Everything was super awesome! We both had the smash burgers and they were cooked perfectly, seasoned nicely and super yummy!!! I had the side salad while my wife had cross fries. They cooked our dogs grilled chicken that lasted all of 5 seconds! Super nice and friendly atmosphere! Staff was sweet and accommodating to us and our dogs. Highly recommended!!!

Red Beans & Rice, 2 Piece Fried Fish

I'm so disappointed! I used to be a regular at Bawk 3.5 years ago. Their red beans & rice were my favorite. They were seasoned perfectly, but they changed the menu and took it off the menu. I went back for the first time in years and was excited they had red beans & rice back on the menu. I was so excited I ordered TWO! Well baby...they can take it off the menu again because it was not what it used to be. They certainly aren't cooked by the previous chef because these had ZERO flavor or seasoning. There was some kind of ground beef or meat mixed in, that I wasn't expecting and a whole bunch of green onions. I got the 2-piece fried fish & was equally disappointing. Super greasy and lacked flavor and seasoning. I should've known something was wrong when I was there at 4pm on a Friday, during Happy Hour, and it was a ghost town. Also, when I walked in, there was a couple standing at the register, reading menus and there was a woman who clearly worked there in the middle of the restaurant sweeping for several minutes. No one greeted me when I came in. I assumed someone had already acknowledged the couple and maybe they were in the back. But after standing there for several minutes and looking around, the woman sweeping finally acknowledged the couple and began taking their order. I know darn well, she saw us standing there. "No thank you," I'm marking this place off my list of "go to's." It's a shame because it's right around the corner from my house.

    Terrible Espresso Martini

Not good. Espresso Martinis tasted like ethanol. Wings were 10% meat 90% batter and seasong. Cool vibe for the decor and feel of the restaurant. Wouldn't recommend unless you want a beer and fries.

Came for their happy hour and they had $5 dirty martinis which were made to perfection! We had boneless chicken wings, fries and a chicken sandwich which tasted so good and it was full of flavor. I love that the happy hour had a variety of options and again, great drinks!! We were also lucky to meet the owner of Spider Monkey who gave us complimentary Beignets. They were soooo good! Fluffy, warm and melted in our mouths!

The Chicken & Waffles caught my attention and it didn't disappoint. Crispy chicken wings. Loved the cornbread waffle and maple butter - not too sweet.

Ive heard about this place so much and I finally went to try it. When you get there you order and then pick your seats with your table number and they will bring your food there (if eating in) I got the Bawk fries which were really good. You can tell that the chicken was very fresh! I also tried their lemon pepper wings (which is not pictured) but let me tell you, IT WAS SOO DELISH! all that was going through my head was "hmm fresh never frozen" very temp hot and flavoring was on point! The inside of the place is very chill and cozy, you have a bar right there also I wanted to go back for their happy hour to try some of those appetizers. Also i tried the honey corn bread muffin and WOW.. they really outdid themselves Food 10/10 Experience 10/10 everyone was very nice

Came here for a friends birthday dinner. Great thing is that you went up to the counter to order and pay for your food. It's nice because splitting a bill can be a chore. I had the lemon pepper chicken wings and waffle fries. The wings were amazing. However the waffle fries were overcooked. I probably could have threw it at someone and knocked a tooth out. lol Service was great though. Very friends and helpful.

Bawk Basket of bawk bites, sauce on the side

Ordering is at the counter. After ordering, they will give you a number. Grab your seat and they will bring out the food when it is ready. I was debating chicken tenders or bawk bites basket. The difference between them are the type of meat. Tenders are white meat while bites are dark meat. I decided on bawk bites basket and sauce on the side. The bites were tender and crispy. The sauce barely had any kick to it. Fries needed a bit more seasoning. We also got chicken & waffle. Waffle was a bit too soggy. Wing was a bit bland. Portions were decent. Service was quick. They have happy hour which is always a good option. Self serve water, utensils, to-go boxes, etc.

Bawk! is a great option for a casual spot with great food. There's street parking in the area and they offer indoor and outdoor seating. When you head in you can grab a spot at the bar if you're drinking or order and pay at the front counter and then find a seat. The menu has gone through changes over the seasons and years, but they always have their chicken strips, Bawk bites, and chicken and waffles. They have other great dinner and brunch options, but the items and recipes change. On our most recent visit we were so excited to see the shrimp and grits ($23) back on the menu, but it no longer has the poached egg, corn or additional meat with the shrimp. It was still good but the version we had previously was better. We also had Bawk bites ($12) and chicken strips Bawk Basket with 5 tenders ($28) and both were delicious, as always. Their blue cheese is delicious. I also ended up trying the sweet tea ($5) and while it was a nice refreshing tea, I don't think I'd order it again. It didn't match up with some of my other southern sweet tea experiences. The team here was very friendly and they also helped up grab boxes and took our empty plates right away when we were finished. Always a solid spot for a casual hangout or date.

