Came here on a Friday afternoon a few minutes after they opened. Ordered 5 rolls to-go since they aren't doing dine-in and paid in cash - if you use a credit card, there is an additional surcharge. Rolls are more expensive than I remembered and quality has gone down (compared to before). Pretty disappointed in the actual sushi itself. We got a salmon avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll, spider roll, dragon roll, and spicy tuna avocado roll. Rice was cold and it was sloppily made - clunky and unevenly cut. Eel tasted a bit fishy and the salmon was like all of the end bits. At least the sushi rolls has flavor; some definitely tasted better than others. Portion size was ok for the price and they were really quick in making our food. Customer service was good but the actual sushi itself did not satisfy my craving for sushi. FYI bring cash if you can. They take credit card as well, but will charge an additional fee if you choose to pay with card. Another tip: get takeout if you don't want to wait. There were a lot of people ordering dinner to go. My friend and I came for dinner on a Tuesday night a little before 5:30, and we just missed the first seating and were the first to put our down name. Folks eat quickly and leave here, so we didn't have to wait too long before two bar seats opened up and we were seated. First thing you notice as you're walking in is that it's tiny inside. There are 4 counter seats, 2 four person tables, 3 two person tables, and that's it. If you do the math, that means a max of 18 people can be seated. Definitely don't come with a big group. Their menu was a bit confusing in that there was more than one menu you could order from. There's the menu at your seat, but there was also a menu taped to the wall with additional appetizers and sushi rolls. And then in front of us at the sushi bar, we saw a bunch of cutely drawn signs detailing out individual fish we could order sashimi or nigiri style. It was a little overwhelming. My friend and I shared the Avo Salmon roll ($7.50), and I also got the Dragon Tempura roll ($9.95) as well, which has eel and avocado but also shrimp tempura. My friend ordered their salmon and gyoza bento ($12.50). The rolls were made quite quickly and handed to us directly by the sushi chef. Everything was pretty solid; not the most amazing sushi rolls I've had (there was a little bit too much rice in them), but I really can't complain for the price. The Dragon tempura had a nice crunch with the shrimp, though I wish there was a little bit more avocado on it. We finished eating quickly and left so they could get started seating the next folks. I was craving sushi for the longest and decided to go to Geta. Dining is still not allowed here so we ordered takeout and food was ready in about 20 minutes. I ordered the lion king, lobster salad roll, dragon roll, toro, hamachi and uni. The portions and the prices were pretty decent. The quality, on the other hand, was just ok. The rice in the rolls were stale but they were flavorful. Even though I got three different rolls, they all tasted so similar to me. I was really looking forward to the nigiri options I got but they all turned out to be a huge disappoint. Upon taking off the plastic coverings, I could already tell the fish were old. The cuts were also not the best and the toro looked so stringy. After eating them, they were definitely not fresh. Especially the uni. This place is a bit overhyped. I always get sashimi in any sushi place I go to as it's my true marker of quality. I have to say, it is definitely not worth it here at Geta. Not only was the quality just average, but they are essentially scraps of leftover fish, and an absolutely horrendous cut to boot: huge chunks of fish, ONE slender piece of shrimp, TWO super thick cuts of tuna that were of different shapes/sizes -- you can't have one side be tapered off (imagine mashed) and the other side thick. Having access to quality fish is one thing, but the cut is all on the chef. Please don't serve customers your scraps, writing it off as a sashimi chef's special combo and charge us $26 for it. I find it incredibly disrespectful. Besides sashimi scraps, the actual sushi is not too bad, which I imagine is what the majority of patrons would typically get. I had the fortune of having the iwana nigiri (in season) which was pretty amazing and delicious. Nigiri is meant to be eaten in one bite, and the ratio was pretty spot on, but the size was a bit bigger than I prefer. My recommendation is to make it smaller, which would leave the customer salivating for more. You can also still get away with charging customers the same price and save on fish costs as there will be more to go around for others -- but that's just advice from a random guy on Yelp... I like the carpaccio. Great balance of citrus, sweet, and savory. The amaebi nigiri was pretty good too. It would have been even better if I had a chance to eat it immediately like it's supposed to because fried shrimp head needs to be eaten ASAP or else you'll be left with just mushed up batter. I can tell it would have been incredible since it is a quality sweet shrimp. I won't blame Geta for my decision in having takeout, however, what I would like to point out that is related is... ...that there won't be any signs for online orders. Even if you ordered over the phone, you'd be asked to wait in line, which bothers my compulsive disorder for organized efficiency. If the line is ~5+, I recommend you simultaneously wait in line and place an order over the phone, so by the time you have to pay, the food is ready. Don't be like me and and wait in line for 30 mins even though you see your food at the counter ready to be picked up (I'd have to pay and there's only one cashier -- this is different from already paid orders from a delivery service where you can skip the line). read more

Amazing sushi, noodles, and more. You know you're in for something special when you're cheerfully greeted by the staff coming into this tiny shop. We had an assortment of maki rolls and nigiri, the fish was so fresh and tender it melted like butter. The soba noodles firm and delicious. We were lucky to get there early because it quickly filled up, and folks were waiting although lots also picked up take out orders. The chef/owner is super nice, and little cartoons of the menu decorate the walls and counter. Geta is a rare gem. read more

