I was driving home from work, on 64 just before the Mechanicville exit when I was unable to avoid a blown out piece of tire in my lane (had cars on either side of me, couldn't change lanes). The tire, I thought became lodged and was dragging under my car. I pulled over just to find that it had knocked something loose and I was dragging a piece of my car. I wasn't familiar with my surroundings and just Googled auto repair shops. This shop was a 1/2 mile away. I arrived, explained my situation and although they were very busy, they took my car in immediately, removed what happens to be a large plastic covering (not needed to drive but for undercarriage protection) explained the entire situation to me and then sent me on my way...but refused to take payment! They said it wasn't a big deal for them to remove and they just wanted me to be safe on the road! I really tried to pay, but they wouldn't take it. Both the gentleman that helped me were just amazing. They didn't try to get me to buy anything or sell me extra services, nothing. I will most definitely be back, they have earned my trust!

When we arrived, our vehicle was gone. After contacting Hanover County non-emergency, we learned that the vehicle had been towed at the request of Mike Matthews, owner of S&M Automotive. We then had to pay $241.13 to retrieve it, on top of the hundreds we had already spent on brake parts. After researching the property boundaries, we questioned whether S&M actually owned the area where the vehicle was parked. The vehicle wasn't blocking the shared driveway, and the mail carrier could still access the mailbox. We requested documentation explaining who authorized the tow and what authority supported it, but we still haven't received the answers we wanted. I acknowledge that we should have confirmed our message reached management rather than assuming Daniel's conversation with our friend would be relayed. I also became frustrated during a phone conversation and take responsibility for my tone. However, we were dealing with a stressful situation and trying to repair an unsafe vehicle while managing transportation and caring for our son. I initially requested compensation for the inconvenience but eventually asked for only the $241.13 towing fee to be reimbursed. That request was refused. When I sought answers and documentation, I was told my ChatGPT responses were "exhausting." We understand that businesses have parking concerns, and we were not trying to leave the vehicle there indefinitely. We left a note explaining our intentions and were actively working to repair it. I'm not claiming a court has determined the tow was illegal. I'm sharing our experience because the lack of clear answers, refusal to reimburse the fee, and handling of our concerns left us extremely disappointed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend S&M Automotive to friends or family. Mike Matthews and S&M Automotive, we are still requesting the documentation, a straightforward explanation, and reimbursement of the $241.13 towing fee. We believe a fair resolution should be possible.

He kept working through the difficulty rather than rushing the job or giving up. He was very nice, knowledgeable, professional, and just an all-around pleasant person to deal with. I originally came in for an oil change, and Tom took the time to let me know that my windshield wipers were no longer in good condition. He explained my options, gave me a great selection to choose from, and even made sure I got a great offer. I really appreciated that he was helpful and informative without making me feel pressured. What really stood out was Tom's personality and customer service. He treated us so well and made the entire experience so much better just by being friendly, welcoming, and personable.