I keep forgetting to review my visits but here I am enjoying some oysters on February 26th during happy hour! We were craving some oysters and also to introduce my step daughter to some per her request. I'm definitely coming back! We tried both the cooked and raw oysters. I'm rarely in the area but looks like I need to explore more here. The wings and Brussels sprouts are good too! The service was great as well.

What first caught our attention was the name--BAWK. It immediately stood out, and once we saw that they specialize in fried chicken, we knew we had to give it a try. I came here with two friends, and right away we noticed the laid-back setup: indoor and outdoor seating, order-at-the-counter service, and a welcoming table up front with menus to browse before getting in line. They also have a full bar, which adds a nice touch with a good variety of alcoholic drinks. We decided to share one of the BAWK Baskets and upgraded it for an extra $10 to include fried shrimp, fried fish, and chicken tenders. It came with three dipping sauces, a generous portion of seasoned fries, and a slice of white bread--classic and satisfying. The basket was the perfect amount for two people to share. I also grabbed a side of the mac & cheese, which was creamy and flavorful. One of my friends ordered the chicken and waffles and could not stop raving about the butter--he said it was the best he's ever had with waffles. We also loved the house-made hot sauce, which was available right at the table. I even asked if it was available for sale, and while it's not yet, it sounds like it might be in the future--which I'm definitely looking forward to. Another great feature: the self-serve station with water, napkins, and utensils made things super convenient. Seating is open, so you just grab any available table or spot at the bar, which added to the relaxed, casual vibe. Overall, the food was delicious, filling, and full of flavor. I'd absolutely come back!

Bawk bucket of chicken Sides: Mac & cheese, greens, red beans and rice, & cornbread Bawk fries
    Cresentia G.

The staff was really nice. Greeted us with a smile. The Bawk fries is a meal all by itself I think. It had waffle fries, chicken bites, and pickles. It was the bomb!!!! Paired it with hot bbq sauce and hot honey, oh yeah it was delicious. The Bawk bucket I ordered and made it a family meal adding 4 sides. The chicken was juicy and tasty so even if you didn't use sauce it was still very flavorful. My daughter LOVED the Mac and cheese. The corn bread and red beans and rice were yummy as well The greens though were a little on the vinegary side and it wasn't for me. I like that the booths have high backs so you don't see the people on the other side. Makes it more enjoyable when you are eating and having a conversation with your friends or family. We are able to hear each other and not the table behind us. Because of the greens I rated 4 star. Will I be back, most definitely.

My family and I checked out Bawk! last night for dinner for the first time! They offer happy hour from 4-6pm so we ordered the Chicken Wings, Cauli Bites, Loaded Mac and the Kids Chicken Tenders with Fries. The food took a bit longer than I anticipated to come out, but it was all hot when it arrived. I really liked the Cauli Bites -- the batter was nice and crispy and had a hint of spice as well. The Loaded Mac had some good flavors too, but the Chicken Wings were just okay. The Chicken Tenders were actually a pleasant surprise as well. I'm not sure if they make their own hot sauce in house or not, but it mostly just tasted like any bottled one you'd get at the store. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you - which is fine, but when our food was brought to our table, we asked if we could have some silverware and the guy said "yes, they are over there" and had us get our own. I just thought it was weird that they didn't give us some with our food and instead we had to get up and walk across the restaurant to get them ourselves -- water is also a self-serve thing too. Staff was fine, nothing stood out. They only come over and ask if they can clear your plates. The inside is split into 2 rooms with booths on one side and the bar area with shared tables on the other - it's definitely has a dive bar feel to it as well. The Roost speakeasy is also located inside as well - which I highly recommend! Not sure if I'll be back to Bawk! though as I wasn't too impressed, but maybe we just ordered the wrong items.

I remember from the video they said this was considered a "bartenders bar",the kind of spot that that bartenders and workers in the industry would hangout after their shifts-I liked the sound of that. Walking up to where I thought the bar was located,it was kinda funny because it was just an innocent looking blue door with the words "Cocktail" along the side-doesn't look like much at all,I'd imagine I've walked by this place many times without thinking of ever going in-that was changing this time. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the Ice Blocks part of midtown and want to experience an awesome bar that feels very unique-head on down to Frank and have a drink or two-you won't regret it-I think I may have found my new favorite bar in all of Sacramento. The cucumber jalapeño margarita was refreshing, though a little sweeter than I expected and missing the spicy kick I was hoping for. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but the portion was quite small and barely enough for two people in my opinion. The salsa was also small but it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken tacos were excellent, with tender chicken that was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The enmoladas were also fantastic and are a great way to sample Oaxaca's three unique mole sauces, each with its own distinct character. One thing to note is that the chicken filling is intentionally prepared very simply in traditional Oaxacan cuisine so that the mole remains the star of the dish. If you prefer heavily seasoned meat, this dish may be milder than what you are used to. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and offered a wonderful taste of authentic Oaxacan flavors. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.
