Oh My Gosh! Why haven't I ever tried this place out before? I work just right down the street and I never even thought to try it out until recently when my cousin told me about their BLT sandwich. Today, my coworkers and I went by the farmers market (since it's Thursday), and on the way back, we dropped by here. Since my cousin raved about their BLT sandwich, I just HAD to try it out. My coworker and I decided to split one sandwich just so we could try it out first. When we finally got to work, I opened it up and it was a good size! We ordered their BLT on Wheat and it came with a side of a pickle. I took half and the pickle (since she didn't like the pickle). They really stuff it with bacon! First bite and I'm already hooked! Another sandwich I am definitely going to try is their Club! It sounded like it would be very tasty. I'm definitely coming back to this place during lunch time! I work near Gino's and go here almost every day. The menu is well-thought out, portion sizes are good, pastries are always fantastically fresh and coffee drinks are *never* burned. And, when you become aware of a nasty outbreak of e. coli thirty minutes after eating one of their Romaine salads and you call frantically inquiring about the source of their lettuce, they know where it came from (Produce Express in Watsonville, to be precise). A+ in my book. Customer service is always good, and by that I mean they always make sure they get your order right. In fact, once I mistakenly ordered a milk latte instead of soy, and they re-made it without blinking an eye (which they would have been right to grumble! Totally my bad.). Some complain about the girl at the front. I've been coming here for almost two years at least 2-3 times per week, and I've never had a problem. She never snaps at customers. She's just direct and trying to get the order right. You're paying for *coffee,* not the server to make you feel like you're one of the Kardashians. Another point: Gino's is tiny. I mean, there's very little space to stand when waiting for coffee if there's a line. They get slammed at lunch. And yet... I've only seen them mix up an order *once.* Those are pretty good odds. I give their staff all the credit in the world for their patience, consistency and efficiency. Long story short: enjoy your well-made, reasonably priced latte outside in the sunshine and feel good about the fact that you just supported a small business that works hard to provide quality food. read more

Small place in the Capitol Towers Apt complex, but a clean, well-run, and reasonably priced (for downtown) place for coffee, breakfast, and sandwiches. It's so conveniently located for office workers that I think they do really well here just because it's so close to many office buildings all around. They offer a good selection of coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages, warm/toasted sandwiches (I think you can get them untoasted, but I prefer mine warm and toasty), and breakfast pastries and sandwiches. Overall, this place is great for a quick take out beverage to get your morning going, and a quite bite whether for breakfast or lunch. Gino's Java is consistently good. All of their coffee drinks are made very well. The food is always tasty and hot. Nevena is very sweet and takes good care of all customers. She is also very quick in being able to both run the cash register and prepare food simultaneously which is impressive. I came here a few months ago and toLd myself I wouldn't come back. I was only interested in a coffee type drink, however the menu was super limited with just the basics. I got an iced white mocha...nothing spectacular. Tasted like any iced white mocha I could get from anywhere else downtown. Fast forward, my coworker convinced me to give it another try and man I'm glad I did! The menu options for coffee drinks are 10 times better including seasonal holiday specials. And they now have blended drinks (my favorite). Apparently they wEre under renovation when I tried them the first time so they didn't have blenders or a good variety of options. Prices on food are fairly reasonable (no sticker shock). I'm not very happy with their hot beverages. The chai latte is $3.85 for a 16 oz cup. Considering that it's boxed syrup and hot milk, that's an incredible mark-up. The hot chocolate is $3.00 for 16 oz and tastes like Swiss Miss and hot water, complete with that salty, sticky feeling in the back of your throat. Like other reviews have mentioned...the food is good but the service is lousy. It's as if they're doing you a favor by being there. During lunchtime, it can take up to 20-25 minutes to get your sandwich. And these are sandwiches that you could probably make at home. I only come here because I work near Gino's and I'm too lazy to walk somewhere else to get food. I usually leave with a feeling of dissatisfaction...either with the wait or the bad service. I want to like this place!! Let me preface with, this place isn't bad. It is a favorite stop for most of the people in my office, so I keep going back hoping for something different. (definition of insanity?) Here's the scoop: everything here, coffee and food, is good at best. Nothing stands out as special. The drip coffee is decent, the espresso drinks are eh, the pastries are really good, but the other food is mediocre. All of this would be okay if the prices were low, but expect to pay as much, or more than a trip to starbucks. If all you want is a quick drip coffee and pastry to get your day going and Gino's is the closest shop to you, then by all means go for it. It stands to reason one visiting a café names for its juice would partake in some, but I seem to be the odd woman out when it comes to Gino's. I have never tried the coffee, smoothies, or juices, but I love their sandwiches and various muffins. The food is always fresh and the pastries I have tried are delicious. I usually build my own sandwich ,turkey on wheat with Swiss (pure deliciousness), or grab a morning croissant or muffin. The lemon muffins are magical. The prices are fair and the service is quick, even though it can definitely get crowded in that little space. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon here with another 2-star review...So I'm upping the ante. True: the servers could use an attitude adjustment. True: the food is fantastic (if a bit over-priced). But I beg all previous reviewers to consider the human aspect here: that the servers are human beings, doing what they can (and know) to survive. Take for example the red-headed woman who rung up my order; she had on display pictures of her little ones. Now, what this tells me is that she is a struggling single mother, who's already dealing with her fair share of Life--if I treat her poorly, it's only going to further drag her down. A little kindness can go a long way to change a person's character. We could all be a little kinder to one another.... I will return to Gino's again, some day. Four-stars for good espresso drinks (especially the cold ones) and sandwiches. I've been here a few times now since it's very, very close to my work and know I'll be back again. Today I got a grilled cheese sandwich and a small Americano. The sandwich was good, although I was a bit disappointed with the "house salad." The cashier told me they didn't have any potato salad today, which I've had before and enjoyed. The house salad was romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese and a little amount of vinegar/oil dressing. The salad was so-so and I would just ask for chips in the future if the potato salad wasn't available. The espresso drinks are strong and bitter; my personal taste is for less bitter but that's just my own taste. They're always better than say Starbucks but that's a given for just about any cafe. The bagels are good but the service is just ok and they are stingy with their cream cheese, Hate that. I haven't had the coffee yet I was too annoyed to order it because it seemed like she didn't want to give me another cream cheese. The bagel came out nice a warm and it was about 3 bucks or so. They are everything you would want in a coffee place: conveniently located, friendly customer service, incredibly fast from ordering to the moment the sweet coffee touches your lips, to my absolute favorite... The creative drink concoctions! In the fall, they offer pumpkin, cinnamon, and festive spicy drinks (I strongly recommend the pumpkin cheesecake latte) and in the winter, they offer gingerbread, vanilla bean, and marshmallow flavors (I recommend the Winterstorm). Any combination, they can create with their beautiful medley of flavors and syrups. And the best part yet, they have a rewards card and I get free drinks all the time. It just can't get any better! The food is good quality, I had the southwestern salad loaded with good stuff like nutritious greens, avocado, beans and corn, and I loved their vinaigrette. It is always busy but they still manage to get food and drinks out quickly. They have vegan friendly food options which I really appreciate, makes ethical eating easy.
