As you walk into the shop, you'll be surrounded by walls of pre-packaged bags full of varying flavors of chocolates and in the center, piles of these personal sized bars for you to pick and choose from to create your own bag. It's been a while since I've set foot in one of the Ghirardelli storefronts and they've introduced some new flavors. Fortunately, they still offer a free sample (per person) so if there's a flavor you're interested in, ask to give it a try! On this visit, we were especially interested in their series of dark chocolates. To our pleasant surprise, they had all their signature darks all in one gift bag which included a 60% sea salt, 72% dark, 86% dark, and a 92% dark. In addition, they had a special discount for the gift bags which made it that much more enticing to purchase! Otherwise, the retail price can be a bit high and they also charge extra for additional paper bags. Overall, Ghirardelli is my personal favorite, and being a local establishment, it'll always be a top choice for residents and visitors. This location is no exception to that and the staff here do a great job representing the brand. Its location as an outlet makes the prices extremely competitive. really good quality chocolate and staff are clearly trained to give welcoming service. the ambiance when i walk in so warm + nostalgic. shelves are stocked, organized. u can ask to get one piece as a sample to try. my favorites are the dark chocolate sea salt almond + the milk chocolate mint cookie which is EXACTLY LIKE A THIN MINT (unfortunately not sold in the bigger packs only sold by the lb). i always come here for a snack during my work break. 2 pieces are about $1.20. ocassionally staff will surprise you with extra pieces along with your purchase, appreciate that! read more

I use to come here when my kids were little and they always had a great time here. The workers here were always very kind to my children. Came to Great Mall for the first time in a long time and thought I'd check out Ghirardelli. Maybe it was more for nostalgia purposes but after I saw all the chocolate out there, thought I'd buy a few just to quench my taste. I came up to the counter with 2 chocolates ready to pay but the kid behind the counter said it's on us. no need to pay. These guys are STILL THE BEST! Gentlemen, if your ladies prefer Ghirardelli Chocolates' then they have many Valentine's Day gift boxes because no matter how much a woman says they don't want anything for Valentine's Day - they SO do. This store is nothing compared to the one in San Francisco but for the outlet mall, it's great. The workers there were very upbeat and friendly. You will find it nearly impossible to walk out empty handed. The store is quite small, but filled with a variety of goodies. If you are looking to achieve the most savings, buy in bulk. Also, you will find additional mark downs on discontinued holiday themed products. Make this place one of your required stops at the Great Mall if you love chocolates. Conveniently located, this is a nice little outlet store. I also appreciate that they give you a free sample chocolate just for walking into the store, but it can be an awkward little space when there are more customers inside. There's a 15% off coupon on Yelp, on your receipt, and they usually give you an outlet-only, never expires, paper coupon for the same, so keep that in mind. The prices are better than you'd get in a regular Ghirardelli store, and better than a non-sale price you can get in a grocery store, but unless you're buying the enormous bags of chocolate (buy 2 get 1 free, buy 3 get 2 free), it doesn't seem like that significantly better a deal. Nevertheless, I was here to get one of the cable car chocolate boxes, which they keep in stock (but the tin design has changed, and I miss the old red cable car tin, sigh). Coming in post-holiday can also yield some decent sale items, to the tune of 50% off or so. I will inevitably be back, because I like chocolate and I pretty much have to stop by and see if anything I like is on sale anytime I'm at the Great Mall. I think they have better deal than San Francisco store. Had deal for buy 2 and get 1 free or buy 3 get 2 free. Only thing I was not happy about was the behavior of the billing person who seemed to show partiality. There are two counters. I saw the other counter person giving a discount coupon to another customer for next purchase but my counter person did not give me any so I had to ask her after which she gave me one. Probably closer to 4.5 stars! Ghirardelli is AMAZING chocolate, so I'm already a little biased here. Especially since it's a Bay Area staple, in my humble opinion. This particularly location is nice. All the employees we interacted with, even when they accidentally messed up our check out, were extremely helpful and polite. When you walk in, someone is handing out samples. If you want to sample other flavors too, you just have to ask and normally they let you! It's a pretty sweet deal in my opinion. ;) They also have tons of deals, which makes it more economical to buy from here than say online or at a grocery store. 