I have always loved Gina's. There are two things I miss, the restaurant they had in Waipahu that her sister and brother in law ran and second the mini bento that was always on the menu. But things change and we have to adapt with the times, sigh. Recently we ordered the family pack for the four of us and there was plenty of food left over. There is consistency in the quality of food. We always get the meat Jun and kalbi. Since there were four of us we had to cut up the Jun, chicken and kalbi but there was still plenty of protein to go around. We had the choice of our four sides. Is Gina's one of the few that still offers Taegu? And while I like chow sum, I miss watercress that no one seems to offer. You know there is quantity besides the quality when you see all those UH students ordering. College students know where to maximize their food dollars. read more

It's been a really long time since we've been here. We had heard from family that 'it's not that good anymore', and it's true. But, I wanted to go somewhere that had pick-your-banchan. 7 stools for waiting for your food - no eating in. I like the way you can order. Its pretty clear. I got meat jun/chicken katsu, mac x2/kim chee/shredded daikon. The chicken katsu was good, I like their sauce. The meat jun itself is meh, and there is not too much taste to the sauce which I found unforgiveable. It looks like a chili pepper water, but with much less flavor. The mac had no taste - like no seasoning at all, just macaroni and mayo (& not Best Foods) and the kimchi was bland. Hubby ordered spicy pork/garlic chicken with mac, kimchi, seaweed, daikon. Spicy pork was good, but oily; I like that they wrap it in foil so the sauce doesn't mix with the rest of the food. The chicken was crispy, but overcooked and dry (I get that there is sauce, but these pieces were almost black). He said the same about the mac and kimchi (no flavor); seaweed and daikon were ok. The ladies that work there are so sweet though! Even near the end of their day they're still smiling. Sadly, overall, fairly disappointing. It seems to be under new management. Very sad as the old Gina's food was always consistent and plentiful! I ordered a regular bbq chicken plate. Got 2 chicken thighs and a bunch of small broken pieces. Wow! Really!! And it was dry! Like it was made hours ago and warmed up! The seafood soup was so salty it was inedible! I had to add more than half water and it was still salty. It was like they just dumped a tablespoon of MSG in the container. So sad! We won't be going there again. I hope the old ladies are enjoying their retirement! They deserve it! Too bad they replaced it with sub par korean food!! Don't think they'll be around too long serving that kind of food!! read more

I've been eating meat jun at Gina's for 30 years. Today I had, by far, the worst meat Jun I've ever had in my life. I am not sure if it has something to do with the egg shortage, but it tastes like it's made with cornstarch, or else had more flour than egg. The outside was hard and grainy. RIP Gina's. Gina's bbq on Kapiolani Blvd is very busy, takeout only. It's a good idea to call in your order if you know what you want so no waiting. Food options are huge and I love the fact that with a regular choice meal you have 4 sides to choose from oh so delicious! We love the spicy pork and BBQ chicken. When we are in Honolulu, it's a must for me to get my fix of Korean side dishes. And Gina's is the only place I know for the pickled seaweed that both my daughter and I love. I skipped the meat on this trip, just ordered the side dishes. For 6 side dishes, it came to around $17. For some reason, every time we eat Gina's, we end up having a stomach ache. I initially thought it was the meat, but since we didn't have meat this time around, I think it's just their food that gives my daughter and I a stomach ache. For reference, my 7yr will sometimes have a hard time going to the bathroom when traveling, and after eating Gina's, it kept her regular the entire trip. read more

Pre-pandemic, this biz was the spot for late night quick bites after UH games up the street. Nowadays we're fine with our usual phone order or walk in. Gina's is quick to get your food to you! It's hard to pick or narrow down one specific item on their menu that we think is best because everything here is great. Some of my favorites include the BBQ chicken, bibimbap, meat jun, mandoo, and all of their veggies. Don't forget that they also do catering size-party platters! The kalbi here is really good and their portions is enough to share one plate unless you area a real big eater for me it's good for another meal or two. I got the Gina special so I could try the kalbi, chicken and bugolli(spell wrong). I enjoyed the kalbi and chicken but I didn't like the bugolli I didn't like the thin meat and the flavor was not spot on for me. The chicken Katsu looked good but it was over cooked for me. I don't like the browness I like it more golden. I liked that you can pick 4 side dishes. read more

Been to this mom and pop shop since I was little and it just makes you feel so homey. What's not to love about it? Its located in market city w/ plenty parking. Take out only as of right now but honestly they are still pretty busy. If you wanna miss the rush 5-7 I feel like is their peak hours. I got the mini meat jun plate for today and it was soo ono. This is our family's go-to Korean BBQ take out place! We always get a the three entree plate - kalbi, bbq chicken + fish jun. The portions are so big here, than one plate fills up our whole family (myself, spouse, 5 and 3 year old - and my kids eat pretty well). The fish jun is flaky and perfect. Kalbi is marinated well, and the bbq chicken has a nice char on it. I LOVE the seaweed banchan - its sweet and sour and just perfection. We also get the gai lan greens. My kids love the mac salad here, but I think its not that good... it's super oily, and doesn't have any taste. Definitely have had better. read more

I always heard such good things about Gina's...but I feel like it didnt live up to the hype. It wasn't bad...just that the flavor wasn't up to par. I recently went to pick up dinner for my boyfriend and I. I remember the portions were big here, so I figured we could share a kalbi & meat jun plate. And my memory served me well...the plate was huge. I definitely couldn't finish it myself even if I was starving. My first disappointment was the vegetable selection. I love the shoyu potatoes and the japchae at other korean bbq places...Gina's didn't have either as a side dish choice. I think you can get japchae...but it is it's own dish. Not available as a side. The second disappointment was the flavor of the kalbi and meat jun...or rather the lack there of. At most places I will suck the kalbi bone dry because I love the sauce that much. Not true of this kalbi. I didnt think there was much flavor at all to the meat...which is sad since kalbi is so expensive. The third disappointment is that I'm used to combo plates including one piece of fried mandoo. This combo plate had an egg roll...which is an odd add on. At least they gave two egg rolls. Definitely not my go-to Korean bbq place, but it's a good pinch hitter when the other places are closed. read more

