Well, all I was hearing is Nachos, Nachos, you gotta try the Nachos. Now I'll say it, You gotta try the NACHOS! Homemade queso is reason alone to eat these. I would recommend getting a side of chips and salsa so you have extra chips to scoop up all of that cheese sauce. The ciders are very good as well. Next time tamales! read more

Well... we showed up for dinner and drinks about 10 minutes before closing. Large blonde lady at the register was less than hospitable, condescending, non accommodating, and down right rude. That says it all. read more

Maybe it was a rough start of the day for the bigger blonde lady who was working Wednesday June 16th at Gil's or whatnot, But within 5 seconds of us seating at a table under the awning she came blaring out of the front door asking us where the table came from (as if we were the ones to move it) and asked very crude to us and the group next to us if we moved the table and it should be in the sun. Within ten minutes a mother and her infant child move to a table closer to the edge and she asks why they are moving and they should sit in the sun (although the mother didn't want her daughter in the blaring sun) and then rudely tells a guy "the sign says closed so we aren't open yet" and slams the door closed and locks it! I understand times are rough right now and we are very close of going back to semi-normalcy, but not a good way to treat guests not knowing what the new hours are. Hopefully she doesn't sweat in our drinks. :( :( read more

Best wings in the valley and a lot of great beers. This spot is more of a local hangout than some of the more popular, main-drag spots.

Whatever you do, don't order the slow jerk chicken sandwich. Tastes like dry pulled pork and I guess they consider jerk sauce to be a cold Dijon mayo blend? When we went and talked to the guy behind the bar about it, he showed us that the only authentic jerk, was him as he dished out some stupid remark about us complaining. Lame. I almost always order the nachos (which includes a healthy helping of sour cream and guacamole, salsa, mexican crema, black beans, shredded cabbage, and fresh sliced jalepenos)--citrus chicken can be added (for you meat lovers out there). Don't go here when the boys are busy watching their football game. Seriously...don't go here on a weekday evening expecting an actual bar...or whatever it is. When I came in, they were very distracted because apparently I was blocking the TV. No one else was in sight. I attempted to ask whether they were open... or.... what... they were too busy staring at the TV screen. It was *embarrassing* and I left without a word from anyone. When a local calls to order take out in order to support a restaurant during the two week freeze, being rudely told to "hurry up" because the restaurant wants to close in 20 minutes, leaves a nasty taste in your mouth before even taking a bite. Truly, if it's more important to close than it is to keep your business running, why not just stay home all together. Alternatively, if you have to close because you have people on payroll and not enough business to support it, a polite "I'm so sorry, but you'll need to place your order in the next 5 minutes" would be totally legitimate. But seriously, I tell you I'll call right back and you say, "hurry up"?? That'll be the last time I ever try to support your business. read more

I'm a local. The beer is good, but even when it advertises "pint", it comes in a small mason jar or glass. Feels a little like a rip off. Also the "bottle shop" aspect is over priced by about $3 and uncreative. Go to any grocery store for the same selection at a reasonable price. Good selection on tap though and a nice place to sit in the sun and have a snack. read more

Gil's! I've heard about you for weeks from my friends and decided to pop in tonight after a long day of studying and meetings for a quick beer and some food. I was not disappointed! This place is adorable, right on Pioneer street next to Ruby's and has a very similar feel. This will be a for sure fun spot in the Summer, with so many beers on tap and a great patio area that honestly feels like you're sitting outside your house, hanging out with your friends. Indoors was very cozy, kinda small for how busy it was though. There were games on the tables but a substantial amount of seating for how tiny it is inside. Everything is pay at the counter type service, though you might be able to open a tab I'm not entirely sure. I had a delicious cherry beer and the pulled pork sandwich with spicy pineapple chutney. My friend and I shared the soft pretzel and cheese sauce. The food and beer were great! Can't wait to go back and hang out again and try the wings I have heard such great things about! I met my friend around 645PM and it was busy, but not too busy. I found street parking (though I do have a vespa so it might have been a bit easier for me) and I did not have to wait for beer and my food was first up. Sweet! read more

Starting with the food: The nachos are superb! I got the nachos with chicken, the cheese sauce is good, chicken is great, and all around flavorful and good for the price. The gyro isn't that great. The meat was very dry and pretty flavorless. The toppings were good, good taziki. The beer is good, nice selection of IPA's, ciders, stouts and sours. This is my favorite hang in Ashland. The beer and wine and cider selection are chosen with care and there is Always something I LOVE! But the reason I keep coming back is the staff, they are kind and attentive and funny and sweet and really seem to care about the people that choose to hang out here.
