I was in search of a coffee place and I stumbled upon Gino's Java. It's a cute little shop located below a high rise apartment building. They also sell sandwiches, soups, and bagels. I ordered a 24oz iced black and white mocha and their service is quick. The price is reasonable compare to most coffee shops. There wasn't a line when I came in at 10AM. The place is pretty clean and they also have outdoor tables. They have a variety of drinks to pick from. The one I got tastes very good and not water down. I would definitely come back and try their sandwiches. read more

I've had mixed experiences here, some items have been good, some have been kind of bad, like the Mexican hot chocolate and the soup (tasted like can soup with fake/processed meat and all). The scones are yummy and the white chocolate mocha is yummy but doesn't have much of an espresso taste (tastes more like a white hot chocolate). I go here because it is convenient to where I work downtown. I order the tuna salad sandwich, but then every time I wish I hadn't, it is sort of weird. Fresh, but just with odd flavor. I prefer Los Patios around the corner in the same building. This place is better for coffee and bagels. read more

I love the sandwiches here! Everything is fresh and made just how you like it, you can get a really good sandwich with a side for around $7. Their tuna sandwiches and panini's are all really good. The side salads are never as crisp as I want them, so I recommend chips instead. All of their coffee drinks are really good and decently priced. The staff here is consistent, they work fast through the long lunch lines, and while they aren't over the top nice, they get the job done well and fast which I can appreciate. read more

Yay!!! I think this is going to be my newest favorite coffee shop! I had an iced coffee and it was really good! The flavor of the coffee was really good. I've also gotten a mocha the other day and it was chocolate-y goodness! Yum!!! They also serve pastries and breakfast sandwiches that I want to try one day! I've been going here for about a year, because it's one of the few cafes still open downtown during COVID. Like most of their clientele, I'm a government worker who is still physically going to work. I'd like to be supportive because they are a small business, but I've had mixed results. There's only ever one person staffing the counter, and she's super rushed and stressed out. They almost never have enough coffee in their coffeepots, so you never know if you can pour yourself a full cup when you order a coffee, and they police it to make sure that no one gives themselves a refill, because they don't do free coffee refills, not even if you sit in their cafe and hang out. Same problem with the half n half. There are almost never enough pastries and baked goods, so good luck buying a muffin or scone if it's after 11am. If you order a sandwich or other food that needs to be prepped, it might take you 20-30 minutes to get it, at which point your lunch is over. read more

They're located in an apartment complex so are kind of hidden but they have your coffees, breakfast items, and lunch items available. I go to Gino's regularly for sandwiches and coffee. During their peak hours it can take a while to receive a food order, though coffee service is typically pretty prompt when the place is adequately staffed. I enjoy a variety of the cold sandwiches (the Combo is my current favorite) and also the breakfast fare (Morning Special on a wheat bagel ... um!). The coffees are pretty tasty. The only complaint I would make about the drip coffee is that I wish they had some of their specialty / flavored coffees available throughout the morning. They are normally all gone by the time I drop in ~ 9am. Also, I find their espresso coffees (Mocha, etc.) a little on the sweet side. I typically order them with an extra shot in order to give it a stronger espresso flavor. As for service, I find the staff pretty friendly. Like most coffee shops, they seem to have a good amount of staff turnover. This can result in newbie service that is a little haphazard, though nothing I would call rude or completely dismaying. Sometimes the more seasoned employees may come off a little rough during a rush, though I think it gives the place a little east coast touch which I like. Pretty much if you wish to be coddled, I would not suggest going here. If you work nearby, want a tasty sandwich or coffee, and have a little patience, check it out. read more

This is my go to coffee place whenever I can't make it to SB. They have a good selection of your typical hot and cold expresso drinks however I always get an iced white mocha and in the winter time I get their French Roast brew. They have a breakfast and lunch menu and periodically I'll get a bagel and cream cheese but thats the extent of my food buying. Their selection is great for such a tiny place though. Their service varies depending on the time of day you go and how busy they are but they try so that's all that matters. I've never been shorted or didn't get my orders corrected if it was wrong. Their prices are comparable to any coffee shop in downtown however if you bring your own mug, you get the coffee for at a discount. read more

I can't speak to the java, but the food is delicious and the staff is friendly.  Pro-tip: look up menu and call in your food order (this only works for food, not drinks). This place is on the way to work and can be pretty packed when the light rail lets out. Pro: Great bagels with really generous cream cheese. Good coffee and very good prices. The server in the AM is courteous and seems to have good rapport with the regulars. Service is speedy. Cons: I've only ever seen two people working there is the am, so that can add some wait time when you're trying to get in and out with everyone else from a couple light rail cars. It's not that the staff aren't fast, they're just at capacity. Also, there is a $0.50 surchage for using your debit card and a $5.00 min for credit cards, and it's posted on a littttle tiny sign which i totally missed the first time i went there. Overall: Solid go to for decent coffee and good value for bagels, just be sure to bring cash or order more than $5.00 worth of stuff. read more

