    Spicy basil chicken wings
    Tippy P.

I went to visit some friends at this Thai restaurant in the suburbs. Located in a shopping strip off the main road. Abundance of parking spots to choose from. Good size restaurant, they can accommodate large parties and they offer party trays for catering as well. Family own business, the servers were related to the owners and you might see their other little kiddo playing on her tablet in the back. We ordered eggrolls, chicken pad thai, and basil wings. I was surprised the wings were stir fried like a basil stir fry, different and delicious. Definitely recommend if you're in the north metro.

    Vietnamese Vermicelli chicken salad

Extremely disappointed. I got the Vietnamese Vermicelli salad. It was not nearly close to a salad. It was more a chicken breast stir fry concoction poured over the noodles. The lettuce, cucumbers, and shredded carrots got soggy from the heat from the stir fry so the whole "salad" was a total mush! Regular Vermicelli noodle salad should have crunchy lettuce, shredded carrots, and cucumbers. It was a really slimy vermicelli salad.

    Oily curry

Ordered two green curries and an udon. The udon was fine, but the curries were awful -- no coconut milk, barely any curry flavor, and swimming in a thick layer of grease. When I called to complain, I was told the curries were "pre-made," then the chef got on the phone, yelled that this was "how curry is supposed to be," and started using vulgar language. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I won't ever return. (I have photos showing the oil slick on top.)

The Ginger Cafe used to be our goto Asian restaurant. We were there this week and were very disappointed. The service was good until about the time we were finishing our meal and then the 2 servers disappeared for 10-15 minutes. There was spoiled broccoli (See photo) in the Cashew Chicken and the fried rice was white rice with a soy sauce and a couple pieces of egg. The Spring Rolls were 85% old lettuce that was brown around the edges. One thing I was happy with: The vegs were cooked perfectly. But what kind of chef would use obviously inferior vegs?

Incredible improvement - 5 stars! Wow, Ginger Café is so much better than my last visit a couple of years ago! (And it's light years above the older version when the previous owners ran things.) Not only is the food awesome, the place is clean and spotless with a fresh remodel. Nice! The food was good before but it's a step up now. It comes out fresh and lightning fast. They also have options to add spicy heat on a 1 to 5 scale. I really appreciate this because I love heat. Awesome! Do you see the bright colors of the vegetables in my photos? That's a sign of fresh made Asian food...not overcooked junk...like the crap that was served up at the China Dragon in Elk River yesterday. This isn't a fancy restaurant. It's nice but simple, basic, humble, and clean. The prices are reasonable too. This isn't a place where I'd necessarily drive way out of my way to visit. But if you're in the area and craving Asian cuisine, this should be on the top of your list. Thumbs up! -Daddy Maxx Retro

