with peanut, carrots, lettuce and cucumber and bean sprouts everything I've had here has been good! I ordered online and the order was ready even before the expected time! I just walked to the back desk and was greeted right away. Keep up the great work!! I also noticed some updates since I had last been. Also 36th off of 169 was closed so if you're coming from there take 42nd or medicine lake

I had the bun bo hue and it was amazing. The perfect level of spice. The broth was so complex in flavor. Service is ok nothing exciting. Lots of space for parking.
I had takeout! The egg rolls are the best I've maybe ever had??? So good! The Lo Mein was fine. Tons of noodles and they're tiny. I would probably try a different main course. Reasonable prices. Quick service. It did look like my food was sitting on a shelf when I picked up and not under a heated, so if you want fresh food I would show up 5-10 mins before their estimated time. WHOA MSG OVERLOAD! This is typical Asian street food. Fast & full of MSG! The bread here is very authentic Vietnamese.. It is light and airy and crispy on the outside. I ordered Bo Ko. The carrots tasted like they were from frozen. It was a weird texture. It was not from fresh. Their beef was extremely tender however I assume from the MSG because it's normally not this tender anywhere else that I've ever had. The taste of the broth definitely tasted like it was from a soup base powder mix from premade not in-house. If you've ever had this dish at Quangs which is another fully loaded MSG Asian restaurant they make it better there of a thicker broth, more like a curry beef broth. The service is absolutely incredible. You will not find better service at any other restaurant in your entire life, however, I do not believe in fully loading foods with MSG. So it definitely breaks my heart to give a one star review just because I feel like everything was cooked with sauce packets powder packets not like authentic individual spices. They're charging almost $20 when you could buy the sauce packets that are five cents each at the Asian grocery store stores. So the taste is a rip off here. This place has a lot of potential because at other Asian restaurants, the service always always horrible. You will be particularly surprised the service here is absolutely terrific. The dipping sauce for their shrimp and pork spring rolls tasted more of a sauce that you would get in Thailand, not Vietnam. They serve Thai food at this place and we all know Thai restaurants have the worst service you'll ever have in your entire life. Since this is a Vietnamese restaurant, it's highly unlikely that their Thai dishes are authentic. So I will give them three stars, five stars for the service one star for the food. P.S. For this being a Vietnamese restaurant, I did not see any Vietnamese customers in there although there were other Asian customers in there I would say they were Korean Filipino Hmong. That says a lot about the Viet food. I would say this is a Thai-Viet sytle dishes. Not authentic Viet. My goto Vietnamese place are MT Noodles in Brooklyn Park they do not use MSG. My goto Thai is Coconut Thai in St Paul / Edina. read more

I got the chance to try a new pho place since I moved out to the west metro area. My favorite pho spot back in Saint Paul is IPho by Saigon and I can say Gion Restaurant will suffice for my new pho spot! I ordered the chicken pho and my partner ordered the Bun Bo Hue. I currently have a cough and my throat has been killing me but the warm broth soothed my throat! The broth alone is on the sweet side, I added my usual bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, lime juice, siracha, and hoisin sauce. I usually too will add chili oil but they did not have any at the table. However it was delicious nonetheless. I enjoyed all the cilantro in the broth as well. The bun ho hue was tasty, it is a spicy noodle soup with a thicker noodle and beef slices. All we added to this noodle was the bean sprouts, squeeze of lime and cabbage provided. It was delicious and had the perfect amount of heat. Service was alright, the servers were nice however we did wait awhile to receive our waters. This was a bit of an issue for me since my throat was aching and needed some replenishing. We also ordered the Saigon chicken wings that arrived at our table as we were wrapping up our bowls of soup so that was a bit disappointing. The wings were hot and tasty so we did appreciate this after receiving them so late. Next time we will possibly order an appetizer if we are hungry enough but we might just stick with our bowls of pho. One thing that did surprise me was that a bowl was $11. At my usual spot it is usually 9 or 10 and has size options you can select from. Regardless, we will be back and hope to explore various other items from the menu! read more

This restaurant is located in an unassuming strip mall just off the freeway. But it's definitely worth a stop. I tried the pad thai with shrimp. Very well made with great noodles and not too sweet. The spring rolls were good too. They have chicken wings and I tried the Shanghai style. Meaty and well seasoned. I got the traditional Bahn mi. This was excellent. Lots of cold cuts, pate and pickled veg on a baguette. They have tea and soft drinks, no beer or wine. Definitely recommend giving Gion a try. read more

I've been here 3 times and each dish I've gotten was really good. I'm always seated promptly and the waiters are very nice. It's a great place for lunch or dinner vibes. I've ordered the Lo Mein, Beef & potatoes, and the Classic Pho. I enjoyed each dish but I'd have to say I liked the Pho the best. read more

Gion was amazing! Quick service with great staff who were very attentive! We ordered the Oyster wings which had great flavor and crunch, there was plenty of sauce on each wing! The Pho had a very flavorful broth with plenty of noodles and fixings, I added chilli sauce for some extra heat! The star of the show was the Cream Cheese Wontons! They were some of the best I've had! The cream cheese was sweet and there was just enough filling! I will be back for sure! read more

Gion is always a hit! I've been coming here for years and it's by far one of my favorite restaurants. Their beef stew is savory, flavorful, and decadent. I love the spices and tenderness of the beef, it's truly an incredible dish. The service is always wonderful and they're newly remodeled, which really helped to freshen up the space! read more

Have been twice with the family. We love the place. Best darn Bo Kho! Great Pho too. For the Bo Kho I get it with a side of bread (awesome Vietnamese French bread). Great for dipping and soaking up the lovely soup. Wife gets its rice noodles. Family owned and run. If in the New Hope area highly suggest you swing by! read more
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a staff member and promptly sat and brought waters. We ordered the spring rolls, Chefs special pho, veg and tofu pho, iced coffee, and mango smoothie. All of the food brought out was fresh, from the ingredients in the pho to the toppings - I was very impressed! The broth was also tasty, and was enhanced with the house made chili oil! I read some reviews saying the portions were lacking, but i did not believe that was the case. The soup had plenty of noodles and a fair serving of protein. I was not disappointed with the quantity and even had enough to take home for a second meal! The coffee was bold in flavor, smooth, and had just a touch of sweetness making it pleasant to drink. Overall, the food was high quality and delicious and the service was quick, polite, and attentive. The only thing lacking is ambiance, there isn't much going on. It was definitely clean, but very boring. I'm not docking points though, because the food made up for it. read more