240 squares for ~$55, no tax! That's pretty amazing and we'll be giving these away at our wedding as part of the favors, so we shopped around a lot before deciding to come here. They have deals on the brownie mixes, the minis, and other stuff too! If you buy anything that isn't on sale, make sure you snag the Yelp check in deal, which gives you 15% off on your purchase! We bought a super cute Ghirardelli cable car for our Christmas tree this year and used the coupon for that. I took off a star though because it's located at Great Mall, and there is literally nothing I hate more than coming to Great Mall. The parking lots are a night mare, it's always super freaking crowded, and on a hot July day, there is not enough air conditioning in the world to make it comfortable when you're going between stores. My folks have a vacay condo there next door (Northpoint Condos) that I use frequently-walking at the Ghirardelli Square is only a block away, so any Ghirardelli store anywhere else doesn't compare, even the one by Monterey. When I go to the Great Mall, this is one of my must stops. Can't turn my head away from a good quality chocolate deal. My husband has been on a dark chocolate kick, so I sent him a text. You can even request which chocolates you would like to try and are allowed three to try out during your visit there. I usually get the box for $25 that you can fill up with your single pack favorite flavors. It's a great deal, and the little carton is just adorable! As unusual as the idea for having a Ghiradelli in the Mall seemed, it's honestly a perfect fit! I hadn't stepped inside for almost a year before they remodeled, and it had been around Christmas time I was last there as well. This time, I was welcomed by a very enthusiastic young man who offered me a free chocolate square sample! Caramel- the be exact, and I was busy admiring the beautiful baking supplies as well as gift boxes. If you are from out of town or visiting relatives elsewhere, they have a section dedicated to San Francisco entirely, packages covered in cable cars making it so keepsake for anyone in love with the City! I came in here with my two-year-old twin boys and it was a great experience. It's a really small storefront, but it's good for what it's there to do, which is to sell chocolates in a variety of ways for cheap. When I went they had some deals and I'm not sure which ones are temporary and which ones are permanent. 5 bars for $10, 4 small packs of single chocolates for $11 (or $2.95 each), 50 pieces of a single flavor for $19.95 (if you get two, $5 off, if you get three, $12 off, etc.), and they have this display with tons of single chocolates and you can fill bags/boxes of various sizes for different prices. The employees were really wonderful. They gave me free samples and asked my permission before giving the samples to my boys (I always appreciate that because not all parents are okay with their children getting high off of chocolate peppermint bark). Also, the boys got restless in their strollers and I took the risk of letting them down. Even though they were touching things on the displays and walking around, I didn't get a single disdainful stare and all the employees (and customers, thankfully) smiled at them and didn't give me a hard time. My cousin and I walked in at around 6:00 pm today and Michael looked like the only one working. He was helping a lady when we walked in but he made sure to acknowledge and greet us. We came in looking for a specific chocolate we wanted to give to a friend as a gift but couldn't remember which one, and he helped us find it. I like how he isn't one of those annoying employees who are all up in your business and get close to you, he didn't make us feel like that at all. He assessed we were looking for something, helped us find it, and even though he was working the closing shift (which I assume sucks), he humored us and made us laugh. I also noticed he gave us a respectful distance while helping us. With COVID and everything, you would hope employees at other places would do the same but this is one of the handful of times I've witnessed it. I come in here often. I'm not gonna lie, the free chocolate wins me over every time. The problem is that it is still really expensive for an outlet. I often come in with the intention to buy something, but leave without because of the prices. Honestly, I can get good chocolate bars for much less elsewhere. I do like the bulk cases chocolate bar options, though. They are great for favor gifts like at a wedding or something. It is also a fun place to bring out-of-town guests who want a SF experience. As I walked in I was asked if I need any help. They also give you a chocolate sample to boot. I am not a fan of commercial chocolate but they do have some great items that you can cook with. Before I found this nice store, I bought the Sweetened Ground Cocoa & Chocolate online for 40% more in price, not to mention shipping cost. I use this product to make yummy brownies - for the recipe on the package, I've reduced both the butter & sugar by about 2 T each; increase the flour by about 2 T & add 2 T unsweetened cocoa (for more chocolate flavor) with the dry ingredients; the brownies otherwise will turn out much too gooey / wet.