The only good thing is that it's a very convenient place to get coffee especially for those who work nearby like myself, however I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Their drip coffee isn't even that great & it tastes watered down a bit. The service is terrible- one time I ordered an iced mocha & it's like the barista got annoyed when she was making my drink. Then as she handed me my drink she rudely said "here!" as if she did me a damn favor. Also, my card was charged twice for one drink on two occasions. I didn't come here to pay for one drink for the price of two. Idk what's going on with their stupid card machine but just a tip: Be careful & check your transactions right after you order. read more

This is my all time favorite coffee shop, HANDS DOWN. I've never ordered a coffee or food I haven't loved. I go to Gino's usually once a day either before work for coffee or on my break. I love getting lunch here too! I've never waited longer than a minute for even espresso drinks, and I'm not exaggerating! Speed and quality are most important to me since I'm usually grabbing coffee between meetings-- I can always count on this place! Their food is SO GOOD too!!! Food does take usually 10 minutes or so, but that's because they make everything from scratch so it's all fresh and delicious. Sandwiches, paninis, salads, it's all amazing! Gino's has become my go-to breakfast and lunch spot over the past four years. Prices are reasonable and their food is yummy. The Cap Tower for breakfast is sooo good. And I've yet to have a lunch item that I did not enjoy. People complain about the lack of customer service but I've never had a problem. The one girl up front isn't warm and fuzzy but she's never been rude to me. I think shes just trying to get through the long line since there's only one cashier. I have been coming to Gino's at least 3-4 days a week(most of the time 2 times in a day) for the past 10 years, you think they'd at least give me some stock options. Granted I work right across the street and they help me stay awake during the day at work. If you know anybody that works for the State of CA, they're probably here at any given time. This place is always packed in the morning and at lunch hours with Government employees. It's nothing fancy but everything they have is pretty solid. Coffee is great, bagels are fantastic, lunch is pretty limited but decent selection of sandwiches and salads and they're really good. Everything I've ever had here is always fresh and really consistent(Probably because I see the same 3 people working there all the time, which is great). So, if you work downtown and you're in need of coffee or lunch come give this place a try. It's pretty small and it gets really crowded, but once you get to know their rush patterns you'll figure out your time slot. read more

When I go to starbucks, even if they mess up my order, they are extremely pleasant about it. At Gino's when I questioned a cup size, I got an irritated look from the Asian girl, like I was stupid. I walked in to order a sandwich and was told lunch is over at 2pm. Confused I asked the girl behind the counter what time it was, she replied 2:03. I chuckled and nicely asked if it was possible to just get 1 sandwich. She replied that it was not. As I left I could hear her yelling about how rude I was, which was not the case. I turned around and let her know I could hear her at which point she proceeded to scream at me. Like most of their customers, I work nearby. Today was the first time in a long time that I've been back because I just don't feel that the employees are customer friendly. I waited at least 15 minutes for a panini! It wasn't during a busy time, so I don't know what took so long. While I was waiting, 2 of the 3 employees got into an argument right there where everyone could hear them. Not good for business if you ask me! Anyway, the sandwich was barely ok. Gino's is right across the street from my job so a lot of us go there simply out of convenience. The 2 women who work there are nice, but one thing I really appreciate about Gino's is the level of consistency. The coffee is always strong and fresh, the food always tastes and looks the same, the place is always clean. The fog lifter is my favorite morning eye opener and the for lunch I get the Club or the Sciliano sandwich. Both are very good and last me all day. The House Salad w/feta, walnuts and raspberry vinaigrette is wonderful. At lunchtime, Gino's plays the throw back - old school party music. Time it right and you'll catch a middle aged state worker rapping to some Nelly or getting lost in emotion with Lisa Lisa! Gino's gives us a nice little escape. read more

I visited this location for the first time this morning and ordered something not on the menu- egg on wheat bread. Although the selection seems simple enough this place could not pull it off. When ordering, the cashier looked confused which should have been a sign but I took a chance anyway. The egg on toast is horrible and tasteless- no butter on the bread and no salt or pepper on the sub-par scrambled egg. It was absolutely a waste of time and $4. I'll never patronize again. read more

I want to talk about a sandwhich that is heaven on earth. Its their "Turkey Guacamole" sandwhich. It's toasted, comes on a french roll with bacon, lettuce, mayo, mustard, onions and of course layers of turkey and guacamole. It comes cut in half and I share with my co-worker. Half of it fills me up with turkey, guac, bacon orgasmy goodness. I secretly want the other half, but my co-worker is a twig and can never eat a whole sandwhich. They have a yummy huge vegetarian and a combo sandwhich too, but I alway come back to the Turkey Guac. Its buzy, and their could be a tiny wait, but its worth it. read more