Lunch today was at the counter, and it was the 10 item nigiri sampler: Maguro, hirame, hamachi, tako, ika, tsubugai, sake, ebi, tamago, Inari. Fantastic trip around the sushi world. Slices are as always generous and the rice is well cooked, not gunked together and not flimsy either. The salmon was so good! I got into a conversation with Chef Kosuke about the various fish in the display and ended up deciding for 2 slices of salmon belly. He was so very kind to make this extra special: adding a slice of Toro nigiri freshly grated Wasabi root. Talk about over the top! Both fish were the creamiest! Literally melt in my mouth. This is a time and tested and beloved (and authentic!) sushi joint in the neighborhood. Excellent food service and cute interior albeit very small dine-in area (could probably seat 6-8 at most with 4 counter spaces). Seems like most of the customers are loyal and mainly coming in for take out. We came in for an early dinner while walking around on Piedmont Ave. Everything tasted fresh, including the humble chicken teriyaki. The shrimp tempera that came with the teriyaki dinner set was also outstanding. I also recommend getting the crispy REAL California roll with real crab. But don't even try ordering imitation crab rolls afterwards once you've the REAL California roll. Just not the same, trust me on this. I also had the baked scallop roll which came with heavy mayo sauces that were waaay too creamy for my taste (I could only stomach a few)- but, the scallop slices were very succulent. Overall great quality sushi for the price-point. Called in for takeout during COVID. Only one customer is allowed inside at a time. We ordered a nice variety of nigiri and 2 rolls. Rolls: Lion King Roll: generous portion size. Good standard roll. Lobster Salad Roll: my favorite! It actually has crawfish instead of lobster and I love crawfish. It doesn't look like much on the outside (like a California roll) but it's all about what's in the inside (delicious crawfish sweet sea buttery taste). Nigiri: Salmon Belly: delicious & buttery! Better than regular salmon nigiri. Hamachi Belly: it was okay. Hamachi itself seems to be a leaner fish. I did notice that it did seem fattier than regular hamachi. Hotate (Scallop): buttery, delicious and good portion size. Uni -local variety : delicious and flavorful in the mouth. The salty buttery sweet taste sort of travels in your mouth. Toro : was okay. This place rocks! Super friendly and welcoming customer service. We chose to go here during the Coronavirus pandemic (for take-out). My main concern was safety and sanitation. This restaurant followed safety guidelines carefully. They only admitted one customer at a time. Signs were clearly posted on their windows instructing customers on where to line up. Once we were admitted inside we were allowed to pay and then kindly asked to wait outside. After about 5 minutes the hostess brought us our food and thanked us for coming. She was so pleasant. She even gave us a free desert snack. The food was delicious. We ordered a bento box, dragon roll, and a lion king roll. Finger-licking good! They certainly earned my future business. Ordered the following items : Chirashi donburi bowl (mixed fish), crispy real California roll (real crab, avocado, tempura crispies outside), Dragon Roll, and a Chikuwa tempura roll (fishcake) and a pair of maguro nigiri. The maguro nigiri tasted really fresh and at $4.5 each, the uni in the chirashi bowl was a bit fishy/(not as fresh), the dragon roll was pretty standard, but priced at $14 it was decent, imitation crab avocado, topped with eel. You can't really go wrong. The crispy real crabmeat california roll priced at $11.25 was a bit one dimensional, the Chikuwa Roll / fishcake was a bit overpriced at $12.95 . Overall, I felt like the rolls could have a bit more dimension/ different complex layers and profiles. I'd say its a pass for a 2nd time, i've had better value elsewhere; Its definitely worth a try. We arrived a little before opening, were the first in line but were disappointed to learn that they no longer offered dine in... it's solely to go. We decided to order anyway and I'm glad we did. The ladies were very nice, service was fast and everything was delicious. Right after we ordered, there was a continues line which wasn't surprising after we tried our tasty hand rolls in the car. I went with the sushi combo and after about 10 Minutes or so, the plate showed up in front of me. They described the fish and I honestly had no idea what they said cuz I was suddenly famished and all I wanted to do was dig in. It was beautifully presented and even the rice they gave me tasted good!! A definite must when I have some free time from work. While I was there, there were so many to go orders, another option for me when I don't have time to sit and eat. Update.. and here again with my gf, we love to eat and splurge and splurge we did. I last visited a few years ago and I had to wait then as I did today... which tells you that Geta's popularity remains strong. Small, cute, cozy, place that seats around 20. Bar seating for around 4, tables of twos and fours along with high chair type seating toward the back. Very tight and cozy, you may have to stand up to let other diners get to their tables. This place gets you in and out quick, with serviceable Bentos, Udons, Curry Bowls, Nigiri, and Rolls. We had Curry Udon, Beef Teriyaki & Chicken Karrage Bento, and a Spicy Avocado Hamachi Roll. All good for a quick bite ...don't expect to have long conversations or linger as there is usually a long line of people waiting to get in to the cozy restaurant. Recently ordered takeout and overall enjoyed it. It's a good neighborhood take-out sushi spot. I got the 49ers roll and the Crispy Real California Roll. They were both delicious and had good-quality fish. With the 49ers roll, I liked the amount of salmon they used and the lemon slice laid on top for some acidity. The Crispy Real California Roll was interesting. It was lightly fried outside, with some exterior flakes. Although it was fried, it wasn't heavy. I enjoyed this roll as well. Both rolls were enough to fill me up. I would get both of the above rolls again, along with the plethora of other options they have here. Geta is located off of Piedmont Avenue & 41st Street. It is located in a little plaza with a CVS which has a small parking lot of metered spots. Geta is a really good place with very fresh and tasty sushi and cooked Japanese entries. It tends to be a little cheaper than some of the other Japanese places in the area. One downside is that it's not a huge place, with maybe 8 tables and a small sushi bar area, so either come early, get takeout or expect a wait. read more