New beautiful look, same low grade food - 2 stars!…read more I arrived excited but I left angry. I saw the new restaurant and I was hopeful. The old place, Ming Tree, was pretty bad. After commenting about being happy that there's a new restaurant in this space, I was informed (by Mi) that this is basically the same place but it was "re-branded". Mi's Eatery is technically a new business with a new interior, a new name, a new logo, a new POS system - it looks really nice. It also has a second business in the same space for tea, smoothies, and Boba drinks called "Where 2 Tea". Unfortunately, they've adopted the same old food menu, most of the same staff (according to Mi), the same sad looking turtles, and a weird attitude along with some perplexing rules for customers. If they spent as much attention to the food as the new décor, they might really have something great. But sadly, this is not the case. The 3 things that irritated me the most were the food, the seating rules, and the captive Painted Turtles. GOOD: 1. The décor is beautiful. 2. Everything looks clean and organized. 3. The food comes out fast. 4. The stir-fry type foods are obviously made fresh & it comes out piping hot. 5. The Hot Sour Soup was good. The Egg Rolls tasted good too (but they were cold). 6. The prices are reasonable. 7. Parking is easy. BAD: 1. NO FULL SERVICE: There is NO "full-service" in this fancy new space "for now". If you want to dine-in, they yell out your name, and you pick-up your cafeteria tray of food inside to-go containers with plastic flatware & sauces in little plastic packs. It definitely doesn't match the fancy new décor. (I predict there will never be full service.) 2. SEATING RESTRICTIONS: I was told that I couldn't sit in the large main dining room with my food. That's only for the tea and smoothie drinkers. Really? I was the ONLY person in the restaurant on a snowy winter night! So I had to sit in the small side room like a little kid getting a time out. Any other place would happily let you sit where you want in an empty restaurant. This was very disrespectful to me as a first time visitor and as a paying customer, definitely turned me off and made me angry. 3. POOR COMMUNICATION: I had a million questions about the new place but the main woman could not speak well, I could hardly understand her. It was so bad, I finally gave up with my questions. But the other woman (standing right next to her) had perfect grammar. Why wasn't she the one talking to customers? My wife is from Peru, South America so I have sympathy for people with accents. But you need to understand your customers and they need to understand you. Put your best communicators front & center. 4. NO FLAVOR: My Mango Smoothie had ZERO taste of mango. It was okay. But it had a weird artificial factory candy type of taste...but no hint of mango whatsoever. 5. COLD FOOD: My pork egg rolls tasted decent but they were cool! Come on, cold food? 6. LAME ENTRE: My Beef Garlic meal had wimpy portions of beef (see photo), big over-sized chucks of green peppers (see photo), and I couldn't taste any garlic. Basically, this was an amateur green pepper stir fry with beef flavor and some canned mini-corns & water chestnuts - poorly executed & a waste of money. I threw most of it away. I didn't even save it for my Mastiff. I was actually angry about the food they foisted on me. 7. SAD TURTLES: The poor turtles are still there (see photos). The tank is now clean but they have an undersized light propped up with a pitcher and an empty plastic food container. No UV light anywhere, no plants, etc. I feel very sorry for them. 8. INCONSIDERATE RULES: Weird seating rules. The big fancy room - no food allowed, only drinks. I bought a smoothie (from Where 2 Tea) and food (from Mi's Eatery). Despite buying a specialty drink, they still made me sit in the little room. Strange. 9. POOR SERVICE: The general vibe is unfriendly, no smiles anywhere. And yelling my name out when my food came out - really? One of the 2 staff couldn't walk 15 feet and put it on my table? I was right in front of them. And I'm sure they saw that I have major health problems and I have a hard time walking, limping, and sitting down. Yelling out my name when I was staring at them was actually kinda funny, like a vintage SNL skit. 10. GASTROINTESTINAL SIDE EFFECTS: I've been on the toilet ever since I came home from eating this stuff. This is the only thing I ate all day. (And I'm notorious for being able to eat nearly anything.) 11. DONT DO IT: I recommend that you only come here if you have no standards for the food you put in your mouth. Finally - amazingly - I saw a steady stream of people picking up to-go orders. I don't understand how anyone in Champlin and Anoka thinks this stuff is good, especially since there are several excellent Asian restaurants nearby (for example, Ginger Café or Bamboo Village about 5 minutes north). Personally, I won't spend another dime here.

Cost wise, it was actually quite affordable for a food truck and there's even an option for a big ol' bucket of lumpia for $36. The downside was that I didn't like them at all. They're sour, are they supposed to be sour? I've had other lumpia's before and they didn't taste like this. It tasted like the meat had gone off and soured and was used to make the lumpia but I honestly can't tell if that sour taste was intentional or not. The pork skewers could have been great, they just needed a hit of salt to bring out the flavor. The lechon, not a lot of flavor and the garlic fried rice also needed a bit more umph. The flan was okay and the pineapple drink was nice and pineappley but not for me.

Parking was easy on the lot behind the building, next to the Big White House. The building must be having renovations as there was scaffolding all around it, with a main staircase entryway covered to protect people from things falling. We walked in and I was impressed by the look of the entryway. Rich architecture history from the old post office. We waited for a hostess to either take our name or bring us to a table but no one ever came. There was 2 women with 2 kids sat at a low table in the entryway, near the bathroom. And I could see the dining room filled with families with little kids. I observed that no one was eating but had water glasses filled. I saw a little boy (4yo??) walk out of the dining room, across the front entrance behind the hostess table and down an empty corridor.... no adult?? And then I watched one of the women at the low top table get up, walk down that same empty corridor and come back a few moments later a little perturbed. She muttered something to her table mate that piqued my interest. After seeing their empty water glasses and milk cups (kids), I asked if THEY had been served yet. The other lady said they had been waiting for over an hour. Everything was starting to add up. No one was eating. We hadn't been greeted after standing there for about 10 mins. I never saw any waitstaff either. Nope, not gonna do that. And we walked out. Maybe I'll try again, maybe I won't. Time will tell.