I wanted to show my BF Kalbi, so I read up on this place and thought, hey lets give it a try. First of all, I dont know if the lady in the front is the owner or not, but she was so sweet and very kind. We ordered the Gina's special which has a little it of everything, complete with your choice of 3-4 sides. We got the fish cakes, kimchi, Mac and I cant remember the 4th. But maaaaaan those fish cakes hit the spot, I wish I could go back just for that. Tried the mini family pack for $35. On the surface it seemed a great deal. Generous portions. I was a big fan of Gina's decades ago. Maybe I came on a bad day but the food left much to be desired. The kalbi and meat jun were delicious. The bulgogi was flavorless and colorless. Tasted like boiled beef. The bbq chicken was over cooked and dry. The mundoo was mostly skin and very little filling. Even parts of the rice were soggy and mushy. I feel yummy Korean is much better. Sad because I once loved the food at Gina's. read more

Good typical take out B-B-Q. This place was suggested by a friend and he was craving it. The food was good, but I wouldn't say it's the best Korean takeout place I tried. The sides were tasty, you get 4 choices and 3 scoops of rice. I just wanted one scoop of rice but the lady said she could only give me zero scoops in replace of one extra vegetable side. I took the extra vegetable side in replacement of 3 scoops of rice. I order the kalbi plate which was a 4/5, my friend got the meat jun and chicken Katsu plate. I still thought 4/5. The Katsu sauce was more ketchup flavored and the meat jun sauce was actually the spicy sauce not a soy based one. The two spring rolls in the combo plate weren't very flavorful and somewhat old. Overall, if I'm in the area and wanted some Korean bbq I would come back. I'd want to try the oysters! read more

Did Gina's get a new owner?? It used to be sooo good especially the tofu soup :( it's just not the same and the portions seem smaller for the plate lunches. My bf got the meat jun and bbq chicken plate and was still hungry after. The meat jun sauce tastes different too. Korean bbq always a stop for me. Gina's didn't disappoint. Gina's has all the regulars: meat jun, kalbi, bbq chicken just to name a few. They gave generous portions on the sides which is a good sign. The long rice had so much flavor, it's the best I've had. The prices were good and reasonable. Ex short rib is $13.50, bbq chicken $11.50. I usually eat the bbq chicken or meat jun at a Korean bbq. I don't eat kalbi short ribs due to meat getting stuck in between my teeth lol. If I'm in the area, I will definitely visit Gina's BBQ again. read more

It's pretty darn good here. I had never been here before, but I was in the area with a friend and looking for some KBB to go. Yelped it and found this small place in a tiny shopping center. It's pretty hard to find, but fortunately there are not a lot of shops here, so you will eventually find it if you walk around for a minute. Once we got there it kind of reminded me of Yummy Korean BBQ. Small place with about 6 to 8 seats a little crammed if you decide to dine in. The menu was pretty standard and it has the general vegetable options to add to a plate lunch as sides. We decided to take a chance and split a combo plate. Kalbi and meat-jun combination. Luckily the servings are huge, so it was more than enough for us two with average sized appetites. The food was good and I ate up all the side vegetables. If I'm in the area, would definitely come again, not sure if I have enough room to eat a whole plate by myself though. read more

Ever since my co-worker introduced me to this place I never went back to Pearl's. Their meat jun is bomb but they give a different kind of vinegary dipping sauce so don't be alarmed. Since there's almost no reviews about their sweet and sour chicken I'll be one of the first to say it's surprisingly good!! Would I get it again? Hell yeah it's that good. My favorite Korean kitchen on island. Little place with 3 tables. Most people like myself order to go. Through the years, I've had everything on the menu. Maybe because this place has been around for a long time that the grill is so seasoned that the bbq food has such depth of flavor. My two go to dishes are: Spicy BBQ Ika (squid) - Tender, spicy and smoky. The tentacles has a wonderful charred flavor and crispy/chewy texture. BBQ Chicken - Tender, smoky with a hint of sweet. They generously pile on the banchan and recently they included bbq chicken cutlets as one of the choices. When under the weather, I come here for the Spicy Kimchi soup. So comforting and the spiciness helps with a cold. Tip: Call your order in then you won't have to wait around for your food. They cook everything to order. Happy Eating!! read more

We haven't been to Gina's in years!! The reason I haven't been to Gina's is because I had a black hair in my choi sum once, plus we found a better place for BBQ chicken. So we were looking for a place to pick up dinner and thought we'd give Gina's another try. I was amazed that their prices were still reasonable! It was $13.50 for a regular BBQ chicken plate! So we bought a BBQ chicken and a chicken katsu plate. Not bad...both were $13.50 each and still came with 4 side dishes. Unfortunately the food was lousy!! Tasteless chicken katsu and the sauce was weird! The BBQ chicken wasn't charred enough to be a real BBQ and was a little salty. Both chicken dishes were dry. As for the side dishes, the mac salad was bland and the taegu was weird! Was all mushy!! YUCK!! No hair in my choi sum, but after waiting 30 minutes for my plates, I could see that NO ONE was wearing hairnets! The one older woman was in the back mixing the daikon kimchee with a mask on, but took it off eventually as she sampled some of the food. She did put it on when she came out. Hahaha!
